Swissôtel Amsterdam - Amsterdam

The hotel is in a very noisy neighborhood with street musicians with amplifiers playing outside the windows until 2 or 3 in the morning. the expensive internet systme only allows one isp address so you can not use your computer and your iphone - a truly stupid system that limits the hotel as a business hotel. very dissappinting.

The hotel staff where very friendly and polite, room was comfortable but on the very small side, no where to unpack the case and store clothes or the suitcases. The in house safe was locked by a previous occupier and only the Manager could reset but he was obviously very busy and we had to wait a few hrs for it to be reset. Other than that, the room […] was clean and comfortable with lots of little touches that made you feel welcome - bottles of water and mints left on bedside cabinets, little essentials like nail files etc left in the bathroom. Nice overall. Exercise room was great. Location was great. Staff was medium friendly. Would stay there again and would recommend. Slightly over priced.

Great hotel, great location. I would stay again. The only down side was the noise from the workmen below. So if your about to go make sure your not on the first floor at the back of the hotel.

I consider myself as a traveller who has travelled extensively and the staff of Swissôtel Amsterdam is one of the best I ever met. Location is excellent. The room was big and confortable, airconditioned with a city street view. We got two free bottles of water every day (except Sat) and we got a Bowl of Fruits from the general manager at the first night […] and a welcome letter. I liked it. The room can hear the street at night but there were no cars it was only voice of people, but no impact if you are tired after a long day. Is still the first choice next time Les mer

Excellent location right next to the palace in Dam Square and within walking distance of shops and central station. The hotel was under remodeling and the decor of the interior hallways spaces were a bit dated, but otherwise the rooms were clean and updated and the service was good. If you can get a good rate on the room, this place is a good place […] to stay. Right in the heart of the action, so don't stay there if you're looking for peace and quiet. Les mer

location of the hotel is very central on the main happening street,very good rooms with terrace,cleanness and hospitality of the hotel staff.very near to the central station,shopping streets and the places must to visit.

My fifth trip to Amsterdam and I've stayed in a different hotel each time. Without a doubt this was my favourite hotel by far. Perfectly located with extremely helpful and friendly staff I can't recommend this place enough. A bit more expensive than most hotels but worth the extra cost in my opinion.

Nice hotel, and close to everything. Breakfast service could be improved, but who really goes to Amsterdam for breakfast?

We recently stayed 5 nights at the Swissotel in Amsterdam. We really loved it. The rooms were very modern, clean, comfortable, well equipped and on the large side. Even by American standards they were fair sized. The staff at the front desk was continually cheerful and helpful, they were a real plus. Breakfast was excellent and reasonably priced. The […] exercise room had good equipment for a hotel, I was able to do a surprisingly large part of my normal gym routine. And the price was very reasonable. At the time, they were renovating the public areas, so part of it looked like a work in progress. Perhaps they lowered the rates a bit for that, altho it really didn't affect anything. The location is worth mentioning. It's right at Dam Square. This means it's very conveniently located and you have immediate access to the square and everything around it. It also means that it's pretty young, crowded, and back-packer oriented. The energy around it is pretty positive and happy, not threatening in any way, but if you're looking for a genteel or upscale environment, it's not that. Think of Times Square in NY. Les mer

This hotel is VERY expensive indeed. For the money I paid I expected a LOT more for my money. The room was very basic indeed. And to top the high price the mini-bar wasn't inclusive of the price of the room, £3 for a can of coke!. Can't fault the location, right in Dam Square ideal starting point for visiting Amsterdam.

The hotel was right in the heart of the city. Aside from some minor cosmetic things due to remodeling, it was very clean and nice. The room was small, but very comfortable and had all the necessary conveniences. The pillow menu was a nice touch. Would stay there next time I go to Amsterdam if possible.

The hotel offers a terrific location right on Dam Square with lots of action right at hand. Restaurants, bars and shopping abound in the area. The service is excellent and the executive rooms are nice even if gkod Internet access ios pricey. Stay away from the exorbitantly priced laundry service.

