Howard Johnson Inn-Spearfish - Spearfish

Stayed over night. Friendly staff, and Pizza Ranch in the same building. Very good locations to shoppingcenters and main road. Clean room, not very fancy, but god beds. Love it, and would definently stay at that hotel again. Took about 30 minutes to Deadwood and Sturgis each way.

We had a two night stay to help our son move to his new apartment. Hotel was clean and service was great for the room itself. Only one small complaint was the breakfast bar. Good choice of foods (had they been supplied like they should have been, pre made waffles, pancakes, plus scrambled eggs (which where powdered eggs that tasted bad) and sausage […] links, which both days had one link in the warmer (there where 4 of us) and about a 1/2 cup milk left in the gallon jug,(again to feed 4 of us plus several other travelers) . The gal came into the breakfast room about three times and NEVER refilled anything (there were about 7 people in the dining area) We even asked if there was more milk and she replied that she would check and never returned with anything. Kinda made our cereal fun to eat with NO milk. ha. So don't expect anything special. The did have fresh fruit also, which was empty. Was NOT impressed. We ate at 8am on day one and 9am on day two. Went for a family vacation/ visit to the college. The HOJO is a great location in spearfish. The staff was friendly, the location was convenient, and the room was clean. The pool was nice and clean. The continental breakfast could have been better but that was the only complaint.

There was no milk at there cold continental breakfastto have cereal before we left.We went to office to let them know thier response was yea we know so we went to convenience store NEXT DOOR and bought our breakfast.We will be staying in Spearfish quite often but not at H.J.

Clean room, no fridge or microwave, continental breakfast limited, noisy, pool and hot tub crowded with kids.

We were very pleased with the quality of the room and the breakfast service at the hotel. Wifi connectivity was a little sketchy, but overall we were very happy and will certainly stay here again.

...noisy pool parties til after 11pm and air hockey machine, even though sign said pool closed at 10. Had a shower not a tub. Curtain did not reach full length and dripped water all over floor. We combined a business/leisure family trip to Harding County and stayed in Spearfish for 3 nights. We couldn't have been treated any better and were VERY pleased with our accomodations. We had 3 rooms each night and we would highly recommend it to everyone! Thanks!!!!

It was comfortable; reasonably priced and location was great. A bit of confusion with room service. We stayed 3 nights and the cards for maid service are confusing. We put it on the door "do not disturb" because we wanted our service later. Took it down when we left for the day and when we came back, room had not been made up or towels had not been […] replaced. Easily rectified by night clerk. Why not have 2 cards for door: one with "do not disturb" and one with "room service now" or something to that affect. All in all, satisfied. Everything was exceptional especially the Management and Staff. We were there for 9 days and we had two rooms. Anything we needed the staff happily helped us with a smile. All areas were kept clean and the pool and spa were nice. A couple times we ask if the pool water could be warmer and the staff turned to heat up for us. Our stay was very enjoyable. We were treated very well. The staff went out of their way to please us, the service was excellent. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. The only negative thing about this hotel was the pool/spa area. It appeared that it it was enclosed after the hotel was originally build and the ventilation was not very good. This motel has been renovated and is in great shape. After touring around the Black Hills for 2 weeks, we have experienced many different motels and this was a nice one. We were in SD for the car show in Deadwood so this was a great central location for both the car show and sightseeing for the entire area - Devil's Tower, Crazy Horse, Mount Rushmore etc. We had a non-smoking room with no lingering smoke smell which was very nice. Our room was clean but run down with part of the wall paper border torn off of the wall. The bedspread had a stain on it that looked like grease. There wasn't a refg. or mic in our room just a coffee pot. They did serve a nice breakfast variety.

When we arrived at our hotel room, we opened the door to a room that was between 80 and 90 degrees. The AC had obviously not been on for at least a day or two - it was very stuffy in addition to being hot. The AC unit was in the front room of the Suite, there was no AC in the bedroom. We turned on the AC about 5pm, and it didn't get cool enough in […] the bedroom until about 3 am. It would have been nice if the staff had turned on a bit of cool air starting at check in time (3PM) or sooner. I understand that Howard Johnson is trying to save money and be "green" but I'm pretty sure they lost all those savings with our AC running on high for 12 hours straight trying to catch up. was very nice overall. Not impressed with cleaning staff, we never got any cups or shampoo besides the firs day. with 4 people staying for 3 nights they should have been replenished. the front desk staff was awsome, they were very helpful !!!

All staff incredibly helpful and nice. Very quite neighborhood. Bed sheets didn't quite fit the beds but didn't come off while using bed. Indoor pool very cold but spa was pleasant. Good breakfast also. Would use this hotel again.

Friendly staff, clean hotel. Pool was very cold but the spa was nice. The complimentary breakfast was decent. Some parts of our dbl queen room had been updated, while others were dated. Only drawback was the noise level from hallway and adjacent rooms.

I found this hotel to be fantastic! The staff was very kind and helpful, the computers were down when we arrived and I thought there would be an issue but it was one of the easiest check ins I have experienced. The hotel appeared to be clean and well maintained. There were some areas that you could tell were older and perhaps in need of a little care. […] The pool area was enjoyed for several hours by my boys, clean and comfortable. Upon arrival our hospitality attendant, Tyler was incredibly efficient and helpful. Unfortunately, a lack of communication from within made his job much harder. We walked into a room that not only the toilet and tub had been used, but the tub had a large discolored patch and the room did NOT have a microwave or fridge as advertised. Tyler was quick […] to move us to an alternate room. Unfortuantely, not only was it on the first floor BUT the laundry was right across from our room and was NOISY NOISY NOISY. The ONLY ice was located down by the pool....inconvenient and unthoughtful. The eggs provided with the continental breakfast were powdered...YUK!!!!! The fridge and microwave both tried to fall off their perch every time we used them. The couch had undistinguishable stains on it and was extremely uncomfortable. There was no phone book or writing paper in the room along with suffering from an apparent shortage of washcloths, coffee condiments and overall comfort. Les mer

Staff was Excellent!! Our room was ok. It was one of the older ones. They are in the process of renovating all the rooms. I think the newer ones are much nicer. The hot tub was very dirty, however. I don't think anyone cleaned it the entire time we stayed there in 3 days. There was grime collected in each of the corners, so we skipped the hot tub/pool […] experience. The continental breakfast would have been more useful if it stayed up until 10:00 AM, and I would have liked yogurt on the menu. We came for a wedding, and the site served us well. We enjoyed the pool. The hotel staff was polite, but they did not appear knowledgible about the area or volunteering of information.

This hotel stay was better than we expected. Our room had all new furnishings, carpet and paint. I'm mega OCD and I actually walked barefoot in our room because it was so clean! The only compaint I would have, the bed was really firm which my husband loved. Breakfast was good and the girl who greeted us when we arrived was super friendly!
