Middlethorpe Hall And Spa - York

Amazing house, with stunning gardens and grounds. All staff were extremely helpful, and went out of their way to make the stay excellent. Spa also good size very relaxing. Would definitely recommend to family and friends to stay when in York.

A beautiful hotel, very convenient for York city centre and close to the race course. Friendly and very helpful staff. Food was delicious and facilities were excellent. Would thoroughly recommend middlethorpe hall.

Very Relaxed surroundings. We stayed in a room in the courtyard - only a short walk to both the Spa (50 yards) and the hotel. Room small and cosy (twee) - recently constructed but felt as if walking back in time huge bed. Grounds relaxing to walk arround and only a short drive into York itself

I arrived late at the hotel after the restaurant was closed, however the reception staff did offer to check whether I could have a meal, instead I had a small but good quality meal from the room service menu, they use real tea, no tea bags, you have to use a tea strainer. Room was lovely, well appointed, bathroom was great, the only downside was that […] the WiFi did not reach very well down to the old stables and I could not connect to the internet, that said it was a great hotel with helpful staff Les mer

We booked Middlethorpe for its location. We were planning a special meal and it was centrally placed for all our guests. The food, service and accommodation was first class. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Our stay was thoroughly enjoyable and we will choose Middlethorpe when we next stay in York. The spa is excellent.

Stayed for three nights mid december.Hotel very interesting,full of history and comfortable.staff very friendly and helpful.Ask for tea making facilities and they will supply you with a tray.spa facilities available but seperate from main building. We really enjoyed 3 nights at the hotel. We were in a superior courtyard room, which was very comfortable. The staff were universally lovely and helpful and if we could get another good rate, we would certainly stay again. Overall, this hotel feels a bit like a step back in time - the rooms are definitely not minimalist or cutting edge / modern, but […] they have been well decorated and are very cosy. The communal areas are gracious and comfortable and the grounds well kept (although sadly you can hear the A19 motorway pretty prominently when you walk around the grounds, but not in the hotel itself). We thought it was a great touch being able to have tea / coffee delivered to the room in the morning (on a beautiful tray, with a proper teapot / cafetiere). We enjoyed breakfast too and spending some time in the pool / steam room / sauna (quite small but clean and not too busy when we were there). It's about 3 or 4 miles out of the centre of York and very close to the racecourse. If you wanted to eat anywhere other than the hotel in the evening, you would need a car. Overall, a really relaxing break in a very friendly hotel in lovely surroundings - highly recommended. Les mer

We stayed as a family for one night on our way north so we could visit York. The benefit for us was that the hotel had a swimming pool. We had 2 rooms in the courtyard which were very well appointed- clean and very comfortable. The hotel is very grand and we didn't eat in the main dining room - the only menu looked very appealing but it was expensive […] and we didn't feel it was appropriate taking the children. Les mer

Went away for a long weekend to celebrate our anniversary & really happy with our choice. The hotel was beautiful, as were the grounds, and the staff could not have been more friendly and helpful! We went into York for shopping and sightseeing and used the bus which stops right across the road from the hotel and in the evening we walked in along the […] river path, as recommended by the hotel's concierge. The spa, whilst small, provided a good break for achey feet that had been exploring York all day. We didn't eat lunch or dinner in the hotel but breakfast was great - lots of choice and obviously high quality, fresh, local ingredients. Highly recommended! Les mer

Middlethorpe is a great hotel. We had a quiet and very comfortable time. Access to York by bus is easy and there are some great places in easy access. Service in the hotel is good and staff are very friendly.

Very comfortable suite (free upgrade!) with very pleasant and professional staff. The only slight downside was the proximity of the A64 which meant the sound of traffic was noticeable from the gardens

Good all round hotel. Their gardens are the best kept hotel gardens I have seen

We stayed here for one night (May 27th) for a special birthday weekend trip to York, and were upgraded from a courtyard room to a little cottage just down the road from the hotel. Very sweet and unexpected with an old world charm! Personally would have preferred to be upgraded to a luxury room within the hotel - but the privacy of the little cottage […] was good and it had all creature comforts. Service was amazing at the hotel - everyone very polite and the breakfast in the morning was superb. Had the feeling of staying in a National Trust property with lovely antiques and furnishings - but the lounge was a little chilly in the evening! Gardens are beautiful - and would have looked better on a sunnier day! I would certainly recommend this hotel for a lovely country retreat close to York! Les mer

Delightful National Trust country house hotel and spa. I was on business in the area so didn't get to try out as much of the spa facilities as I would have liked, but I intend to go back. Staff and service all very good - attentive without being fussy. I imagine this must be what country house parties were like in the twenties - think Poirot/Jeeves […] & Wooster. Currently trying to find an excuse to go back. Les mer

I booked the hotel over the internet having never stayed their before and it was for my wife birthday. from the moment we got their we knew we had made the right choice, the staff the rooms and the overall feel were excellent, the weekend we were their York had several inches of snow but the staff could not have been more helpful, would recommend this […] hotel to anyone its very much like staying in a stately home, we will return Les mer

The hotel was very English, a real treat. Have the champagne afternoon tea first then move into library and read - sometimes you need to be pampered x

Nothing short of excellent service and food. The surroundings were beautiful with great attention to detail. The garden was breathtaking and the gardener invited us to pick the growing fruits. We had to leave very early the morning of checkout because my mum was unwell and the staff even put together a breakfast box for us and delivered tea and coffee […] to our room before we left at about 5.00am. Will certainly return and highly reccomend. Les mer

This hotel was marvellous, in a National Trust house with lovely gardens, attentive staff and excellent (though quite expensive) food. In spite of its rural setting it is only 2 miles from York railway station, with a bus stop immediately outside. At Hotels.com prices, the room was fantastic value.

We stayed two nights at Middlethorpe Hall. We thought that the hotel was beautifully furnished and decorated in the period style and set in lovely grounds. It was more like staying at a country home than an hotel. Our room was in the courtyard with a nice view of the garden. It was attractively furnished and very comfortable with everything we needed. […] The bathroom was smaller than expected but well equiped. We enjoyed dining at the hall. The food was good, well presented and made even more special by the excellent service and wonderful surroundings. However, the continental buffet breakfast was disappointing with limited choice. We had expected a luxury stay in every way at Middlethorpe Hall for the price we were paying. The staff were most obliging and friendly, the dining room and public rooms were charming, the house itself was historic and the gardens beautiful. The food was above average but our room was very disappointing. It was tiny and had no internet access, no safe […] and a miniscule bathroom in which the shower was most unusual in that you were sprayed with freezing cold water before you could get a chance to adjust the temperature. This is a wonderful country house hotel, beautiful rooms, elegant surroundings, superb gardens and very reasonable. If you are visiting York ,this is the place to stay. You'll feel like the lord of the manor.

What a delightful hotel. Beautiful gardens, lovely accommodation and wonderful staff. The feel of the place is like staying in someone's country house home. The staff were all charming, very helpful and totally unintrusive, without exception. I definitely recommend this hotel. For what we got it was great value.
