Hotell som er gammel og med sjel, veldig god servic og beliggenhet. alikevel prøver jeg et annet nyere hotell neste gang jeg drar til Edinburg selv om dette hottellet kan absolutt anbefales.

Fikk først et rom ut mot bussgaten som var umulig å sove grunnet ekstremt dårlig støyisolering. Ble flyttet til annet rom mot bakgården. Her var det rolig men dobbeltsengen på 145 cm!! er for spesielt interesserte.... 15 centimeter bredere seng hadde vært nedbetalt på en natt! Bra beliggenhet. Hyggelige ansatte. Frokosten er bra - men manuell bestilling […] av varm mat gjør at det tar lang tid. Frokosten er den dyreste jeg har spist - men hvem orker vel å gå gatelangs på leting etter mat om morgenen for å spare penger? Les mer

Noen dagers ferie i den skotske hovedstaden for slitne småbarnsforeldre. Dette hotellet har en særs god beliggenhet, gåavstand til handlegatene Princess Street og George Street. Lothian Road også nært. Selve hotellet ligger i Charlotte Street og holder en god standard. Jevnt over hyggelige ansatte og innbydende fasiliteter. Svømmebassenget var et viktig […] trekkplaster for oss, men litt skuffende at det var ute av drift deler av oppholdet. Rommene er fine, mem noe sjaber kvalitet her og der. (kraner som såvidt satt fast og delvis ikke-fungerende tv. Men spesielt det siste var uansett ikke noe vi brukte.) God frokost med fin service hele veien. Hotellet anbefales. Les mer

Min 11-åring og jeg hadde bestemt oss for høstferie i Edinburgh og lette etter et hotell som oppfylte 4 kriterier: Svømmebasseng, sentral beliggenhet, middels pris og grei standard. Jeg må si at MacDonalds Roxburghe Hotel oversteg våre forventninger. Prisen var innenfor vårt budsjett og det så fint ut på bildene, men erfaring tilsier at virkeligheten […] ikke er fullt så flott. Vi ble gledelig overrasket. Dette er et elegant hotell med hyggelig, profesjonell betjening. Frokost var ikke inkludert, så tanken var å teste hotellfrokost den første dagen og så velge andre alternativer om vi ikke var fornøyd. Igjen ble vi gledelig overrasket og ønsket ikke å spise frokost noe annet sted. Fin frokostbuffèt med brød, pålegg, frokostblandinger, fersk frukt, yoghurt og ferskpresset juice. Hyggelige frokostverter kom med tilbud om kaffe, te og toast. Egg og Bacon var ekstratilbud og ble servert på bestilling. Den ene dagen vi valgte det ble vi så mette at vi ikke trengte mat igjen før til middag ;-) Oppdekningen på bordene, med klassisk servise og tilbehør bidro til luksusfølelsen. Vi storkoste oss de 4 døgnene vi bodde her. Med en 11-åring som reisefølge er det ikke natteliv som står på menyen, og det var supert at hotellrommet, betjeningen og omgivelsene var så hyggelige at vi ønsket å tilbringe kveldene der. Vi var en time eller to i bassenget hver kveld. Det er romslig og barnevennlig, med samme dybde hele veien - 1,20 m. Badstuen og dampbadet har vindu ut mot bassenget, så mor kunne sitte der og nyte varmen og samtidig holde et øye med poden. Det var en stor kasse med badeeffekter som alle kunne bruke. Les mer

Veldig greit hotell,sentralt i Edinburgh. Hyggelig personale. Men et stort aber med oppholdet : Heisen sluttet å virke den andre dagen av vårt opphold, og var ute av drift resten av den tiden vi var der ( oppholdet vårt var 4 netter, og 3 av disse var heisen ute av drift. Det var kjedelig, når vi bodde i 5. etasje (norsk 6. etasje ). Slikt skulle ikke […] skje ! Mulig det ikke lot seg ordne, fordi det var påske, vanskelig å få tak i reperatører etc , men allikevel.... Hotellet er meget bra, men heisen var ute av drift hele oppholdet

Dette hotellet var helt fantastisk. Service er utover det ordinær. Stabben er vennlig og behjelpelig med alt fra det minste til det største. Rommet var koselig, ren og komfortabel. I tillegg er hotellets beliggenhet sentralt som er en kjempe fordel. På min neste tur til Edinburgh, skal jeg definitivt booke rom der.

