"svært fint hotel og svært sentralt"Anmeldt av en hotels.com-gjest den apr 29, 2012
Jeg var 10 dager i tokyo og lå på Hotel Sunroute Plaza Shinjuku. Rommet var fint, resturangen var fin og hadde god mat. Men spiste aldri frokost der. Hotellet lå sentralt, nært shoppingsmuligheter, matbutikk, minibank og metroen like utenfor døra.

Veldig mye for pengene, anbefales!

"A very nice scenic hotel"
Hotel - given that we went during spring (cherry blossoms, sakura period), the hotel has a Japanese styled garden right in the middle of its premises (where the outside public is also allowed entry), which is beautifully-naturally decorated with lots of cherry blossom trees, old Japanese huts/shrines, rocks, architecture, zen-looking rock arrangements. […] This is just absolutely scenic! There was even quite a fair of outside public seen walking the premises and snapping their cameras for a photo or two.. The hotel has an brick-styled facade which is typically of old-styled japanese hotels, but filled with rich, modern interiors, giving the hotel a very modern-yet-old-feel-kind of hotel. And accompanied with such a scenic garden, this hotel is quite worth even cent. The room is decently sized, just like all other Japanese hotels that we had stayed in before during our trips, but coupled with great amenities. The hotel has even bars/resturants/cafes for guests to hang out, within the hotel itself. A full fledged hotel. Service from the staff is good as always, just like any other Japanese service staff that you may see during your shopping trips. Surroundings - given the hotel is located on top of a small hill, the surroundings thus is a little quiet but peaceful. Shinagawa is almost like a business district area, so do not expect much night establishments open around the area. Convenient shops are around 7-10 mins walk away.. Transport - Shinagawa is one of the busiest/important train interchange where both the subway/metro lines and Shinkansen (bullet trains) are present. So it is extremely convenient for one to travel to and from Shinagawa to explore Tokyo. And yes they operate pretty early till pretty late.. so there is never a worry for you to be stranded out somewhere in Tokyo. Shopping - not much shopping in the area, given the earlier explanation that it is more of a business district. But there is still some, just like most JR train station whom have some s Les mer
"Dated, but comfortable and great location"
I had stayed here about 5 years ago, so when I booked this time I knew what to expect. This hotel is a bit dated - the lobby and architecture makes you think it is 1972. The rooms are comfortable, but also a tad dated compared to the latest business hotels in the same area (like the Intercontinental Strings). However it is at least half the cost of […] that hotel, and I think a fair tradeoff. The location is just a 1.5 blocks from Shinagawa station, and a great place for business. The garden next to it is amazing, and I think makes up for the datedness of the lobby. Overall I think this hotel is a great trade-off for price/comfort/location for doing business in the Tokyo area. One caveat: The "free" internet is ONLY for WIRED internet. If you want WIFI it costs extra. I was okay with this, but I saw other guests in the hotel who were a put off by this. Les mer
"Just a short walk farther"
When leaving Shinigawa station, there are numerous Prince Hotels in sight. The Grand Prince Hotel Takanawa is a little harder to spot and the walk is only a minute or two farther, but it is every bit as luxurious at a much more competitive price. The staff was eager to make the stay as pleasant as possible. If you need to access the Shinigawa Station […] and can tolerate up to a 5 minute walk, I highly recommend this hotel. Les mer
"Good location close to Shinagawa Station"
It is an older hotel but clean and room's size is adequate for Japanese standards. It was a challenge to communicate with the reception staff because we were a group with 4 rooms and breakfast charges. Their English skills are not that great. The location close to Shinagwa Station is a big plus especially for those who use JR Pass. If we ever return […] to Tokyo we would probably stay there again if the price is right. Les mer
"Great location, older hotel but first class staff"
A short walk from Shinagawa Station so very easy to get anywhere quickly by train. Hotel is a little dated but don't let that dissuade you. Rooms and bathrooms are a little small by modern standards but perfectly comfortable - unless you are an NBA basketball player in which case you may prefer to stretch out in the corridor. It has always been an excellent […] hotel - with the usual outstanding and genuinely friendly Japanese staff. Les mer

"Needs Updating"
Room was comfortable, but in serious need of a major update. I felt like I was in an eastern European hotel in the 70's. Location is okay, a bit off the beaten path but close to Shinegawa Station. Understanding of English was minimal. I was told the room came with free internet. Wired internet, no wifi. I found that be be a bit dubious.

