"Great atmosphere and entertainment"
The lounge downstairs hosted a jazz and blues jam that featured truly outstanding local musicians. The drinks were good and reasonable and the bartenders charming. Hotel staff were all great. The central location was good and the historic building wonderful. Decor downstairs was outstanding. The room was spacious and well designed, with huge craftsman […] windows. But details could make the difference between shabby and lovely. The carpet was ripped and faded in places. If you can't afford to replace it, an accent rug or two would have covered the bad spots.. Paint was peeling around the bathroom doorknob , a 5 minute touch-up, the toilet seat lid was chipped and ugly, which again, is cheap to replace and takes 5 minutes. No in-room coffee and tea is a big negative, and shampoo and conditioner were not replaced for the second night despite occupancy by two females. the big frustration was the thermostat. You couldn't set a temperature, just 1,2, 3,4,5,etc. so if you came in and it was freezing, and you tried to take the chill off, you'd be ridiculously hot by morning. A basic thermostat with a temperature setting is also cheap at any hardware store. Overall, I would certainly stay here again. My daughter and I had a lot of fun between Friday jazz and Saturday salsa, but I'd be more likely to come for a romantic weekend if they took care of the simple aesthetic details. Les mer
"Eureka Inn"
In a word, the place is creepy. There are supposed to be 50 working rooms, but there were only 3 cars in the parking lot. We saw a total of 1 other guest during our 2 day stay. The only noise was at 3 am when a loud booming woke us. Not sure what that was. They have rehabbed the place, but have stopped short of doing a complete job. The furniture in […] our room looked like it came from a garage sale. The carpet had a large stain and the sink was pulling away from the wall. It is old and very worn. Les mer
"Eureka was not all I hoped for."
Eureka is a very eclectic town. The Carson Mansion is a beautiful example of amazing Victorian architecture. That is about the only thing positive I have to say about the town of Eureka. As for the Eureka Inn, it was a nightmare. As we drove through town i grew somewhat apprehensive as we drew closer to the hotel, as the neighborhood is a bit sketchy […] at best. The hotel however turned out to be beautifully restored on the outside. The lobby also has been beautifully restored. The lady who checked us in was very sweet and helpful once she appeared at the front desk. We wandered about the lobby for about ten minutes before seeing anyone. She did apologize and told us she was working with the manager. When we reached our room I was very disappointed. The room appeared to be in the process of upgrading. No drapes at the windows, only sheers and fortunately louvered blinds. The bathroom was nicely restored with the exception of only a sheer at the window and bare bulbs for lighting. This is advertised as a beautifully restored historical hotel. That is only half true. If our room was any example, they have a long way to go to finish the upgrades. Oh, and to top the whole thing off, early in the morning as we got ready to hit the highway the power went out in our room. I was left with half wet hair and we were forced to pack our belongings in the dark. My husband went to the lobby to report the outage and found no one about to help get the power restored. When we checked out a little while later a young man eventually appeared at the front desk and when I told him what happened he said, "Oh, you must have blown a breaker." Les mer
Heating system did not work. They had to bring in a space heater. Very limited continental breakfas
"Ejureka Inn"
Every thinh was fine but the room was too cold.
"Great historic hotel"
Even though it was under renovation at the time, it was still a great place to stay. It was very close to old town and I loved the historic nature of the place.
"Musty & Moldy"
We spent a night at the Eureka Inn recently. While the room itself was clean it reeked of mold and mildue. The lobby archetecture was magnificient in appearance but the room itself was too cold for comfort. It seemed that the common area (lobby & hallways) were unheated to save on the heating bill. The room we stayed in was not one of the "newly remodeled" […] rooms and unfortunately it reeked of mold and mildue so badly we had to leave as soon as we woke up. The Inn is in the process of renovation but if you stay there I would suggest staying in one of the remodeled rooms (It will be more expensive that the rooms offered on this website) and perhaps you won't have a mold and mildue issue. "Decrepit in the daylight and dangerous at night"
The Eureka Hotel has such great potential; it's a beautiful historic building, and when we saw it in the daylight, it's easy to imagine how lively and lovely it was in its heyday. But that time is long gone--now, the hotel is rundown, musty, and down-right frightening. Because the hotel is being remodeled one room at a time, parts of the building are […] closed off and unlit. At night, this meant walking past and sometimes down dark hallways to get to our room--which was likely the only inhabitated room of 100 on the floor. The beds and furntiure might be new, but the heating system and plumbing is decades old. The rooms are cold and the bathtubs and sinks fill up with water but never drain. At best, the room was uncomfortable; at worst, it was creepy and haunted. The hotel's location in old town Eureka is now a liability, as the neighborhood is rundown and crime-filled. We checked into the hotel after 11 p.m. and checked out before 10 a.m.; in that short time, our car--while parked in the Inn's lot--was broken into. We were given no warning by the hotel staff that the neighborhood or the parking lot was prone to prowls, and we received little help from the staff when we informed them of what happened to our car. And this happened the day after Christmas, so there is no telling what the crime rate is like during warmer and more tourism-heavy times of the year. We were attracted to the Eureka Inn because we love old buildings--our own apartment is pre-war--but this place is more agony than antique. Resist any temptation to stay based on the hotel's "character" or "charm." It's terrible. It's cold. It's smelly. It's dangerous. Stay away. Les mer
"Eureka Inn in Eureka, a grand ol' lady"
Eureka Inn was built in 1922 and is now going through a transformation to get it back to its originial luster of preivous years. The staff was most helpfull considering I had just lost my wallet! My room was great, with a very comfortable bed, with lots of hot water and water pressure. I could look out my window and see downtown to 4th st and on to […] the beautiful bay. The original architecture of Redwood bannisters, and beams in the ceiling are beautiful. I looked at one of the doors and could see small scars and could almost see the past with carts coming in with food for the guests. I specifically chose this Inn because of its antiquity, I love staying in hotels or Inn's or Bed &B lodging that has character. This Inn and the Benbow Inn, south of Garberville were designed by the same architect. The Eurkea Inn also has several pictures and memorabilia of when the Inn was built.. If you don't love a little history, then go somewhere that is noisy, filled with running children and blaring TV's and leave places like the Eureka Inn for those of us who enjoy beauty in a building and appreciate the of peacefull surroundings and visualize those who came before us. "Eureka Inn"
Great place if you enjoy staying at historic places with lots of history and character. If you are looking for modern amenities I would recommend looking elsewhere. It is super close to Old Town Eureka which is a major plus, and only 15-30 minutes from Arcata and Trinidad.
"Eureka Inn- not ready for guests"
I didn't end up staying at this hotel. I checked in, got to my room, and turned right around and checked out. The room I was given was clearly not renovated. Walls were all banged up, the brown carpet was dirty and stained. All of the lamps were askew. Also, someone made the bed and then proceeded to sit on it or something because the pillow was turned […] and there was an indentation. I went to use the toilet and there was mold growing on the seat. The hotel looks like it will be beautiful once its completely renovated. Just seems that they still have a ways to go first. Les mer
"Eureka Inn Hotel"
The new owner, whom I talked to, should have made his investment in something that he knows about. After a year and a half the place is in shambles. No restaurant nor coffe shop.

