Britannia Adelphi Hotel City Centre - Liverpool

A classic hotel, central and capable of excellent value. My stay was good, friendly staff and comfy room.

The hotel is in a perfect location right by the lime street train station and plenty of shops/restaurants/pubs. The front desk staff were very helpful and friendly. However the room wasn't too fancy. And they put me in a room next to the elevator, so the sounds from the lift were constantly heard. Be aware of that when they assign your room. Hotel where very big and very nice, the staff very kindly and helpful. The location was in the middle of the city, 5 min walk to Liamstreet station.

Arriving at the Adelphi I was served by great friendly staff who were very helpful and friendly (especially when i asked for directions), The room was very basic and very pleasant, the only negative aspect about the room was the tv is small and isnt visible when lying down in bed.

Great location! Close to liverpool 1 and main shops. Even closer to liverpool lime street train station! Quality of the rooms are great, makes you feel like you are staying in a stately home. Only criticism is the lack of proper showers. Amazing big bath though! Stayed in the travel lodge the night after, nowhere near as good for around the same price! […] Book it! Les mer

The Adelphi is located in a great position in Liverpool city centre close to everything. Unfortunately the rooms are a little dated and the hotel generally needs modernising. The rates are good though.

Grand old hotel. Everything was pretty old fashioned (in a nice way) - big high ceilings in the room, old fashioned fixtures and fittings, a fireplace in the room, classy decor, massive bathroom (albeit a bit cold and plain) big wide hallways, impressive lounge/hall area, etc etc. Staff were nice - luckily I'm English so could understand the Scouse […] accents - my American wife on the other hand was left a bit confused by some of the staff's accents ;) Only shortcoming was that perhaps there was a patch of flakey paint on one of the cupboard doors and on the bathroom ceiling, but it wasn't a big deal to me. We only really chose this place because we booked it at short notice, and it still had rooms available (and cheap ones at that). All in all though, I'm glad we picked it - a far more characterful stay than staying at an Ibis/Holiday Inn/Travel Lodge type place. Les mer

The Adelphi Hotel is the perfect hotel to stay and visit Liverpool. It is so central. The staff are delightful and helpful and I would stay aain. This was my second stay

We stayed for one night in this hotel, whis was very convenience for us as we had a compestition over the weekend in Echo Arena. I wouldn't recommend the hotel to anyone who stay for the same reason. During the night there was a wedding in the hotel, the music for extremely loud, we could not sleep until 1.30am, and we have to wake up by 6am for the […] competation. The Adelphi is synonomous with Liverpool, and has to be seen to be believed, gently faded luxuery. Ideal position, Pub next door,also a work of art, and 5mins away The Philharmonic, breathtaking with the only grade1 Gents in England. I will certainly be back.

This hotel was very good! Nice big rooms and in the perfect location right by liverpool lime street station. The hotel is very grand and a fun experience for a few days stay :)

Big problems with the lifts at this hotel! I'm not sure if it's just the volume of traffic or mechanical problems, but my daughter and I had to walk the five flights of stairs with our luggage to our room, and also walk down the five flights the following day. An inconvenience for us, but a massive problem for the elderly people I saw struggling to […] do the same. No one on hand to help. I was really worried about the couple I saw, clearly the elderly gentleman was struggling with their case. Having got my own luggage to carry I could only offer to get down stairs and see if someone could go and help him - I overheard one comment from a member of staff "there are no problems people are just impatient". However we queued for around twenty minutes, and the lifts were just going up and down between the upper floors. Whatever the reason, clearly there is a problem at checkout time in the mornings which needs addressing. And help needs to be on hand for the older guests. I believe this hotel has around 7 floors so an operational lift is a necessity. Les mer

well when i book online i see many good rooms but when i get there the room they had given me, i see the room was very small which i dont like it was like a box room you enter the room and the room finished there. what the use of paying lots and you got a small box. so i dont recommend this hotel

A very warm welcome when we arrived. We were early so couldn't check in but were immediately offered the facility to leave our bag. The room was light, airy and clean. Hotel only a 5 minute walk from Lime Street station, and in a good location to get around the city. Would definitely stay here again.

I really love this old Edwardian hotel, with the beautiful shandaliers and main lounge. The modern electronic door opening that I really had no problem with unlike other hotels. The breakfast is out this world superb especially with whole mushrooms. It is ideal for all the venues used by Beatle Week. The hotel staff were very friendly and very helpful. The decor is amazing and is in itself worth visiting just to see this. It is airy and spacious with the largest rooms I have ever seen. The hotel is warm and comfortable. The room was spotless and is a credit to the cleaning staff. The rooms contain everything a guest requires. Very large hotel in the heart of Liverpool! We stayed as we got a great deal on hotels.com. Would stay again.