"Excellent service"
Pros: Great location, great service, clean and spacious rooms. Cons: Firm bed, stains on carpets, charges to call long distance even if using a phone card. Overall: Recommended
"5 mins from Shinagawa Station"
A bit pricey but a convenient stay. 5 minutes from Shinagawa Station which also has the shinkansen service. The service was nice and they speak English. The interior could do well and be refurnished, but nothing really to complain about. I could see the Tokyo Tower from my room and it was beautiful to see at night. You're best to get a taxi to the […] hotel (even if it's 5 mins away) as it's on a slope and can be quite difficult to wheel luggage uphill. Nevertheless, I enjoyed my stay. Les mer
"Tokyo Grand Prince Hotel Takanawa"
everytime i come to tokyo i will stay at this hotel. the staff is extremely friendy and everything about this hotel is great. the room i had this time had a great view of tokyo tower which was beautiful at night. the train station is a 10min walk down the hill or you can wait for the shuttle bus thats free and brings you straight to the shinagawa station. […] i will always stay at this hotel when i visit tokyo no matter what. its the best place i have stayed for a decent price Les mer
"decent hotel, decent price"
conveniently located near shinagawa train station. staff was mostly english speaking, room was clean, but not super modern. free internet access.
"Takanawa Prince Hotel Shinagawa Tokyo"
Well kept large rooms with great views. Staff were friendly and helpful with information on both the hotel and how to get around Tokyo. Highly recommended!
"Superb - one of the best hotels !"
I booked on a promo deal through hotels.com, the hotel is a very short walk from the big JR station. It is situated in the middle of a stunning garden, the rooms I booked was not available so I was upgraded and they apologised for it!!! I could not recommend this hotel hotel more. The only slight problem was the cost of the restaurants (of which there […] is a great selection) in the hotel, but I'm sure the food is superb. But if you don't want to spend more than the cost of your room on a meal there are plenty of excellent places within a couple of minutes of walk of the station Les mer
"Grand Prince Hotel Takanawa-conveniently located"
Good location in Tokyo, a few hundred meters from the main Shinagawa train station. It is walking distance, but most of it uphill. If you are coming by train and If you are carrying a suitcase, be aeware of it, it may be more convenient to take a taxi cab from the station instead of walking. The room is spacious, by Japan standards. Pricing is fair, […] for the quality of the room and service. Hotel is 400 meters from a subway station, connecting you to almost anywhere in Tokyo. I was in the 12th floor, I had a great view of the city from up there. Les mer
"Great hotel, bit of an uphill walk from station"
We recently stayed at the Grand Prince Hotel Takanawa for a week while on a two week visit, in a twin room on the 9th floor overlooking the garden. From the moment we entered, service was at the very highest - helpful and courteous staff, attentive and able - and this kind of service continued all throughout our stay. The room was nice and large (even […] by non-Japanese standards), clean, and cleaning staff/bell service was great. When we first checked in the room smelled a bit, but one call and they quickly came up to change the previously damp shower curtain and spray room. The hotel has a large walking garden at the back, that connects to the other Prince hotels (regular Prince Hotel, Grand Prince New Takanawa, and Sakura Towers), which was nice to wander around during some downtime. Other facilities include free high speed internet, laundry service (additional charge), and direct shuttle bus to Narita airport. I believe they have a pool in the New Takanawa branch, however I'm not sure about access or charges as spent most of the time outside the hotel. On googlemaps, the Grand Prince Hotel Takanawa looks close to Shinagawa station - while this is largely true, the walk is uphill and a lot longer than expected (10-15 mins on a hot summer's day, after a whole day of walking around Tokyo is not the most fun thing to do). You can cut through the Sakura tower and garden for a shortcut, or use the Prince Hotel shuttle bus service, running between the hotel and station every half hour starting from 8am and ending at 9pm. Do note that you must book to get onto it outwards from hotel, though you just walk on to get picked up from station. In terms of proximity to things, the Takanawa side has a few restaurants, convenience stores, food courts and shopping malls. There are a lot of decent food places inside Shinagawa station (find the standing sushi joint and you will not be disappointed, as they are part of a chain that source directly from Tsukiji fish markets daily). "Spacious rooms and good hotel"
