Terrific Hotel. Reasonably priced large rooms, comfortable, with great hotel staff. I'll stay there again.

I wouldn't recommend this place for the following reasons: - There's no AC - The rooms are falling apart. The faucets didn't work, they leaked, one of the faucet caps came off in my hand - The water pressure was terrible--hard to take a shower - I had a nonsmoking room, but the smoke odor coming in the vents in the bathroom made me nauseous every time […] I went into the bathroom Les mer

Wireless and cell phone signal is very week. No coffee maker in room. Simple breakfast, not continental breakfast.

Outstanding Service, staff extremely helpful. Close walk to Union Sqare ad easy to get connections to Fisherman's Wharf, Union Square. Room was wonderful andvery spacious. Nice wine social in the afternoon, pastries and fruit for breakfast. Would Definately reccommend.

Other rooms may be better maintained but ours needed work. It looked like they had skimped on maintenance. While it is located in a big city, we found to room to be noisy. We heard EVERYTHING that happened out on the street. Also, the breakfast was pretty skimpy--we supplemented to with purchases at a nearby convenience store. They had pastries, coffee […] or tea and fruit chunks, but no protein. Would providing youghurt have killed them? All that said, the price--especially for parking--was reasonable given the location. The hotel has been renovated and is very charming with it's architecture. The hotel staff were extremely friendly and helpful.

We just spent two nights at this hotel and loved its location and affordability for Union Square . We could walk to everything we wanted: Alcatraz Landing (that was a longer one), Ferry Building, China Town, Shopping. The breakfast in the morning was fine with pastries and fresh fruit. This hotel is very easy to access by public transit and makes using the Muni pass a chinch

The hotel was clean and the staff was very friendly. When they found out it was our honeymoon, they sent up complimentary champagne. They have a small continental breakfast in the morning and a wine and cheese hour in the afternoon which was nice. I spent four nights at the Beresford Arms Hotel in San Francisco in early May, '11. The room was very well appointed and the bathroom particularly well-equipped. High-speed internet connection is free. The buffet breakfast in simple, consisting of a wide variety of teas and coffees, a wide choice of cleanly cut fresh fruit and pastries - croissants, […] muffins, etc. The reception staff were always polite and very helpful. The most civilized aspect, however, is a complimentary wine and cheese buffet in the early evening! Excellent wine and a variety of cheeses. I loved the old-world charm of the hotel. Nice people and decent service but the rooms are horrible. They're old and everything from the tv to the beds, pillows and bathroom feels outdated. That should not be the case in 2011.

The hotel may be right for a young couple who is trying to save a buck or two. If you are travelling on business, this is definitely not the right place. Rooms are old, very old and smelly. Cozy hotel and lots of room in the room, kitchenette more than we hoped for - microwave, full fridge and stove, sink and table! Continental breakfast and afternoon wine and cheese were a definite plus! Staff at desk were kind and helpful at all times. Would stay here again in the future and reccommend it to others.

Nice hotel, great service. The place needs a full redecorate as it still has the 1960's Wallpaper and sinks/carpet etc which gives it a bit less clean look as you get into your room. I didn't spend much time there, just sleeping, so it was good for the price and location. There was no AC so if you go there in the summer, watch out!!!!

Just a friendly welcoming place with super staff, many smiles and great rooms. I was upgraded to a beautiful 1 bedroom suite for 2 more nights and it was hard to leave. It had everything and was gracious as well..The front desk so helpful and staff warm and friendly. I love this pace and hope to come back soon. The Beresford Arms is an older hotel but in very good condition and scrupulously clean. In fact the bathroom was the largest and nicest I've ever had outside of the Waldorf. It even had a whirlpool tub! Service is very friendly and helpful. It is conveniently 3 blocks from Union Square, only a block or two from all the big name hotels. I was given a […] free upgrade to a suite with kitchen. SF is having hard times, and even the the blocks just off Union Square have a lot of vacant storefronts; be prepared to see a lot of homeless people. A block past the Beresford things deteriorate quickly, but there is no trouble between it and Union Square, or uphill (which is Nob Hill). I would definitely stay there again. Les mer

This hotel is about 4 blocks from union square and cable cars... The hotel staff are great and very helpful..

Clean, good location, huge room, great value...

Fantastic hotel. The room I rented had a fridge, stove and microwave. Hotel employees were friendly and helpful. Ideal location, just a few minutes from everything. Just a heads up, if you visit Chinatown do not eat at the Chinatown restaurant.

it was a pleasant experience. The hotel is old but with a very good maintenance. very clean and well located. Rooms very confortable

Even though it is an old hotel but the customer service is excellent and is clean if they can change there blanket to liter color is going to be amazing. The location is awesome we enjoyed our staying there hopefully you too.

We had a GREAT stay here Highly recommend this hotel, Staff was very friendly and helpful, Happy hour at 430 pm was definitely a bonus, ample wine and snacks. Rooms were very comfy, clean, and bed were good. Breakfast is a lot of sweet things, ( donuts) but also croissants, muffins and fruit. Location was good, not too far from the cable car and great […] eateries nearby, across the street! and just blocks away. Firetrucks came by fairly frequently with sirens going but that's to be part of the city's hustle and bustle. rental car company down the street, Definitely we will come back here! Les mer

Booking this hotel last minute was a risk but after seeing all the good reviews we decided to try out this hotel. After staying there, we have to say it was definitely worth it for the money we paid. Parking was a breeze (we used valet) and the cost was very reasonable compared to surrounding hotels, breakfast was decent with fresh fruits and pastries, […] bed was comfy and having a small kitchen with jetted tub was awesome (kids loved that!), the only complaint I can think of was the noise I heard from the refrigerator at night (I was the only light sleeper in the family) but it only woke me up a few times. Overall, the room was spacious, clean, and served our needs. We would definltey stay here again. Les mer

If you need to stay downtown this is a great place. Extremely clean, great service and a high pressure shower that was awesome. The only downside was the neighborhood, which is the norm for most of downtown San Fran.

everything was great,except for two things; Expensive valet parking and very diffucult to adjust the water. it will eventionelly get hot, but it takes looong time and very differcult to adjust. never made the water ok with the bidet. we loved the little kitchen in the jazussi suite. big room. nice.

