Hotel Abri - Union Square - San Francisco

A very nice hotel. It is unfortunately across the street from a club that, at least on Saturday night, attracts way too much noise to offer a decent rest.

Very cute boutique hotel in a great location in the city. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. The beds were very comfortable too..

The hotel is great. The only problem is if you have a room on the street side, it is extremely noisy until the wee hours of the morning. But it's clean, has great service and is in a great location if you can handle the noise.

Hotel exceeded all expectations, for such a price we had no idea we could get a 4 star comfort in the heart of the city. Very modern design, cozy interior and super friendly service. It's a little noisy on weekends since there's a club right across the street, so till 2am its very loud, the only down side. Great experience , highly recommended!

While the location is good, the room I was in really stuffy and had a musty odor. Pigeons were using the window air conditioner as a toilet. The tv system is very slow to respond. The bed was cozy. Overall, I'm surprised this hotel has such a high rating.

Have stayed in a lot of hotels in this same neighborhood. Loved Abri and would stay here again. Street gets a little noisy, but it is the big city. Handy to MAX and taxis. Bed was super comfy and had the BEST Robes ever.

Stayed 1 night there before Christmas and it was a great experience. Friendly staff. Newly renovated but still had a lot of charm. In a great location. Room wasn't huge but given the age of the building I wasn't expecting it to be a suite. Would definitely stay there again if I wanted to be in the heart of SF.

This hotel is swanky new remodel in a very old building - no complaints...attached restaurant was great...check in service fair...biggest issue is that everyone seems to wait 30minutes for their car...the valet indicated that the parking is shared by 18 hotels with 10 valet staff currently...also, routine street noise was minimum, but early wake up […] by garbage trucks or some similar noise that lastest for an hour or more. Traveling all over Cali my boyfriend and I stayed one night in San Fran at the Abri and it was beautiful. Rooms were small but the price was good. It was a little loud with the traffic but we expected that because its no different in most cities. The staff was great, style was modern, and we felt safe. We would stay there again.

I was skeptical because Hotel Abri is so reasonably priced (even the parking is cheaper than at nearby hotels), but was absolutely thrilled with the accommodations. Location was perfect for doing the tourist thing in SF; room was lovely, clean, quiet and comfortable. Was also pleased that the "urban suite" actually had a door between the bedroom and […] living areas--when traveling with a young child with an early bedtime, this is a must! Best hotel for the buck!! No bed bugs, excellent service..very nice hotel. Plan on staying for a week in feb. rooms are small but that is typical for San Francisco. Center location..stay away from outside rooms..gets very noisy outside.

We arrived the day after Christmas at 7:00 AM in order to be at the stores for the after Christmas sales. Even though I knew check-in wasn't until afternoon, I took a chance and asked the staff if it would be possible to check in early. My request was granted and we were able to drop off our luggage in our room and then hit the stores for the sales. […] The room was an interior Jr. Suite which I was able to get through Hotels.com for a great rate. The suite consisted of a small living room w/ a sofa bed, lounge chair, desk w/ chair and a small table to eat meals at, should you choose. The bedroom had a very comfortable king size bed, chair, chest of drawers and a roomy closet. Two robes were hanging in the closet for guests to use. The bathroom was clean and had plenty of room to store personal items. The room was very quiet because it was an interior room. I would recommend this as opposed to a room facing the street. I have stayed in this area on previous visits at other hotels that had rooms facing the street. The noise can be very overwhelming, especially in older hotels. There was complementary coffee in the lobby downstairs along w/ local newspapers. The restaurant adjacent to the hotel is very good. I did not eat there on this visit, but I have eaten there before and the food was good. After shopping and a nice lunch, we headed back to our hotel room for a little R&R. We popped in a DVD and kicked back and watched a movie. After watching the movie, we headed out again for a little more shopping and brought back dinner which we were able to enjoy in our room in peace and quiet. I would definitely stay here again as the location is a 5 minute walk from Union Square and there is tons of great shopping right outside the hotel. If you are a tourist, the cable car is around the block and BART is a block and a half. Les mer

Very clean, nice decor. Great location to union square area and public transportation. Interior room was quiet. Only con was the bed was too soft.

- The hotel is located nearby Union Square and all a few blocks from the financial district. I did not use any of the public transportation but there seemed to be lots of options around. - Plenty of shops and restaurants just next to the hotel. - Hotel is VERY modern and good looking. Clean and amable service overall... Lobby is small but very classy. - […] the only downside for some people could be the noise (they offered me a room giving to the back of the hotel to avoid street noise but coming from NY, ambient noise was not an issue for me). They also give you ear plugs if you want. - the AC unit in the window did not give much heat (the weather was a bit cold for the season). I had to leave it on while going out for dinner in order to have the room at good temperature when I came back. - Free Wifi Internet (a must-have for me) - Free coffee in the lobby in the morning, free cocktail shot in the afternoon... nice touch! Overall excellent experience in this small but neat hotel... would definitely go back, the price was about half the price you'd pay for a Sheraton or other big name hotel (in which I usually stay) but this ABRI hotel doesn't really lack any of the luxury you'd get in those more expensive hotels.... just in smaller version :) Keep the good work! This was a great hotel, the staff was very congenial, the rooms were clean, we couldn't have asked for a better location to Union Square and the Theaters.

The staff are very friendly. They Serve free "Happy Hour" They asked us if we would like a Quiet room or a little bit noisy. There is only one bad thing, there is no breakfast. Everything else WE LOVED IT!!!