Got room on 14th floor with view of Tokyo skyline and a tower that looked like Eiffel tower. The garden is pretty and the room was much bigger than other Prince hotels I stayed. Buffet breakfast is more expensive. The walk to Shinagawa station is a pain if you have luggage. I learnt just while leaving that the hotel has bus shuttle to Shinagawa station […] (for free??). "Grand Prince Hotel Takanawa Nice and Convenient"
Excellent Hotel in a good Tokyo district for visitors. Within walking distance (10 minutes), right up the hill from the busy Shinagawa station, this hotel is a great choice from which to access the city. Front desk service is polite and professional, most importantly proficient in English, including a currency desk for obtaining the all important yen. […] Rooms were spacious and comfortable for Japanese standards. Les mer
"A Convenient Hotel at a Reasonable Price"
Everyone at the Grand Prince Takanawa was friendly and accommodating. Situated within 5 or so minutes walking distance to the Shinagawa train station, it was very convenient to get around to anywhere I needed to go in Tokyo. The staff was great, they all speak English if you don't speak Japanese and did everything they could to make my stay comfortable […] and convenient. I'd recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Tokyo. Les mer
"Way better alterntive to the Shinagawa Prince"
I paid $25 more for this than a decrepit room at the Shinagawa Prince. After netting out free internet it cost $12 more. The surroundings of this hotel are serene and beautiful. I travel to Japan frequently. This is now my hotel of choice.
"Tokyo in February"
Our stay was very satisfactory. The staff was very helpful and polite and spoke enough English to answer questions and give directions. The location of the hotel was okay as it sits on top of a hill so, at the end of a long day; if you were walking it was a nice uphill stroll to complete your day's exercise. Our room was small but had everything we […] needed and the bathroom was spacious and clean. We were on the 8th floor so we were able to open the window and get a nice breeze to cool the room down which was kept too warm for our taste. The hotel offered a nice service which we took: "Green Service" meant that you decide for the room not to be cleaned and they reward you with a 500 Yen voucher that can be used in a hotel restaurant. You can only do it 2 nights in a row so we did it and took advantage of the 2 vouchers and a 20% discount coupon given at check in to apply it to a very nice meal in the Patio Cafe - that worked out very well. My only complaint, if any, would be that the room had only 1-2 channels in English including CNN. Les mer
"Outstanding Hotel"
The staff was overwhelmingly helpful. The room was large, clean, and modern. Breakfast is 2500 yen if you don't have a coupon but the variety and quality of food is excellent. The Chinese restaurant also was excellent. My side of the hotel overlooked a beautiful Japanese garden, and the room was very quiet. My only complaint is that the cabled Internet […] speed was not very fast. Les mer
"Grand Prince Takanawa - Early Check In"
beware of early check-in in Japan - and the Prince hotels in particular. A surcharge will be required if you want to access the room before the 2 pm check-in time - even if the room is available
"Nice hotel in Shingawa"
There are three or more hotels under the same group in that area, so make sure you go to the right one. This one was not quite close to the JR station, especially when you're with luggages, but hotel provides free shuttle bus to the station (reservation is required). Room view was nice, can see Tokyo tower. Hotel also has a nice garden. Staff helpful […] and friendly. Nice choice around that area (we stayed there because we're heading for the NRT airport next day and can board on NEX directly at Shingawa station). Les mer

Nice hotel with a decent sized room. Great view of Tokyo tower and surrounding skyline from the room. Room was as expected neat, tidy and clean. Less than 5 minute walk to Shinagawa train station but sadly uphill on the way to the hotel. Not a huge amount to do in the surrounding area but if you have a JR Pass then the Shinagawa train station is on […] the Yamamote line that you can use. Also you can walk to the Shinagawa Prince shopping complex. The hotel has a good system where you can elect to not have your room cleaned if you stay more than 2 nights. Each time you don't have your room cleaned you get a JPY1000 voucher to spend at the hotel's restaurants or stores. However, you must have your room cleaned every 3 days. Les mer
"This is a lovely hotel with beautiful surroundings"
The view out of our 12th floor window was spectacular. Everyone was very helpful and most spoke English which was a very big help.
