"Very close to the civic center"
Staff was friendly, room was very clean and fresh. Only complaint was furnishings/linens were outdated and AC didn't seem to be working very well. My husband and I both woke up in the middle of the night sweating. Wish we would have had more time to use the pool. It looked great!
I have never stayed at a howard johnson and was very pleased with the room. It was very clean and comfortable. The lady in the office was very friendly and welcoming. Enjoyed our stay very much.
Rooms were updated recently. The furniture and appliances are all modern. The rooms are small, but the bathroom has been redone. Beds aren't bent in the middle.
"Clean room, bed and shower"
This is a basic economy motel and meets those expectations. I've stayed here twice and found the rooms clean and functional. HVAC units can be a bit noisy but I've experienced worse. Area is quiet and not too far from I-10 or downtown Lake Charles. Not many amenities and you wouldn't want to hang out here for great lengths of time (pool did not look […] attractive), but it's fine if you're looking for a cheap but decent place to crash overnight. The front desk receptionist, manager, etc., Mr. ..., was very nice, cordial, courteous and professional. The bathroom was nicely designed and very clean.

Worst hotel I ever stayed. Service was bad, people are non-cooperative. Breakfast is not timely and inadequate. Room was not clean. Bedsheets were old, dirty and torned off

There were a few maintenance problems such as lights and plumbing. The main negative factor was the breakfast venue, which was in the small office in an area of 10 by 5 feet with 1 small table - it is a fairly large establishment and not even enough standing room for consuming breakfast. The only complaint I would have is More pillows on the king size bed. We had two of the smallest pillows every on our king sizebed.

This hotel is located in a residential neighborhood, a few miles from either I-10 or (I-110). That's both a good and bad thing. I had to travel several miles to find a restaurant for dinner, and was then wise to that fact in the morning. Don't count on the breakfast they say they offer. What I like the most is the quiet nature of the hotel and neighborhood. You can tell that a family owns the hotel; it has a family oriented feeling to it. The rooms were clean and confortable.

Though not happy with location and small parking lot, I enjoyed my two day stay. The A/C was very cold and the bed was good. The pillows could have been a lot better. Would stay there again for a good price.

I killed two baby roaches in the bathroom. We asked for & were given a noon check out time & were then called at 11:05 am to find out why we hadn't left. The only thing good I can say is that the bed was very comfortable.

"Very nice owners"
The owners were very nice the room was clean and recently remodeled. Very close to down town and both major casino's.
"HJ Lake Charles"
Room size is adequate, and hotel is fairly well-maintained. Room had overpowering smell of air freshener, which bothered my sinuses. Pool is small and too close to the street but clean. Breakfast area is very small with very limited food selection and seating.

HJ can usually be counted on to be clean and well maintained and this one is no different. Extremely friendly desk personnel and spotlessly clean room. Well, maybe the shower curtain could have stood a run through the wash. Very good value for the money.
"Bargain price, convenient location"
After reading some of the reviews, I was a little concerned about saying here. But, the room was really nice, the place was clean, extremely quiet (I stayed on a Saturday night). Overall, I was very pleased and will certainly stay here again on my next trip to Lake Charles.

"Nice and clean"
This was a perfect spot to meet up with my parents who live in Texas. I was on vacation in LA and we met half way and the location was perfect. My parents like to gamble at the casinos and stay there, but for the price and convenience, this was the perfect place to stay for us. I would recommend this place for people who want to gamble in Lake Charles […] but don't want to pay high prices for a casino hotel. Great location. Les mer

Listed as being in historic distric, which maybe the case, but it seemed to me to just a old rundown area with bars on the windows, which is never a good thing.

The only inconvenience about the hotel is it's about 2 miles from the freeway/casino. Also, it's about 2 miles to a restaurant or something similar. I stayed there on Christmas because the casino's hotels were too expensive. It's a great place for a cheap alternative. The room has a fridge and a microwave. There's also free wifi. You can't find all […] that in other cheap motels. Yes, I would stay here again. Remember, leave a tip for housekeeping if you left a lot of work to be cleaned. Les mer
The room had a very bad odor, beds not confortable at all, went to get our breakfast there was no food at all.... Over all not very impressed. Would not recommend.

First of the hotel was not in the best part of town. Second there was no HOJO resturant. I was not convient to the local casino's. On the second night we were there our next door neighbors were having a party righ outside our door at about three in the morning which I know I could have called the office but I was to tired and just let it go .