"Very Rudimentary"
Best described as "Bare Bones". The structure is impressive on the outside, but services are lminimal. Not recommeded at this time. Perhaps in the future.
"Eureka Inn, Eureka, CA"
This old hotel may have had it's charms once but not today. From the largely empty lobby to a room with furniture from the '50's, including a Murphy Bed, it was disappointing. Breakfast was meager and the height of self-serve: a bag of bread and a stick of butter for the toast. I would not recommend this hotel.
It was fun to stay in this Historic Inn but it was certainly lacking in many respects. No air conditioning, coffeepot, hair dryer etc. We were told that we were staying in one of the remodeled rooms, but the carpet was faded, the drapes dated, and the furniture Mediterrean style from the 1970's. The continental breakfast was sufficient and basic. The […] staff was friendly. This hotel could be in it's glory again with a real remodeling. Les mer
"good hotel"
when they finish renovations and when they kick the service up a few notches to other hotels that are historic this hotel will be amazing. for now though it is good and interesting and clean no bells and whistles though
"As expected, its a work in progress."
We decided to take a chance on the Eureka Inn as it had a good location close to downtown Eureka. Based on reading other reviews, we were prepared to find the hotel still in the process of being renovated. Our room was acceptable. It was clean and the bed was comfortable, but the drapes didn't close all of the way. Furniture was dated, except for the […] TV. The bathroom was in need of further work. The linoleum and ceiling were both water stained. There is a little lounge in the hotel that looked like it was straight out of the 70's. The night that we were there (a Saturday), there was live entertainment, but the singer was horrible. The included breakfast was very basic: danishes, coffee, juice, and yogourt. In general, the hotel is a work in progress. I loved the idea of staying in a historic hotel, but there is still a lot that needs to be done. Some final remarks about Eureka. We were very surprised to find this town to be very, very sleepy. We thought it would be a quaint little touristy town on the coast, but found it to be too quiet for our liking. On a Saturday night, as we walked around town, it seemed like there was nobody out except for some homeless folks. We were there in mid-September, so maybe a tad out of season, but still expected a bit more action on the weekend. Had we known what Eureka was going to be like, we probably wouldn't have made the stop there. Les mer
"Eureka Inn"
We loved this old hotel. It was a very charming place to stay with a very comfortable room. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I hope I get a chance to go back!
"Great Place"
We had our daughter book us a room for our weekend getaway. when she was telling us about this place we were both unsure, but once we got there. We both fell in love with the place. The rooms were really cozy and clean. The staff was over the top friendly and super helpful. The hotel has a great feeling to it. We are thinking of planning another trip […] up there just to stay at the hotel again Les mer
t.v. lacking channels. bed way to hard. other than that had a good time.
"Eureka inn"
Hotel has been nicely renovated. Breakfast was poorly, not sufficient, not a lot of choice. Needed to call staff several times to supply items. Parking was convienent. Very nice bar, friendly service.
"Eurekha Inn"
It sucks big time !!!. No Proper service , Rooms were not cleaned , when we asked them to change us to a new room , they were not responsive at all. I definately would not recommend this to any one.

