Hotellet er gammelt og flott, servicen er og upåklagelig, Kommer en med tog ligger hotellet rett ved siden av stasjonen, og avstanden til sentrum er kort. Trenningsrommet og svømmebassenget var i god stand og ble flittigt brukt. Royal York er et gammelt ærverdig hotell med en enestående beliggenhet ved jernbanestasjonen like utenfor bymuren. Vårt opphold var vellykket, men vi havnet i minus1-etasjen, det vil si under jorden. Det var ikke så hyggelig å se ut i en lyssjakt. Men rommet var kjempestort og behagelig ellers, det var vel egentlig et godt rom likevel. Men det som ikke […] var så bra var servicen i spisesalen. Royal York Hotel er et helt greit hotell for de som ønsker å bo sentralt i York. Hotellet ligger i umiddelbar nærhet til togstasjonen. Rommet var greit, men selve hotellet bar preg av å være både gammelt og noe slitent. Ikke et 4 stjerners hotell sett ut i fra norsk standard, men helt ok for et par netter.

this hotel is in a very convenient location. It is about a 10 minute walk into York Centre. the Railway Museum is easily accessed via York Station. Do not miss out on a shopping trip to the York Outlet Mall and a visit to Betty's Tearooms. Staff are helpful and friendly. Some of the decor and carpets in public areas are a little tired and could do […] with replacing but nothing too bad. Room was huge and very warm and comfortable. Spa is nothing to write home about but is adequate for what we needed, pool on the cool side. We ate in the restaurant on our first evening. Meal was fine, albeit the menu was a little uninspiring and wine excellent. We ate out on following nights and I would say that with the choice and value available in York itself this is the best option.The bar is nice and prices reasonable. We stayed in early December and there were lots of parties going on. Strangely I saw on one evening the Restaurant being used for a function and Hotel guests being seated in a separate somewhat bland function room down the hall! There were a lot of corporate events going on during our stay but this had no effect on our enjoyment of the hotel other than it made parking difficult. See below. The main drawback of this hotel is parking. It is very limited for a hotel of this size and is on a first come first served basis. We were lucky but it is a lottery, the porters try to help where they can with finding you a space. The lack of parking was made worse during our stay as an observation wheel (like a mini London Eye) was being erected in part of the hotel grounds. The large number of corporate events also restrict guest parking during the day. Overall however this was a good value stay and was very enjoyable. We would stay here again Les mer

The room didn't match the description or the photos provided on the website. They put us in a room that looked like it was where staff stayed. It was a very far walk and not consistent with the look or feel of the rest of the hotel. It looked like a cruise liner. Only after complaining several times were we relocated to a much nicer room. I think […] they take advantage until people complain, so make sure if you stay here that you immediately complain if your room isn't up to the standards you expect Les mer

I have stayed at this hotel twice now. it has great facilities, reasonably priced, good breakfast, polite staff. This is directly on the Railway station line however we found the sound proofing very good and was not disturbed by the train noise. The only issue was parking, they do provide parking however I would say it could do with more especially […] on conference days. I got blocked in however the staff were exceptional and quickly found the owner. Parking reasonable price also although this is extra. Les mer

The price we paid was certainly not reflected in what we received… Our group had booked five rooms and these all were dated and in need of redecoration. In particular our room was a very small double room with only a wardrobe for storage, the TV which placed on a unit at height lower than the bed so you had to sit on the edge of the bed to watch it, […] in addition the bathroom had a stained shower curtain, dirty grout, etc. Alongside this the public areas were in need of refurbishment with for example frayed carpets on the main stairwell. The hotel had been overbooked so two of our party spent the first evening in a room on the ground floor, this busy corridor was used by staff to move items throughout the hotel and as a result they didn’t get any sleep. We all enjoyed York but were very disappointed in what had looked and promised to be one of the better hotels in York. Les mer

The room was lovely and super clean. The hotel was the perfect location - right near the train station and in walking distance to the city center.

