SW HOTEL - San Francisco

This was my first time using Hotels.com, I was surprised when I checked out, and the bill was $20 higher because of the taxes.

I really loved this hotel. The location is great, you are within walking distance to almost anything you could want to do in San Francisco, not to mention the Itallian food is fantastic in Little Italy. The staff is friendly and helpful and they serve a basic continental breakfast every morning. The only downsides to the hotel are that the room was […] VERY small. We didn't spend much time in the room so this was not a huge deal for us. Also, we were not aware that we had to pay $30 a night for parking in their underground garage. I thought that price was a little bit steep when we were not aware of it. I would definitely stay at this hotel again. Les mer

My wife and I needed a place to stay in the area our event was happening. So we looked for something semi last minute for decent price and it was. We were one block away from our party. The hotel front desk staff were very helpfull and kind. The room is what was expected small but cozy. Was very impressed with the staff and the hotel overall. The room is basically a bed and bathroom, but that is all I needed.

Great location - in between chinatown and north beach. Staff all friendly and very helpful. Definitely recommend.

The pictures of this hotel are deceiving. The room was tiny despite being labelled as "deluxe". Location is ok as It is on the border of North Beach which is good for bars and restaurants but one wrong turn and you are in the middle of the red light district. Right location, right price. On intersection of China Town, North Beach, and risque gentleman's clubs. Great for the basics. Don't expect much more.

This Hotel is in a great location walking distance to Chinatown and North Beach, you could even walk to Union Square and Fishermans Warf. Hotel is clean and staff is friendly. The price is great for being in the heart of the city. We would definately stay again and recomend this Hotel.

I had to change my room in the middle of the night because of all the traffice and street noise. do not stay in the outside rooms. Request and inside room. I moved from a 2 bed to a one bed.

I wasn't quite sure what to expect as we approached the area, but we were very happy with our choice. The surrounding area is very old school, with a lot of store front grocery shopping by the locals. We had a corner room on the top floor with a great night time view of all the neon signs. It is not quiet by any means. The hotel is at the edge of Chinatown […] and Little Italy. We did end up walking to Pier 39 and to BART station. It was a bit of a walk, but enjoyable. Cab ride to either was between $6-8 depending on the time of day. We had a great time at Vesuvios Cafe and ate a couple of times at North Beach Pizza right across the streeet. I have been to SF many times but never stayed in this area. I would definitely stay again. I am not sure it is a great family location but definitely great for night life. It felt like we stepped back in time a bit. The hotel is old, but recently remodelled and is one of the cleanest hotels I have ever stayed in. The beds were comfortable. The service was great. The front desk personnel were helpful and always had a nice smile and friendly greeting. The breakfast is not anything to write home about, but will do for a quick pick me up. It mainly consist of toast or cold cereal, juice and coffee. In comparison to the pricing of SF hotels, I felt this hotel was a good deal. Les mer

I was looking for a reasonably priced hotel room in San Francisco for a long weekend for me and my mom. I really lucked out with the Sam Wong Hotel (did not realize that was the real name until I got there). The staff was very friendly and helpful - they printed out alcatraz passes for me at no charge, and gave good advice on tour buses. The room was […] small but clean and fairly comfortable (not the best bed, and we needed an extra blanket). I didn't realize that a continental breakfast was included, so that was a nice surprise. The best part about the place was the location. It is on the border of China town and Little Italy (North Beach). Sooooo many good restaurants in the area - I recommend reservations for many though. There was a comedy club down the street several blocks that we walked to and saw a great show with David Allen Grier. It was a pleasant 20 minute walk downhill to the BART station (although I got a taxi for the way back), as well as a nice walk to the Ferry building, and a long but pleasant walk to Fisherman's wharf. Having a car would be difficult, but without one this was a great place. I would definitely stay here again!! Les mer

Tiny but clean rooms. On edge of Chinatown, wish windows were insulated as can be very noisy outside. Friendly staff. OK if all you are seeking in a hotel is a bed to sleep in.

Stone's throw to North Beach area with great restaurants and an easy walk to Union Square. Has a private, secure garage underneath hotel but is very small so need to check-in early to ensure a spot.

This hotel was perfect for what I needed. Stayed one night - the room was clean and comfy. Surroundings (neighborhood and other hotel guests) were a little loud (if you are a light sleeper maybe bring ear plugs). Near North Beach which is a great neighborhood and Union Square is within a mile. Would stay there again!

