Turtle Bay - Kahuku

Nice resort, close to Waimea Bay. Like most Oahu hotels it's a little dated and could benefit from a renovation. Great pool area and staff are nice.

This hotel is up on the north shore so you'll have to rent a car, but it's worth it to rent the car see the sights and stay at this awesome hotel! Such a great experience! The atmosphere at the hotel is exactly what we were looking for when we decided to go on our honeymoon to paradise (aka: Hawaii.)

The rooms are a little old but clean. Best resort's location in oahu. Don't stay in honolulu.

Turtle Bay Resort is one of only two resort/hotels in the area. Keep the country country is the local slogan and in reality it makes sense. The locals don't want another Waikiki on the North Shore. This hotel however is aging and the rooms feel dated. The resort is repairing and updating the building however it still feels old. We left the Halekulani […] Hotel to spend 5 days at Turtle Bay Resort and the difference in service and elegance was astounding. The staff & services at Turtle Bay were disappointing. Staff who were more interested in their own conversations with each other than customer service, poor attention to detail, and a distinct 'I would rather be somewhere else' attitude. Whilst waiting in line at the concierge desk (which closes at 6pm) I heard two staff asking to go home early so they could catch up with friends. House keeping leave feedback forms on your bed left a form already filled out by a couple from Canada (& all their details) on our bed, twice. The restaurants are very average. On the upside the pool is good as is the location. Great bays for spotting turtles, SUP boarding and a swim. All in all the resort is overrated and over priced. Its not a bad place to stay, just underwhelming. Rent a house. Les mer

Perfect one night getaway. Every room and restaurant had nice views. You can tell it is an older hotel and the room we stayed in hadn't been renovated in some time.

Resort was no where near 4 star quality it is in the middle of nowhere which is nice if you want to play golf but the facilities on resort as in restaurants etc were very low standard. We were meant to stay for 5 nights but would have gone insane so checked out early and headed back to the city. Not really a place to go for pampering or quiet relaxation […] as a couple but good for kids and families etc... Les mer

Everything was great there. Beautiful view from the room. Only thing is that their 21 Restaurant was not very good. Service and food was sub par.

Excellent place to stay at...esp for a romantic getaway!

It was a very nice resort. they were doing repairs on the roof and it was loud. Yes, they started the work at 0800am but some people like to sleep in on their vacations. We went to the pool almost everyday but it was very windy. We needed to position ourselves a certain way to eat or else everything would blow away. The first three nights, we had something […] in our wall. At first, i thought it was a wire that was hitting our wall due to the wind and construction but it would only make sound at certain times of the day. i finally going fed up with the sound and called the Manager. He upgraded me to a room on the sixth floor but didnt tell us it was a handicap room until we got to the door. The Manager didnt even come and move us or call to see if we were okay with everything. he just sent a bell boy and had him tell us that it was a handicap room at the door of our new room. Other than it being handicap (meaning sink lower, smaller shower, smaller bathroom) it was nice. It had a great view. The travel to anywhere to do any shopping or activities other than the resort ones, we had to drive about an hour each way. Les mer

We live in Honolulu and wanted to get away from town for a nice weekend so we decided upon Turtle Bay Resort. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the room was gorgeous on the top floor facing the ocean - the perfect view. Huge bathroom with marble floors, ironing board w/ iron, complimentary toiletries that smelled amazing, flat screen TV in our […] room, beautiful bed linens, etc. Top notch room. My only complaint is that they put a $150 hold on my card and charged the $25 resort fee upon arrival, which I thought was already included in the price I paid for the room. No where on the website does it mention this hold and I was taken back and surprised. I do want to mention that there was a large group of locals, maybe 15 of them, that took over the hotel. They were loud, hanging out in the lobby playing guitars and singing and wrestling inside the lobby. They brought their own food and were eating off paper plates and sitting on the floor by the fancy restaurants. Then, they decided to get into the pool and splash around and get everyone else wet and just be plain rude and annoying - sitting on each other's shoulders and launching them across the pool, not caring about anyone else. The hotel staff did nothing to calm them down or even ask them to leave. It brought down the value of the place in my opinion. It's a resort, not a Motel 6. If you're going to stay at resort, you should not act like you are at a family BBQ at the park in the middle of the lobby. It's not Turtle Bay's fault that these people are rude, I just wish the staff would have made them leave. Les mer

