"Best hotel in town...terrible room."
Hotels.com booked the worst, oldest, most outdated room in the building....would not recommend.
"Disappointed"
I have grown up in El Paso my whole life. Looked forward to renting a room at the Camino Real. I rented it the night of the Christmas Parade. Thinking it was be a treat for my family to see the parade then stay at a nice hotel. Wrong. It was not as nice as I imagined it would be. I have paid less at other hotels that were nicer and did not have great […] reputations. I was very disappointed. Looking at saying somewhere else next years parade. Les mer
"El Paso faded Grande Dame"
I wish El Camino Real had not been so disappointing. I wanted to love this beautiful old place for my huge corner room and spectacular round lobby bar with its Tiffany ceiling, Unfortuately, it felt more like the vacant, unstaffed lodge from The Shining than a glorious old hotel. Calls to room service were completely unanswered. An attempt to contact […] the front desk left me listening to the line ring over 20 times before I hung up. The wonderful old bar is still standing but smells like stale beer and has a TV blaring the current football game with no one watching. Once I finally reached a real human and was served a very mediocre dinner in my enormous, underfurnished room, my dinner tray sat outside my room for almost a full day. I called roomservice to retrieve it. No one came. Housekeeping came and went yet the tray stayed. On the positive side,my room was clean as was the rest of the hotel. I had business downtown and walked to my appointment. However, downtown is mostly as sad and desolate as the hotel. Maybe some revitalization can turn things around. Until then, stay somewhere else. "Gorgeous Hotel"
I am originally from El Paso, TX. I lived in a downtown area as a kid and would always see this hotel (on the outside). I knew it was nice. We went to visit my family for Christmas and decided to stay here. To my surprise, it was a gorgeous, 4 star quality hotel! The inside is extremely clean and luxurious. They have a bar with a Tiffany's dome that […] is aclaimed to be one of the top 10 bars in the world. The room was very spacious and clean. The only complaints is that the shower head is old and the water pressure was very low. The tv also had very poor reception. We had cable but it looked like we were watching a tv with the old antenna ears. It is located right off the freeway and the main civic center. The downtown El Paso area at night is very quiet. All the business close at night so it's sort of a "ghost area". I would definitely stay at this hotel again! It must be good enough for stars too since I heard Shakira stayed at this hotel when she was on her tour! Les mer
"Unbearable Heat"
The room was so hot, we could not sleep. The maintenance people were unable to do anything about it as it is a single pipe system and the hotel does not have AC once the heat is turned on. The windows are nailed shut (due to security reasons according to the maintenance people) and we could not open to allow some cool air into the room. I would never […] stay at this hotel again. The new Doubletree will be my next selection. Les mer
"Camino Real Hotel - El Paso TX"
-Toilet was not clean on the inside, talked to front desk and got it cleaned. -Thermostat did not work properly, room was stuffy, windows did not open. -TV had a clitch cause it was not showing all the channels. -Hotel is nice but still needs some minor improvements.