Nicely placed near city centre this hotel is in an ideal location. However this is the only good point about this hotel. The bedroom was clean but very small more like a broom cupboard. The view was atrocious overlooking nothing! no thats a lie overlooking the railway station. You have to pay for parking and its not cheap with a 4 star hotel you expect […] more. We didnt eat there as York was our oyster. Seriously this hotel has seen better days and if you get a small room like we did it makes the experience less than captivating. Never again. Les mer

Families steer clear. 4* prices with 1* standards and service. The business types must get the best deal, families are despatched to the dirty and grubby annex in the east wing, which had an odour of sewage - complaints fell on deaf ears. Rooms are directly opposite a Royal Mail compound, noisy trucks in and out all night. Evening meal and dreakfast […] could only be described as adequte. Couldn't wait to get home to shower the experience away. One weeek later, our final reward for a one night stay in this grubby room was a family infected by athletes foot - ugh. Les mer

have stayed at this hotel before, earlier this year, and returned for husbands birthday. pool area seemed a little grubbier than before and showers i changing area were more than in need of a spruce up, with mildew around all edgdes of shower. the room was over looking station, but didn't really bother us too much, it was a little jaded though, and […] when the shower in the morning went on and off throughout my shower, leaving me with shampoo and conditioner in my hair for several minutes, i was less than impressed. when i reported it ot reception, she was very understanding but didn't offer any form of compensation (not that i was looking for that really). however, overall, not a bad stay but hte hotel is in need of a makeover to bring it back to the 4 * it says it is. Royal York Hotel is in an excellent location - right next door to the rail station. Very convenient if you are traveling via the train and a short walk to York Minster. The hotel itself was very nice and reasonably priced. Our room was very spacious and clean and the bed was very comfortable. We did have one maintenance issue in our room but the hotel […] sent someone up right away and took care of the issue. The hotel restaurant was pricey but the dinner was excellent. My only complaint would be that when I booked our room online it was advertised as having free wifi - but it didn't. Overall we had an excellent stay at the Royal York Hotel - I would definitely stay there again. Les mer

Hotel was very convenient, as we had travelled by train from Fife & London. Room was in need of modernising lots of green mould around bathroom & bedroom windows. Swimming pool bit seedy too, lots of green 'stuff' around there also. Beauty treatment, very nice girl, but a bit chaotic, no credit card machine & running very late as no one was available […] to unlock the treatment room door!! It is not what you would have expected from a 4* hotel. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to the city of York. Hope to hear of some upgrades to the hotel before our next trip. Les mer

i booked this hotel and for the whole time was just nervous if be good enough for me and my partners 1yr anniversary.as soon as we arrived we couldnt belive how gorgeous and big was booked in no problem and even received a up grade freee of charge room was fine big king size bed hotel very very quiet didnt hear a single train slept great,great locasion […] only bad thing i can think of are time was the floor in main hall has very noisy and the room had a tiny damp smell.apart from that staff very friendly food and bar great.every second spent was great thank you for making are weekend amazing Les mer

overall ,o.k but in our room you had to share the kettle and t.v. between one single socket.The t.v was ancient,not even got teletext.Maids seemed very miserable and some did not respond to our good mornings or informing them of our requests.Bar prices for many of the drinks were well over the top.Reception could do with improving,slow response and […] wrong or no papers deliverded..No information in the room about the spa,which we did inform the spa staff about.We are not moaners but this could be a better hotel with more reviews and better hotel observations etc Les mer

My partner and myself was very unhappy with our stay at the royal York hotel. When we arrived we found the room to be dirty sweet wrappers under the bed, paint work was scuffed the room was very small I found it very difficult to get down the right side of the bed as it was too close to the wall. The noise from the station next door went on throughout […] the night. On the Saturday night we returned to the hotel to have a drink at the bar the staff did not know how to mix a cocktail then I was told that they did not have all the ingredients for what I asked for so I asked for something else and my partner said was undrinkable so another girl behind the bar was very apologetic and made another drink that was very nice, even though we enjoyed the use of the leisure facilities we feel that it wasn't value for our money and we will not be stopping at the Royal York Hotel again Les mer

Hotel location is very convenient. Toothbrush and paste were not provided but available on request. Toilet flush broke in the morning, fixed by the time I returned in the evening. Internet free for 30mins only (I was only told this on check out, when I expressed I was not happy for being expecetd to pay for internet). Overall a mediocre hotel.