Beautiful resort and hotel, decent beaches, good pools, great restaurante and bar staff, very friendly hotel staff. However, the Bell Hop group left much to be desired, We arrived in a pouring rainstorm, couldn't get in under the canopy with the car, so had to unload the vehicle in the rain, while my wife tried to get a luggage cart, only to have it […] literally ripped out of her hands by a bell hop that snarled that 'This is MY job' then he practically ran over her foot to get to where my by-now soaked luggage was. Also, upon departure, we had arranged to have the bags picked up at the room while I brought the car around to the canopy but they forgot to send someone up, and my wife had to lug all the stuff downstairs, though the bell hops at the canopy made SURE I knew I couldn't park there for too long...... Aside from the rude pushy bell hop group, though, it was a most enjoyable stay. One thing I dont understand is why the resort does a separate 'Resort Fee' of $25 per day; Why not just up the price of the room to include that $25 and be done with it. Les mer

Selected Turtle Bay after initially seeing it featured in the "Sarah Marshall" movie but never thought it would be so affordable but it actually was akin to rates in Waikiki. However, that is where the comparison with that crowded bit of coastline stops. Turtla eBay was ever bit as charming as it was in the movie and then some. The relaxed atmosphere, […] location right on the bay, friendly staff, and great amenities made this a perfect honeymoon getaway. The only thing I would change would to add a casual dining option that featured local cuisine (i.e. more Hawaiian food) but that is a very small oversight. Do yourself a favor and stay here! Les mer

There is a mandatory charge by Turtle Bay when you get there of $25 per night. This is not very clear on hotels.com. The place is beautiful though. Out in the country on the island of Oahu. Very nice hotel and resort. The rooms are starting to look their age but they are still rather comfy. Loved having the oceanview and listening to the ocean waves during the night. Very nice beach and pool amenities. Though you don't want to eat out at the resort restaurants to frequently as they are very, very expensive...$15.00 for a waffle!! the hotel was great and staff friendly, only complaint is the $25/night "resort fee" for things like coffee and gym access, which in my opinion should be included in the cost of the room

ROOM: We stayed for only one night in an ocean front guest room. the view was great but the room was very basic and part of the ceiling had massive water damage. we did like that there was a second sink with mirror and closet that was separate from the actual bathroom. also, the beds are very comfortable. FOOD: we had dinner at 21 degrees north which […] was quite tasty. the room service we had for breakfast however was atrocious! definitely the worst eggs benedict i've ever had (no chance of a properly cooked poached egg) and the hash browns weren't even cooked! unbelievably, it was $115 for 3 plates, 1 juice and a tea!!! OUTSIDE: the pool area was fairly disappointing as i was expecting something a little more grand. the surrounding grass areas become very muddy and disgusting. we took surfing lessons through the on site school and had a great time! our instructor, Mikey, had a great attitude and was very helpful! definitely the highlight of our Turtle Bay stay! Great value for this hotel and location. Room a little dated but the pools and grounds are beautiful. Nice beach for snorkeling, another for surfing / boogie boarding. Loved our stay. We will be back.

There was plenty to do at the resort when we first got there they upgraded our room. When we arrived at the room there was only one bed so we called the front desk and within minutes they moved use to another room with a great view of the beach. My daughter was with us and she is five and she alternated between the beach and the pool she was a happy […] little girl. She also thought the parots in the lobby were cool too. The price of the breakfast buffet and the prices in general were a little expensive so we chose to eat away from the resort. Overall we would stay on the northshore again it was close to alot of fun things to do. Les mer

Overall was satisfied with the hotel but one fairly significant gripe--we had our infant daughter with us and requested a crib. The crib that was provided was NOT suitable for any child. The mattress was much smaller than the crib, meaning there were large gaps between the mattress and the crib--very dangerous. The mattress itself was very flimsy and […] probably not comfortable anyway. Other than that, the hotel was pleasant, the room was spacious and had a beautiful view. The kiddie pool was great for our daughter. The beach, as most beaches on the north shore are, was a bit rocky, but relatively calm so we felt safe at least getting in the water. The "towel card" is a bit of a pain--you feel pressure to make sure you keep up with your towel or card, otherwise you're charged $25 per towel. We felt a need to keep a constant eye on them by the pool, lest someone accidentally (or purposely) walked off with them. The 'resort fee' is also kind of a rip off. why not just include it in the room rate if you always have to pay it? Les mer

This is very nice hotel and there are no others in that area. All rooms are facing ocean. Restaurants are very good and not expensive. Just look for a continental breakfast instead of full(buffet) breakfast ! The only concern that I have - they enter my room in spite of "Privacy, please" sign.

