The hotel was located kind of on the edge of French Quarter, which made it easy to walk to just about everything, but without the noise of the Bourbon Street. The room wasn't huge, but we were only there to sleep and shower, mostly. The staff was helpful and friendly and parking was convenient. I'd definitely stay there again.

Room was small and laid out weird, beds uncomfortable, room faced the fire department. Location excellent. Probably would not stay here again. Staff friendly for the most part.

I love old buildings/hotels and this one will not disappoint. Great location and an easy walk down the street to Jackson Square. The staff has always been friendly and my preschooler loved the cookies and lemonade they kept well stocked in the lobby area.

It was a nice location right in the French Quarter. The hotel rooms are small and the bathrooms are very small. The wifi could be better but it was free. The staff were decent. I really liked that we were in the French Quarter. We were within walking distance of everything. The trip was very enjoyable!

We had a good time, and the hotel was satifsying for the most part. However, our room was a WALK from the entrance; furthermore, it had NO windows. It was cold walking to our room, down long hallways, across balconies, etc. Kind of a weird location. Have stayed here before, and really liked it, but this room was a little short of very nice. The location of the hotel was amazing! Blocks away from Bourbon St. while still being far enough away to get a good nights rest. The staff was very accommodating and even let us park our car in their garage after we checked out. The issue for me is the price your paying and what you get. If this was a $100 night hotel I would give it four stars. But […] for the rate it charged and the condition the room was in, it just isn't worth the "fancy" price. If money isn't an issue, and your looking for location, then Bienville House is a great place. Les mer

Upon check in, we noted that the pillow cases had obviously not been changed since the previous occupant checked out. The Housekeeper was very nice and replaced them, noting that the laundry hadn't come in the day before... The place needs a complete re-do. There was a lady by the breakfast buffet, I guess to make sure you only took one cup of coffee […] at a time, but aside from that, the staff was friendly and helpful. The price was more than double what we paid at the Omni for the extra night we decided to stay in NOLA. And the Omni has a well deserved 4 star rating. Les mer

For the price we were a bit disappointed in the level of the hotel. It seemed a bit old and I realize its a historic building but....IT seemed like the general maintenance was haphazard at best. The rooms are small and extremely warm. We had a ceiling fan in one room which helped but the other did not and even with the temperature set at the lowest […] possible temp it was warm and never properly cooled off. Satalite signal never came in properly the TV kept having a digital pattern appear on the screen everytime we attempted to watch TV. Les mer

We stayed two nights and were impressed with the overall location, service and the cleanliness of our room. We will be staying with The Bienville house again. :)

Overall, I enjoyed my stay at the Bienville House. The "Old World" opulance of the lobby and room was quite lovely and their courtyard had a decided New Orleans feel to it with the brick, hanging plants and iron balconies. The staff were ok but as someone who works in the customer service industry, I have high expectations and I expect quite a bit […] when I stay in a place such as Bienville House. Being greeted by staff with a smile goes a long way however it is better to be acknowledged in the first place with a "How may I help you?" Both front desk staff and bellmen that I encountered during my 3 night stay needed to ramp up their enthusiasm and overall friendliness since it is will have a strong impact on a guests stay. One Bellman was too pre-occupied with texting to acknowledge me one morning and I noted he spent quite a bit of time with it each day. A female at the front desk failed to acknowledge me for several minutes while she worked on something else while I was waiting to check in. It is acceptable to say..."Good afternoon. Let me finish this and I will be with you in a moment." I did notice that the housekeeping staff that I encountered were very friendly and spoke to each guest who passed. I was impressed with their open smiles and friendliness. The bed was comfortable and soft with plenty of pillows. The complimentary breakfast consisted of only coffee, milk, juice and either a muffin or croissant. Pretty minimal. Les mer

Beautiful hotel. Perfect location in French Quarter. BUT, tiny bar directly across street had loud, rowdy patrons, screaming and fighting in the street til 3:30 AM!! Police actually showed up to calm situations couple times, but no help on noise.

The staff and service were wonderful! The only complaint is a serious one and that is the beds were lopsided and uncomfortable.

Very pretty hotel! Made the mistake of going through the French quarter ( bourbon) street to get there .. Tricky with so many people out and about! Also.. Use the public parking across the street .. We were scared our SUV would get dinged in small hotel garage. Also... Expected a better breakfast but... Guess there are plenty of food options nearby.. […] Overall.. Enjoyed our stay :) Les mer

Fantastic location and fantastic staff. The hotel is absolutely beautiful in the perfect part of town. Not too far from Bourbon street, but far enough where you do not hear the all night partying.

You could hear the noise from the street. Overall I was happy with the room, the bed was very comfortable and bathroom was very clean. Good coffee in the morning!

This is terrific hotel if you are looking for a boutique hotel with character and comfort. Staff were pleasant and accommodating. Convenient location.