Check was fair the room provided was too small to fit two people and luggage . The room provided after a complaint was much better . My husband fell over at the entry door step and injured himself the staff laughed it off . The were several others who fell on the step and it is tough luck because of a heritage listing . This spoiled our stay . The staff […] seem to have to work to a poor policy and are not relaxed or happy .There is no comparison to the George hotel or the APEX wgere gusets are made to feel special and relaxed with friendly service . perfect location, very nice and useful staff, very nice and comfortable room. a bit noisy if room on the main street. perfect place to stay in Edinburgh.

A one night stay for my anniversary and this hotel did not disappoint. We were given a free upgrade to an executive suite on arrival. The room was fab and the bed enormous. The hotels pool and sauna were nice and the breakfast lovely. Only downside was the price of the drinks at the bar, even if you do get free nibbles!

At a recent stay I managed to misplace my handbag. As soon as I realised Gavin was on the case and was extremely tenatious until it was found. As a result I would not wish to stay anywhere else whilst in Edinburgh in business.

Perfect location and I would recommend it any time. Parts of the hotel seems to have recently been doe up and some parts felt a little dated. The gym and pool area needs a bit of a face lift. The breakfast restaurant looks slightly dated but the food and service is excellent!

Having booked this hotel for our honeymoon, I was really looking forward to staying somewhere a little more expensive than we could usually afford. Given the stress of organising a wedding, I was also looking forward to making use of the spa facilities, which were to be a surprise for my new wife. After a long drive to reach Edinburgh, we then took […] an hour to actually find our way to the car park. The hotel is situated on a busy road, in a one-way system. Having been given some directions by a police office, when parked just 50 yards in front of the hotel, the one-way system then took us completely past and away from it. We had to negotiate our way back to where we'd started before walking in to the hotel to ask how to get to their car park. A frustrating start. The room itself was fine. My main complaint is with the attached spa facilities. Some friends had bought us vouchers to use at the hotel, but when we enquired into booking a session, we were told it was fully booked until Sunday (this being Thursday morning). The spa was the main reason I had booked this hotel. It was a honeymoon surprise. Has it not occurred to the management of the hotel that guests might arrive, see there are spa facilities and then choose to make use of them? Was I supposed to realise that I needed to book treatments months in advance? I found out, afterwards, that some family members had tried to arrange a spa package for us two months before our arrival, but had so much trouble getting through to the right place that in the end they gave up, worried that even if they got something booked, they had no confidence it would actually happen. With the room pre-paid, we had no alternative but to use our gift vouchers on a meal in the hotel, which we didn't really want to do as there were so many places in Edinburgh we'd had recommended. very attentive staff, both when the hotel was full (six nations rugby weekend) and on the Monday morning when it was almost empty. Staff went out of their way to ensure I had everything I wanted, without being obtrusive.

Four day stay in january. Very nice hotel, friendly staff and comfortable rooms. The only thing which needed improvement was the hotel breakfast. Not sure what the standard is for similar hotels, but I reccomend that you just skip the breakfast and eat out. Apart from that, all good!