Very large hotel. Pools aren't great. Beach very crowded. Food OK. OLA is good but expensive. No breakfast included and very expensive if you did breakfast in the hotel $25 per person. Rooms and bathrooms are large. A drive from Haleiwa and Waikiki.

Overall we are happy with our stay at the resort. The view from our room was breathtaking and the amenities were comfortable. My only complaint is the quality of bedding used. I've never slept on more uncomfortable sheets! They felt like sandpaper. I didn't complain to the hotel during my stay so I don't know if they would have been able to remedy this. […] Both beds in our room, for the entire stay had the same poor quality. My wife and I had a very enjoyable stay at the Turtle Bay Resort. While the exterior and the lobby are a bit dated, this takes nothing away from this fantastic hotel. Our room had been recently rennovated and had a beautiful view overlooking the point (almost all rooms seem to overlook the ocean) that afforded us a great view of the sunset. Besides […] the quick access to all of the North Shore surf spots, we also enjoyed the beautiful surroundings of the hotel itself - walking either direction from the hotel took you through rain forest, private beaches, bays with turtles (of course), and there is even a WW II bunker out on the point to the South. Truly a great vacation spot and we are looking forward to taking all of the kids back with us on the next trip. Les mer

The hotel is in a great location, every room has an ocean view. Loved my Lanai and the room was very well appointed. I would definitely return.

The hotel was overall fine given that there are virtually no alternatives on the North Shore. The substantial room rate plus additional "resort fee" (not included in pre-paid rate) makes it quite expensive though. It's actually sad that they ever allowed building such a monstrosity in the 70ies on the otherwise beautiful North Shore -- it must have […] been a zoning "oversight" at the time. Les mer

As this was a family leisure trip, we were very impressed with the location, amenities, and resort grounds. Before we went to Turtle Bay we knew that we would have to eat at the resort unless we wanted to drive down the coast and we were okay with that until we actually got to the resort and ate at the restaurants. At Leonardo's, the wait staff were […] not knowledgeable about the menu and could not describe a dish past what was already written on the menu. Bread was not offered until we asked, they consistently brought out the appetizers with the main My lashes have shed off. Have decided to give the lash conditioner a try. Can tell that holly must have cut my lashes. They have never ever been this short!  dish, and they were always trying to rush us out of the dining room even though it was not packed and there was no wait. The service at Ola's was even worse. There was a line to get in and the three hostesses were at the comouter bickering among themselves and not even caring that customers were around. Then they would disappear for minutes at a time never acknowledging to the customers that they were sorry for the delay or anything. Once we were seated the waiter was slow to come to the table and slow putting out order in as several tables who ordered after us had their food before us. Also the waiter never returned to fil up our water or bring a knife as we requested when we received our food. My suggestion is to enjoy the resort but leave to get decent food and service. Les mer

Great rooms, great views, great location, but poor customer service. Service is the difference between returning to the hotel and finding another one instead.

We had a wonderful three days at the Turtle Bay resort on the beautiful island of Oahu. We rented a car and the travel time from the airport was pleasant and easy. The grounds are well-groomed and the views spectacular. The lines were especially fine and lovely. We spent most of our time at Ola restaurant and beach...the food was excellent!! Our room was spacious and pleasing with a fabulous ocean view. Reviews we read before our trip were not complimentary to the restaurants. We were pleasantly surprised to find high quality and enjoyable dining at Ola and Leonardo's. I believe both restaurants are "new" replacing whatever had been in those locations before. Ola provided outdoor dining […] by the beach at times accompanied by live music. Most of the food was delicious, though on the pricey side. We live in a high cost area of California, so we rarely had sticker shock in Hawaii, and Ola was no exception. We loved the warm breezy out door experience and dine here several times. We enjoyed all the Italian dishes we sampled at Leonardo's. This reasonably priced alternative gives guests on a budget the option of dining at the resort and having delicious food. Turtle Bay is inconvenient in that it is 10 minutes away from small towns which is why we loved it. We are hikers rather than sea creatures. The fact that TB is 10-15 minutes away from jungle hiking trails in the mountains made this a perfect location as home base. The wave action during our visit was nearly high enough for the surfing competition to take place. This meant it was too strong to go kayaking or snorkeling except in the small protected bay at the hotel. Maybe next time! Les mer

Family-friendly and great swimming pools. Rooms were clean and spacious and views amazing. However, food in the resort restaurants was disappointing, as was the service in the restaurants.

