Bed uncomfortable, rooms very small, and maid service never cleaned our room
"Quiet Bungalows on the Atlantic Side Florida Keys"
We wanted a quiet, uncomplicated vacation with a few amenities and never a need to get dressed up. We found it at the Islander Resort. Our room had free internet, a small kitchen and table and a King Bed. We brought in a roll-away for teenager (the hotel staff could have charged us $25 / night for it but they comped it without our even asking!). The […] room walked out via sliding glass doors into a small screened in porch where I did my morning business-related stuff on the free internet over the coffee I'd brewed in the little kitchen. We'd then head down to the community room and grab a bagel or cereal (free breakfast included - nothing fancy but, hey, it was free and held us over until lunch). One day we walked across the road to Loraeigh's and had eggs and potatoes sitting outside on the deck there (cheap and tasty). There were little shops to walk to and a 5 star resort next door that we walked through without anyone stopping us (there is a spa there too). But mostly we just stayed at the Islander where we ate regularly at the one onsite restaurant (the Blue Tiki) -- which had EXCELLENT food for lunch and dinner and reasonable prices for the area. There were 3 pools and a hot tub, plus the "beach" which looks out onto the Atlantic side of the Keys (really lovely too look at). Lots of hammocks and reading areas. Lots of fisher-vacationers going out on day trips and bringing their fresh catch in to have the staff grill at the Blue Tiki. It was mostly families and some young adults on their own for spring break (they did tend to use fowl language and start drinking at noon though so as the Islander got closer to the height of spring break time we tended to not be as comfortable sitting by the pool due to the college kid's bad manners). The one thing I was a little disappointed in was that it was not really conducive to getting into the ocean for swimming/snorkeling. We did take a Hobbie Cat (small sail boat) out for an hour and that was nice (and only $50, a grea Les mer

Price of 3 day stay could have bought a quiet AC.
"Islander Hotel - Island living at its best"
We really enjoyed our stay at the Islander. You are able to walk to great restaurants and shopping. You really don't need a car if you just want to relax. This was our second visit and we will stay again.
"Retro beach resort"
Reminded us of beach stays long ago, liked the feel of resort, laid back, food reasonable, good beach, pools, not a fancy place to stay, but we were not looking for that.

"Islander Resort Islamorada, Florida"
At first I didn't like the style of this resort. Dated, almost like out of the Jetson's. A friend reminded me of it's charm in a retro way. I instantly changed my mind and I enjoyed the atmosphere. Great ocean front beach, pools and the restaurant is fantastic. Go see Verne at the bar. The food is top shelf, great menu and a nice place to sit whether […] it's chilly or windy outside. Location is basically exactly half way down the keys. A nice stopping place from Miami or Lauderdale. Overall, a nice place, retro, but lots of people were doing exactly what they came there for. Having fun. I'll return again and again. If you're a stuffed shirt, skip the Islander Resort. If you like fantastic food, killer views, great location, friendly people and feel like you're in the Jetson's home, then go for it. Les mer
"Convenient"
Although a bit dated, the Islander Resort was convenient in town, on the beach, quiet, clean.
"islander hotel florida keys"
oceanfront motel---beautiful sunrise location--two bedroom unit with a screened in porch--very clean but could use a little updating--older plastic chairs inside and out need replacement---the back door entrance needs a potted plant or something to get out of the 1950 looks---still a great place but could be better!
"Loved it!"
My wife and I stayed here for the first time on New Year's Eve. We arrived early and, although our room wasn't ready, they alerted housekeeping that we were on the property and prioritized it. They gave us full access to everything while we waited as well. We rented a boat from the on-property watersports place and had an awesome time cruising the waters […] and snorkeling. When we did get to our room, it was perfect...nice size with full kitchenette and tons of closet/drawer space. We'd gladly stay there again and would love to bring the kids next time. Les mer
"VALUE PRICED"
We stayed here for our Anniversary last year, so we decided to book it again this year. The price isn't cheap, but it's the best value for the money on Islamorada, especially during one of the busiest weeks of the year there. The rooms are very basic (like a big Florida Room/Lanai Area), and are really designed for family vacations with easy to clean […] tile floors (to make sweeping up the beach sand easy on the maids), a large porch, a kitchenette, and a cieling fan. The TVs are lousy (old cathode ray tube types with not very many channels), but I think that's on purpose so it will force you to get outside and enjoy the beautiful beach, it's spectacular view of the ocean, and the great pool and beachfront bar. It was chilly the night we spent there, but they have a very nice hot tub to take the chill off. The staff was friendly. Of note, be careful if you use the room safe. It takes a 6 vice a 4 digit pin code and I buggered it up and had to call maintenance to come and unlock it. The instructions on using it were not user-friendly, so make sure you read them very carefully. Les mer
"in need of refurbishment"
Overpriced and rather drab looking hotel. It is 50 years old and feels like it.The smell from the toilet in the room and poor breakfast put me off this resort .It has nice pools and picturesque beach though.
This hotel is our big luxury when visiting The Keys. Although more expensive than other hotels it is well worth the stay to have this luxury for a couple of days. I would recommend it to anyone.
"Islander Resort in Islamorada - very affordable"
Nice staff, very friendly :) It's an OK place to sleep and take a shower.
"Island Getaway"
Just there for one night, it was great. WiFi was adequate. The campus was large and scenic. Nice outdoor bar near the pool and walkable dock. The only suggestion I could make is that the check-in process could be a little more streamlined. There was only room for about one and a half people to be handled at a time, a little awkward.
"The islander -a gem"
I recently stayed at the Islander and had a wonderful time. The beach was lovely, the pools refreshing, and the food at the bar was good and fresh. Loreli's across the street has fabulous sunsets-well worth a trip. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful.