It was fantastic weekend. The hotel is in very good position.About 10min walk from the Central station,and around the corner of the Dam Square. Rooms are small but comfortable with the tee and coffe machine.Very nice and clean.Just outside you have tram stop so you can travel whereever you want to. It is a very good place to stay.

The only reason this hotel does not get a perfct score is that the building itself has a very shoddy appearance. When I first got on my floor I got teally concerned but the room itself was very nice. took my girlfriend away for her birthday and i chose this hotel as i stayed there in december and enjoyed my stay and this time was just as good and my girlfriend was well impressed with the hotel and its location, if i ever go back to the dam again i will stay here.

Arrived only to be told they were overbooked even though my room was pre-paid. Said they would pay for a taxi and send me to the Radisson Blu. Waited nearly an hour for the cab, by the time we checked in at the Radisson nearly all restaurants were closed and we walked forever to find one that would serve us. our room was very nice, however the public spaces are under a remodel. daytime noise and workman running around. staff was excellent. morning breakfast very nice. wifi signal very spotty. i had to sit in the hallway to get reception. i would stay there again after remodel is complete.

Staff was very friendly, and helpful. When asked about the breakfast (which was 20 EUR), directed me down the street to a bakery where I could get better food, for MUCH cheaper. The common areas of the hotels were still under repair when I visited, and were not very attractive. The hotel is ideally located in Dam square, at a foot distance from many things you may want to do in Amsterdam: cruise, city tour, shopping, coffee shops experience, museums, red light district or train station (locally and international). You may not find to be a really 4 stars hotel but you will not have serious complains about it as the room is […] big enough and clean. convenient location. quality is somewhat lacking. elevator doors have peeling plastic - very unattractive. breakfast was only so-so. getting someone's attention to serve coffee was VERY difficult.

We were very pleased with how we were treated. The first night we got into bed and found the mattress was wet. We called management and they immediately assisted us in moving to a suite. It was beautiful, clean, and roomy. They allowed us to stay there for the entire 6 nights we were there. Great staff. From a regular world traveller, Amsterdam hotels are notorious for being exorbitantly expensive, horribly uncomfortable, ditched out bedding, stuffy rooms, and filthy carpets akin to an ashtray that has not been emptied in weeks. I splurged this time for the Swissotel and they did not disappoint. I begged for a best in class room prior to my stay on […] the hotel's website and they delivered. The bed, linens, and comforter were gorgeous. Built in cabinetry like a cruise ship stateroom. Squeaky clean bathroom with tub. Aircon and heating controls are critical as most AMS hotels don't have A/C. Clothesline over the tub broken, burnt out bulb in ceiling, and metal grid on ceiling displaced, but these are trivial. Laptop sized safety box in the room, as well as an espresso machine. On an extended stay, housekeeping didn't replenish coffee capsules and hand towels twice, and the sink basin wasn't cleared of toothpaste residue, but again no big concern. Try to avoid a room with the adjoining door as you can hear everything your neighbors are doing. The left window had heavy condensation and wouldn't open, but the right window let in fresh air and the view of the Damrak and main square was magnificent. I took great pains in looking at all online reviews, and trust me this is the best hotel for the money and location. The breakfast buffet was excellent, but many buffet dishes are empty with the crush of people so it's best to go right when it opens. The business center has 3 free computers and surprisingly there is a printer too to do boarding passes. I highly, highly recommend this hotel. Caution to party animals as there is a strict no smoking policy/ no ganja policy, posted notices state they will kick you out with no refund for pot use or possession on the premises. As a result the rooms are very fresh and clean. By all means, take advantage of the free delivery of a specialty latex support pillow from the pillow menu! Les mer

The staff at the Swissotel on Damrak was incredibly helpful. Whether it was storing our luggage, looking up bus and train schedules, or helping us map out a tram route, they helped everytime with a smile on their faces. We also received complimentary fresh fruit our first night, and then bottled water and Mentos every other night of our stay. Great […] price to be in the center of the action. Only drawback - there was a "pillow" card that we didn't find until late in the trip where you could choose your own pillow. Overpriced for hotel that is 3 star at best

I was very happy with this hotel. The room was very nice, comfortable, clean and quiet. The staff professional. The gym is all right and well kept in order. The staff helped me get tickets for a concert. Location is in walking distance to the train station but not too close. - All good.

