The hotel was fine. It was clean, easy to locate and close to a wonderful mall. I just had no idea that I would have a view of the projects across the street from the hotel.

The hotel staff was very unorganized and slow. I got there at 3:45pm on a Sunday and they didn't check me in until 5pm even though I had pre-paid through hotels.com. After checking in around 5pm, I went to a show. Once I returned, somebody else was in my room! Those poor people realized our bags were in the room and they left. I would not stay here again. It is right next to public housing & did not feel comfortable walking my dogs there. When we checked in, it took over 30 minutes waiting in line to be checked in, for him to do all the paperwork & tell somebody directions at the same time while checking us in. My room was very clean. I liked that they used all white bedding so it was easy to see that it was clean. I did notice several things that were surprising: 1) The room did not have a refrigerator 2) There was no shower cap in the bathroom so I asked the maid. She did not have one and said she would bring me one later but she never did. 3) The tub did […] not drain well so when taking a shower after about 1 min I was standing in a pool of water 4) The TV was not a flat screen - it was very old I was still satisfied because my main goal was cleanliness and that was achieved. I gave this hotel a 3 rating only because the hotel staff were nice and worked very hard. However, this was the most poorly managaed hotel I have ever stayed at. The hotel was severely understaffed, and everyone who worked there seemed to be doing double-duty. The front desk people valet-parked cars, we waited a very long time in the hotel restaurant, […] as the waitress seemed to be simultaneously handling all of the dining room, the room service, and I suspect if we went in the kitchen, we would have seen her cooking everything as well. The lobby was very new looking, but the rooms were a little dated and our floor had a strange odor when you got off the elevator. On the surface it had all the trappings of a higher-end chain, with the management and staffing of a motel/B&B. A bizarre experience, compounded by the irony that the hotel was very busy due to 2 different hospitality management conferences going on that week onsite! Nice hotel. Parking lot a little strange and still do not understand why we were charged for parking when the lot was enclosed. Breakfast was great. Plenty to choose from and well worth the money. Booked on hotels.com saved some money.

We were quite pleased with our stay at the Crowne Plaza. First of all, it was a terrific price and included a wonderful breakfast buffet. It was attractively decorated in a hip, modern style. Our standard room was clean and spacious. A few minor drawbacks - no refrigerator in the room, room airconditioner was loud (but worked well), and had trouble […] with the wifi connection. The biggest problem was the surrounding neighborhood. Though there are nice areas closeby, please be careful about Granby Street. We had heard there were lots of fun pubs and bars, but we turned back after a block due to fear for our safety-had a druggy atmosphere. The staff was very sweet but the hotel amenities left Moreso be desired. The air conditioner was obnoxiously loud and the bed was too firm. This made it really difficult to sleep. The location isn't ideal but it is, however, really close to MacArthur Center, so if you want to shop, that's great.

The staff were very courteous and helpful. I had a handicapped accessible room, which was just that, real roomy, the bathroom was large enough for a person using a wheel chair. There was one flaw but I didn't see it until time to leave. One of the bed spreads had spots on it. I'm glad I didn't use it. Other than that my stay was enjoyable.

PROS Super clean room, nicely decorated, very comfortable bed ... friendly staff. Pool looked nice (but it's closed in mid-May til I don't know when). Not a far drive from Doumar's and the very hip Colley Ave. Super-close walk to gay-bar 'The Garage' CONS Parking was not included and cost more than I would have expected. I was in Norfolk for business, and the Crowne Plaza, while not in downtown is close enough to make it a quick walk. The building has been around awhile but looks to have been completely rehabbed on the inside in the past few years. Rooms are large and - on the south-facing side - have nice views of downtown. Pros: Nicely-decorated rooms; spotlessly […] clean; free WiFi in the room; very friendly and competent staff. Cons: Room TVs need to be upgraded to flatscreens. No electrical outlets in the bathroom; one has to drag the coffeemaker into the bedroom and find a place to plug it in. Les mer

Hotel was quaint and well kept. Restaurant on site was excellent and the server was superb. Hotel was perfectly located for the areas I needed to visit Downtown Norfolk. Parking fee was unnecessary because there is more than ample parking space, but otherwise enjoyed the stay.

The Crown seemed like it had been renovated recently but during the renovation they forgot to exchange the tube for the expected flat screen. The battery kept falling out of the broken remote. Apparently the bed was the infomercial equivalent to the sleep number system but the input device was either broken or not plugged in properly. Anyway the bed […] was set to super firm. Now I like firm, good for the back and all but...Generally speaking the hotel and room was well kept and kind of modern. The room was roomy, with full glazed wall to the NE, can't say much for the view. The location with in the city was sketchy although it was in close proximity to things the surrounding neighborhood was much to be desired. I felt like I should have brought my side arm. Great rates and nice rooms, friendly staff. Decor is drab and monochromatic.

I loved the efficient way everything was taken care during check in/out procedures. They found my reservation once I gave them my name and in few minutes later I had the keys to access my unit. Checking out was absolutely amazing. Just gave them the keys and it was it. Done deal. All of the staff were extremely helpful and friendly, making the stay much more enjoyable. The beds had sleep number matresses and were wonderful.