Super friendly staff. Between the continental breakfast and the wine, cheese and crackers in the late afternoon, we were very happy with the saving in the cost of food. Our room was very quiet, clean and relaxing. We had free wi-fi as well. The lobby was low stress and inviting. I attended a conference at a nearby hotel and Beresford Arms had more amenties […] than the other surround hotels at which the other conference attendees stayed. If you plan on staying at the hotel ask about shuttle service from/to the airport. The senery and lack of hassle is worth it. The front desk staff helped us get tickets for the tour bus and the airport shuttle. My conference is back in SF in two years and I am definitely going to stay here again. Les mer

I had a 3 day stay in San Francisco for a training at the Hilton in April of 2011 and stayed at the Beresford Arms Hotel. After pricing the Hilton and other preferred hotels of my travel agent it was much cheaper to stay here. Roughly $60 in savings per night over those hotels. Was it 4 star? No but for a travel trip it worked out just fine. The Bereford […] Arms has character and charm. I believe it was an old apartment building in its former years. Bathroom was very clean. Free Wifi. This is definately a perk in the bigger cities as most hotels charge upwards of $10-20 per day. What a crock. Some say it doesn't connect in the room but I had no problem and I was on the 7th floor. They offer fruit in the morning (oranges, melon and watermelon), danishes and coffee. Also they have free wine from 4:30-5:30. I never tried it but a few folks were there every night. Location was very good, I was 3 blocks away (about a 7 minute walk) to the Hilton Convention Center. About a 25-30 minute walk to the Westfield mall shopping district and about a 75 minute walk to the Fishermen's Warf. Next time I will take a cab!! But it was a good workout walking up and down the hills. Powell Street (featuring the cable cars) was only a couple blocks over. Plenty of restaurants nearby. My only gripe was the TV was not a flat panel. But to be honest I was rarely in the room. So for my limited viewing it was ok. If I were to travel to San Francisco again for either busines or pleasure I would definately stay at the Bereford Arms again. Les mer

The service was not very good. The lady at the front desk was the best, but other than that the bellman was terrible, very rude. We were locked out of our room the first night and was told there was nothing they could do until the morning. We attempted breaking in for 2 hours when a maintinence man finally ulocked the door. Good location, lovely lobby, nice rooms

the staff are all polite and friendly. (filipinos are excellent staff). the room is just enough for couple. the sheets are clean. the toilet flush should be repaired to work properly. there should be an exhaust device in the toilet. the windows should be tightly sealed to minimize the sounds of vehicles and the 911. the tv got no hbo or entertaining […] channels. but it is a very comfortable place to stay. all cons can be tolerated but if improved much better. Last minute reservation - great choice - hotel was a quaint return to eaarlier days with all the modern conveniences. Loved it. Highly recommend. Bit of history close to everything in San Francisco.

Breakfast was really bad. Food was delivered in a plastic big IKEA box. The food consisted of only sweet stuff like muffins. Rooms were ok/good, but easy to hear neighbours. Great location.

I feel like I found a gem in downtown SF...it is like a charming English hotel, a little worn, but still lovely. In fact, it seemed like many of the other guests were English, Australian, or others from various parts of the realm. The bathroom in the Jacuzzi Suite was fabulous! It rivals the Plaza in New York and 5-star hotels. The staff is competent […] and willing to help. I even caused a problem in the beginning because of my great fatique on arrival, and they were on my side. (Parking is expensive, and I didn't see a Town and Courtry minivan as an oversized vehicle...the hotel insisted that the parking company agree!) The location is downtown and I wouldn't let young ones wander. But any city is a ....city. We hiked up and over Nob Hill to Fisherman's Wharf, passed Grace Cathedral, and had wonderful views. Only one suggestion: perhaps some butter and jam with breakfast and some way to warm the pastries...with that, I'd be more than happy--delighted, to be precise!. Les mer

Only 3 blocks from Union Square, the location was convenient, but surprisingly quiet and lacking intimidating street people you would see just a couple blocks away. The hotel staff were friendly and very accommodating every time I asked for information about the city. I especially appreciated the jacuzzi bath after walking up and down SF streets all day. Cities are often unfriendly to visitors. Expectations are low for me when visiting most citites. What I found at this hotel was friendly, accomodating people who did all they could to answer questions, meet requests. The management of this hotel and their employees desires a 5 star rating. I would surely consider it again when in S.F.

I was in town on business. This was a nice hotel. The staff and rooms were great. The breakfast was various melon, various pastries (donuts, croissants, muffins) and coffee. Some juice would have been nice addition. Restaraunts close by for walking distance. Lefty O'douls highly recommended for budget and great food. Only downside, which is not hotels […] fault, it IS downtown so city noise can be an issue. Les mer

We were hoping someone would have been stationed out in front to give the car to for the valet service. Luckily there were two of us so one could go into the lobby to set things up while the other could wait with the car. We were simply nervous about leaving the car in a loading zone unattended.

Great rates given the time of year and the neighborhood. Centrally located with easy enough access to BART or muni stations. Staff was very friendly and responsive to my many requests.
