Trengte èn natt i forbindelse med å skulle reise på cruise. Hotellet ligger like ved både flyplassen og cruisehavnen, slik at det kun er snakk om en liten drosjetur til 10-15 dollar, samt at hotellet har shuttle til havnen som ligger på ca 5 dollar pr snute, kjørt til riktig skip. Det at hotellet ligger rett ved flyplassen merker man ikke stort til hva gjelder støy. Det eneste som er å utsette er lokasjonen i forhold til f.eks spisesteder og butikker, som gjør at man er avhenging av å kjøre/bli kjørt til butikk eller restaurant, da det er et greit stykke til forts. Men dette koster ikke akkurat mange dollarene.. Dette var mitt andre opphold på dette hotellet, og kommer trolig til å bo her også neste gang jeg er i byen i samme ærend :)

Vi valgte deluxe rom og det var herlig på alle måter, og svært romslig med eget soverom, kjøkken og 2 digre bad - hvorav ett med TV i boblebadet.... Eneste man kan påpeke var at madrassen i sovesofaen ikke var noe særlig. Ellers prikkfritt og en god opplevelse på alle måter.

"Winterhaven"
Hotellet ligger nesten øverst på Ocean Drive - perfekt beliggenhet bare få minutters gange fra "alt" på South Beach, samtidig som det er relativt stille og rolig rundt hotellet (de fleste utestedene ligger litt lenger ned i gaten). Stranden er rett over veien. Man får låne strandstoler og -hånklær på hotellet. Parkering i området koster litt, men det […] finnes flere P-hus. Frokosten på hotellet ver OK, men ikke kom i site liten, for da er utvalget dårlig! Det mest negative med hotellet var betjeningen, som generelt var litt ite serviceinnstilte...OBS! Vi måtte betale et ekstra "gebyr" for frokost etc da vi sjekket inn. Kunne ikke velge bort dette. Dette ble det ikke opplyst om i bookingen. Les mer

Du betaler for beliggenheten. Den er det ingen ting å si på. Frokosten var OK (Vaffel med sirup, eller toast med syltetøy) Rommet var rent og pent. Sjøgløttet vi betalte for var minimalt. Vinduene var ikke vasket.
"Super beliggenhet på South Beach, men..."
...vær kresen ved valg av romkategori. Vi har overnattet ved flere titalls hoteller i store deler av USA, i alle slags kategorier, og kan anbefale Winterhaven, men velg rom som minst har "havgløtt". Ved vårt siste besøk her var vi på bryllupsreise og hadde bestilt havgløtt, da fikk vi et rom hvor man så rett på en hvit vegg (ca 10m fra vinduet vårt), […] vi måtte presse ansiktet mot vinduet for å se havet... Da kan man trygt kalle det "gløtt"... Vi var nok uheldige, og ved å forklare resepsjonisten at dette var de siste nettene på bryllupsreisen vår og at vi hadde håpet å se litt mer enn en vegg, så gikk han etterhvert med på å bytte rommet vårt. I fjor hadde vi et nydelig rom på hjørnet av bygget, i 4. etasje, det hadde en nydelig utsikt og var av god størrelse. I år endte vi opp med et rom i 3. etasje midt på (hotellet har 3 rom mot havet i hver etasje, 2 på hjørnene og et i midten, som vi fikk nå). Så vi fikk vel forsåvidt viljen vår, med unntak av at resepsjonisten hadde glemt at palmekronene dekket til utsikten fra dette rommet... Så når du booker rom her, velg rom hvor ord som "Mot havet" eller "Solgløtt" er nevnt, ellers kan du risikere å komme i nærheten av en heis (som bråker), mot en hvit vegg, eller mot bakgatene... Når det gjelder beliggenhet syns vi hotellet ligger perfekt til på South Beach. Det ligger ganske langt opp, vekk fra bråket fra utestedene, men allikevel bare 3 min. gange unna, og med Miami Beach rett over veien. Handlegatene rundt Lincoln Avenue er bare 15-20 min. gange unna (eller $10 taxitur), mens Collins Ave. ligger rett bak hotellet, paralellt med Ocean Drive (som hotellet ligger på). Her har man alt man trenger, i umiddelbar nærhet, uten å merke bråket rundt det. Herlig. Ellers fremstår hotellet som rent og pent, med de fleste bekvemmeligheter man trenger, satt inn i et historisk miljø. "Simple, but nice"
Hotel is nice and good value. Got charged a mandatory "amenities fee" on check in for a breakfast, gym discount and internet I didn't need/use, but location was great and we were overall very satisfied. Very professional staff. Clean.
"Excellent location and value for money"
Nice hotel with a fantastic location close to the beach and the water holes was around the corner. Renovated rooms, but the pillows could be better, so bring your own. Breakfast was better than expected. Even if the reception and bar area was still under renovation we enjoyed our stay !

