We stayed at Montana de Fuego 12 years ago on our first trip to Costa Rica and loved it so much, we wanted to come back. Our cabin had a balcony that overlooked the rain forest with a view for miles.. Beautiful and serene. They've expanded and upgraded but it still has the same friendly atmosphere. All the staff were so sweet and accomodating, and extra […] appreciation to the restaurant staff.. The new natural hot spring pools were wonderful, and no extra charge! The grounds were beautiful.The cabins had nice glassed in porches. Loved the mineral pools, flowers and bar area. Upon waking we had a perfect view of Arenal Volcano. It is a rainforest so there is a lot of moisture thus some musty smells at times.The full breakfast included,was delicious, with very attentive staff in a dinning room with a ceiling to […] floor glass wall facing Arenal Volcano. This hotel is in a beautiful location, the volcano views from our bungalow and the dining room were spectacular, and the gardens, thermal pools and spa area are lovely. However our bungalow was very tired and in need of updating. Bed linens were thin and one sheet had a small hole, lighting was very poor, no lights anywhere near the bed for reading, […] little space to put clothes ie shelves or hangers, plumbing didn't work well, window pane missing on the porch. One day our dirty coffee cups and glasses were not changed. Check in was not pleasant, you felt as if they were doing you a favour and it was stressed that if you lose anything ie your towel voucher or safe key you will be charged accordingly. To top it off, we asked to stay an extra 30 minutes on our last day and were refused! We are not accustomed to being treated this way (we are two senior ladies) and it did not leave a pleasant impression. Dining room staff was very polite and efficient, and food was generally good, apart from some very tough beef. There are many other excellent hotels in the area, where you will be treated as a valued guest and not someone who is likely to steal the towels at first opportunity! And Costa Rica is a beautiful country with lovely people! Les mer

Overall we were very pleased with this stay. The grounds were beautiful, the individual cabins made it seems even more special, and we woke up to the sounds of tropical birds every morning. Hot springs on site were really enjoyable. Only complaint is that some members of staff were a bit 'snooty' and the restaurant is way overpriced for the food for […] lunch and dinner. But the breakfast buffet was fantastic! The quoted cab fare into La Fortuna including the 'convenience fee' for the resort to set it up (which was not optional) was high compared to what we encountered in other towns. This hotel was awful. We thought we were staying at a nice spa like hotel. Instead we got a hotel that was very low end. The beds are horrible - a mattress on a wooden slats, ac that did not cool the room, and never enough towels. The "thermal pools" close at 6pm and are not even hot. Our electronic keypad did not work - so we were given a single key. […] Of course we got locked out and it took 35 minutes to get back into the room. The first night there we only had 2 towels for 4 people. The second day after our room was cleaned - we had no towels - and it took 45 minutes to bring us towels. Les mer

If you wanna spend romantic days with your couples this is a perfect getaway. If you are going with some friends I'll recommend you to look up for another hotel.

Beautiful location, exceptional grounds, full service resort. During the low "rainy" season, the fog covers the volcano so we couldn't see what we came to see, however, we were advised in advance which we appreciated. The lake is beautiful any time of year, but then, we like mountainous lake/river scenery. While we didn't see a lot of families here, […] there are tons of things to do in the area that would cater to families. Essentially, we found young couples and then also retiree couples during the low season. Oh, by far, make sure you do the ziplining adventure with Montana De La Fuego...we had a blast! Nine lines, and you can add rappelling and horseback riding to your zip tour--amazing!!! Loved it! Good restaurant, albiet expensive. Food was very good. Les mer

This hotel was very comfortable with nice roomy villas and a great view of Arenal volcano. The staff was extremely helpful with any thing we needed. Breakfast was great with ample selections. We booked a tour through the hotel (even though we were told to book in town by travel sites) and we had a private guide, Christian who was so knowlegeable and […] fun, we were glad we booked there! I stayed at Montagna de Fuego three years ago and I was happy to see the hotel was kept up nicely and still in the same condition. The charming cabin like rooms are not fancy but they are nice, you will still have your amenities such as mini bar and air conditioning. Most cabins have a little front porch area with rocking chairs, nice for reading. You […] will have access to the pool and hot tub inside the spa for no extra charge. The hotel restaurant was good and breakfast is included. The best part of the hotel is the spectacular view of the volcano right from your room. The staff there is excellent and helped us set up some great tours as well as book transportation to other parts of Costa Rica. I had a great stay here. There was no noise except for birds and an occasional howler monkey. Les mer

This is not a bad site, the place certainly would need a real good refresh. The food provided is correct but expensive if you compare with other small hotels we found very close like the Nayara and meals are absolutely delicious and cheaper. Everyone at this hotel made the stay great! We were also upgraded to a great suite with jacuzzi - which seemed like it would be great, and it mostly was - but the jacuzzi is also the shower and the lack of curtain made for a bit of flooding each time we showered. Fine accomodations, except being locked out of our room for over an hour as the door lock failed. I would have appreciated any type of compensation but was not offered. Hotel was relatively cheap in the area. Our room backed up to the busy street.

