My partner and I stayed at the hotel for two nights mid May 2011, we booked room only. We found the hotel reception staff very helpful and friendly and they spoke good English and were able to help with all our enquiries. This was an awesome property.. My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed this hotel. One of the cleanest and quietest with the largest rooms Ive had in Europe. It is very close to the metro for easy airport connections, lots of restaurants nearby along with a large grocery behind the hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I liked this hotel. The front desk people were very nice, btu the room was small for a four star hotel. Funny story: I tried to get room service at 11:05pm on Thursday night. when I called, the persopn told me that room service closed at 11:00pm, so I missed them. I tried again on Friday night at 10:30pm, thinking I could make my request before 11:00pm. […] On this call, the person said they were closed again. I asked wen they closed. They reply: 10:30pm. Why would they close at 10:30pm on a Friday andn 11:00pm on Thursday. Something here is awry. There is no hotel informatino in the rooms, so no answers were to be found there. The staff gave us numbers for reporting stolen credit cards and later, tips for a great restaurant in the area. Free internet in the lobby. We walked to many popular tourist areas. We'd choose the Versailles again if staying in Madrid.

The hotel is a no frills kind of place. My room was totally dark with one window facing the middle of the building. The internet would go in and out at all hours but when it was up it was extremely slow. If you're on a very tight budget you could probably do worse however i was very unimpressed with the offering of this place.

very convenient location. The etro was 30 seconds away. Very close to Gran Via . Plaza Santa Ana was a little bit further but still within walking distance (about 15 minute walk thru a nice neighborhood).

Very central hotel with attentive and helpful staff in a quiet neighbourhood!

Close to metro stop, but set back from main road, hotel and so nice and quiet. Many cafes and restaurants nearby. If you're happy to walk, about 25 minutes to get to Prado (which is worth endless visits).

Room was tiny, windows would not open without calling front desk and then only marginal. Mattress was exceptionally uncomfortable. We checked out early.

From Alonso Martinez Square you can get metro or walk to the old city, to the Prado Museum area and to the Castellana - practically to all the interesting places for a 3-day visit. The hotel is in a great position , very centrally and warm and comfort . The price was exactly for the hotel .

Great location! Metro station 1/2 block away, excellent restaurants also a few blocks. The staff always very nice and helpful. So a great hotel for short stay and I would recommend 100%.

At the end of the day, we'd be very happy to stay here again. Our preference is to stay in a smaller facility, but in a big city like Madrid staying in this hotel was comfortable and clean.

Was expecting more from a "four star" hotel. Seems like 4 stars in Spain is more like 3 stars elsewhere. Decor was very outdated. Price was good tho, so not a bad value. The hotel is under renovation and the walls are paper thin, so early in the morning and throughout the entire day, one could here the loud construction taking place just 2 doors down from my room. It felt more like 2-3 stars, and if it weren't so conveniently located, it would have been a complete disaster. Probably won't stay there again.

We spent seven nights at the Hotel Gran Versalles in mid November. The hotel is very close to the Alonso Martinez metro stop. In fact upon arrival to Madrid you can take the metro from the airport to the hotel (about 30 minutes). The hotel is on a quiet side street and it is a nice and comfortable place to stay. We chose this because of other good reviews. The hotel was good but not exceptional, representing good value, but was an excellent base for a Madrid visit, lying next to the Metro station and on the NE edge of the city cental zone.

The hotel location was not exactly in the centre, that saves you from the traffic of The Grand Vie but it is only a short walk to the key areas of Madrid. Helpful reception, with free Internet use and comfortable common areas. The room was one second floor rear at the side of the hotel and the corner room. The air-conditioning wasn't quite good enough to keep the room warm in the face of a freezing winters night outside. But it wasn't bad and we didn't freeze, but it could just have been warmer. This hotel is very central and right off of the metro. The staff was polite. The best thing about this hotel was that we stayed on the 5th floor and it was quiet. Previous hotels in Spain were very noisy with paper thin walls...this hotel was much better insulated and I actually got some rest without hearing people talking in the next room. The room was very quiet and very central to all the principal attractions. We could walk to all the museums. The Metro station was very close and we even used it to go to the airport. The service was very good, the room very clean and the clerks at the front desk were courteous and spoke English. There was free WIFi and the TV had CNN and BBC news stations. Good experience. We got in at 9:30am fromt he airport and they let us check in, so we were able to nap and shower before hitting the town. Metro stop right across the street, and hotel is about 2 stops from Sol and Grand Via. Airport was only a 20-minute metro ride away. Hotel was clean, and bed was insanely comfortable. It was very warm in the room (it was 66 degrees F outside in November, great time to visit Madrid), couldn't get the AC to work right, so we opened the window which was great. The neighborhood is on the quiet side, and there is a nice cafe across the street if you don't want to pay for the expensive breakfast. Free wifi too. Nice hotel. Clean. Easy to find and easy travel by subway to all sights we wanted to see.

