My wife and I were extremely happy withour 4 day stay in Best Western Castle Green. The hotel was in beautiful surroundings and provided a very high level of comfort and relaxation.Our room was always spotless and had a wonderful view over the gardens and surrounding countryside from the balcony. Eating at the hotel or at Alexander's Pub in the grounds […] was a delightful experience,great variety and reasonably priced. We were very impressed by the professionalism and friendliness of all the staff we met ,from Reception to Serving Staff to Cleaning Staff. Well done to all concerned. Highly recommended. Les mer

We enjoyed a restful two days with a very obliging staff throughout the hotel.excellent food well presented and good quality. Despite a full hotel there was little noise or disturbance. Hope to use it again. Despite my wife's disability she received excellent attention from staff members.

It's nice to stay at a reasonably priced hotel where every member of staff seems genuinely bothered about looking after you, from the receptionist to the dining staff to the chef. Nothing was too much trouble and I would definitely book to stay here again when I go to Kendal. The hotel was clean and spacious with views over the surrounding countryside, […] and you could go out of reception straight into a woodland walk up onto the tops. I can't fault it. Les mer

Food in the restaurant very good, particularly enjoyed the local specialties. Swimming pool also very good.

A lovely hotel. The rooms were nice and the staff were friendly. It is a large facility and so lacks the quaint feeling of a smaller place. Only gripe were the lumpy pillows. Breakfast was great and there were lots of additional facilities including a steam room, pool, gym, bar, pub and restaurant.

We had an excellent stay for 3 nights at The Castle Green Hotel. The staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble, even changed the TV bracket so we could watch TV from the bed! Lovely Pool, and Gym which we used everyday. Were going to eat in restaurant but the food in Alexanders pub in the grounds was delcious and so was the atmosphere […] that we ended up eating there every night. We stayed with my 93 year old mum and my 2 daughters we all said the hotel ticked all the right boxes. Les mer

Hotel is at the top of a hill with small car park adjacent and large car park at the bottom of the hill, so a suitcase with wheels is useful in case you have an uphill walk! During our stay there was a wedding, but service was still good despite how busy the hotel was. Only down side was a lot of the wedding guests stayed over and we were constantly […] woken up by them talking and singing outside our door throughout the early hours. Got served cold hot chocolates - this was soon rectified by the staff, they brought replacements that were then scalding!! Not a good choice of hotel if you are a light sleeper! Hotel location and grounds good but a little too far to walk into Kendal for us, needed to take the car. Les mer

I thought the staff were great. Always willing to please, which is what you want in a hotel. The hotel itself does seem a bit dated. Got a very 70's feel about it, but I would happily return. The hotel restaurant was also surprisingly good. I highly recommend the steak!!

The hotel is positioned outside the town of Kendal in its own ground. There are gardens attached to the hotel which are well worth a slow ramble around. The staff we met were all helpful and greeted you with a smile and could not be more helpful. The dining area is spacious, with panoramic views of the surrounding area. The Castle Green Hotel has the most polite and helpful staff I have had the pleasure of meeting in any hotel we have experienced, home or abroad. The rooms are clean and functional with newly fitted bathrooms (we had 2 rooms on the 2nd floor). Fabulous food served and were fully able to meet dietary requirements without any trouble. Quite a good hotel. Only negative for me was the limited access children have to the pool, 10 till 12 and 2pm till 4pm, this should be on the website as a pool is a big selling point if you're travelling with children.

We were both extremely impressed with the friendliness and warmth of the staff and especially by one member of staff in the restaurant - think she would have been a supervisor - so lovely. All the breakfast staff took the trouble to wish us a lovely breakfast each morning and were fast and efficient at sorting out hot drinks and toast and checked back […] to see that we had everything we needed. We were very apreciative of that care and attention. The other hotel staff were lovely too - the girls on the reception desk and the cleaners and also the staff in the pub. Agree with other reviews in that it certainly seems better than a 3* Hotel. Breakfast was excellent and evening meal in the pub was first rate.

We had a lovely stay and thoroughly enjoyed pool etc. Breakfast great. Would definitely return. Room lovely and bed very comfortable.Thought hotel grounds very pleasant to have walk in.However, disappointed world cup final not on in bar due to family meals so had to watch in bedroom and disappointing hotel not handy to walk into kendal to see it el […] sewhere. We only stopped for 1 night and found it to be ok, the staff were very friendly and helpfully, the room was clean and comfortable but a a little on the small side, the word bathroom tends to give the impression that there is a bath so should be renamed shower room as their is only a shower cubicle with WC and wash basin, we mad the mistake of eating […] at Alexanders (pub next to the hotel) food was run of the mill pub grub which was over priced. The breakfast at the hotel was great and plentiful. I would compare this hotel with one like a travel lodge hotel but considerably dearer !! Les mer

We stayed a few days at this Hotel and loved every minute of it. Staff were very warm & hospitable and happy to help in every way. Food was excellent and the room warm & comfy. Two thumbs up.

The hotel is getting a bit tired in places but overall performed very well, the dinner menu is superb & very reasonably priced with a good wine selection to compliment the food - service was excellent also. The breakfast buffet could not be faulted, again, excellent service & as much food as you would ever need to start the day. Our room was very clean […] & well presented but we were in 113 which is on the ground floor & close to reception therefore, people were returning to their rooms at all hours past our door - in hindsight, we should have asked for a room either further down the corridor or on the 1st floor - this didn't really spoil our stay however. To sum up, we would definitely stay there again, it's not cheap, but it is good. Les mer

This is a great hotel, though a little out of town. Our room was lovely - unexpectedly so - it had a small balcony looking over the rolling countryside. My partner left a jacket behind and this was posted out to him immediately - it arrived two days later, complete with money in the pocket! Excellent service all round.

The hotel is situated between Junction 39 of the M6 and Kendal, outside Kendal itself so you do need a car. Views from the hotel are tremendous and the grounds very well cared for. Dinner and breakfast in the Greenhouse restaurant were excellent if expensive, but we were not too happy with Alexander's Pub where the food was mediocre and the wait for […] a table too long. Our room had obviously been recently refurbished, and was very clean, bright and quiet. It was a busy three days for the hotel, but the staff were always polite and friendly. One minor irritation was the bathroom fan which was noisy and went on far too long. We would be happy to stay there again, and would recommend the hotel if you could get a good deal. Les mer

My view of the hotel is that the management needs further training. I was most surprised that despite the restaurant being half full or less, guests were required to queue outside in the lounge until a table was 'free'. I have not met this bizarre arrangement before and found it most distasteful.

Mould in first room, very damp, musky smell Moved to second room - carpet by door squelched with water, had to get reception to keep drying up\!!

We stayed here for two nights and it was as expected from other reviews we had read, their website etc. We ate in the pub restaurant one night and the meal was lovely, although on the slightly expensive side. a very lovely setting - more 4 stars than 3. staff mainly attentive. the spa is great - very relaxing environment and the staff are great. would thoroughly recommend - only check whether breakfast is included!!

Only stayed the one night on our way back to Scotland, but what a great hotel in a lovely location close to the lakes. Rooms and facilities were first class and great value for money. We ate in the pub Bistro which was part of the hotel and the choice of food was excellent and reasonably priced. The gym and the pool were clean and well equiped. Breakfast […] in the Restaurant was expensive but coffe and breakfast muffins are available in the bar area adjacent to the restaurant and more than satisfied our neads.
