EVERYThing was worn out INCLUDING THE ELEVATOR. THAt was scary. The lamps were stained as well as the box spring and mattress, The only positive was we were woke up by sea gulls every morning at day light. The front desk and restaurant staff were very friendly and helpful and we liked the included buffet breakfast and spacious room, but the decor and furnishings are extremely worn and dated. Overall this hotel is a good value, but it was a little spooky when close to empty!

Although the hotel is extremely well-placed, the facility is very dilapidated: everything in the room was frayed and grubby, the shower vacillated between freezing and scalding, the wall-to-wall carpet in the hall was wrinkled enough to trip on, and the elevator was alarmingly rickety. The staff was friendly, but somewhat unprofessional and incompetent: […] when our key cards failed to work on our second night, rather than fixing the problem, we were let into our room and told they could let us in again if we went out, and we had to have a conversation through the door with housekeeping about not needing maid service, even though the "do not disturb" sign was out. The staff was immensely helpful, swift, and friendly. Our room was quiet and clean, though the bath/shower is ready for an update/renovation. The mattresses were a little bit hard for my liking, but it wasn't a dealbreaker. Our room had a fantastic view of the lake, and we never had to move the car. Saw a show, had dinner, went shopping - all on foot! […] Great neighbourhood. The complimentary breakfast was more complete than I'd expected at this price, and was well made without being too unhealthy. We almost drove 20mi to a higher star Best Western for the same money, I'm glad we didn't. Les mer

If you want something that is right in the middle of downtown Olympia, this is a good choice. Make sure you ask for a room that overlooks the lake.

What I mean by old is everything is old. My largest complaint would be the water. The showers would scald and then freeze you several times during your shower. It was completely random which made it unavoidable. The complimentary breakfast wasn't staffed well. We had to ask for the coffee urns to be refilled everyday (3 mornings). We needed to ask for […] food items to be cooked for the buffet every morning. The first morning the staff was dancing in the lobby and the front desk staff had to ask them to please go to work and check the dining room. No coffee, eggs, bacon, or potatos that time. Only sausage was present. The next mornibg the front desk staff told us the cook was busy washing dishes, but would cook again soon. The juice and milk were very good and cold. It was always plentiful. The cereal bar was clean and well stocked. The toaster items were good and the toaster was fast. Les mer

Hotel looks old, but the room is very comfortable. Excellent cooking for the breakfast. All staff are extremely helpful and friendly. Housekeeping lady is very warm and helpful. Laundry services and dryer available which help to save so much on laundry/dry cleaning. I checked out one day earlier as I need to go to Seattle. They answer with a big smile […] and I got back my money. It is amazing how customer friendly they are. Manager keep asking for feedback and on our needs.Free parking. Nice location, very convenient to downtown shopping and restaurants. Hotel has seen better days and could definitely use a refresh of carpet, paint, etc. Couldn't get the internet service to work, and there was a constant machinery (HVAC?) noise that made it very difficult to sleep. Won't be staying here again.

...and that's about the best I can say. Very nice staff; the front desk employees I interacted with were knowledgeable and helpful. I could get from my room to my legislators with a nice 10 minute walk, and the view of the OSPI building was pretty cool. For modern amenities, though, we're severely lacking. The wireless was a joke, and the hard-wire […] internet they offer in the room was right next to the bed and had a short cord, making it a pain in the ascot to get anything done. There are only two elevators serving this 8 story hotel, and wait times were pretty awful, especially in the morning when people were looking to go and do what they needed to do. The price was right, at least, and I don't feel like they took me--it just could be so much more. Les mer

While the staff was exceptionally nice, we found the room was not quite up to par, in terms of the cleanliness of it. While getting into the shower I found hair on the edge of the tub and on the wall, also on the back of the door. Trying to find a convenient wall outlet was difficult as many of them were in use, I had to trail the cord for my computer […] across the room, which wasn't really safe for tripping, also while looking for the outlets I found a plastic egg and wrapping paper behind the TV. That and the hair in the bathroom made me question how well the room was really cleaned. Les mer

My boyfriend and I spend time at the Governor several times each year. Staff are always friendly and we typically get the same room when requested. It is a lovely hotel which is so close to everything, we walk wherever we go! Great place, great location, great breakfast bar, great staff, what's not to love?! We love the Gov!

All of the staff, especially Kris, was exceptional. They all went the extra mile to help us enjoy our stay while we did our advocacy work. Kris gave us the "local's" perspective on where to go and supported it with maps and operational hours. He absolutely deserves a raise ~ GREAT customer service! There was no hot water for a bath and the elevators were not working so we had to take the stairs. Also the rooms were very warm with no way to change the heat so had to leave the window open.