We stayed here only one day, and would love to come out again for a longer stay. The room we got (666) was on the top floor and has an great 180 degree ocean view from the private lanai. Albeit, you also get a view of the expansive roof of the lobby and shops below leading out to the pools. The bathroom is spacious. There are two sinks, one next to […] the toilet and tub and one outside which is nice. This hotel has amazing pools and beaches with convenient beach towel exchange system. There are two child (keiki) pools, one that is 1 1/2 feet deep and the other that is around 4 /12 ft deep with a fun water slide. Unfortunately, our daughter is only 2 years old, so she didn't get to go down it. Children have to be 5 years old and 36". We ate a nice $$$ meal at Lei Lei's; prime rib and mahi mahi entres. We also checked out the horses and the 5 month old pony at the stables. Please note. This type of room comes with either a king or two queen size beds. The hotel cannot guarantee the bed configuration you will get until arrival. We did end up getting a king size bed, but the room was a little empty as a result of there only being one bed. There should have been a sofa or sofa chair in there to fill the strange empty space. Les mer

This hotel is older and has been kept up, but still shows signs of age. For a 4 start hotel I expected better. After spending two weeks in Hawaii (after Turtle Bay) I lowered my expectations for all hotels in Hawaii. It's just too expensive to always remodel due to the costs of shipping everything in. Really a lovely location - a bit too windy for golf on the days we were there but well worth the drive to stay there.

The grounds and setting are really superb - you can see both sunrises and sunsets equally well. It is quiet and serene - a true "destination" resort. There are many on-site activities to choose from, including golf, horseback riding, and miles of trails. Our drive-up greeting was lukewarm and nonchalant, which is unusual for a resort of this level. […] The young woman who checked us in was actually unfriendly and never smiled. However the rest of the staff were quite pleasant. Spa Luana in the resort is great - we loved the outdoor massage "shack" which opened to the water. Food was quite good, although pricey, as were the cocktails. I was a little disappointed in our room - rather spartan with no charm, and the balcony was tiny with room for only one chair (!) Fortunately, the view mostly made up for it. Overall, we had a wonderful time and I would go back. It's a terrific counterbalance to Waikiki! Les mer

Perfect way to visit Oahu and to get out of the hustle of the Honolulu. Get to know the real Hawaii on the north shore of Hawaii.

Turtle Bay is in an excellent location on the North Shore. The decor and items in the room were a bit dated included a very scratched desk and a TV that took several minutes to warm up to a clear picture. The internet worked perfectly. The beds were very comfortable and the bathroom amenities were fine. The beach is very nice, although very calm during […] the summer months - no big North Shore waves, but very pleasant. They provide chairs and towels with the resort fee, which is a lot nicer than resorts where you have to pay for chairs, umbrellas, etc. Pool was nice, but probably not great if you had little kids. My son and I played tennis renting rackets, balls, and court time for $16 - seemed reasonable for a couple of hours. One of the things that most bothers me about resorts is the lack of reasonable food options at reasonable prices. Hot dogs were $8 and Chicken Fingers $9 at the pool restaurant. The fish tacos were $14, but good. All drinks were prices ridiculously, but especially mixed alcohol drinks. I think they would do better cutting the price 2 or 3 bucks as it definitely kept me from ordering anything. We had a run-in at Ola's lounge - which had the most reasonable food in the burgers at about $10 with fries or a salad - when we went into order burgers and one of the servers seemed to give us a hard time about where we could sit. As I was listening to him, someone took the one open table. The real problem was the lack of tables for casual dining and I am sure he was instructed to try to gear people to the much higher priced Ola. I got upset and was leaving, but the manager got wind of what was happening and was very accomodating and kind - so there was someone there who actually seemed to care about the image the resort was giving out, even if I did not get that feeling from the staff in general. (In general, I'd say that the place was not pushy like some resorts where they try to sell timeshares, but it was more indifferent - just doing the basics, but a Les mer
