The room was big. Had a lounge-area. The room was clean. Breakfast was coffee, juice and muffins. Not what europeans would call a continental breakfast. 15 min drive to downtown Portland. Nice place to stay on a tight budget.

"Great Kimpton style as usual"
Nice addition to downtown Portland. Stylilsh and clean! Close to MAX and easy coommute to the airport.
The bathroom is in dire need of clorox- the sink, toilet& tub were moldy and poorly cleaned. The 1st room we were escorted to reeked of cat urine. They had placed us in an aminal friendly room. It may be animal friendly but was not human friendly. Luckily they had another animal free room available.

We were upgraded to a beautiful suite when they learned it was my 40th birthday. It was amazing and made the whole night special for us. The staff was friendly and treated us very well. My sisters and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Monaco! The location was great - walking distance to Pioneer Square, great shopping, restaurants and coffee shops - and the Portland City free transportion was convenient & amazing. The staff at the Hotel were terrific, especially the doormen! The wine tasting at 5:00 p.m. every night in the […] Lobby was great fun and the attached restaurant "Red Star" was reasonable & delicious. Our room was a suite, which was big and very comfortable for the 3 of us and you never heard anyone else on the floor - very quiet. Portland is a beautiful small city - clean, friendly and fun. Had a great time and so glad we chose Hotel Monaco for our stay. Les mer
"Monaco is in a great spot"
For our first visit to Portland, we wanted a hotel that was centrally located and reasonably comfortable. The Monaco did not disappoint. We were very pleased with how easy it was to find. The location was certainly as good as expected, being very central to everything we wanted to do and a very short walk to the free rail system throughout downtown. […] Even when leaving the hotel to come home, access to the Interstate was very easy. The rooms are a little tired and could use a face lift., but were quite comfortable and spacious. We stayed on the fourth floor, which we learned was the pet floor. If you don't want to stay in a room that has had pets in it, make sure you request a hypo-allergenic room. Heating controls are non functional and controlled by the engineering department. A conversation with the front desk had things quickly set to our liking. We will most likely stay here again on our next visit to Portland. Les mer

Very nice hotel. The hotel has been remodeled, but still has elements that could possibly use a bit more touch up cosmetically. The service here is very good and the amenities are nice. I would definitely recommend others to stay here. It's in a great location, in downtown Portland. You'll enjoy your stay here.

I love Kimpton Hotels, they have fun styling and lots of "creature comfort" extras. Being pet friendly, they are a favorite for stays when the pup comes along. The only complaint I had was in the cleaning of our room. We checked in late, so we just dealt with it. Not the attention to detail I have seen during other stays. Enjoyend our stay. Rooms were clean, service was good. Location was great. But the room was the smallest room we have ever stayed in. We have a one year old and there really wasn't much room to put his play pen to sleep. Very crowded for the three of us. For the price of the room, we expected something much roomier. We visit Portland a lot and try to stay in a different hotel every visit to find the best of the best. We have stayed in quite a few so far and overall Hotel Monaco was a fantastic hotel. It has a funky botique feel to it which is unusual but fun. The wine hour was fantastic and the lounge area was beautiful and sociable. The rooms are slightly on the […] small side, but much better than the size of the rooms in other nearby comparable hotels (like Hotel Modera or Hotel Lucia). I think the showers can be updated, though. They were under-whelming and fairly prosaic for a hotel of this rating. The hotel itself is in a fantastic location, you couldn't ask for better. We would definitely stay there again. Just two complaints (other than the shower): On the day we were to check out, we had just finished breakfast and were returning to our room at about 9am to finish packing. A housekeeper cleaning the room next to ours asked what time we were leaving so she could clean the room. Very tacky and rude. I wouldn't accept this from a Holiday Inn let alone a four diamond hotel. But she was the only one we did not reciecve good service from, so I'm willing to write her off as an exception to the rule for this hotel. Second (and very minor), we stayed in a standard room, the bed was nice and long, but rather narrow. Didn't bother us much, but I did notice it. But overall a great hotel, we will be very likely to stay here again! Les mer

I loved the Hotel Monaco. The staff is exceptional and provided super friendly, warm service without seeming stuffy or too formal. Shout-out to the valets, who were extremely helpful and made me feel welcome each time I left and returned to the hotel. The lobby lounge is beautifully decorated, with a cozy fireplace, and the nightly happy hour was a […] nice touch. Timmy the golden retriever was a wonderful hotel ambassador! The decor of the hotel was stylish and funky without trying too hard. My suite was huge! I also stayed at The Nines during my trip to Portland, which was beautiful and luxurious, but I slightly preferred the Monaco for its warmth and character. The Nines had an edge in its restaurants and location (Monaco location is convenient, but on kind of a quiet and blah-looking block) but the Monaco will be my top choice when returning to Portland. We had a great time! the staff, dog and facilities were all top of the line! It was absolutely the best stay we've ever had in any hotel ever. And we've been to a whole bunch of hotels from hawaii to florida to china. The best part was the hotel dog that greets you! Very close to some awesome taco trucks too. My family was there a few days between Christmas & new year. We have fun traveling during the holidays but something seems to be missing by not being home with a tree and a fireplace. The hotel was a great balance of funky yet elegant. There was so much life in the patterns, textures and colors of the hotel and my room, I literally shut myself in my room for 3 days and just enjoyed harmony of it all. Our son who travels in business recommended any kimpton Hotel. A wonderful place right in the heart of downtown close to the very modern efficient light rail lines and walking distance to great food and shopping. Would definitely stay again especially at hotel.com rate.

"Staff great but room smelled"
Overall, the hotel was great and the staff was wonderful but my room smelled of dog. I am fine with hotels accepting pets but I think perhaps there should be designated rooms for pets only. I would have chosen a non-pet room.

Take MAX from the airport and then walk five minutes to the hotel. The doormen, the front desk staff, and the staff in general were friendly and ensured that my stay was a pleasure. I loved being able to walk to all of the restaurants, clubs, Powell book store, and the theater. Great location.