We needed a cheap room and that's what we got. It was clean but the balcony door wouldn't close so it was perpetually cold in the room. Breakfast was hot, coffee lousy food OK. Staff nice otherwise OK.

The Governor hotel is passably comfortable and clean, breakfast digestible, slightly better than a Motel 6, only with views. Fine for the price, very central in its location. The only issue was internet access, or lack of it. The wifi signal was dysfunctionally inconstant throughout the hotel, even in the main downstairs communication center where a […] wifi box was located. When I mentioned this to the staff they told me to use the ethernet box in my room, of which there was none. I was promised that a box would be installed while I was out for the day, but this promise did not go fulfilled. Internet access was not a dealbreaker for me on this particular visit, but if that is important to you, you will find yourself trekking to cafes in the rain. Les mer

First impression of the hotel was bad, because on entering the back door I was greeted by a rather musty odor. Went to the front desk and was greeted by a friendly desk clerk, who was very helpful and pleasant. We went to our room, which was a nice size, and fortunately didn't smell. However, the windows were dirty, there was a hole in one of the mattresses, […] and there was hair that had been painted over on the bathroom ceiling. We decided to cancel our 2nd nites stay there and move to a different location. When we talked to the clerk, he was very understanding and helpful, and made it easy. The TV in the room didn't have much of a selection. The complimentary breakfast in the morning was very good, and there was lots to eat and drink, and the woman keeping things moving was very nice. Perhaps, we got a room that was poorly maintained, but the furniture and bath tub and wash basin were in terrible condition. In particular, a table was beaten up and it would not be sold even at a junk store. There was no instruction on TV, no guide. It was quiet facing the lake. That was the best part of the hotel.

Low rates don't necessarily have to mean low quality, but in this case, they do. The hotel (especially the elevators) had a funny smell. The bathroom had mold growing on the ceiling. The blanket had cigarette burns in it. The internet cord is on the night stand, rather than the desk, and is only about 2.5 feet long. The remote control didn't work. The […] location was convenient and the staff were friendly enough, but aside from that, not much else was good about this hotel. I wouldn't recommend this hotel, and I won't be staying there again. The Governor is a bit past its prime, but you can't beat the location. There are numerous shops and restaurants within blocks, and the lovely Capitol Lake is just blocks away (and our room had a nice view of it). Just a couple blocks farther is Olympia's lovely inlet off Puget Sound. The staff were exceedingly nice and helpful. There was an electrical […] smell in our room, and they offered to change our room. We opened the slider to air out the room and the problem was resolved. The included hot breakfast buffet was a nice bonus and included ample options. The coffee was nothing to write home about, so a trip to Batdorf and Bronson's, a block away, was in order. The main drawback of the location is that it can be a bit noisy. We heard noise from the park on the opposite side of the building as well as from the swimming pool below. These noises died down before nightfall. Light sleepers should bring earplugs, however, as the numerous local seagulls chattered round the clock. Les mer

The staff is excellent and very helpful. It is an old hotel and definitely needs to be updated in the rooms. Carpet in halls and room needs replacing badly. Mattress not the most comfortable. Value for the dollar not the best.

The lady at the front desk was very nice. The breakfast was very good, too. Overall we had a wonderful stay at this hotel. Good for the price!

This place is a DUMP!!! Anytime the most enduring memory of a place is how all the people complained about the free breakfast buffet, well, that gives you an idea. I

Living off past grandeur, it is unfortunate they have done very little to upgrade the conveniences. The shower water went from too hot to luke warm, the beds were okay, and the view of the roof was extraordinary with the lake in the background. Parking was not very secure.

Although central location - try not to stay here! Very dated, old sticky carpets, smells of smoke and scanky outside pool. Try the Phoenix Inn just up the road..

The people that run and work at the Governor Hotel are nice and are ready to help you at the Hotel, They are willing to inform you about the surrouding area.

The room was sum what clean. The handle to the slider was missing a screw. I will not stay there again.

Our room was changed due to the lock malfunctioning. But, the new room was just fine. Lovely view, a bit worn and very warm, but clean. We just opened the sliding glass door for air. Staff was very friendly and attentive, breakfast buffet was simple, but good. Bed was comfortable and the shower/bath was fine, the towels are nice and fluffy. The Governor Hotel in Olympia, Washington, is a great location if you're looking for a base from which to hoof it around downtown Olympia. The hotel is an easy find just off the interstate. The restaurants and pubs are well within walking distance, there are no hills to contend with, and the rooms are comfortable with views of a lake or mountains (if […] the sky is clear). The room needed some minor upgrading (bathtub and surround), but overall was in good repair. I discovered a gem. Les mer

The hotel is a nice older hotel close to the state capitol complex and some lovely restaurants. The surrounding neighborhood is noisy, even on the 8th floor. I had an excellent view and the room was well maintained, with the exception of toilet paper.