It was a great stay at a good price, two minute walk to the alonzo martinez metro, walking distance or a few metro stops to everything. Only thing I missed was an ironing board. The staff was very friendly. Not really a four star place, but great for the price, not in peak season.

We arrived in Madrid late at night and stayed in this hotel overnight, on our way to the north of Spain. The staff was very friendly. We enjoyed the short stay - very nice hotel for reasonable price. We will certainly consider this hotel for our next trip to Madrid.

The hotel is situated close to the city center, it's very easy to get to all the must-see sights and attractions in Madrid, the nearest metro station (Alonso Martinez on line 10) is located at a few minutes walking distance from the hotel. The hotels was a typical european hotel. A little confusing to find at first before you remember street names are on buildings and not signs. Only 1 change over on the subway line from the airport. 15 min walk to Puerto del Sol. Had to walk up 1 flight of steps inorder to use elevator which wasn't a big deal for us. Handicap or elderly might have had […] issues. Tried to rebook for later in our trip but had no rooms available. Wireless internet was free. Circuit breakers are located behind doors and high up incase you try plugging in something that is only 120v. You need 120/240v appliances when in europe. Les mer

Unlike other reviewers, I would definitely classify this hotel as 4 stars. The staff was helpful, the rooms were clean and well maintained, and the amenities were excellent. There was nothing bad about this hotel. Some might find it's location mildly inconvenient because it is located on the very edge of the center of Madrid. Further, although the […] hotel is located right next to a Metro station, you have to change metro lines at least once to get to most places a tourist would want to go. One other thing I will say is that hotel room felt a bit dated. It was definitely a 4-star accomodation, but the decor and layout of the room I was in felt like I was in the 1970's. Les mer

I stayed in this hotel from 12 sep to 14 sep. I was happy with my stay. Subway is located right across the street from the hotel.Which only costs 2 euros. Puerto del Sol is like 15 min walk.Not bad at all. Location is not downtown but its very easy to get to all the spot by foot or train.

This hotel was so amazing. The people were so friendly and helpful. Its location was excellent. Not too close to all the bustle of downtown but close enough to walk to all the must-see sights. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone going to Madrid.

I would not classify this hotel as 4 stars. But for the price it was good. No complaints about the service. Main issues were the rooms, small and noisy. You could hear everything next door.

This hotel is located not really in the city centre, still need to take metro for 2 stops to arrive Gran Via. The metro station is very near to the Hotel, just cross the road there is a metro entrance. However, this nearest metro entrance will be closed at 10pm so it is not convenience for us when we come back to the hotel as we need to go to another […] metro exit and walk for 5 mins more to arrive the Hotel. The environment around the hotel is quiet and safe but not many choices of cafe and restaurants, so we still need to take metro to go to city centre for meal.The hotel room is very clean and neat. Excellent service, very nice at the front desk, very helpful. Rooms were clean. Location was right on the Metro. Two problems, slow internet in room, but it was free. The other, the air conditioning was working sometimes, almost never in our room.

Is a hotel veru well located near one of the most beautiful squares in Madrid, Alonso Martinez, and at walking distance from the center. The hotel is clean and spacious, people serviceable, the only problem as happens with all spanish hotels no matter theirs stars is the noise. A nice hotel in the center of Madrid. You can easily access the neighborhoods in El Centro on foot or by metro. It is just out of the old area, so access by car is easy, but not recommended because there is no parking. Make sure you get the walking/running map of Madrid for routes which take you to all the sights in El Centro.

Will stay at this hotel again. Conveniently located to older sections without the seedy feeling of hotels closer to Gran Via. Numerous buildings in neighborhood being renovated. Buy wine and olives for your room at a good grocery store 1blk west and 1/2 block north.

We had never stayed in Madrid before and feel that we were really lucky to find this hotel. The staff were very nice and helpful as we figured out how to navigate the city and gave good suggestions about what to see that was near major sites that we asked about. The restaurant was nice and their tapas bar was delightful. The Internet worked well in […] our room and it was free to guests. There were nice shops and restaurants in the area and it was very convenient to the underground trains. This hotel is not a chain and has been in business for many years. Good value for the price and so convenient to the Metro to get you everywhere.

It's old and needs updates.

The Hotel is situated across the road from a Metro station with easy access to all of the local attractions. The staff were efficient and very helpful. The rooms were very clean and comfortable wtih maid service everyday. All in all a great hotel and I would definitely stay there again.