Faded but fascinating hotel with an interesting history. Spacious rooms have amazing wood panelling and concealed doors. Others have attractive marble fireplaces and art deco furniture. Bathrooms need updating. Biggest drawback is the lack of lifts - and once you do manage to get into one you can then spend ages going up and down as the lifts seem to […] have minds of their own. What a dreary tired hotel with dreary unwelcoming staff ; will never return

Very basic standards experienced. No attempt was made to assist me with my baggage or to help me find my room by the shortist route from reception. The carpet in the room was very dusty and there was a pair of socks on the floor. The bathroom wash basin had the mesh guard on the plughole missing and I almost lost my ring in it. There was a lack of notices […] giving directions from my room to reception and I found myself wandering around trying to find my way out. The teamaking facilities in the room were very welcome. Stayed there for two nighs unfortunately it was extremely noisey as they had weddings and a stag on the same night, the noise was unbearable and couldn't get to sleep till 3am. Was told by Reception that this is a regular occurrence every weekend as it is a popular hotel with stags.... Stayed there with my young son who slept through most of it. This is a hotel with real character, although not as grand as in years gone by. It still has a lot of the old fixture and fittings. When I stayed some years ago it was looking really shabby (but that was part of its charm - you pass the ghosts of times gone pat on the stairs and along the many corridors, and imagine all people dancing in the grand ballroom) […] I was only booked in for one night this trip- the room was bright, clean and comfortable with a great view of the cathedral. I stayed in Britannia for a weekend, it was a good location, we were there for a Liverpool match so it was quite handy as there was a taxi rank outside and it is in the city center so it is good for going out in the city and shopping. The hotel itself looks good until you have a closer look, the carpets throughout were filthy, the lifts only worked […] sometimes so you could be waiting 20 mins for it. The room again was not very clean, floor was filthy, cobwebs on walls, there was paint coming off the walls in the bathroom and there was a horrific smell out of the drawers in the dresser. We also found the room very strange because there was a door to the room next door in our room (not just an adjoining room, it had the room number on it). Our room was also quite noisy as there was a disco bar at the back of the hotel. If you are just looking for a place to lay your head and you are not worried about hygiene, noise or comfort its perfect! Les mer

The Britannia Adelphi in Liverpool--great location and accommodating staff.

We loved the hotel and the bedroom was ok for the time they had to get it ready for us. The bedroom didn't have a window what we could open for fresh air. The room was a bit warm. We did enjoy our stay and will be staying at the Adelphi when we visit Liverpool again.

The best thing about the hotel was its convenient location to the city center of Liverpool. It's walking distance from the Lime Street Train Station and other downtown conveniences including restaurants and shops. The hotel is an older building with rattling pipes and plumbing but our room was spacious and clean. The hotel staff at check in and check […] out were not friendly. Overall, however, if I ever visit Liverpool again, I would stay at the hotel. Les mer

good location but hotel is in need of a make over...quite out dated!!

When we arrived at the hotel all was fine, upon checking in we were only allowed 1 room key which was abit annoying at times, we got to our room and it was fine, but the tv didn't work, after an hour of complaining we were moved to the 5th floor, a much nicer room with a shower!! At this hotel you get what you pay for, don't expect five star treatment […] although the staff are very nice. The location is ideal for everything and I would stay there again, if I want the Four Seasons I'll pay for the Four Seasons. Les mer

Great location for the hotel, its in the centre of the city in close proximity to everything but it's in the dark ages with decor etc. We booked in on a hen night and requested 3 triple rooms when booking. Got to hotel, checked in and were allocated 3 double rooms. Asked if we could get the rooms we booked and we were told it was a special request they […] couldn't meet. Several persons were complaining while we were at reception. Nothing appeared to meet anyones needs. Allocations were made to family rooms i.e. sharing bathrooms, to people who didn't know each other. You have to go to reception to get an ironing board and iron and pay a deposit of £10 - they don't even bring them to your room. It was a long walk to the room with these items! It's the little simple things that matter when you stay in a hotel. Great location but won't be looking to stay there again in a hurry. Les mer

Cheap, confortable and good location in the City Centre of Liverpool

The room had no window to the outside. There was a window at the end of the room, which as we found out overlooked a staff staircase. We discovered this while sitting in our underwear,we looked up to see a male staff member with his face pressed firmly against the window,kept curtains closed after that. The beds,we could feel the wooden frame of the […] base through the already uncomfortable materess. The room was clostrophbic and airless, the tiny tv had a really bad wavey and snowey picture,and the furniture must have come out of a pyramid builders spare room. over all not good, I'v had worse but not at the price. On arrival at the hotel which is conveniently located by the railway, we were disappointed to find that we had been allocated the wrong room! We had to wait around before another room was sorted. There were lots of drunk people hanging about the foyer who were very loud and I realised that this may not have been a good choice in hotel. We were further […] disappointed to find that we were unable to use the swimming pool on the Sunday morning as it was not open. I believe they open relatively late which defeated the point of getting up early for a swim before breakfast! To add to this I would mention the decor of the hotel could do with some updating. I just stayed here for one night after watching the football. The hotel is very reasonably priced. After reading the other reviews I didn't know what to expect but was pleasantly surprised. This hotel is exactly as expected. It used to be fabulous although is now a little tired. That is not a critisism - it is what it is. The building is beautiful, the location is excellent, the service is okay and the beer - the beer is only £1.50 a pint before 8pm. Hurrah. There is always something new to see while you go at the Adelphi - it's so big, and rooms can be very different from one to another. It's an exciting old luxiourious glory which is not a luxury hotel any more in the present way of considering it, but with nice rooms, wifi available free on the ground floor, and a large breakfast buffet.