Beautiful, quiet hotel and spa at the Arenal foothills. Each room is very clean, comfortable. The staff is friendly and very helpful. All bilingual. The spa is remarkable! One of the best massages I have ever had and spa treatments. All activities in easy distance to the hotel

This place was terrible. Air conditioner didn't work - had to get it worked on, no towels in the room - had to repeatedly ask until they brought some. Batteries dead in the remote control - same thing had to keep asking before someone brought some.

The grounds were gorgeous. The rooms were spacious, rustic and charming. The bathrooms were modern and relatively large. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They upgraded us to a junior suite without us asking. The view of the volcano for the room and specifically from the hot tub was amazing. It's a great place to stay overall. But they do have […] a few issues. Our safe had dead batteries. We called 3 times to get new ones. Never got them. The sheets on both beds had stains! They were obviously washed and had not come out. We were very pleased with this hotel and staff could not have been more helpful. Breakfast well prepared as were other meals. Location is out of the hectic life and crowds of the town yet easy to come and go from to area attractions. Would highly recommend this hotel.

Simple cabin with a nice porch. The place would benefit from screens for the porch and windows that open into the rooms. The towels are worn with holes, but otherwise clean functional. They have a great breakfast, a great view of the volcano, and are 5-10 minutes from town, stores, restaurants, and the national park. Really good location. Parking around […] the loop can be tight and the room furnishings are simple and rustic if not a bit tired, but it is a good place to stay at the right price. If you're interested in a covered porch with some car playing, or maybe a little reading, a bottle of wine, or a cigar with views of the volcano, this is probably the right place. If you want to stay in town, try Las Colinas. We loved it, and got a room with a hot tub for about the same price. Les mer

This hotel and spa is just wonderful and exciting! The hotel was amazingly beautiful and the views of the volcano were breathtaking. The restaurant and spa were reasonably priced and both great. The hotel is a short drive from La Fortuna (but that is why the views are so great), so in order to visit the town, you either have to rent a car or use the taxi service which begins to add up, but the hotel […] is able to arrange tours and taxis, which still makes it convenient enough. Fabulous all round. The individual cabana rooms (we were offered an upgrade to a suite free of charge but found the cabanas a lot nicer) with increadible views over the valley from the back and to the Arenal volcano to the front. The pool, the gardens, the spa, the excellent organisation of all the outings (canopy wire, horseback, hiking), the a la […] carte menu was OK, the breakfast plentiful and good. The staff at this hotel was very friendly and very happy to answer any of my questions. I recommend the Deluxe rooms for a great view at a very moderate price. The Jr Suites are beautiful, but the view is not as beautiful.

Great views from your room. Enjoy a delicious breakfast and even better views of the volcano. Great place to stay and very close to Springs Resort and Spa where you can enjoy use of their faciities for two days for only $40 per person.

The individual cabins are very quaint, beautiful views from each direction, attentive staff, however, the beds are very hard, difficulty sleeping, the sheets are spotted and we had to spray for moths, lots of them.

As always, this place is beautiful and great location with best view of volcano. Room near the road was a little noisy, but not a big issue. We've stayed in 3 different types of rooms and all were great. The pool, spa and setting are relaxing. My wife insists that we stay an extra day or two just to lounge around the pool and grounds. Breakfast in the […] resturaunt was very good and the view can't be beat. We just returned to the states on June 2, 2011, and can't wait to return next year. Weather was nice and cool. I loved the location and service at this hotel. The people were very nice and the food was awesome. Having your own little house was different and fun. The only problem we had was that it was inhabited by geckos which left their little poop on our bedspreads!!!

This hotel is really nice- the little cabins are very comfortable and the patios are great for sitting outside looking at the volcano. We saw lava shoot out of the top of the volcano at night! It also rumbled and let off some gases. Very cool! The zip line and rapel canopy tour with horseback riding were pretty awesome, too. it was a wonderful experience, the front desk people were very nice, the security guards were helpful, the whole trip was a blast, we were able to see 2 eruptions of arenal volcano, what a spectacular view. Love the access to see the volcano craters, we saw also the blue river 2 hours away, it was worth each minute hiking in mud and to see this clear […] river turned blue turquoise right there was the best, we recommend 200% plus.