Staff was friendly and helpful (even offered an upgrade when I asked for an early check in time); hotel was under remodeling (no construction noise at all during my stay tho); location- awesome! This hotel "would" have been great if the lobby wasn't in remodel mode all day long - although they did put it back together for breakfast. The floors were being sanded and finished all day long, so the noise was irritating, you could sit outside, but not inside, and you had to navigate your way through the lobby to get to the elevator. This hotel "would" […] have been great if we were there at another time. There was a music festival and spring break going on. Our first night there was loud music from the club next door going on half the night. We were told that it would stop at 8 pm. When it was still going on at 11 we called the front desk - they said they would get back to us - a half an hour later they still hadn't called. We called hotels.com and they contacted our hotel - only then did they call us back and move us to a room on the other side of the hotel. We couldn't hear the music but were next door to a roomful of girls partying all night long for the next 2 nights. "Great For the Location"
The hotel was in a great location! Conveniently located across from the beach & on the lively strip of Ocean dr. The rooms are on the small side. The one issue was the valet service. I had to wait almost an hour for my car! Very inconvenient!!!
The location, room, service and hotel was fantastic, the only reason I rated the condition of the hotel less than a 5 was due to the construction that was everywhere....can't wait to see it when its completed!

Nice little hotel on Oceans drive. This means you are close to everything and right on the beach. The rooms are OK but quite run down. As I stayed at the hotel there was renovation on going. This did not affect my stay but hopefully the rooms will be better in the future. I had breakfast included which is ok. Location of this hotel is everything!

"A hidden gem in South Beach"
This hotel has an amazing location and if you are visitng Miami on a random weekend in January this is your hotel to be at. Streets are not crowded with college kids and plenty of parking spaces are available. They are renovating the upper floors first and our hotel room was newly renovated. The bathroom was done fairly well and felt clean and inviting. […] The bed was comfortable and from the window we could get a glimpse of the ocean. The location is excellent and with $11 resort fee you get beach towel $5 bar coupon, breakfast, snacks in the lobby (fruit and granola bar), and discount at a nearby restaurant. Front desk service was excellent and they are willing to help. I did not hear any renovation noises like the rest of the review says but if you are in your room long enough to start noticing noises, then why are you in Miami to begin with? Good hotel, friendly staff and the hotels location is perfect and close to lincoln road. The rooms are ok and clean as you would expect. But if you want a big breakfast buffé you should take another hotel. For me the breakfast was ok but nothing special. "Winter Haven - not for sleeping"
great Location but walls are PAPER thin. I could hear the couple in the room next to ours simply having a normal conversation. They weren't yelling or anything, just talking. It was really hard to fall asleep. In addition, we had an ocean view which was nice at first, but at night it is nearly impossible to fall asleep with all the hustle and bustle […] on Ccean Drive. I wish they could put some insulation in the walls to mask some of these sounds. Everything else about the hotel was great. Staff was friendly and helpful, location was great, room was clean, etc. Only compliant was that i didn't sleep more than an hour or so. Oh and one more thing....obviously the bathrooms were designed by men because the sink was so tiny that there is no countertop to put makeup bags, hair dryers, or toothbrushes. You literally have to hold everythign in your hand when getting ready. In addition, the lighting in the bathroom is minimal and not enough to put on makeup. Les mer

The hotel is all about location. It is close to restaurants and bars but not directly above them. So one can walk to them without being disturbed at night. The rooms are decent size but the bathroom is small. I would stay again.

"Good but..."
All in all it was a good place to stay - HOWEVER, there was construction during my visit of which I was unaware. The lobby was a disaster! And all day long, there was pounding and sawing and drilling. Then, while I am on a conference call with my office, the fire alarm goes off. The fire alarm went off 4 times in 45 minutes. Once this started, we tried […] to get down the elevator - which was a joke as well. There is 1 elevator of which was shared with all 5 floors as well as the cleaing crew and the construction workers. It took FOREVER, it was so frustrating. I would have just taken the stairs but the constuction blocked those as well. Lastly, after talking to the front desk about the fire alarm, they just blew us off like it was no big deal. I was very dissappointed with how everything was handled. I believe it would have been a delightful stay if it weren't for the ridiculous construcion and the lack of consideration by management. "Pleasantly surprised!"
I have stayed in various hotels in this area and, within this price range, this is by far the best hotel I have encountered. Some renovations ongoing in the general areas of the hotel, but the rooms are renovated, clean, large enough and quite. Not to mention the massive closetspace! "Cant beat the location"
This hotel is in an unbeatable location. And when my tv didnt work at 1am, they were able to get someone from another hotel 5 blocks away to fix it really fast. the service was really personal. This hotel is currently under construction (Dec 2011) and looks like a disaster. Besides this, it is fairly run down. The pluses are that it's right on Ocean Drive close to the action, and that they do provide free breakfast.