"HUGH ROOM(S)"
Like most of the things in Japan, everything was spot on. The service, the room, location, etc. If you decide to stay in this hotel, go for a traditional Japanese room, it is a nice experience, and it's enormous, and unlike the other hotels, they don't charge as much for this type of room. As far as I remember the price was similar to a western style […] room. Many reviews talk about small rooms/small beds in Japan. We were pleasantly surprised. You actually get 3 rooms in one, fore room, sitting room, bedroom/TV room, with a separate bathroom, which again has a separate make up room and the actual bathroom, and toilet again - hugh! Beds are not actually there until the time you told the staff you want it set. The beds/futons live in one of many cupboards, together with what we believe were rise filled pillows. Apart from having a great experience, it was all very comfortable. We had room only, without breakfast, so can't comment on this, but am sure that the food is up to the same standard - excellent. As we were travelling from one city to another, we decided to post our luggage to Kyoto to a hotel where we've been booked next. The post office is next to the reception, and it costs very little, around 20 Euro for 3 big suitcases. Then we didn't need to worry about getting the the luggage to the station and into a train. Back to the hotel, the best thing about it is the location, it's 3 min walk to Shinagawa train station. I like to walk, but I found Tokyo challenging, so having a train station near the hotel is a def asset. It's a subway as well as shinkansen train station. so if you wish to travel to Kyoto, Osaka, Hiroshima, you are on the right spot! The staff are amazingly friendly, they all speak excellent English. There is a spa that we didn't have time to use. In the end I would recommend this hotel. Book in advance to get a good deal. Oh if you ever get hungry, there are many places to eat in the area, but the food seems the best in the actual train station and Les mer

"Grand Prince hotel Takanawa"
Hotel is just short walk from Shinagawa station which connects to all major routes in Japan ( shinkansen). Garden is absolutely beautiful and on arival we were greeted with a smile and amazing service. Although checking in was 2pm we got our room at 1 pm. Room is nice, internet is free ( special introduction). Nice peaceful location. Hotels.com deal […] is working great. All in all book this hotel with confidence if you are on mid budget. Les mer

"Underrated Hotel"
I love the Takanawa Prince. It is very close to Shinagawa Station (about 200 yards door to tracks if you take the back exit and cut through the garden). The staff is excellent, the internet is fast and not overly expensive, the windows open so you can make your room cool in the winter (Lots of Japanese hotels only have heat running in the winter. You […] only have the choice to make your room warmer, but not colder. Japanese like their rooms about 80 degrees, so I will always sleep with my window open to allow the cool air in.) Also, the neighborhood there (Takanawa, is very nice and has great little shops to eat in, and is very quiet at night. It's not a night life spot, but that's probably better for a hotel. You can always go out to the night life and don't have to worry about it going all night. However, the hotel does have a bar that is open very late. I have drank there past 3 AM. I'm not sure when it actually closes. I nearly always stay here when in Japan. Also, this is one of the stops of the Airport Bus (nearly all major hotels are), so you can pick up a lift to/from Narita right from the lobby. Les mer
"Needs improvement"
Lobby is looking good and sets an expectation level that really needs to be readjusted when you enter your room. Beds are very uncomfortable.