"Interesting and nice"
The hotel is Historic so everything in the lobby and exterior is very old and unique. Although the pool looked newer. Our room was small but very clean. The shower was awesome and the bed nice and clean and cozy. We enjoyed being able to walk into the downtown area and shop and dine. The continental breakfast was less then desirable. It would have been […] fine but it was not restocked from earlier supplies. It ended at 9:30 and we arrived at 9am.. not what I consider last minute, so I would assume their would have been something left other then toast. Regardless ... we enjoyed our stay. Les mer
"History Buffs a MUST"
They are still renovating this 1922 Inn, So some services weren't available but did not distract from the unique atmosphere and history. The staff was very pleasant, helpful and accomodating. I definately will stay again.
"Charming Hotel: It could be great"
This hotel is wonderful because of the history that it obviously has. The old wood, big lobbies, and historic memorabelia is great. It seems as if they are still working on adding some things to the lobby and surrounding ground floor things because it was furniture-sparce. The room was huge! It seemed as if it had been two rooms at one time and they […] chose to open it up and make two rooms. What a great idea! The room seemed comfortable and easy to sit in and even have sitting visitors. The down side of the room was the sparceness of amenities. There was nothing extra offered in the room except for one shampoo and body lotion. No iron, conditioner, hairdryer, extra towels available, blankets, coffee maker, no more than 2 cups. There was plenty of storage, but no hotel guest information...no phone book, no way to know how to do anything in town at all! The only other funny thing was that every time we flushed the toilet, it sounded like a jet engine started up, but it took about 30 seconds to rev up! That was a little annoying because we could hear every room's jet engine! The clerk who checked us in was nice but very ...unusual. She did not seem to be able to concentrate or remember how to do anything. The manager who came out to help her was visably and verbally angry with her and actually, because we were right there, the manager was pretty rude. The hotel is wonderful...historical...beautifu.... but bring your own everything! Les mer
"A Delightful Stay"
We were greeted very pleasantly. The first room assigned to us was not to our liking and they gave us another room which we were quite happy with. The bed was very comfortable. Everything worked. There's not a lot of extras in the rooms, but the staff was very accommodating to meet our needs. It's a nice older hotel and a good value. Overall it was […] a nice stay and very close to down town and Old Town. Les mer
"Historic Inn"
Great to see such an awesome Historic Inn under rennovation. The building has so much character but a lot more will have to be done by the owners to bring this beauty back. The room was fine and the bed was ultra comfortable. The bathroom area, however, was not completely clean. Not many frills, but alot of ambience!

