Hva betyr mest for deg? Ekstravagante hoteller med høy komfort og luksus - eller er du mer opptatt av genuint varme mennesker, service og lav pris? Ayah Villa gjestehus utenfor Cambridge er i sistnevnte kategori. De ansatte er tilsynelatende villig til å ofre seg for gjestenes velvære, ved eksempelvis å stå opp midt på natten for å ta imot gjester som ankom sent etter flykaos. Frokosten er fortreffelig, med tradisjonell engelsk frokost og essensielt tilbehør. Kaffe og te tilgjengelig til enhver tid i en automat ved resepsjonen, som danner grunnlag for uformell hygge. Beliggenheten er dog omstridt. Ayah Villa ligger omtrent en times gåtur fra den miljøvennlige universitetsbyen Cambridge, like ved tettstedet Trumpington. Da blir jeg minnet om ordene fra Erasmus av Rotterdam : "En apekatt forblir en apekatt, om enn den er kledd i purpur". (Dårskapens lovtavle). For kontrasten mellom akademikerens lekegrind og skarve Trumpington er formidabel. De fleste gjestene på Ayah House var håndverkere som etter mitt skjønn knapt kan ha lest etter tiden da foreldrene leste Heksene av Roald Dahl for dem. Luksus og komfort er forgjengelig - menneskelige relasjoner og omtanke er verdier som fører menneskeheten videre. Spesielt i en tid med ustabil verdensøkonomi. Slå et slag for medmenneskelighet, besøk Ayah Villa.

"Not as good as expected"
We stayed for 2 nights recently and as a couple living nearby we heard good things about the hotel. We were in the main disappointed - it felt like a hotel living on it's reputation. The hotel foyer area had debris from afternoon teas there several hours after the clients left, the room had a piece of spagetti on the carpet, the wake up call was late […] on both mornings, breakfast (advertised as a 6.30am start) was 25mins late. Generally the customer service was sloppy, it had a poorly managed feeling. They also charge £5 per night for parking for quests. Les mer
"Fabulous Hotel....but take ear plugs!"
Lovely building. Beautiful room with classy furnishings, good bedlinen and a roomy en-suite. Really exquisite public spaces and a lovely dining room. Lovely pool and jacuzzi, but the pool is TINY and certainly not for those looking for a serious exercise swim. No sauna or steam room which one would expect from a 'Spa', and only one shower. Lovely setting […] on the river bank. Fabulous staff who are helpful and professional. Great location in the heart of Bedford for those like me who work there. Bad points? Constant noise from inside the hotel all through the night. Was woken at 1.00am with running up and down the corridor, and then until 4.00am with constant door banging, chatting, giggling, knocking on doors etc. Also my room looked out onto a flat roof which had a very noisy extractor unit which droned and buzzed all night. gave up at 6.00am and got up. Breakfast disappointing. Mass catering style buffet. Hard 'grilled' tomatoes which were totally uncooked and just warm. Floury, tasteless scrambled eggs (no fried available) Hard, dry bacon. Sausages that were mainly cereal filler. The fruit compote was frozen solid and inedible. What a shame that such a lovely place is let down by this 'chain hotel' style breakfast. Hotel a lovely old buiding,but very dissapointed with the spa facilities.Tiny pool,not like in the photo,no sauna or steam room,or gym facilities and no toilet !!!! in pool area.The changing rooms consisted of 2 tiny wooden cubicles no showering facilities or dressing areas,not as we expected at all from the web page.We reported the water in our shower […] not running away so we were standing in a pool of dirty water whilst showering but it was never looked at,We went for a relaxing spa break but were not happy with the facilities in the hotel !!! Really loved the decor and style of the hotel, very friendly staff and amazing (though small!) Roman style pool. Dinner was really nice, we got a good deal on Seafood specials menu. Only problem was they forgot to bring out my husband's starter until I'd nearly finished mine and we had to ask someone where it was. They did take it off our bill though […] and were very apologetic and professional. There were a few niggles, such as there being no hotel manual in the room so nothing to tell us pool opening times, services, facilities, numbers to call for reception, room service etc. Most of the pool locker keys had no rubber wrist bands on so once you'd locked it there was nowhere to put your key. Overall though, we found it a very relaxing place to stay in a nice location and the staff were all really nice. Would recommend it, especially for a short break. Lovely hotel. As you drive up to the hotel it's very impressive, as was the entrance and reception area. Afternoon tea was delicious. Room was nice. Waiting staff were very polite and attentive, though I felt they were short staffed. I booked this for work. As we have a budget i didnt book the breakfast as it was an extra £15.00 on the website. When arrivedI was offered breakfast. it was £10.00 not £15.00 . At least i save there but then had to pay £5.00 for parking, so not too happy. The pool and sauna was closed to too much clorine. Maybe it just wasnt my night. However all in […] all i ate heartly at breakfast, maybe the price was part of it. However had to come down to the public area to use the internet. On the plus side the rooms were lovely and everything i needed was in at least one room Les mer