"Good, clean hotel in a good location"
This is an older hotel but very nice. The service and food was very good. The location was very close to the train with shuttle services on a regular basis. I would stay here again.
"Excellent Hotel"
My wife and I stayed there for three nights in September 2009. Hotel and service were great. Hotel food was too expensive but there are many good eating places within walking distance. The walk down the hill and back to the train station and shops could be a little strenuous but should not be a problem for most people. We would definitely stay there […] again. Les mer
"Great Stay!!"
Very convenient location to Shinagawa train station. Just a 5-10 minute walk away. Hotel provides shuttle to station every half hour as well. Station easy to negotiate around compared to some of the more complicated stations in Tokyo. Comp laptops available for use in business center. Had unobstructed view of Tokyo Tower from our room so could see different […] illumination every evening. They offer a rebate voucher of 1000 yen for each day you agree to reuse the same towels day as an environmental incentive. Offered every other day of your stay. Saved enough to have buffet breakfast which was excellent as well. Very friendly staff who were all highly competent in English language. Complimentary umbrellas made available upon first indication of rain... Would gladly stay here again... Les mer
"Great room for the money"
I wasn't real pleased with the location. Traveling up and down the hill everytime I went out became a bother. If this would have been the first hotel I stayed in during my trip, I suppose I might not mentioned this at all. Earlier in my trip, I stayed in Ikebukuro, and very much enjoyed that section of Tokyo and the proximity to the train station.
"Will stay at this hotel again"
My partner and I stayed at this hotel for a total of 5 nights and can't fault it. Our room overlooked the beautiful garden and it was very comfortable. It's also a five minute walk to the station where you can catch trains to most areas of Tokyo. There is an internet room where you can catch up with emails with no charge. We didn't eat at the hotel […] because there are plenty of other options nearby. I would definitely stay here again. Les mer
"Beautiful hotel in a great location"
The Grand Prince Hotel Takanawa is part of a complex of several hotels that surround a beautiful Japanese garden, a peaceful oasis in a very active neighborhood. Our room was lovely, service was excellent (the concierge was particularly helpful; she provided directions for the train system, various sightseeing maps, etc.). The hotel is located near […] the Shinigawa railroad station, a major hub for both Japan Rail (including bullet train routes)and private rail lines. There's also a limousine bus from the Narita airport that provides door-to-door service to the hotel. Overall, we were delighted with this choice. Les mer
"Very good place to stay"
The hotel is clean, service is good. Location is quite convenience, between two subway stations (JR Shinagawa and Metro Takanawadai). Lots of greens inside the hotel campus. "Great Hotel With Great Garden Area"
The staff is courteous and attends to your every need. The rooms are clean and well kept. We had a view of the garden area from our room. What makes this hotel is the garden/pond area attached to the hotel. It was great to walk around the garden in the evening.
"Nice hotel for price."
Hotel is older, but still in good condition. Very convenient location for public transportation system. Excellent customer service and very comfortable.
"Quietly located hotel in the heart of bustling city"
We enjoyed our stay at GPHT very much. Our standard room was quite small (that's Japan though) and some little renovation would be advisable, but it had all that you'd expect it to have - comfy bed, nice yukatas, LCD TV, tea pot/ cups/ tea - free of charge, English paper daily. We also had a great view of Tokio tower. There is also a great Japanese […] garden where you can sit and relax. Staff was very helpful and polite too. I liked their non-cleaning service (not only eco friendly but you can earn some voucher too!) Hotel is located in quiet neibourghood, and close to Shinagawa Station (Yamamote Line and Shinkansen). I'd recommend this hotel for your stay in Tokyo! Les mer