"Old World Charm, yet quite affordable"
This Grand Dame of hotels is elegant in her retirement, though perhaps not as up to the minute as she once was. The lobby is the crown jewel. It is spacious and projects a stateliness you don't often see these days. What the hotel really needs is a receptionist with a more upbeat image. The hotel is quiet because there are not that many guests there. […] I recommend that you visit now, while it's still open. The accommodations are clean and sufficient for a very comfortable stay. Consider it your opportunity for a visit to some old world charm. Les mer
This is a very nice Hotel. Currently under renovation. I look forward to returning once it is finished and the resturant is open.

"Don't trust the pictures"
If you could only believe the pictures as a fair representation of what you really get.....this hotel has the possibility to be a quaint hotel but doesn't quite make it...there were ants in our room and the carpets were awful...It looked like they may have been from the original hotel construction in the early 40s.???? The bathrooms were very disgusting.....surface […] cleaned but very aged with cracks, old linoleum and ancient shower heads. Les mer
Thought that this historic property would be updated, but sadly down on its heels. Depressing, and not the "antique" experience that we had hoped for. Can do better form same price at an "efficiency" motel.
"Eureka Inn..STAY AWAY if you need sleep!"
This was by FAR the WORST travel experience we have ever had. Our "suite" was nothing more than a sound conduit for the activity going on in the common areas directly below our room. Ear plugs did not help, as thumping music from the open banquet room went on until midnight. Drunken loud voices went on until well after 2 AM. The bar also had their own […] noise machine going on with a band. This was TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE for what we paid, and got nothing more than "oh, so sorry!" from the lame help. The place is pretty run down also, the ONLY ice available was when you could hunt down someone to give you a scoop from behind the bar somewhere. Floors literally rattled and you could hear loose pipes under the floors. Beds were so worn out that you ended up in a "V" in the middle of the mattress. GOD does this place ever SUCK!!! DO YOURSELF A BIG FAVOR AND GO ANYWHERE BUT HERE IF YOU WANT PEACE AND QUIET!! Les mer

Work in progress. Restoration of wonderful Victorian hotel in Eureka proceeds nicely. Pleasant, comfortable, nice change from the plastic cookie cutter rooms generally available.

"Eureka Inn"
We loved the character of this historic hotel. It was very lovely and our room was large and comfortable. Our kids loved seeing the old telephone switchboard and other displays from the past. The lounge looked very inviting, although we couldn't try it. The only disappointment was the breakfast.
"historic hotel"
this is a very old hotel that is being saved from the wrecking ball. it was clean and comfortable but in need of constant maintenance. it is baronial in feeling with beautiful period details. it deserves to be saved .
"Our stay at the Eureka Inn"
It is a very nice, charming, old hotel. The service was great, and the breakfast was wonderful. The hotel is older, and it shows. If you're looking for the newest amenities, stay at a Super8, if you want old-style charm and character, this is definitely the place.
"Wonderful experience"
It's a great place to stay if you like the feel of the old days. Once they get all of the renovations done, it will truly be a wonderful experience for anyone.
"Eureka Inn bad place to stay.......almost a joke.."
This is a landmark Hotel and I found out it was purchased with the intent on a remodel and they post this as such, but the fact is , the remodel funds must have went down to nothing very fast. The first thing you find is the smell of a rotting damp building. Very very poor lighting, noisy thin walls where you can hear the next door neighbors snoring. […] No accomodations where you can even get a cup of coffee in the morning in or out of your room, counter service was very slow and uncaring about what your concerns may have been, bad parking facilites meaning to small and no place to park without long walk to get your luggage in and to and from your vehicle, plus the room was a joke too, as the bathing tub with shower is very old as well and not remodeled, with the tub sitting a good 10 to 12 inches up off the floor and had to virtually climb up and to get in with no grab handles and almost slipped to fall, but was lucky. This is very very dangerous. I am elderly but in ok shape, otherwise a law suit would have been in place. This toilet was on the same level as the tub and you almost have to be very tall to use it normally. I had ha I Les mer

Cant wait to see the transformation when it is totally renovated. Service was great, just lacks extras. Hair dryer would have been nice, coffee in room, microwave, etc. Beds and linens nice.
"Clean room"
The room was clean, the beds comfortable. Curtains wouldn't close and carpet needs to be replace. For the price this hotel was quite adaquit. The "remodeling" has been a paint job in the rooms.
