RiverPlace, a Kimpton Hotel - Portland

My daughter and I participated in the Rose Festival Dragon Boat races and decided to make a mini-vacation of the event by spending a night at the Riverplace. The Riverplace is situated right on the Willamette River and near several very good restaurants. It also has a fine restaurant in the lobby with wonderful river views, and perfect viewing of the […] dragon boat races. The newly decorated rooms had a very 'heavy' feeling - all the furniture was massive and dark. The 'courtyard view' was a view of the windows in the riverside tower - very disappointing. We had to keep our curtains closed to maintain any privacy since the other windows were only about 10 feet away. Although the hotel was convenient to our event and the Waterfront, there are definitely better values and hotels in the area. I really wanted to love this hotel, but you don't get much for the price. Great location by the river, lots of restaurants to eat, places to walk, safe. The hotel feels new, beds are so comfy and they have windows that OPEN! Fresh air is great. Minor point - the housekeeping lady ignored that "do not disturb" sign.

Situated in a nice spot on the water right in the city, yet has a out-of-city feel. Rooms are superb, with a new style retro look. HUGE bathrooms, the biggest I have seen in a hotel. Ample restaurants around the area for a good meal. Only issue during our stay was that it took 15mins waiting around the front for a bell boy to assist with our parking. […] Also, the concierge, you can never get hold of, either by phone or in person. When waiting for a concierge or a bell boy, the other staff at the reception area see you standing around obviously for a long time yet still never help to offer assistance. For the big price we paid, I would not return here again, purely because of the lack of customer service when it is clearly needed. Les mer

I stayed at the RiverPlace recently for a conference at the World Trade Center which was walking distance. I really enjoyed this hotel. The rooms were fantastic; clean, well appointed and beautiful. I asked for a restuarant recommendation for the first night, and the front desk suggested Veritable Quandary, a Portland mainstay, which is two blocks away, […] and it was superb. I had somehow missed it in my research. I enjoyed the wine tasting that is hosted each evening and met some fellow travelers who were delightful. Also, the view from the porch is spectacular this time of year, with the Canadian geese (and their hatchlings) which are camped there before migrating further. A nice touch is you can "borrow" a bike from the lobby and use along the river's bike path. I wish I'd had time to do that. Overall, a really excellent hotel. Les mer

The hotel is quite pretty. And the location is awesome. Walking out from the restaurant onto the path and overlooking the water is beautiful. I will definitely stay again.

Beautiful hotel right on the Willamette river. Able to walk to downtown Portland and the light rail station! Excellent Wifi in rooms - would love it if they were a B&B and the couch was larger and more comfortable in the suites.

Everything was great . But the cab service they use was unacceptable. Driver thought we were the typical tourist, so they drove us out of the way from where we were going. When we mentioned it to them, his answer to us was. What are you counting the blocks. But the hotel was very nice about it when we mentioned it to them..

The front desk staff and valet staff were very friendly and went out of their way to help us. The rooms are comfortable as are the beds. We did not have any complaints, and had a wonderful stay. The location is excellent for walking along the river and across to the OMSI.

Great getaway. In downtown close to everything but also has the parklike setting, marina and walk along the river. Really nice, knowledgable staff as well.

My wife and I stayed 2 nights for our anniversary, the staff were very friendly and helpful. Everything was great, and they did little special things for us to make us feel welcome - complimentary champagne in our room, complimentary vallet parking -- just went above and beyond what they had to do to make our trip special. The room was clean, everything […] smelled good, room service was prompt and friendly, the food was excellent. Vallet service was great, the attenants had our vehicle out in just minutes everytime we requested it, the wine tasting and cookies were delicious. Overall I give this place 5 stars. Les mer

The location of this hotel was excellent. We did a lot of walking and it felt like everything we wanted to do and see was convenient. The staff is very friendly. My only complaint is that we were charged $31 a day for valet parking. There was no sign outside that said there would be a charge, no one at the desk said anything, and neither did the drivers. […] We would not have gotten a car at all had we known this. Additionally, we never waited for less than 5 minutes for someone to even be available to go get our car. We waited for 30 minutes once which was displeasing at best. The restaurant that is attached to the hotel is wonderful! Amazing food and excellent service. Get anything on the menu that includes bacon. Their bacon is cooked to perfection and delicious. Overall it is an excellent hotel and I would recommend it. I would even stay there again if I find myself in Portland but I wouldn't rent/bring a car unless I really had to go any major distance. Cabs would have cost us less than the rental car + valet fees. Les mer

Great place overall, wonderful service all around and very nice rooms with an obviously great location. Our only complaint was the bed. It was very hard and very uncomfortable, making it difficult to sleep well for either my wife or I. Everything else was very nice if a bit steep in price.