The location was perfect and close to all the sights u would want to see. Also close to tons of delicious restaurants. Hotel was clean, comfortable and very reasonably priced.

The hotel is located is a so-so area but since we had a car rental it was no big deal. Strip bars located pretty near on the same street but police all over. Pier 39 is very close though and this hotel is close to other locations like little Italy and Chinatown. Not a place you want to stay at if you plan to walk around at night. If you have a car its […] doable. Parking under ground is tight but plenty I think it was $28 per night. Rooms are okay and quiet, service is friendly, and overall I would stay again for the price. Don't expect the highend hotel but not a low end place. Stay there if you can get past the strip bars down the street and onto other places. Les mer

The hotel is very conveniently located next to North Beach; only a short stumble back from a plethora of bars and adult clubs. Our room was very clean. I even commented to my boyfriend about how nice and clean the room smelled. My ONLY complaint is the outrageous price of parking for only one night! I think it's kind of lame that they gouge you for […] parking when you're already paying to stay at the hotel. I've stayed at other comparable hotels and the parking was free. Les mer

Coming from Singapore it was nice to find a room which was small with fully functional bathroom attached clean and with Asian flavor design at that price. Breakfast was simple but good for the European I am. If people have negative review on this hotel I guess it's because they expect Marriott or hyat quality everywhere they go so as I say good value […] for the price they ask. Maybe noise around is the negative point but that's quite a minimal thing Les mer

Great location, went for a wedding, my gf and I liked the hotel, cute, small and quaint. With a lot of fun nightlife with a few minutes walk.

Small room, but the location was perfect. Just a stone's through from Little Italy and a short easy walk to fisherman's warf. The immediate area is China Town but the room was quite at night. Parking at the hotel was easy enough after finding out where to park (and only 28.50 a day).

It's a hotel very good located for tourism. Great balance between quality and price. The most important for me: the cleanliness (fear of bedbugs...), and it's perfect in this aspect. About the staff: they were always helpful.

SW is mediocre at best - the location isn't great unless you want to be in china town for some reason, the rooms aren't anything special, service is so-so and amenities aren't anything to write home about. It's a decent enough place to spend a few nights on the cheap, but I don't recommend it to business or vacation travelers.

After reading the reviews online (tripadvisor.com, hotels.com, etc), I was a little leary about reserving a room at this place. Boy, am I so glad I did! Check-in was a breeze; on-site parking is comparitivly inexpensive and excellent; and though it IS located down the street from the redlight district/strip clubs, it's also walking distance to a slew […] of great eateries, hip clubs, and fun venues! Located smackdab between Chinatown and North Beach (Little Italy), there were SO many fun things to see, do, and experience all w/in walking distance from our room! Saved so much time and $ instead of staying at a higher-end, distant establishment and taking the taxi all over the city. The hotel and room were uber clean, frontdesk service was quick and easy, and they even provide a decent continental breakfast. Because I reserved online, I inadvertantly selected a 'double' room. When I checked in @ 4p, I asked to get a 'queen' room on the back/quieter side of the hotel for which I would gladly pay. The clerk cheerfully accomodated my request free of charge. Nice. Though the room was on the smaller side and the TV/bedside radio were somewhat dated, it was also very clean with a nice comfy bed (not too hard; not too soft; not squeaky, etc). The shower was also excellent with good pressure and heat. They don't provide an in-room coffee maker or an in-room refrigerator, but they do provide the standard wall-mounted hair dryer and off-brand mini shampoo, conditioner, and lotion. The towels were whispy-thin and the blinds didn't seal all the way when turned, but blocked out enough light/view into the room. Having stayed at at a variety of places before - from Motel 6's to B&B's to Hyatts/Sheratons/Westins to the Omni (in SF) - I can honestly say I'd recommend this hotel without reservation. Les mer

Rooms were small and mediocre in general. Room was VERY noisy and my room was on the opposite side of the street even! Could hear noises from surrounding rooms pretty loudly. You could hear outside noise as well as anyone on the hall opening/closing their door. The surrounding area is not pleasant. Lots of strip clubs, adult video stores, etc. like […] a block away. The rate is cheaper than other hotels in the area, but there is a reason for it. Les mer

Enjoyed our stay. Good location, close to North Beach restaurants and jazz clubs. Room was clean and comfortable. Continental breakfast was minimalist, but adequate to get you started for the day. We had a room that faced into a blank wall, so we had no view, but a blissfully quiet night. Our friends weren't so lucky - they were kept awake all night […] by street noise.