"Islander Resort"
We loved this place! Our room was very clean and equipped with everything we needed. The pool and beach area were very nice. Beautiful view of the ocean. I was recommended to us and we were very impressed!
"Islander resort-Paradise!"
Our stay at The Islander was absolutely dreamy. The Florida Keys were a true paradise. The hotel was first class.
"great place to stay"
very peaceful on a nice beach - close to good restaurants-diving and an oceanview room is wonderful-
"The Islander Resort, Islamorada - A hidden gem"
We stayed at this hotel last year for three days after touring the east coast of the USA and fell in love with it. It has all you need for a quiet getaway with a wonderful restaurant that sells fantastic food with great service; two swimming pools and a hot tub: it's own private beach and quay where you can fish, snorkel and use the watersport facilities; […] self-contained apartments complete with kitchenette (with sink, refrigerator, microwave and cooker -should you want to cook at all). The staff are really helpful and friendly and although we had to check out by 11 am allowed us to use the swimming pool and grounds until we were ready to leave at 2.30 pm to catch our flight. We would recommend this little piece of paradise to everybody and cannot wait until we can go back again. Les mer
This is a great place to stay. It was clean, the staff was very friendly and helpful. I would recommend it and will be staying there again.
"Excellent!"
I’ll just keep it simple: Pros: 1) Family-friendly resort with laid back FL keys feeling & comfortable rooms. 2) Across the street is an excellent restaurant with live music and boat tours. 3) Private beach which didn’t get too crowded. (Be prepared to align yourself with the trees if you want any shade, or throw out some cash to rent their umbrellas) Cons: 1) […] The pools get too hot (89+) by mid-day (summer) and there aren’t umbrellas by the pool (unless you wish to pay and rent one from them). You definitely get the feeling they are milking the cow. 2) The pools are nice but rather small; it was more like hopping in a bath tub with a bunch of strangers. On both afternoons, it was literally nut to butt in the pool. 3) We were unable to book the sunset cruise on both days from the shack on the beach. On both days we were essentially blown off. The shack guy took my number and said he would call (both days) and never did. You get the feeling he doesn’t want to be there and could give a squat what you want. On the second day, I asked him if he thought the cruise would happen and instead he beat around the bush and said he had to work late. Uh? 4) The tikibar is okay, but be prepared to pay extra for the convenience (i.e.: (1) beer cost $6 and (5) coconut shrimp cost $15). Throw on your sandals and walk across the street, you’ll save yourself some money and get way more food/drink) Overall, it was a great stay. It had a very family-friendly orientation and I love how it had a camp grounds layout. Every room has a BBQ pit, screened-in porch (w/ ceiling fan), and cold A/C. Don’t get discouraged by the CONs, they were very minor (IMO) to an overall great stay. Les mer