"Disappointed"
On 12/29/01 My wife and I were married and had our reception and dance at this very hotel, it was knowen for its charm, elegance and butty, what 10 years does to a place, this hotel after further investigation from me did not host the players for the Sun Bowl game this year upkeep was the reason. Our room was very big with a TV that Im sure was over […] 15yrs old 24" furniture was scratched and worn and even with that we were ok. The problem comes when you go into the rest room , the floors were filthy and had some grit or sand all over it even on the towels themselves. The water when opened had to be run for several minutes the water was BROWN samething with the shower Horribale will not reccommend this hotel until the upkeep is done. Les mer
"Camino Real El Paso"
It was 12:00 am, all I wanted to do is get some sleep. The heater would not operate my room was an ice box. contacted front desk about problem, they sent maintenance man to repair at midnight. Took him over 45 minutes to find problem all this time he was in my room trying to repair and I couldn't get any sleep. I finally got feed up and called front […] desk for another room. After some explaining of why I needed another room , they gave to me. New room, again problem wit heater system too loud. I didn't get any sleep. I will not stay there again, hotel is too old needs major attention. Les mer
I had a smooth check in but wasn't reminded of the room deposit or the check out time. It would have been nice for the heater to be turned on however once we realized the AC was still on someone quickly came to fix it. Unfortunately the room didn't heat up at all. We were offered another room or a space heater but it was our personal choice to just […] stay in the room for the night. We had plenty of blankets. There was a nightclub or bar somewhere nearby because the people laughing and having fun could be heard in our room that was on the 5th floor. Considering the well kept lobby, bar and restaurant the rooms were very dated which was kind of a disappointment. Yes the main reason we stayed there was because it was an older hotel however the bedding and lack of a nice floor in the bathroom was a downer. Not the best place I have stayed at but hardly the worst. For the amount they charge for the rooms it would have been nice to see some renovated rooms with more modern day amenities. Pleasant staff and plenty of parking for a a small fee. Les mer
"Great old hotel, cool location, odd service"
Funny juxtaposition of physical beauty with staffing incompetence. You won't find a more spectacular bar room in another hotel, but then again you won't be awakened 3 times in the same night by a malfunctioning fire alarm in another hotel either. Unfortunately and unpleasant memory will last longer than I would like - a half-uneaten dinner plate of […] re-fried beans, set outside a guest room, was still there when I went to a meeting at 8AM the next day and was still there when I got back from the meeting at 2PM - disgusting! (no offense to those who lover re-fried beans). Les mer
"Camino Real Hotel in El Paso, NOT WORTH THE $"
The hotel is historic, but that does not mean it has to be rundown. I paid way too much for a room that felt like a cheap motel. The linens were torn and the lamp shades were stained. The room also lacked the small conveniences that most 3 star hotels have like a small refrigerator and a luggage rack. There was no place to put my things except on the […] old dusty couch that was in the corner. The bed was uncomfortable and in the morning when my fiance and I wanted to watch TV it would not turn on. Perhaps it was because it was a TV from the 80's. I'm ok with old TV's and old furniture but only if I'm not paying very much and if the hotel does not claim to be fancier than it is. Also, they had not green initiative, which most hotels have these days (changed sheets every day, no recycling, etc). They also charged for parking, which seems silly because it's El Paso, not Chicago and they already charged quiet a bit for a room that was below par. The location is about all the Camino Real Hotel has going for it. If you need to stay in down town El Paso this is one of the only options that is within convenient walking distance to down town attractions and restaurants. Les mer
"I'd rather sleep in a foxhole"
So disgusted I checked out early! I booked this hotel for a last minute business trip. It seemed appealing, especially for a good price. I quickly realized that I made a huge mistake. The hallway had trash on the floor, which stayed there throughout my stay. My room smelt like a case of air freshner was dumped all over the bed. There were multiple hairs […] on the bathroom floor, which by the way was a sticky mess. There were two lights burnt out above the sink which DID’T DRAIN! The house keeping staff failed to provide new toiletries for two straight days and failed to clean up the hairs on the floor. The fitness center looked like a garage gym. There was a variety of used free weights, small television, limited cardio equipment, no sanitizing wipes, etc. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME! And to the manager, no I do not want to give you another chance to make it up. It's not worth my time. Les mer

"Camino Real El Paso, Tx"
The amenities like TV, coffee maker, blow dryer were very outdated. The room was not decorated much. I found a hair on my bed. I wasn't too thrilled to stay here.
"MUCH NICER THAN EXPECTED"
Very nice hotel. no complains other than the area which we knew about already. Don't go out after dark. We stayed at the hotel after dark and had a great time at the bar. Live music was fun and great. Thumbs up!
"Old but Classy"
We stayed 3 nights in a room with 2 double beds, and it was very spacious. The beds were comfortable, and they were supplied with pillows of different firmness so you could choose your favorite. The water pressure in both the sink and shower was AMAZING, and you could control the pressure in the shower. The hotel is old, and so it may seem outdated […] to a lot of people, but it's still classy. The TV was an old tube (with auxiliary hookups), which was a disappointment, and some of the lamps in the room had trouble staying lit (we had to screw the bulbs in tighter or jiggle the switch). If I remember correctly, there were a total of 3 lamps in the room and no overhead, so the room wasn't very bright unless you opened the curtains (during the day). The a/c-heating unit was old (no cool or heat option--just a temperature dial and a lo-med-hi-off dial), but it wasn't a noisy window unit. I didn't notice any air flow in the bathroom, so the condensation after showering was a bit of an issue. The location downtown was convenient, but be aware that on the weekends, the bars close at 2 am, resulting in sirens, lots of horns going off, and other related noise. All of the staff were very pleasant and helpful-- everyone we passed greeted us with a smile and wished us to enjoy our day. They also had a computer and printer for guest use as well as a gift shop and on-site restaurant. I probably wouldn't stay there for the full price, but it's worth the online rate. Les mer
"Worth a visit."