We arrived directly from the airport after taking the bus in the rain and were greeted kindly by Lester. He was charming and immediately took our wet bags as we checked in. Because we had pre-paid for our room on Hotels.com, the process was very quick. They did offer an add-on breakfast for 10 pounds (I think it was) daily if we pre-paid or 15 pounds […] if we wanted to pay each day. We opted not to dine at the hotel and instead chose to grab breakfast on the go through Edinburgh. Lester was waiting at our room with our bags, gave us a quick run down of how the heater and heated towel rack worked, and then was off. He returned with 2 robes and sets of slippers. I am not sure if that is part of the usual routine at this hotel or if it was because I gave him 4 or 5 pounds for bringing up our baggage. I understand that in the UK, tipping is not as prevalent as in the US. I felt odd not tipping while I was traveling, so I did it anyhow. Everyone, including cab drivers, seemed very grateful. I didn't get the impression that I was insulting anyone, so I kept doing it. I loved that our room had a decent selection of tea and some shortbread in the room. Having a warm cup of tea was comforting after being in the rain. The only slight complaint I might have about our room is that the window faced Rose St (a small alleyway type area) behind the hotel and at night, the noise did carry into our room. It wasn't often enough to be a nuisance, just enough to notice. We checked in on January1st. I'm not certain if there were more or less people out and about because of the holidays since I have never been to Scotland, I'm sure though that some of the noise is normal for people leaving the pubs down that street. Everything seemed walkable from our hotel. We tackled the castle and the Royal Mile along with some shopping. Comparing London, Edinburgh, and Dublin, Edinburgh was our favorite. Highly recommend this hotel to anyone who wants the centre of Edinburgh. We enjoyed our stay and were very impressed by the all staff especially the Reception staff. Room Service for food was a bit expensive however there is no shortage of restaurants on your doorstep. It was our first stay there and will be at the top of our preferred hotels in Ed […] inburgh. Very helpful staff when we needed to move rooms. I would suggest requesting a room over looking Charlotte Sq as they have much more character and many more original features. We had a lovely room and a huge big bathroom. Had breakfast on 2 days which could not be faulted. Huge selection of cooked and cold foods. They even had skimmed milk, which you […] often don't find in smaller hotels. Gym, pool and sauna are adequate. DISAPPOINTED WITH ROOM. IN OLD BLOCK VERY SMALL WITH ONLY ROOFLIGHTS (NOT WINDOWS)

Beautiful square, very friendly staff, comfortable room. Would recommend.

I've never seen so many things go wrong. None of them catastrophic, but all indicative of a lack of management and customer service. Had to queue not just to get into the breakfast room, but to get breakfast. TV system went out at one point, hot water at another. An OK spa had no swimsuit spinners or heart rate monitors. And I ended up standing out […] on the street in a robe and slippers (in December) because of a fire alarm, with not a single member of staff asking me if I was OK. Management were vaguely apologetic about this when we complained, but no more than that. Oh, and no-one put bills under the doors through the night, so there were enormous queues at checkout. The hotel itself is very nice, and not the problem. But the staff are just not trained in customer service and were very complacent. Real shame. Don't choose this hotel if you're looking for a real 4* experience: you'll get a 3* experience in 4* surroundings. Les mer

The hotel is conveniantly located near Princess, Rose and George streets that all have shopping possibilities. It's not far from the old town wither, even though you have to climb a bit to get there. The hotel in itself is a bit run down and the piping is not really working. The toilet was hard to flush (3 out of 4 times it didn't work) and in the early […] hours of the morning the pipes started to make noise. Just excellent.

Excellent location but, hotel maintenance very poor. Electrics kept "tripping" in my room and whilst I was promised another room, this failed to materialise. The Hotel in general is in need of some upgrade and I will seek alternative locations when next staying in Edinburgh.

Our stay didn't get off to a very good start when we arrived at the hotel to find the lobby and lounge was being refurbished, and then checked in but nearly got charged again for our 2 night stay which we prepaid through hotels.com! The room itself was lovely, spacious and clean, but we were on the top floor in a room with skylight style windows so […] didn't get to enjoy a view. Despite this the bed was huge and very comfortable. But with the refurbishment going on we decided to eat meals out in Edinburgh rather than at the hotel so can't comment on the food. Before leaving I enjoyed a half hour back and shoulder massage followed by a half hour facial at the hotel's health club at a great deal, which I can recommend! Les mer

A relaxed two night stay!

