Rommet egnet seg ikke for ekstraseng, det ble veldig trangt og transportable ekstrasenger er ikke noen god løsning. Hvis det skal være flere på rommet enn 2 personer bør det enten være 2 ekstra store senger eller sofa som kan brukes som seng. Vi kontaktet Hotels.com på forhånd og fikk til svar at rommet var egnet for minst 3 personer.

Her bodde vi i 8 netter, og vil nok huske dette en god stund. I 7 etasje fikk vi rom ut mot gata, støyen gjorde det vansklig å sove. Dusjen hadde akkurat nok trykk til å få seg en vask. Frokost var så dårlig at det er en skam i 2011, er du plass etter kl 8.30 kan de ha gått tom for mat. Utvalgt er bedre i ei pølsebod. De som jobbet der var hyggelig […] og hjelp så godt de kunne. they messed up the reservation and did not have a suite available for us.the breakfast buffet closed an hour early without warning when my son was not even awake yet. older building so the windows did not block out the loud street at all

Tim at front desk was wonderful. Lacks major ammenities like gym and business center, but very accomodating front-desk and hotel services. Very ecclectic place. I would stay again.

Enjoyed wine and cheese everyday between 5 and 6:30, relative proximity to Union Square at a competitive price , and complimentary continental breakfast. Missed having a mini refrigerator.

The staff was very welcoming and the hotel has a great location, close to Union square. Nice rooms.

The hotel is ok, but for the price, the rooms are extremely small. Also the walls are paper thin. There was a restaurant outside my room and even though I was on the 3rd floor, I could here conversations word for word. I was kept awake unitl 1-2am by how loud it was outside. The staff was friendly and helpful and the room was clean.

Nice little surprise of a hotel. Grateful for the upgrade, as I received a charming corner room on 7th floor. Old old building has been remodeled nicely. Didn't take advantage of complimentary shot of tequila at check-in (got there at 10am...although it probably would have made the conference I was attending more fun). Down sides: noisy location, very […] sketchy neighborhood (MUST take cabs at night), hair in bathtub. Up sides: great bed and wonderful staff. Les mer

We had a wonderful time in the beautiful city of San Francisco! The staff was friendly, helpful, and fun. Breakfast and the afternoon wine and cheese was very nice and appreciated. Overall, The California Hotel was a lovely place to stay!

The hotel staff were warm & inviting, but our room was right next to an outdoor night club with partying going on into the early hours of the morning, be sure to check your room is not on that side of the building if you are a light sleeper. We loved the fact that this is an old hotel. That is to say, it was charming and cozy. The staff were fantastic...always ready to help, offer a tip, store our bags after we checked out (we had a red-eye flight out), We also loved the central location. We walked everywhere!! The included breakfast was extraordinary. It had fresh-made waffles, eggs, ham, […] all kinds of cereal and breads, yogurt, just to name some of the items! The room was very bright and the bed was very comfortable. The only down side was that the room was a little on the cool side. We were there in early January and the in-room heater worked, but just didn't seem able to put out quite enough heat. Then again, San Francisco was under an unusual cold spell while we were there. I'm sure that under normal conditions it would have been fine. I'd go back!! Les mer

Everything was pretty nice about this hotel except the room and the neighborhood. We paid a lot for a Suite that turned out to be two small rooms connected by a small hallway and a bathroom. The beds weren't very comfortable in my opinion, way too soft and fluffy. The neighborhood was the worse experience. Older Hotel but it has lots of charm and a great Vegan Restaurant. Kept up very well. Plus I am a fervent Eagles fan.

The Hotel has its charme for sure. Very antique and oldfashioned. Room was very small and smelled like used socks when you enter it. Bed was not so comfortable because of soft matress. Bathroom needs an update as well. In the shower there were still hairs from previous guest left. And I really don`t like this. It`s gross. Only one bathrobe. Maybe we […] could have get another one, but why do I have to ask for an additional one, when I book this room for 2 people. Extremely loud - there is an open bar (big) at the inner courtyard. Street noises (from police cars and street cleaning vehicles) are very loud too, but of course it`s downtown and the windows are old fashioned too. Some stuff members were very helpful and some not so. Everyday different one. Breakfast is continental. I did not like the coffee at all. Aweful taste. I guess it was starbucks. The hotel was a bit overrated for its comfort. I have had better hotels downtown for less money. Les mer

We liked our room, it was cute, clean and had a lot of character. The wooden floors were quite special, along with the huge windows. The staff were very helpful and nice. The only downside was that the king bed had a pretty big dip in the middle. Otherwise I would rate this 5.