"Great historic hotel, but under ongoing renovation"
I have stayed at the Winter Haven several times before and loved it. Beautiful building and lobby, simple but comfortable rooms and friendly staff all right on Ocean Drive in Miami Beach. This time, the hotel was under renovation, so I called ahead to get more details and was told that the construction was only in guest rooms and only on weekdays. […] Unfortunately, this was not the case. I arrived on Saturday and observed ongoing contruction through the weekend. There was sheetrock dust in the elevator and lobby, and I sometimes had to share the elevator with the workers. There was also occasional hammering going on in a room below mine (daytime only), and my ceiling light and fan kept turning on and off by itself. Hotel offered to waive the resort fee when I reported the problem with my light, which was nice. Most of this was a minor nuisance, but it did make my stay less enjoyable than usual. If you want to enjoy the experience of an historic Miami Beach hotel, I would recommend you wait until the construction is completed. Les mer

"Not bad"
My husband and I stayed at this hotel for one night before we got on a 3-day cruise. There was construction going on at that time - which is a good thing, it means they're renovating, which they probably need. The room was okay, small but okay. It was definitely an okay hotel to stay at for one night to a much better destination - so if you're not looking […] to spend a lot and just need a place to sleep for the night, this isn't a bad option. But if you're looking for a miami vacation, I wouldn't stay here. The hotel has very limited amenities, they over beach chairs and beach towels for a daily amenity fee, which was waived for us on account of my husband's birthday. "Great Location"
This art-deco hotel is well located across from the park and very handy to the beach, bikes, and good tavern. The staff was great and very accomodating for helping us check in early due to our early flight. Caution, there is some construction on the exterior underway and there is a lot of daytime construction noise. Beautiful lobby and porch!

"Jack hammer alarm"
My wife and I recently stayed at this hotel before heading on to finish our vacatin and wanted to sleep in prior to departing Miami. Well we werent told on hotels.com of any construction nor when we checked in to the Winter Haven. Woke up at 0920 to the sound of a man jack hammering on the outside wall of the hotel. We complained to the front desk and […] they said we should have gotten a letter on the desk in our room and a letter when we checked in. NOPE TO BOTH. The said all they could do was credit us the $11.50 Resort fee. WOW wont go back! That and the shower is smaller than the ones on cruise ships. Les mer
"Awesome experience. The perfect weekend retreat."
In short: All in all it's a great deal. Great location, great price compared to what else is around, helpful and very friendly staff. Highly recommended. More details: It's on the north end of South Beach making it a great location. Cross the street and you're on South Beach. Walk 3 blocks north and you're on the popular Lincoln Rd. The hotel is right […] out of a movie with the classic Miami art deco style. They have fresh fruit waiting for you in the lobby. Breakfast is included if you're up before 10am - unlikely if you enjoyed Maimi Beach's amazing night life. The room was big enough, comfy bed, nice TV. The bathroom is tight, but it is all white, very clean and quite charming. The staff was great at all hours of the day. They were one of the best I've experienced. Be aware that there is a separate (and mandatory) hotel fee for amenities such as beach towels. For two of us it came to $38, but included the $20 or $25 for a day of valet parking. Les mer

The hotel was very well situated close to beach, and the rooms clean, although it always smelled very stuffy everytime we returned to the room. An extra bed lamp and desk will be great. The furniture and futtings in lobby and on front veranda really need an upgrade.

Overall a good experience but for a couple of things. Carpet was dirty in room and windows were so dirty could not see out of them. Hotel has just changed ownership and so I expect to see improvements. I would stay again. Watch the valet service, which is contracted, they damaged my car and tried to get away with it. Directly across from the beach. The staff were beyond helpful. They definitely exceeded my expectations. The hotel was nice and quiet. Served a continental breakfast which was very nice. You cannot beat the price for the location, staff, and amenities. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would book this hotel again.

The listing price on hotels.com was low and within my budget. But when I arrived the hotel adds an amenity fee and valet parking fee. I could have not had valet parking but on South Beach all they have is metered parking on the street. I was not expecting to pay an additional $114 for my 3 day business trip. Overall we were satisfied with this hotel. Very nice staff, they help you out with any problems you have. Beach is just over the street and the hotel is on Ocean Drive, where all Restaurants are - even then it's not noisy because of people outside. 2 Points I'd change are the noisy Aircon and there are no real curtains, so its not a 100% dark in the […] night. When you check in, you're given a list of amenities at the hotel such as beach towels, breakfast, afternoon snacks, $5 discount at the bar, etc. This list is represented as being a list of free benefits of the hotel. When I checked out of the hotel, however, the staff member asked if she should charge $45 to my credit card for amenitites on the list. "Winterhaven in SOBE"
Cons- 1- Windows do not open onto Ocean Drive. 2- Worn carpet needs replacing. 3- Very small shower space. 4- Better bring earplugs for nightly noise & traffic. 5-Need to upgrade their mattresses. "Beach Access"
The hotel was nice. They always had bottled water sitting out which was helpful with the 90 degree weather. The beach is right across the street and there are plenty of resturants along the street. The room is very, very small. You can barely turn around. Overall the stay was nice!