When we first arrived the receptionist took a few minutes to acknowledge us however once he did he was efficient and friendly. Our room was clean and spacious and our only issue was that the light at our door was flickering and we couldn't keep it on. It took them until the following day to repair it as on a bank holiday they had no maintenance staff […] working which we found a bit strange for such a large hotel which is open all year round. They did ask if we wanted to move rooms however as we were there for such a short time we decided not to move room. Staff were friendly and the hotel is very convenient for the centre of York - only a short walk away and a few minutes from the Railway Museum. We would happily go back again. Les mer

Excellent location, convenient location, facilities are very relaxing to be in especially the bar. Friendly staff and a good breakfast. Only thing was the black pudding was over cooked.

The Hotel itself is lovely and you have access to the fitness center including a swimming pool, sauna, steam room and gym. All the staff are friendly and seem extremely conscientious and well mannered. One major draw back... the hotel chain are cheap money grabbing snivelling weasels. After forking over all that money to sleep in their hotel.. also […] a sizeable increase if you wish breakfast which is a self service greasy spoon that becomes samey after the first night ... they have the absolute gaul to charge for internet access in the room!! they charge £4 per hour via ethernet cable. I have been in cheaper, less well maintain hotels but at least they gave you free wifi, this was the first thing that annoyed me.. Secondly they continued the cheap money grabbing trend by charging for parking, how miserly does a hotel have to be to do that?? I parked in the hotel a total of 4 nights and got charged £28 for the pleasure.... £28!!! Their stinginess has totally put me off ever going to any of their chains in the future and i would suggest you stay away as well really... not worth it as you can find cheaper hotels that actually provide wifi and parking for free... and a decent choice of breakfast served!! Excellent position being adjacant to the railway station. Only 10/15 minute walk to the city centre and all the attractions, shops and restaurants. Hotel room clean and all basics provided. Breakfast good selection and well prepared. Evening meals reasonable selection but a little on the expensive side. Hotel staff very helpful.

The location and grounds of the hotel are excellent.We were in the garden wing in a top class room,somewhat removed from the main hotel.We had no difficulty with this but at check-in the vibes from the staff were that they were somewhat embarrased about locating us there and quickley rattled off the directions of how to get to our room,which was not […] straight forward. The Royal York Hotel was very convenient for the centre of York and right beside the station! Very close to all the must see sights and shops! Room while quite compact was clean and had all that was required for a short stay! Never got time to use the leisure facilities, but there seemed to be plenty of them! Would certainly stay there again! It is […] a little expensive for a 2 night short stay as we didn't have time to use all the facillities because we found there was so much to see and do in York! Staff seemed very friendly and helpful! Car parking at the hotel was very handy but cost a lot per day, so not cheap!! (But York is expensive to park cars!!) All said, we enjoyed our stay there! room was located in the garden wing ground floor. windows were unable to open so corridor and rooms had a stale smell, which was not plesent. room was spacious and beds comftable. shower was poor and dated. only five channels on tv and not a very good picture. breakfast expensive at £15 it was nothing special. with an average selection. car park charges […] £6 weekend £10 weekday and have to go to reseption to activate the ticket to exit carpark but you only have 25mins to exit grounds upon activation. this was an inconvienience. would rate hotel as a 3star not 4 Les mer

We booked two rooms in the hotel and were pleasantly surprised to arrive to a lovely building right next to the station and very close to the main centre of York. The tour bus runs from just outside the hotel and the old city walls are opposite. Both rooms were very large but one, a triple, had to be changed during the night as the bed was uncomfortable. […] The staff were helpful and speedy and no fuss was made, leaving us with three rooms until the morning. Lovely hotel reception and a great location. But my first room was incredibly small for a double (bed crammed in between the wall and the wardrobe so no room for bedside tables), and so hot that I barely slept. It also wasn't terribly clean under the bed. We asked to be moved for the second night and were given a room in the modern wing, much cooler […] and cleaner. I had mixed experience with staff, some being lovely and incredibly helpful and others being a bit surly. Generally, this hotel is a bit shabby around the edges. Good location, but I thought it was over-priced for the quality of the rooms. Les mer

My only real complaint about this hotel is that it has no air conditioning (which is typical), but there were no fans provided and the only bedding was a sheet/comforter combination that just made things worse. We couldn't open the window at night because of the city noise. As a result, we didn't sleep very well. I recommend providing a fan. Also, the […] parking is quite expensive. Les mer

Close to all the must-see sights. A little shabby in places but signs of refurbishment taking place. Some noise from the train station next door but didn't keep us awake. We would stay there again.

the towels and bathrobe were a disgrace. filthy and when taken away by the housekeepong supervisor when we pointed out the filthy condition she nevr replaced it Ho Hum. Breakfast a disgrace and no bread or jam n marmalade. toast pale and slower than you could accept.

