This hotel has allot of hidden costs and is not that great for the price. I have had stayed at better hotels for less money. It is an old hotel but a local landmark is the only draw for this hotel.

This hotel is in major need of an update/remodel. We stayed overnight in Tower two. Talk about run down. Our bathtub had water damage and mold along the tile. Our cable did not work either. When we talked to the front desk about the mold issue, he simply said we will alert house keeping. It's like, HELLO! If there is mold all along the caulking and […] tile, you have a bigger problem. Top rate hotel!! Staff were very friendly and willing to answer questions, give directions and recommendations for travel. Rooms were very comfortable and quiet. Decor reflected the history of Cook with artifacts and paintings which was very interesting. Hotel had a great deal of character!!!!

This is the best choice for a stay in Anchorage - the others (hilton, sheraton, marriott) lack the history and flare of captain cook. BUT - my room was very dark, and the bathroom lacked lighting.

Since we live here we don't have a lot of excuses for staying at "The Cook" but when we do, it is always a pleasure. Very pleased with this hotel and the service received. The food was great, too! Must go to the Crow's Nest but be sure to make reservations to set near the windows and see the great view. Would stay here again.

Very, very dated hotel. no A/C, No shuttle, No free Parking this hotel is not worth it. We also stayed at an Embassy Suites in Anchorage and the suite was much,much nicer plus it had A/C, free shuttle service, free parking ,Free happy hour, free breakfast and was considerably less expensive. This hotel was a pleasant surprise. The staff were very attentive, the Crow's Nest restaurant is a MUST VISIT restaurant. Great vistas, extremely reactive staff, slightest comment is acted upon before you even realize you said anything. Hotel beds were very comfortable, and I loved the pillows for comfort. "Fantastic Stay"
While the Captain Cook certainly isn't the most modern of hotels, it is definitely TOPS in service. The room was clean, smelled fresh and was inordinately comfortable! My husband and I slept very well - very comfortably! We were greeted by friendly and hospitable staff. The service is impeccable! "The Cook Hotel was Okay"
I have stayed in dozens of hotels from dirt cheap to expensive. The staff at the hotel was quite nice and the only issue I had was with the concierge. They were not helpful at all and turned us off. However, the visitor center about 5 blocks away was really nice and helpful. The beds were quite hard albeit the pillow soft. The window was taped shut […] to keep the cold air out but we still had ice on the inside of the windows. I didn't like the split bathroom and it was small. Pricey, but so is everything else in Anchorage in the summertime. Very nice hotel. No complaints other than pricey.

"Pleasant Stay"
Hotel was very nice. The staff was extremely hospitable and very helpful. The room was beautiful with a wonderful view of Cook Inlet. However, it was not airconditioned and even though the outside temperature was cool, it did get a bit warm inside at night. The windows did open, but not enough to let air circulate well.

"Outstanding Hotel"
We arrived mid morning but the lady at the registration was able to give us a room ...a corner room where we were able to see the cook inlet.Everyone of the hotel staff was so helpful & approachable when we needed assistance. My only comment is this..the shower tiles & grout need a good cleaning, overall we were very much satisfied.

"Noisy Rooms, No AC, No Airport Shuttle, Marginal Rooms"
The Hotel Captain Cook advertises itself as being the only luxury hotel in Anchorage. I don't consider myself an overly picky person, but this hotel was far from a luxury hotel. I've stayed in many entry-level middle class consumer type hotels that were much nicer than this one. First of all, the hotel is rather old and in need of updates. They put […] us in what they said was one of their nicest hotels on the top floor. One of those floors you have to use a special key just to reach. Well, the room was extremely noisy as it was located right next to the elevators. The noise was made only worse by the fact that you had to keep the windows open because of the hotel's lack of air conditioning. I realize that most of the time there probably isn't a lot of need for AC in Alaska. However, when you're there in July and the room is 85-90 degrees if you don't have the windows open. Opening the one window that opened only helped marginally, and it insured a long night of listening to road noise from outside. Also, the hotel had no shuttle service from the hotel. A quick search after our stay, showed several hotels in anchorage that had AC and shuttle service, that was priced more reasonably (almost half as much), and appeared to have very nice rooms. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone! I've almost always had good experiences with hotels booked through hotels.com. But definitely not this one! Les mer

We loved our stay at The Captain Cook! We would never stay anywhere else in Anchorage after our experience at this hotel. Great location, excelent condition, friendly staff, great amentities!