The Swissotel Amsterdam is located right in the heart of Amsterdam and provided an excellent base for exploring the city and the surrounding areas. Just a couple of minutes walk from Central Station, beside Dam Square, the Royal Palace, many other sights, restaurants and bars. Warm friendly greeting on arrival and top class unobtrusive service for the […] duration. It was our 30th wedding anniversary during our stay and the management left us a complimentary bottle of bubbly, some snacks and a card to help us celebrate. It is the attention to detail that makes this hotel stand out from the rest. I would highly recommend it and would certainly use it again. Les mer

Right in the heart of everything with all the different trams just outside the front door. Well maintained properity and polite and efficient staff.

Good quality hotel in a good location right by a tram stop and across the road from the old town area. Very good Brown Bars down the alley just to the right of the hotel and lots of shopping nearby. The hotel is aged and the rooms are a good size and very clean. The beds are very comfortable but the king bed is actually two singles pushed together. […] Overall a good hotel. Les mer

Our room and bathroom were large even by US standards. Very clean. Great beds. The staff were the most pleasant I have ever encountered outside of a resort. They were very professional and helpful. Easy walk from the train station. Amsterdam is so compact it is hard to be in a bad location, but we were very happy with this location.

Check in was perfect. Freindly and funny staff. Room was spacious and clean with everything we needed. For such a central location, the rooms were fairly quiet. Could not have asked for more with a location like this.

The location is great and the rooms are comfortable. The staff wasn't very helpful and not flexible about times at all. The breakfast is expensive so make sure you ask the price before hand.

this hotel was everything i wished for , kind and curtious staff , spacious comfy rooms , a great location on dam square ideal for shopping and site seeing , 5 mins walk to the red light area with its coffee shops bars and other attractions, i will be going back again soon

This is a good hotel in a good location, unless you drove. We rented a car and drove to Amsterdam. This hotel has no parking at all and has no road access meaning you can't pull up in front even to unload your bags. If you arrive by taxi, train or bus, this is in a great location to walk to everything. We had to park our rental car in the public lot […] just one block away. The rate of 50 Euros per night for parking was rediculous. 200 Euros later on parking alone, I would not drive here again. The rooms are basic but provided everything we needed. There is no free WiFi at the hotel however the McDonalds just a few doors down has free open WiFi. Les mer

Overall the hotel was great. The location was extremely convenient and the staff friendly. The one downside I would say is that they charged 12.50 Euros per day for internet access - fairly tacky considering the hotel wasn't that cheap. Also the business center computers were fairly slow and locked up quite often. I had business to tend to while I was […] in town and had no choice but to pay for the wireless in the room. Other than that, no complaints. The rooms and bathroom were a bit dated but the beds were comfortable and so was our room. The staff left us alone and overall the experience was a good one. Les mer

I always thought the Swissotel was a top end chain but this hotel is more or less a good 3 star. Service was efficient on the front desk and early check in given. Hotel room was small, but normal for European cities. Good location, walking distance from main train station. My main gripe was with the internet which wroked sporadically during the 2 days […] I was there, but basically was useless for my business needs, which made the stay somewhat frustrating. To their credit Mgmt dropped the internet charge. Didn't eat or drink in the hotel............. Les mer

We stayed in this hotel for 3 nights during our stay in Amsterdam. The staff was enthusiastic and very kind. The room was very clean and neat. There was not a whole lot of space in the actual room but all of the things that come along with this hotel make up for that. You are directly in the center of all the important things to see.