I enjoyed a clean, large, quiet room. It is an old, beautiful hotel. Check out the Dome bar for food, drink, and live jazz - all excellent. I would happily return.
"Camino Real Hotel is the best....."
The Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. This is my second stay, and was even better than the first. The Dome Bar was beautiful. This will be my "go to" hotel for all of my El Paso trips!! Special shout out to Charlie, the bartender in the Dome Bar. She rocks...
"Historic for a reason"
This is just a really old hotel, and it is clearly evident by the condition of the rooms. Very outdated. I wasn't displeased by the service, I was just surprised by the condition of the hotel.
Room was not cleaned during our stay. Nothing was done, beds not made, trash not emptied, bathroom not cleaned, towels not exchanged for clean ones. Advised the desk clerk, clerk only said they were sorry. No effort to correct the problem or any offer of compensation for the poor service provided.
"Hotel Camino Real El Paso no king bed"
I was a little dissapointed because they didn't give me a deluxe king bed bedroom, the one I reserved online.
"El Camino Real in El Paso, TX"
Nice hotel, great location and lots of history. Thats why it was so disappointing to see the out dated Mechanical, Electrical and especially the plumbing fixtures. The MEP fixtures are in desperate need of an upgrade. Like showering with a water hose with just could water!
""Arcitectual Stunner""
A beautiful world class design but the Restuarant service and attention to detail did not match up to other Camino Real Hotels or other Prestige Hotels. Dirty Menu's, cheap silverware, polyester linens. Poorly trained restaurant staff, and under staffed. Great location. 1 Block to Convention center and close to other good restaurants. Nothing open on […] Sunday nights in El Paso. Les mer
"Camino Real Hotel - perfect location"
i went to get work done at the Washington Dental Clinic - only five minutes away, so the ultimate convenient location. great food in the neighborhood, easy access to numerous fine restaurants, fun shopping, and great old architecture in a revitalizing area. The hotel is in the 'golden horseshoe' of shops near the border - perhaps off-putting to some, […] but intriguing if you have any sense of adventure. Spectacular interior in the old parts of the hotel. Les mer
"Camino Real El Paso"
This is great to look at and visit but I will not stay here again. Creaky beds. Old bathroom floors and showers. It also smelled musty. For the price, you can get a nicer more comfortable room elsewhere. Not to mention with breakfast.

"Great Hotel and Staff"
Was very happy with the hotel. My family liked it as well. Will stay there again for sure.
"A little run down"
I thought this hotel would be incredbly nice, but the room's walls and ceilings had chipped paint and the sink and toilet were constantly running. The surrounding area was full of shopping if you want cheap stuff that is guaranteed to fall apart. I would rather stay near the airport than here again.
"Awesome!"
I loved this hotel. Rooms were big and the lounge is beautiful!! Tvs could use some upgrading but overall great experience
"Needing update!!!!!"