"Great Family Vacation"
We had a great time. The staff were great and helped us with planning snorkeling, boating, and fishing trips. Great family atmosphere with hammocks, grills, and friendly neighbors. Can't beat the price for the accommodations with breakfasts included. We will return.
"Great Vacation Stay"
Near everything on Islamorada. Staff shothanded but very helpful. Casual setting and comfortable. Second visit to Islander and we would come back again.
"Islander Resort - Islamorada, Florida"
Resort was easily accessible to all we wanted to do. Could have been a little cleaner (floors), but overall very comfortable. When I go back, this is where i'm staying!
"The Islander - Best place to stay in Islamorada"
Again, The Islander provided us with an exceptional stay! Friendly staff and a really comfortable room. Love hanging on the beach and the food at the pool bar was really good (a little bit expensive, but worth it). We always stay at the Islander when we go to the Keys, would not stay anywhere else.
"Islander Hotel in Islamorada, FL"
Clean, comfortable rooms, great view and location. Be sure to ask about "pet friendly" when making reservation. Clerk was rude when we told her we had a pet and non-refundable depost was MUCH higher then other hotels in this caliber. Not all their rooms were pet friendly and ours was not but not sure why. It was next to the pet walking area, all tile […] floor, nothing a dog could do to it. Les mer
"Islander Resort - Excellent location"
Very clean and well maintained.
"Very average"
The room itself was fine. Spacious and reasonably clean. My husband and I very much enjoyed the kitchen facilities and the screened in porch. The beach (I use this term loosely) needed more sand. But it was later explained that there are very few "real beaches" on the Keys . It would have been nice if the resort included beach umbrellas instead of […] making the guest pay for them. This seems like it should be part of the beach experience. Also the beach was fairly crowded and noisy due to it not being a private beach for just the paid guests. There were a fair amount of local beach goers using the facilities. Overall, I would not stay here again. Les mer
"Expensive...Not a 4-Star Resort"
Nice pool area, good location and the workers were friendly but not what we expected for the money. The resort is older and in our opinion not a 4 or 5 star resort, maybe a 3 star. We will not stay there again in the future. We did like the pool but concerned that locals (non-guest) are able to use the pool and Tiki Bar area without being a paying guest. […] Several non-guest at the pool area confirmed our curiosity. Regarding the beach, it would be a fantastic beach area if it had more sand plus less bolders between the beach and water. There are only a few small areas for direct entry into the Ocean unless you climb over all the large bolders up and down the beach. However, the resort is in a great location and near some nice outdoor restaurants/bars for great sunset views on the Bay side. We would recommend MM 88 Restaurant, great food , music and more upscale. Across from Islander Resort, visit Lorel Lie for some drinks and a great view of the sunset plus outdoor music, very casual venue. The last spot we would recommend is Islamorada Fish Company just down the street from the Resort, on the Bay side. Good food, music and a good view of the sunset. We would visit Islamorada again but most likely try a different 4 or 5 star Resort. We loved our visit to the Keys especially Key West, stayed at The Reach...awesome Resort! Les mer
"Wiked Gnarley Bro!!"
This place is really awesome, it has a great keys feel to it, kinda pricey but you definatley get what you pay for, each room has a private balcony with it, and it's right on the ocean (east facing) you can rent a kayak or a sail boat there at the on site location. All in all a great place, me and my girl friend went, had a few beers and got hungry […] around 11, didn't want to drive, so we walked across the street and ended up at woody's strip club. had some chicken fingers and a few beers and called it a night. But this place has an on site resturant too. Les mer
"Islander Resort -great location & water activities"
Stayed there with my 3 children. Used water tricycles, hobie cat sailboat, pools and hot tubs. Went out to Morada Bay and Worldwide Sportsman for eating and shopping. Great spot!