Disappointed with hotel from personal experience Decor appears tired and not to standard expected of 4* establishment. Booked 2 rooms 2 months in advance and still allocated rooms in different blocks - one in basement by service entrance. Very convenient and got a good deal!

The hotel was clean, comfortable and vey convenient location. We had a double room but so small there was only room for one bedside table. The floor in the en-suite was on the tilt and as my husband suffers from vertigo at times this was a worry. The price we paid was not reflected in the room size. Bar prices are astronomical and we only had one drink […] and moved on to a local hostelry just up the road. Service, clenliness and comfort of the bed was excellent. Les mer

Peaceful and comfortable stay in York whilst attending close relative's funeral. Good location next to rail station as we travelled by train from London. Good, clean, spacious room. Enjoyable breakfast. Good service.

We made a complaint about the room whilst we were there and also to the company and awaiting repsonse. The hotel itself was beautiful and breakfast was lovely. Our room was on the lower ground, it was extremly cold had to ask for a heater and showered in the spa, it was fitted for people with disabilities and very out dated compared to the other rooms. […] We went and spoke with a cleaner to look at another room which was lovely and she said they get alot of complaints about these and they said herself that they are horrible rooms. If i had to go back to the hotel i would only go if we would not get a lower level room because at least i would think we got our monies worth. I must say that after booking the hotel site unseen from Australia by the internet, we were extremely disappointed upon arrival to find the car park full and were forced to park in a gravel area way from the main building, once booked in wEre sent to the lower level bedrooms, our room had a mouldy smell, it was extremely noisy, wifi non eXistant, never […] asked at any stage if we enjoyed our stay, however great location, York was fabulous. On arrival at the hotel, I was pleased with my choice. However, it is a 4* hotel and I was disappointed with the wait/queue at the reception. Romm was comfy, but could 'hear' guests in the next room, was not pleased with this. Location was ideal.

staff very helpful and friendly, great location, room fine but did feel like we didnt need a visit to the local dungeon as we were staying in one!! five rooms down in the basement of the hotel, stuck out the way with people walking directly past the bedroom window opposite the royal mail depo. we couldnt leave curtains open as people could look straight […] in. Not the cheapest hotel I've ever stayed in, especially as we were in the "Garden Wing", however, the cleanliness, comfort and noise levels were fine. The restarant was very nice, great service, excellent food and good value too. The location is ideal for walking access to York, and parking was easy in the grounds.

We stayed for a long weekend and location is perfect (just next to the station) and within easy walking distance of the centre. Hotel staff really helpful and rooms lovely. Will stay here again when visiting York as also good value.

It's a gorgeous building in a pretty good location, however the rooms are minuscule and lack some modern amenities. The beds are small and uncomfortable and there's no temperature control whatsoever. The windows open, but just barely, and when they are opened all you can hear is the sound of trains. Every room door slams shut, so all morning there is […] the constant sound of slamming doors. It makes it incredibly hard to sleep past 8am. For the price I paid for this hotel, I would have expected much more. I don't think I've ever stayed in a 4 star hotel with such tiny rooms, or uncomfortable beds. I would recommend spending the same money on one of the many much more comfortable b&b's in York. We booked our stay at the Royal York to celebrate our 11th anniversary and we were as happy with our stay as we were all those years ago. Our room was comfortable, clean and tidy, we had a huge bed and the service and food was excellent, the staff helpful and courteous. It is impossible to fault the location of the Royal, literally minutes walk from […] city centre and all areas of interest. We will return as soon as we can and we would most definitely recommend this as one of the top hotels we have stayed in Les mer