I had a used soap on my shower, it was a gross experience
"Camino Real in El Paso, TX"
This is my second time staying at Camino Real because it is close to the border and we see our family from Mexico. The service at the front desk is terrible. My mother has worked in the hotel business for 20 years and has taught me great hotel etiquette. Both times I have arrived incredibly early in the morning and they were unable (but seemed unwilling) […] to provide me with a room. Yes, I was there before check-in but half the hotel was empty. I have never had that occur in other hotels in other cities around the world! Disrespectful. Les mer

When I checked in the person at the desk checked me into a standard room when I had booked and paid for a king suite. He did not say a word when I got to the room it was not what I had paid for. I immediatel informed them that there was a probelem. He initially told me that was all that they had. I aske d for his manager and at that time the suddenly […] came up with the right room. "Grand old lady"
The Camino del Rio, once the Del Norte Hotel, is no longer the most comfortable place to stay in El Paso and the surrounding area is interesting, including both luxury and squalor, but it remains a delightful place to stay. I'm 73 yrs old and we often stayed there when I was a child when it was by far the most elegant. The Tiffnay dome, once over the […] check in desk now above the bar, is incredibly beautiful Parking is awkward but sufficient. The hotel was built before the automobile was standard for travel and the accomodation for today is done pretty well. Excellent location for things going on at the civic center (about a block) and even better for the old theater across the street. San Jacinto Plaza is a block away and it is the heart of urban El Paso. I was thrilled to be able to take my grandchildren to stay there. They also loved it. Les mer
"camino real is bad service, broken furniture"
the wifi didn't work, the room service never answered, the furniture in my room was broken, the bathroom was awful and the hotel staff ignored me until i made a stink, then forgot to give me my credit card back and i had to drive all the way back. i will never stay here again, neither should you. overpriced, i would have been better off at la quinta […] inn. "Camino Real Hotel"
Extremely disappointed in this property. A historic hotel with absolutely nothing to show. The service was very poor, front desk of no help. The room is dreary & old. No desk in room to work, thin bed and a tiny TV from the '90's. For the price they're charging? Keep looking.
"Camino Real in El Paso Tx"
At first I was having problems, but when I spoke to the managers it was better, beds not good at all not up to date, am not sure if it was just the rooms we were given.Breakfast bunch was very good n security as well.

"Dirty, Unkept poorly run"
This is a histporic hotel in an area a few blocks from the Juarez border. Hotel bar has lovely dome, but the overall hotel is a poor experience. I was greeted by a long line at the front desk. Seems like a lot of side chat being conducted by the staff, catching up on their weekend plans. I could hear calls coming in from customers unhappy with their […] rooms, and they were being shuffled around. As I wet to my room, I noticed the general appearance of the hotel was run down and just dirty, fingerprints on walls, carpet stains everywhere, repainting of walls doors poorly done at random places. I got to my room and could not believe how grimy it felt. It was the, "don't walk on the bathroom floor without shoes" feeling. I can't remember the last hotel I stayed at that had a tube TV about 19 inches. Cable channels were off, many missing, unprogrammed remote. The remote would just stop working (I confess, I surf a lot). The shower was horrible, it would suddenly turn ice cold whenever anyone close (next rooms?) would run their water, so many times, I would feel a reduction in the pressure and would quickly move out of the way to avoid being hit with ice water. On the day of checkout, I was very pleased to be leaving. I wanted to avoid the muck of the lobby, so I tried calling downstairs to check-out. It just kept ringing and ringing, no voicemail. I tried back 5 minutes later and same thing. Finally, had to go down and wait in a line to check out. I told the clerk about not being able to get ahold of anyone and he just shrugged his shoulders and said they were busy. Then, an outside call came in and he had me wait while he took the call, of course in spanish. During this time, a taxi driver that was lurcking (yes, they just kinda stand around in the lobby, stinking up the place) was listening to the conversation on the phone and flagged for the clerk to give him the phone, at which point he did. No more of this crappy hotel, next time I'll just go with tried and true hotel Les mer

Beautiful old historic hotel. Everything was very nice. However, we thought it was strange that the front desk clerk said that nearly all the rooms were occupied, but we never saw any other guests during our entire three day stay. This downtown area feels unsafe after dark and the view from the hotel looks directly at the Juarez boarder crossing.

"Not a First Choice"
This is not a business travelers' hotel. We stayed there on a Sunday night, so that might account for some of what follows. The room was dark (in a very large space, only two of those CFL lamps to provide light) and sparsely furnished. Typical of older hotels, there were no extra electrical outlets for power cords and chargers. The restaurant in the […] hotel is the only convenient place to find a meal. Dinner was 'forgettable.' The enchiladas were poorly prepared and not hot. Breakfast was better, but the service took forever. Almost no staff on hand, although our waitstaff was most friendly and helpful. Downtown El Paso looks like a third world city. Deserted, empty buildings. Les mer