The hotel is a good place to stay when visiting Bedford it is clean and tidy. the only moans we had would be when checking in the two girls on check in were too busy talking and completely ignored us and the cost of drinks in the bar. Also be aware you are charged to park the car at the hotel car park 5 pounds a night.

"Swan is not what you expect...in a bad way"
The older part of the hotel is very attractive and very nice indeed but quite simply the room we were is was shockingly bad. Not even b&b standard. The website is seriously damaging as it totally oversells what you are most likely to get. Horribly disappointing.
"Not to be recommended"
Stayed at hotel for a mates wedding. Unable to sleep due to rowdy guests, numerous people called reception to complain. Yet nothing was done. Woke up Saturday to no hot water and unable to have a shower. Staff were surly and unhelpful. Breakfast service was diabolical. It's a buffett, help your self. So it shouldn't be to hard to get some tea and coffee […] served to the tables!! Not a four star hotel, expect better for the stars and the price! Les mer

The staff at the Bedford Swan hotel lift the hotel to a level above its star rating. Without exception staff were outstandingly helpful, especially the restaurant managers and reception staff. My second stay here, this time I wanted to try the spa facilities. I was chilled out and relaxed after the jacuzzi, pool water was too cold for me! Bed was comfortable, showers are a bit hit and miss. Breakfast had a good range, I am a vegetarian and there were lots of options, but I thought rather expensive. Overall a good, comfortable, clean hotel […] and fine for a one night stay. We stopped off at Bicester Shopping Village on the way back home which was also convenient and part of our plan. The hotel charged for access to leisure facilities, which I find annoying given the expense of the room only and the 4 star rating. We were very happy with our room. We stayed for 2nights. The hotel location is excellent, in the centre of everything and opposite the river. We didn't eat at the hotel but we did see other guests having afternoon tea with cakes which looked lovely! An additional plus side was that there is a free jacuzzi and (small) swimming pool free for guests to […] use. Just ask at reception for a key! I would recommend this hotel, we didn't have any problems and room service came everyday and changed our towels, and topped up our toiletries and tea/coffee making facilities. Only slight moans, the food was a little slow in coming in the evening meal but there was some pressure in the kitchen I understand. Well located and good pool area. No ramp to wheel luggage into reception from car park, carpets in landing areas tired, fire doors not closing properly on landings, breakfast over priced, bathrooms not well lit.

"Nice enough hotel but some issues"
I was there as part of a family gathering and we would have liked to have chatted and drunk in the bar but it closes at quite an early hour. It also surprises me that when the hotel is not full they give rooms with restricted view. All I could see out of my (full price room) was an enormous satellite dish. Finally, do the staff not know better than […] to allow a long and loud discussion with someone negotiating a discount rate to take place in a public area. "Gorgeous Hotel"
stayed at this hotel overnight with a friend and have to say i was not disappointed with the hotel. lovely hotel with lots of character but still has all the mod cons you would expect of a 4 star hotel. lovely room with extremely comfortable bed and plenty of room in the bathroom. the outside patio area is a fab place to sit out in the sun and enjoy […] a drink or a coffee or their lovely afternoon tea with sandwiches and cakes. we did eat sunday lunch in the restaurant and both enjoyed it very much. fresh cooked vegetables and lovely roast beef with yorkshire pudding, no frozen nasties here all freshly cooked and wonderful. oh and you have to try the desserts, they are also home made and to die for! they do a special of two courses for £15 and it was very good value. no problem with parking at this hotel either and you really must try the pool, was lovely and so very different to the usual hotel pools. would deffo use this hotel again, only down side is there is not too much in the immediate area if you wanted to go outside the hotel for entertainment in the evening. lots of pubs close by but none of which looked very inviting to two ladies on their own, bit scary actually. couldn't fault the hotel though, lovely service, lovely room, good food and lovely by the river during the day in nice weather. Fint og velholdt hotel. Meget venligt personale. Flotte faciliteter. Meget engelske lokaler. God beliggenhed midt i byen, men på tilpas rolig afstand af byens liv. Fine parkeringsmuligheder.
