Large room, friendly staff. No fridge, no frills, no free parking. No regular pillows, just small cubes with hard, lumpy stuffing. A request for regular pillow went unacknowledged. Garbage collection below window disturbed sleep EVERY night. Restaurant was closed all three days and the nearest cafe was 6 blocks away. The staff was lovely and helpful, but the cold water in the sink a trickle and no amount of finagling made it any better, the remote for the television was broken (although they replaced it right away) and the bedside clock was an hour off, and it was not clear or easy to change the time. Excellent!!! We were visiting the University of Pittsburgh and had no idea it was right in front of your hotel. It was perfect for us and we have already recommended it to another family when they visit their daughter as she starts at PITT in the fall. Many thanks.

The major problem was lack of proper information on the hotel shuttle. I kept getting conflicting information which impacted me negatively on my stay.

Originally I was hesitant about the location. As it turned out, the location was perfect for our stay. Museums were close, landmarks were close, restaurants were close, and believe it or not, we actually needed emergency medical services which were extremely close. Parking situation could be better. Elevators are slow. Television did not work too well. Other than that, stay was comfortable.

I tend to have a low concept of Holiday Inn. This particular location outshines my expectations and I would stay there again.

I called to get an early check in and they told me no, and was not friendly about it either. I show up at 4 which is the normal check in, they tell me they're finishing up cleaning a few rooms and it will be a few minutes. So I step to the side and a few people come in and are at the desk for awhile and wait. 40 minutes later im still standing there […] with my bags waiting for a room. A few people walk up to the front desk while multiple people are waiting around and they give the people who just walked in rooms. They were NOT previously waiting. So everyone who was standing there waiting their turn was ignored and had to go back up on their own to try and get a room and had to wait even longer. Total wait was an HOUR for a room after check in. Ridiculous, and they didn't even really apologize. This made me late for the event I was attending. There were also banging doors and carts in the hallway in the morning from the house keepers, as well as screaming children. I was not pleased at all. Les mer

The location is good. You can walk to University of Pittsburgh in few minutes, and to Carnegie Mellon University in about 15 minutes. They provide shuttle bus, which can take you to the down town or hospitals in Oakland. I enjoyed swimming in their in-door swimming pool during my stay. Breakfast is OK but a little too simple.

On a business trip, I always ask for a quiet room as I'm usually tired and jet lagged: Away from the elevators, ice machine and the roof ventilation systems. Instead I was placed directly beside the roof ventilation systems. When I asked to change rooms, I was told to come back down to reception -- carrying all my bags down and back up again. I asked […] them to come up -- waited and waited. They did send someone up, but was testy and sure didn't offer to help with bags. Manager did offer free breakfast and gift basket, later on after I complained. Think that staff training and management needs to be improved. Les mer

Overall this was an okay experience. The room was very clean, beds were comfortable, and presentation was pleasant. However, the communication among the staff was lacking. I requested a late check out, was told it was communicated, but was disturbed by housekeeping more than three times AFTER the request was placed.

The hotel was very clean and had great service. The holiday experience I received made my trip very stress free and allowed me to enjoy the local community. I would highly recommend this hotel and its employees to fellow travelers who plan to visit Pittsburgh.

no hair dryer or fridge in room. The fitness room was very small with little equipment. The hotel Restaurant was great, friendly and prompt service, delicious food. Every staff member I encountered was friendly and helpful.

Message light on phone was blinking when we got into the room but the phone didn't seem to work - message auto dial button wouldn't work. One of the two coffee mugs was dirty.

Having to pay $20 a day to park which check in one day and check out the second seems to count as 2 days according to their parking garage... And the front desk invited us down for breakfast when we arrived they were closed for the next 2 hour till they set up for lunch... aside from that very nice hotel and accomodations

We were impressed with the quality of the Holiday Inn. We haven't stayed at one for many years and quality wise it is what we are used to at places like Marriott Courtyard or Embassy Suites, though the buffet breakfast is a little pricy.

Conveniently located by Pitt University with great amenities and very clean room. Way above expectations!

This hotel is terrific. I was able to use the pool this visit, and it was almost like being in the Caribbean! The staff at the front desk and in the restaurant and who drive the shuttle are absolutely SUPER! We feel very special when we stay at this Holiday Inn.

I have stayed here many times and have always had a very good experience. Close to the University and walking distance to restaurants and shopping. Staff has always been very friendly and helpful. Only minor problem was getting in and out of parking lot, card access did not always work.

The front counter was pretty nice but it was the rest of the staff that was really above and beyond accommodating and helpful. The bathroom was cleaned, that was evident; however, there were many hair pieces left behind after the cleaning and that was not overly appealing. This is one of the best places I have ever stayed in. I stayed in the Marriott NJ a week back, and in the Town & Country Hotel in California. I loved staying here. Its a nice location with a decent and happening neighborhood. There are a million option if you want food delivered to your room from the Hotel or anyplace outside. Returning to Pgh after 30 years, it was great to be central to the lively university area, walkable to very good restaurants, Pitt, CMU, Chatham, shopping in Shadysidd and more. The room was generous, quiet, comfortable and clean. The pool is pretty small. I would stay there again.

The room smelled of smoke. I have allergies and asked to be moved to another. I was told that no other rooms were available. The website states that there is free wifi and internet. However, that was not working the entire weekend. I had to leave early on the last day because I had reports that were due.

My next visit to Pittsburgh will for leisure and I plan on staying at the Holiday Inn Pittsburgh at University.