I loved the hotel, its not for children at all. because the roms are small n cozy. Book this is its just for you and your sweetie, no kids.... This hotel is located in the heart of downtown so if you DONT like noise dont book here, we njoid it very much. They serve a nice breakfast thats free but we tried DOTTIES which is in walking distance for breakfast […] is a must go to, you will have a line but the food and service was well worth the wait, must go see Beaches of Babylon excellent play I must say, Tim, & Baji at the front desk were great!! Dont rent a car if you plan to tour Alcatraz unless you dont like to walk, we walked there it took us 30 min exactly to the pier leave hotel make a left out front door make a left on Stockton and keep it straight down to the pier, no hills or nothing. I visited the Best Western Hotel California for 6 days to attend a conference at the nearby Moscone Conference Center. I wanted to stay closer to the Center, but the hotels were booked up. The walk was not bad though, about 20 minutes, and you get to pass by Union Square and see some of SF's famous trolleys go by. The hotel itself is very clean, and […] I found the staff to be helpful and courteous. The only negative thing I have to say about my experience was that the surrounding area is a bit sketchy at night. Many drifters and street noise, so I might not recommend this if you are traveling with a family. But I travelled by myself and never felt unsafe, just a bit more cautious than normal. Our family of 5 stayed here in August and we had a wonderful experience. Had the 2 bedroom suite and it was perfect. The central location was great, the breakfast every morning was delicious. The only minor flaw was the very slow elevator but that was no big deal.

The cost per night was out of line for the offered amenities. Not a good neighborhood with beggars at the hotel door.

My only compliant about the room was the water pressure and temperature was awful in the room. Everything else was great! Would stay again

This hotel was clean et had a good location ! We found our stay without any incident for a one night stay !! The personnel was kind and polite

Overall good. Matteresses need to be changed out for new. Bath towels too small. Staff helpful. Dont go for the next door cheaper parking; they are a bunch of money grabbing thugs.

This hotel is located in a very old building, and it shows. The room we stayed in was closet-sized with only one electrical outlet and no air conditioning, but I'm sure that is standard for many establishments in San Francisco. It did have an old overhead fan, but it listed from side to side and seemed very close to falling down. The bathroom was basically […] dismal, with old pink shower tiles, cracked floor tiles, a patched tub, and a sloppy grout job applied over the fixtures. Cosmetic issues aside, the water temperature oscillated between burning hot and freezing cold, so I opted to go without a shower. The good news, I guess, is that I now have a renewed appreciation for the amenities at home. Les mer

Only go here if you want to party all night. The bar down stairs is extremely loud and you need ear plugs to sleep. The rooms are small. The TV did not work in one room. All of the people that work there were nice except for the chef that verbally attacked my wife in front of my 6 year old son over him trying to help pour milk on his cereal. The guy […] was absolutely ridiculous in his behavior and should be fired for the way he acted. This went on for ten minutes with him continuing to give every one in the family dirty looks the entire time we had breakfast. This is the worst treatment I have seen from a hotel employee toward a guest in 20+ years of traveling. Les mer

This hotel is awesome! It's really central, the staff are super friendly, the rooms are lovely, the restaurant downstairs is one of the best in the city, and there's free wi-fi! To top it all off, they have a wine and cheese gathering every evening for guests to share travel stories! Breakfast was awesome. Kinda noisy which is understandable considering it's the city. However, the bathroom faucets were hard to regulate if you are taking a shower. It is hard to get the kind of temperature comfortable for taking a shower. May need to update on plumbing.

Every night on our way back to the hotel we were confronted by the homeless population, panhandling. The men were not dangerous but not something I like to deal with when on vacation.