An easy flat walk from the train station. Convenient to most sites and shopping. Haven away from the bustle of the city. Relaxing, comfortable and good quality

The staff was amazingly helpful and nice. The hotel is beautiful as is the surrounding neighborhood. The bed was a little sad but overall this hotel is highly recommended.

I booked the Hotel for my mum and dad as a surprise for my mum's 50th birthday. They found the hotel pleasant and clean with an OK size room. They found the location was good. However, parking was pricey and a walk away as they had no space, breakfast cost £31.00!! And I ordered a bottle of champagne and chocolates to the room on their arrival, which […] came but then they tried to charge them at the end when I had already paid for it. It wasn't very nice and embarrassing for them finally the receptionist realised but by this point my parents had already seen the costs. Les mer

The staff were generally very polite and helpful although there were a one or two who were a bit grumpy and not overly welcoming. Our room was clean and comfortable and had all the facilities I would expect. Our booking did not include breakfast and I would suggest to other guests who find that they have made a booking that does not include breakfast […] to head around the corner to Weatherspoons, who offer breakfast from 7am I believe. Although there was nothing wrong with the quality of breakfast provided it was certainly not value for money when the same can be provided for half the price next door. The Roxburgh is a top class hotel conveniently situated for the shops and tourist locations in Edinburgh. Transport links are nearby. The service was excellent. Breakfast was very good with a wide choice of food available. The evening meal we had one evening was good value, tasty and well presented. Nice hotel, staff were very friendly and helpful. Good location for seeing all the sights. Lovely breakfast available. Also, it doesnt really mention it on the website but there is a nice pool in the hotel. The only drawback was that we were staying in a room facing the square and as a result could hear alot of traffic noise. If you are planning lie […] - ind I'd bring ear plugs. Les mer

The hotel location is excellent for seeing the sights. We arrived on a Sunday and with a little perseverance managed to find on-street parking nearby. Check-in was swift and efficient, and the room was compact but comfortable. Small quibble that the in-room info said Sky Sports was available on the TV, but turned out it's only in the bar! We used the […] pool, sauna and steam-room, which were enjoyable, if a little hard to find on the first visit. The staff were friendly and helpful. We didn't eat in the hotel, and to be honest we felt that breakfast should have been included for the price we paid. Les mer

Our stay at the Roxburghe was very disappointing. Both nights we were kept awake with noise from the large weddings / parties in the hotel. We weren't told that these events were happening when we checked in and the hotel staff, when asked, were not completely honest about these details, either. The noise was ridiculous. We couldn't hear our TV over […] the music in our own room. The second night they moved us to another room at 1:30am, but we could still hear the noise. The lack of consideration for guests was very disappointing. We know that hotels need the income from these special events, but it shouldn't impact the quality of the stay for other guests. Generally the cleanliness of the hotel wasn't up to standard, either. Time to get rid of the mold and make sure the rooms are well-cleaned. Unfortunately, I wouldn't stay here again and was very disappointed we paid as much as we did. There are far better hotels in Edinburgh. Les mer

Very close to all exciting things to see in Edinburgh, it's definitely a very good place for short stays. Many sightseeing coaches can pick you up at the hotel, for many different destinations across scotland. Really very convenient. Don't forget though to put the sign "Do not disturb" on your door if you plan to wake up after 9am... The cleaners were […] very early to knock at my door in the morning... The staff is nice and friendly, and the hotel is very clean. Will definitely come back. Les mer

Excellent location, although getting there can be slightly difficult as the address is actually Charlotte Square! The hotel is comfortable and the staff were extremely polite and approachable. We weren't particularly happy with our executive room which looked identical to a standardl double. Quite annoying as this was a romantic getaway. The hotel was wonderful but with the construction and the limitations of the historic district the hotel was difficult to get to and identify as a hotel. There was only a small gold plaque to indentify the hotel and there was no place to pull in with a car. The traffic around the front of the hotel did not allow for pulling over to check in. The hotel […] parking garage was down an ally that was not marked, but there was on site parking for an additional cost. The staff was great and the rooms were clean and comfortable. Les mer