Hotel is perfectly located for walking to many great restaurants, shopping and the Bart. Stayed first night in window room overlooking street and Fusion niteclub and it was quiet noisy but interesting. Next night moved to interior room and slept wonderfully! Great affordable hotel with amazing location. Only negative was the street noise. One sheet ventilating window did not close properly, so all noise came straight in from the night club line directly cross the street (at 2am Sunday morning) Basically it was like sleeping outside noise-wise... Relatively inexpensive considering the area. Newly remodeled, just three years ago, and it shows! At every corner of the room, lobby, etc, you see the newly upgraded and renovated features, with a few small things here and there left from the old days, such as an old door handle and key hole in the bathroom door, which leads to a brand new tile and […] frameless glass shower stall with spotless chrome plumbing hardware. Modern decor in the room, about a 40" or so flatscreen TV on the wall with external hookups. A fortune must have been spent on the remodel. Cool staff, helpful and cheerful. We were on the second floor and the sound from the street at night was noticeable (there's a nightclub across the street with people waiting in line and hanging out outside the club), we were tired enough to crash out without any issues. Great location, right in the heart of the shopping district and near a number of restaurants - check out Mason Cafe for excellent cappuccinos, breakfast, lunch and dinner menus - really good stuff! We decided to stay in a boutique hotel this time and were very pleased with the Abri . It is located right around the corner from the Powell Bart station and near many restauants. The room may be considered small compared to chain hotels but it is typical to European rooms. It was comfortable in a modern style, clean and fine for the two of us. I booked this hotel based on proximity to a conference I was attending. I was somewhat apprehensive based on negative comments people made in many of the reviews. I asked for an interior room, as suggested, and it was very quiet. The room was nice, with plenty of space, big bathroom, clean and everything worked (It was a deluxe king, I think). The staff […] were all friendly, helpful and knowledgable about the area. The location is excellent. I would stay at this hotel again and absolutely recommend it to anyone going to San Francisco. Our room was on the 3rd floor overlooking front of hotel on Ellis st. The windows are old and thin, you can hear everything on Ellis st. The sirens,the horns, the construcion, the nightclub across the street As it empties at 2am. Horrible nights sleep in a loud cramped room.

Close to shopping! Macys is right around the corner. I stayed here for Halloween weekend and the hotel staff was very helpful withcalling a cab for us. They even had complimentary orange Halloween shots for us to have Saturday night. I would definitely recommend this hotel!

We booked a suite in the hotel and sincerely I am disappointed. The location is great if you want to be in the union square area, that is very good, but valet is expensive, service is very good in the morning because they have more people, but in the afternoon they leave only one guy to take care of the duties of concierge, valet, bell boy, etc etc. […] Basically the poor guy that gets that shift runs a one man band. The suite was ok, comfy, but noise coming from the closet which was below the stairs was very bad early in the morning. The problem with this hotel is the price, for the same price I thought I was getting a great boutique hotel, and the reality is that I should have stayed for even less in one of the big chain hotels on union square. I stayed here for a two day conference at Moscone West. The walk was relatively short, just a few blocks, and it was convenient to tons of other shopping and activities as well. This was my second stay here, and both times were consistent with each other. The hotel is well kept with clean and modern rooms. The staff is helpful and courteous. The rooms […] are a bit small, but this isn't unique to this hotel, in SF, every hotel has smaller rooms. I did forget my shaving razor this time, and they brought me a disposable to use at no charge. Unexpectedly, they also brought shaving cream. It did take about 30 mins to bring it to my room, but I can't fault them, I did ask for it during what was likely their morning rush (7 am). And that 30 mins was still less than it probably would have taken for me to run over to Walgreens (also near by) to get one. I highly recommend them and will continue to stay here when I am in town. The staff was exceptionally friendly and courteous. They defined what "hospitality" is supposed to mean.

The hotel was great! If you gueaxing to San Fransico, this hotel is located in the heart of town. Easy to get around. The rooms are clean!! and remodeled. It isn't a newer upscale Rizzie type! Only because the building is from around the turn of the century (1920) i think. The staff was very freindly, and helpful. Price was about right, for what you […] get. We will stay here again! The hotel seemed really nice from the website pictures but was not that impressive in person. The location is great. But that about the only thing great about it. The rooms are tiny. And the rooms smelled really bAd. they did a very bad job at renovating a very old building. I would not recommend this hotel and would never stay there again. Small room similar to NYC. Room was very clean and updated. Front desk staff very nice. We had a room facing the street, it was very loud, however they gave us our choice and we picked it, so be warned the outside rooms are loud.

I guess I should start by saying we prefer boutique hotels when we travel. Some reviews said the rooms were small. Ours was a deluxe king. It was spacious like most mini suites today. The hotel staff was incredible. Location is perfect next to the Powell street cable car. It is close to the tenderloin but you'll know when it's time to turn around! Close […] to almost everything. The hotel is in a good location, in the heart of Union Square with ritzy shops like Armani and Nordstrom, though there is a Burger King around the corner. Valet parking was a bit expensive, but is close to cable car, bus, and BART. Room was small but cozy, with a big screen tv, and free wireless internet. it is not super cheap, but cheaper than most hotels in this area, especially considering quality of service and how nice is the room, i think this hotel is worth of consideration. We got free upgrade to bigger room at the time of check-in and staff was very nice and helpful.

We were a little surprised at the size of the room. It felt a little claustophobic for my taste, all though they did a great job incorporating everything in the room, it still felt like we were staying in a closet. I we were to have stayed longer than the one day, I might have had to make other arrangments.