Staff were most gracious and accommodating. We appreciated the overall ambiance of the hotel, the setting with a wonderful view of the Willamette River, and the convenience to the waterfront and downtown Portland.

This hotel has superior service and great amenities. The hotel staff is extremely polite and helpful. The rooms are clean and spacious. Staying at this hotel is like staying at a resort in the city, and the staff makes you feel like you are on vacation instead of a business trip. We loved everything except 2 items. The sheets did not appear to pressed when laundered.....also the tv channels....... No major channels, ie no ABC,, CBS, NBC, CNN etc...... Only Fox News...... They stated they are in transition changing tv provider...... Not good on major holiday weekend.... I was shocked sheets not pressed..... I look forward to […] pristine beds........ Recently my wife and I decided to pop off to Portland for a long weekend of sightseeing and relaxation. Riverplace is an amazing hotel, not so much because of the hotel – which is very nice, but more for the people. We were amazed that the staff went so far out of their way to make us comfortable and even anticipated our wants before we even had them. […] I have stayed at many top hotels in my life, and I can honestly say the service at Riverplace was the best I have ever had. Everything was done with a smile and they really seem to want to help any way they can. As for the actual structure, it is clean and very nicely furnished with tasteful yet contemporary furniture and art. Our bed was amazingly comfortable. My wife actually went to the front desk to ask about the brand of mattress topper they have! They have a restaurant called “3Degrees” which serves wonderful food and drinks. No need to leave the hotel for food if you don’t want to. The location is close to the trolley and the river walk. It’s right on the water, so evening strolls around the neighborhood are very easy to do. In summation, I can’t say enough good things about this hotel. We would definitely go back! The only dawback I could find is that valet parking is $31 per night. Les mer

The Kimpton was a fine place to stay for our trip. The welcome cookies and wine, and the lounge area all make for an inviting place to relax. It is a bit out of the central area for shopping and tourist sites, but since we are walkers, we were not deterred. There is public transportation nearby, and taxis if you call them. My one issue was that a wedding […] party took over the restaurant for one of our nights; it would have been nice to know this ahead of time, as we had planned to eat there. The bar area serves meals as well, but it was very noisy and would not have been our choice had we known to plan in advance. I will say that the food in the bar was fine, as it turned out. Great location on the river and close to downtown, Lobby and porches were small, but comfortable. Rooms too were small, but pleasant enough. Somehow did not seem special enough for price paid.

I didn't feel my room was worth the price paid. It was small with mediocre furnishing. The hotel was out of the way. Although the staff and services seemed good, I would not recommend this to my friends.

Great hotel! Great Staff. Right on walking/running path. Easy access to downtown and light rail. Huge park out in front of hotel. 15 minute walk from Light rail drop off. Great way to get from the air port to the hotel.

Staff was incredible, amenities were plentiful. Food in restaurant was top notch. Hotel room was large, bed was the best I have ever slept in ! Will be buying some of the pillows they use on their beds...best ever. location right on the river...they loan you bikes for free.

First trip to Portland, and I understand the high 70s and blue skies aren't exactly 12 months a year there ... on a lovely summer evening, just a killer location, beautiful view of the river, nice park, good people watching. Rooms was lovely, staff incredibly friendly.

$36 for parking. Overnight. Really? $20 for one small (10-12 oz.) draft beer and a single glass of chardonnay. Really? Very good staff. Nice place but very proud of simple services.

Portland is a great place for a couple to escape to, and the Riverplace just adds that much more charm and magic to the visit. I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a getaway.

What a great way to celebrate a birthday or any special occasion. The staff was amazing, the valet parking, even though expensive, was worth it. we would return again. The only concern we had was that the queen size beds were rather small, but the staff changed our room without a problem. Great stay. My wife's birthday and they provided a free gift of wine and chocolates for her in the room. The complimentary wine hour in the evening for all guests in the sunny court yard was great. Hotel staff very helpful with everything.

Our 5 day stay was wonderful. When we first arrived and checked in the room we got was much smaller than the pictures on line appeared to be. There was not even enough room for our suitcases. As we walked down to talk to the front desk we noticed a room nearby being cleaned we peeked in to view and that was more of what we thought were getting? Thahousekeeper […] was very pleasant and showed us around and as wew ere talking, Deborah, the supervisor of house keeping came in. She listen to us and called the front desk...when all was said in done.. They upgraded us at no extra cost and after we were settled in our new room Deborah brought up a card, bottle of wine a some delicious chocolates. The remainder of the stay followed suit. The staff is wonderful!!!! The location allowed for us to walk to everything went. The river front always had something going on. And of course the hotel free happy hour sangria was delish. The location of the hotel on the water was perfect right next to a bike/running trail and a nice view of the river. It was nice to be in a quieter area but still so close to downtown.