"Family Traveling from Miami to Key West"
We flew into Miami with plans of staying a week in Key West and needed a place to stay mid-route. The Islander was a great choice, especially as we were traveling with two teenaged kids. There was plenty to see and do with water activities, fishing and plenty of poolside seating. Our room stated an ocean view but there was no direct view of the ocean […] from our room. It was quite large with a full kitchen and large screened in porch area. Bathroom was clean but it smelled like b.o. (not ours). Staff was extremely pleasant and helpful. Les mer
"Great place - will go again"
We had a wonderful relaxing stay. The room was clean and comfortable, everything worked. It was not a shiny super modern type place, rather it had a very definite old Florida feel. Pools and hot tub were large and well maintained. The staff was friendly and helpful. The mattresses were a little soft but I've slept in worse. The Sunset Cruise was very […] laid back and enjoyable. Steve, the captain, did a great job. The breakfast was minimal, but the cereal, juice and coffee were fine for us. They did have skim milk which was a plus for us. The pastries were disappointing. I didn't expect much of the onsite restaurant because of it's size, but we ate there one evening when too tired to go out and was very pleasantly surprised, wife's ribeye steak and my sautéd yellow tail were both delicious. Nice Tiki bar, although I'm not sure you can really have a Tiki bar with a steel roof:-) Les mer

"Very Pricey"
The Islander was a very clean, updated "older" resort. Walls were thin to adjoining unit, and drunken fighting of neighbors early in the am prevented quiet sleep. Staff very professional. Tiki Hut on premises very pricey--two beers and fried pickles were around $18.00. Expected more for the price.
"Islander Resort"
My husband and I enjoyed our week here very much. We're retired but active. We especially liked the beach and the individual screened porch each room has. Very close to many activities and a wide range of restaurants. We will come again.
"Great hotel"
We were extremely pleased with everything about our stay. The room was great, the setting excellent and the amenities very good.
"Great place"
every thing was great. Very clean, except for alittle mold in the shower. i will definitely return again and again. the only advice i have is ,if you like quiet don't get a room too close to the hot tub, since people tend to go in at nite when they are aliittle buzzed and talk really loud. but since the pool closes at 11 they are always gone by then. […] Also there is not much shade by the pool and on the beach, you have to rent an umbrella if you want one or find a low growing palm tree and position your chair just right. Les mer

Over priced
"Great time at the Islander"
I was in a perfectly clean, sparkling, bright and large room extending out toward the beach, which gave it a feel of having one's own private villa. I mean it! This was the best room I've ever had in any Florida hotel and as good as any I've stayed in in Hawaii for that matter. The "free" breakfast was great, and the hotel's dock was really nice: extended […] well out into the shallow, clear ocean. I felt after 10 minutes that I could just stay here forever. Temperature control was instantly at work if I'd change it, allowing room to stay perfectly comfortable. I felt like though the price was fairly high, it was in line with the amenities, for sure. And it was NOT expensive. It's also a perfectly convenient location to a number of other stores/restaurants, including a Bass Pro Shop and adjacent top grade restaurant, and a little grocery on the highway that was small but had everything you'd want, including some fun gourmet items, such as special cheeses. It was also close to the dock where you can hand feed the tarpon and I went there twice. I really don't feel like I need to explore further when I go back to the Keys, when it comes to a hotel. By the way, I'm a 66 year old male retiree with a bit of a back problem, for what it's worth. I found it easy to utilize all the hotel's facilities, including a really nice, fun outdoor bar/restaurant. Food was fine there too. I can't imagine anyone with a major difference in opinion on this hotel, though we all have our likes and dislikes, of course. One example of how clean it felt: I noticed that when I'd be barefoot on the tile floor, I got NO grit on my feet. That's better than I keep my own floor at home, I'd have to say. Les mer
"OK but not great"
Nice and clean but not plush, as the photos suggest. We were charged for a beach umbrella--a little tacky for the high prices charged.
"Islander"
Awesome beaches, great pools, but the very best are the water sports. Unbelievable sunset cruise with Steve and Dennis. The oceanfront room was definitely the best. The staff were friendly and helpful and the local grocery and restaurants also very good. The beach at the islander is just like the pictures...a definite must see