A reasonable hotel and the rooms are clean and comfortable. The only small problem I had was that my laundry was not returned in time and I had to go and get it myself in a hurry when I was checking out. Otherwise the staff werew friendly and the bar and food OK.

Its pretty much the only hotel in Norfolk close to Ghent and it is reasonably priced but not real nice. Tiny bathroom and the toilet ran all night. The bag of amenities on the bed had been opened and empty box left without being replaced. Bed is an air mattress which is reminiscent of camping but not for this price! I barely slept and my back hurt the […] next day. No matter how you adjust it an air mattress isn't comfortable. Les mer

The Crown Plaza Hotel in Norfolk, VA was a very good place to stay, we enjoyed the activities in the downtown area, especially Waterside Park.

I was pretty disappointed with the accommodations. Crown Plaza Hotels are generally are pretty nice hotels but this one didn't hold up to the rest of them. They charged $7 for parking and the room wasn't at all what I expected (I'm staying in their hotel I would imagine that parking would be complementary for customers staying at the hotel especially […] in Norfolk, VA). The bed (select comfort) didn't work right and the television was an old tube style zenith that had about 30 channels. Also, my stay was at the end of May and the pool wasn't even filled. The neighborhood that this hotel is in seems to be a high crime area. To say the least I will not stay at this hotel in Norfolk again. Les mer

Did not receive a wake up call that was requested when checking in. Also, hardly any water pressure in the shower when using hot water.

We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. Yes it is next to a project but we barely noticed it and no there were not police stationed in the hotel and it felt very safe. Yes you hear sirens at night because there is a hospital near by and you are in the heart of downtown. We had a spectacular view from our room overlooking the Chrysler Center and other […] monuments in Norfolk. The hotel staff was friendly and more than accomodating. The hotel had just reopened two weeks prior to my stay. So the staff was not trained, however they made up for it with hustle and willingness to please. My room had a light that did not work. All in all the staff made my stay as nice as they could while handeling renovation problems.

Worth the money

My only complaint about the hotel is that the bathroom lights were dim. Only 40 watt bulbs were in the lights and it was too dim to really see well. The bed was very comfortable as well as the pillows!!

My husband and I stayed here for our "In Town" anniversary night and we couldn't have been more satisifed. Because the hotel is undergoing renovations, we got the room at an amazing price. Walking into the lobby was like walking into a movie set for some grand hotel in New York. The staff were extremely helpful and attentive and our room was lovely. […] We were on the top floor and the view was great! The A/C throughout the hotel is a little iffy -- but it works just fine in the rooms and the restaurant. The wireless internet connection was spotty, but we weren't on it much. The continental breakfast was $5 and had more than enough variety for anyone (pastries, bagels, cereal, oatmeal with bowls of brown sugar and raisins, fruit, coffee, etc.) or you could order off the menu which was also really affordable. I recently stayed at this hotel for a conference. At first glance (the lobby), it looks very nice (newly remodeled). But, upon closer inspection...I was very displeased. The rooms smelled like mold, the wall air conditioning unit was old very loud, the hotel itself is right next door to public housing (you will hear police sirens nightly) and several […] floors did not have working ice machines. At the beginning of my stay, the outdoor pool water was a blue green so I reported this to the staff who said it might need to be treated. Two days later it was totally green. During my stay, I saw one ant and a long sliterly creature in my room, plus a collague staying in a room down the hall reported a roach sighting. I immediately asked them to fumigate my room, which I believe they did because I didn't see anything else. One of my Sleep Number beds was broken which resulted in a sunken feel in the mattress. Finally, my room was not cleaned every day. It was the strangest hotel experience I've had in this country! The staff was friendly, but I recommend that folks wait until it is totally remodeled and becomes a Crowne Plaza before booking a stay. Les mer

Do yourself a favor, Click the Back Button as quickly as possible. Run, do not pass go. If you don't understand english and decide to stay here, bring a gun to protect yourself or better yet just shoot yourself. THIS PLACE WAS AWFUL!!! Bueatiful Lobby....no way. Permanent Cops Stationed in Lobby...yes!!!

They were remodelling while I stayed. But even so, the rooms were super clean and comfy. They had a very nice bar on the first floor, a bit expensive but it was clean and nice. It was very quiet also. It was fairly cheap. I did not check out Norfolk, we stayed because it was only about 15 mins from Virginia Beach, and spent all of our time there. i am disappointed with my stay, hotel is dirty, i know that it is under renovation right now but did not try hard enough to make it more comfortable for their guests.

This one is a toss-up. It is a very beautiful hotel, however, the construction is extremely inconvenient. Check-in took awhile because there was only one person working at the front desk who was responsible for checking people in as well as answering the phone. I booked a smoking room with king size bed. I received a nonsmoking room with two double […] beds. Had to go four floors down to find an icemaker. Bathroom had no fan. Room had no microwave or mini fridge, which was advertised on here. Fitness Center is not onsite, it's actually a mile down the street. The pool took me 30 minutes to find because of the construction, even after asking several hotel employees who gave poor directions. The room, however, was quite nice. It looked recently renovated, so it had new curtains, bedding, carpet, bathroom flooring, etc. Les mer