Disappointed. When I read that one hundred people gave it four out of five stars I expected a pretty nice hotel. It was very small room, old musty smell that permeated the bedding, cheap thin towels and bedding like you find at Super 8. The extras like afternoon snack were just pathetic....store bought cheap cookies and lemonade mix? Why even bother?? […] The only nice thing I can say is the pool area is darling and the staff was very nice. If you are looking for a nice hotel room, look somewhere else..... Les mer

Overall, our stay here was lovely with a few non-attributable glitches. The first was that I booked an interior room after reading reviews that they were very quiet. Beware, interior room = no windows-- my own ignorance in booking. It was also very small. Second, there was no hot water on the 4th day of our trip, the only day we had strict time restraints […] as we were booked for an 8 AM tour. We reported to the front desk at 7:10 that there was no hot water, and were told there was no problem with the water, just let it run. After I skipped the shower and my husband took a cold shower at 7:35, we received a call from the front desk that the pilot had gone out, the problem was fixed, and we should try for hot water in about 10 minutes. While the call and the service was appreciated, it was too late for us to get our hot morning showers. On the plus side, Cynthia at the front desk was terrific throughout our stay, always pleasant and chatting with us as we came and went, kindly and expertly answering all of questions about transportation in the area, etc--she was always a straight shooter. The location of the Bienville House right in the French Quarter can't be beat. I would stay here again, but in a different room. Les mer

Absolutely the best location for accessing the French Quarter. Also it was close to the riverfront, the trolleycar & train station and not far from the Garden District or uptown New Orleans. It is only a couple of blocks from cafe Dumond, the openair market and Burbon Street. It is close to the interstate access & only 30 minutes from the airport. The […] staff were amazing. Great location, close to attractions and public transportation. The rooms were very nice. A little old, but clean and well decorated. The front desk staff was just great. Onsite parking was cheaper than a parking garage. Nicely arrayed free breakfast with lots of choices, cereals, yogurt, breads, fruit, etc. Wonderful wait staff. The downside was that […] the bell captain and staff weren't too sure about current events in New Orleans, in particular a disruption in the streetcar service, which we figured out on our own. The bar is not open every night, but they make up for it by the cost of the drinks. $$$. Room rates were moderate for New Orleans. We would definitely stay here again. Les mer

Worst hotel experience I have ever had, the staff were rude and unhelpful, my room was freezing, I wore a sweater to bed & had the heat up to 80 must have be broke. The breakfast was no better than a motels & they messed up my reservation, apparently they did not know I was bringing my pet with me, treated me like I was trying to sneak her in and I […] had to pay a hundred & twenty eight for one night and she was not even aloud out of her crate in the room. The best location - walk to Jackson Square and just two blocks to Mississippi. All shopping in French Quarter steps away. Pralines made right on the corner. Wonderful staff to answer all questions. Pretty courtyard to sit in and relax. We were truly happy there.

I stay in the city often and would stay here again. It's very close to everything in the French Quarter and the price is very reasonable. Absolutely loved my stay here!

Check in time starts at 3PM. Got there at 4PM and the lobby was crowded. Rooms were still not ready. Clerk asked for my name and I told her my first and last name. She must not have been listening because she asked me for my last name again. She found the reservation and printed it out. I filled out the guest information on the check in sheet and handed […] it back to her. She then went over the details of the room. She said it was a King bed room. I told her that was wrong. I had specifically reserved a room with two beds. She told me that was what the website had requested. I told her that I have a reservation for two beds and I can pull up the reservation on my I-phone. She then noticed that she had made a mistake. She had pulled up the wrong reservation. It was the same last name as me, but had a different first name. While she was printing the correct reservation, I said "Now I won't have to pull up the email confirmation, because I know that I reserved twin beds". She said, "I can do without your sarcasm". She NEVER apologized for her mistake. I don't think that I would stay there again, nor recommend it to a friend. There were other issues as well, like the parking fee, water was off for about 10 minutes in the room. The TV cabinet door would not stay back all the way, you would have to push it to enter or leave the bathroom. Les mer

we had a pleasant stay when we stayed there from 18/20 May...Bienville was a typical French kind of hotel which was exactly what we were looking out for. The courtyard is such a beautiful place. The rooms were a bit old and wished we had a bigger window opening out on the courtyard, but otherwise everything was fine. The location is perfect ...very […] much in the French Quarter...walking distance to the famous Bourbon street and yet not so close to be disturbed. Great location, wonderful staff. We were traveling with 3 children under 5, the staff were so very helpful. Only negative is the pool was sooo cold. But everything else was perfect.

To get to our room we had to take the elevator to the fourth floor, go into a hallway that was open-air, traverse down a ramp and then cross a terrace area provided for three rooms. At the end of the terrace we had to open a door, step up one step to enter another hallway, go down six steps and proceed down the hallway, and go a short distance to our […] room. The room was so cramped that my husband stubbed his toe on furniture each time he tried to walk along his side of the bed. The bathroom was extremely small. There was a sink with no surface area to put toothbrushes much less anything else. The only towel rack was over the back of the toilet so to dry one's hands it was necessary to lean over the toilet. The floor level of the bathroom was six to eight inches higher than the bedroom floor and there was a swooping very short incline to negotiate into the bathroom. It was almost impossible to make the step without stubbing one's toe on the marble door facing getting in and then falling forward as one stepped out. We were thrilled to leave without physical injury. Room 416 and any others like it are not for the elderly. My husband is 80 years old. Upon leaving we were facing a 7 to 8 hour drive home, and we had to wait 20 minutes for the desk clerk to show up so we could check out. We have stayed in numerous hotels in New Orleans over our 30 years together and this was the worst room we've had. Les mer

We stayed for a surprise overnight visit on our way back to Chicago from Texas. This was our first stay at the Bienville, and we were very pleased with our choice! This was one of the largest rooms we've stayed in, in the French Quarter, The room was immaculate. The staff was helpful, friendly and efficient, and the bell desk/valet service was excellent. […] Also, the location of the hotel, right on Decatur, was perfect for us--we were able to visit Jackson Square, the French Market & lower Decatur without having to deal with the crowds on Bourbon St. The only drawback was a somewhat outdated bathroom, but that's a minor issue.
