Magnuson Hotel San Antonio - Downtown - San Antonio

This hotel was not at all up to par. Photos of hotel were not representative of the rooms. The hallway and common areas were dingy and dirty. The elevator was very dirty as well. The room we stayed in resembled more of a hospital room....very tiny. After the first night of our stay, we discovered that the door to our room did not lock. The hotel re-located […] us to a different room as soon as we complained. The free breakfast consisted of toast and wafles, very disappointing. We actually left and ate out. There was no cleaning service on our floor because they only had one person on staff to do that and apparently were only cleaning the rooms on the first floor. I would not recommend a stay in this hotel. Les mer

a tired old motel painted up and renamed a hotel there are lots of reasons it is a one star it should be a nostar

Absolutely TERRIBLE experience, from dirty sheets to cochroach in room. No TV controller, no bath plug, and bad odor. But Staff was very cooperative.

For the price it was good. Small room but clean. Friendly staff. Free breakfast but not great. Overall if We were short on money we would stay again.

Good deal for the price. I've been to the same event at the same time of year for three years and I've paid about the same price for hotels each time, traveling with 4 kids. This was the best hotel experience at that price. Breakfast included make your own waffles, toast, cereal, Little Debbie cinnamon rolls, milk and coffee. Juice machine was out. […] Not fancy but fine. They have 24 hr coffee available in Lobby. Very quiet at night and nice beds which really were Queens. Pool was clean and well maintained. Immediately surrounding hotel is some industrial area which may be why people think it is a bad neighborhood, but it is actually right next to the UTSA campus and just 2 miles from Downtown. Les mer

The hotel was conveinent and the right price for me to stay in alone. I would not bring my family to this hotel. The neighborhood was noisy all night. The AC kept turning on and off so it was hot then cold all night. I didn't feel like it was very clean for all the stains in bathroom, bedding, couch and counters. I arrived late and all went well with […] staff at 11 pm, got to bed ok and was down for breakfast at 6:30. The orange juice machine was out of order. There were self made waffles but the taste was very dissatisfying. When I returned to my room to shower, it was very muggy. The AC stopped working no matter what button I hit. I scrambled after the shower to get out of the room so I could breath it was so stifling. I might stay again if I have to have a room close to downtown and I am alone and if there is nothing else available. Les mer

The hotel was nice from the outside and lobby but once i got out of the elevator it was another story. i was there Thursday thru Sunday and the only reason i stayed that long was because i had already paid for the room and it was convenient to where i needed to go. some of the lights in the room didnt work, it was small and dark . We were on a weekend out with our children and decided to stay here because of price and location. Was not expecting anything fancy just a clean room. We checked in late , outside and lobby very nice and clean. Oh but when we went in the room , first the smell was horrible all moldy....the non-smoking room had cig burns on blankets and on counters....the […] sofabed when taken out was full of mouse droppings and small little roaches were crawling on the walls. We were only there for 5 min there is no telling what else was wrong if we would have stayed. We were still charged one day even though we were in the room for 5 min. Les mer

I went to San Antonio my friend for the first time, I was told I should have my hotel near the Riverwalk, after searching around, I found this hotel, which according to Hotels.com is near the Riverwalk. In fact it's 10 min drive from the riverwalk. In addition, the hotel had no signs outside, and looked abandoned, if it wasn't for my trusty GPS, I would […] have never found this place. After entering the hotel, I found one person in the entire hotel, which later disappeared, it seemed the hotel was totally abandoned, by the number of cars outside, I would say no more than 10 people were staying there. The condition of the room was disappointing too, although it was neat, the sheets had stains; which i preferred not to wonder about. Lastly, in the morning, I was told they canceled the Continental breakfast which was supposed to be included. All in all, very bad stay, very bad hotel, and this wasn't the cheapest hotel around. Very large room, no breakfast served on Saturday or Sunday. I can't imagine staying here during the summer, room very hot on 80 degree day. Older hotel that needs some updating, convenient to downtown but rough area of town. Room was clean overall and was shocked that it was cleaned daily.

From the lobby, towels, floors and everything else was dirty and with no maintenence at all. The location of the hotel was great, close to almost everything, but it was very dirty. Wouldn't recomend it!

It is completely not worth the money. Run down and dirty.

I'm not real picky about hotels. I usually look for the cheapest I can find to save money for other things to do. The maintenance issues we had were the handle on the bathroom door kept falling off and the metal ring around the bathtub water control wasn't even attached when we got the room. Neither of these was a problem for us so I didn't even say […] anything. If your looking for an inexpensive stay that is close to major highways and a short drive to the Alamo and Riverwalk this is a good place to stay. If your looking for 4 star + pay more and stay somewhere else. They also have one of those waffle machines which I like and my kids do too. Les mer

If the pictures were updated this would give u a true view of this property. The web pictures are about 10 years old or they have been photo shopped

we needed a room just for one night until we went to a different hotel because we arrived early. The hotel was not in the best looking neighborhood. The room was tiny good thing we didnt have a suitcase because our duffel bags barely fit. The room was very humid and stuffy. The air conditioning didnt seem to work very well, either the room had to be […] freezing cold or humid. The sheets felt damp because of the room temperature. No fridge or microwave. I would not stay here again or recommend it. You can get a very nice room for $15 more elsewhere. Les mer

It was a decent hotel for the money. Get down for breakfast early if you want a waffle. No train sounds all night like other reviews i read. Staff was friendly and helpful; hotel only a few minutes from downtown.

In the past, I've had my share of good and bad hotels, but all in all, I left pretty satisfied. This is the first time in my life I would dread coming back to this hotel. To get started, the service at the front desk was sub-par to say the least. Then when you walk into the elevator you realize the ground is destroyed/damaged. Then when you enter your […] room, unpleasant smells and uncomfortable temperatures greet you. If you put in a request at the front desk, you may as well talk to a wall because they won't do anything about it. Room service does a decent job of replacing everything. The towels at the hotel are as rough as sandpaper, and the bed caused me about 4 days of back and neck pain, and I'm 21 years old! The only benefit to this hotel is that it's close to the highway. I'd suggest taking the highway and going far, far away anyway because the surrounding area is disgusting. The classiest restaurant you'll find within walking distance is probably McDonald's, or the deserted Chinese restaurant that is out of business. Another plus is that the hotel is relatively close to the Riverwalk, but I'm sure there are much nicer hotels that are even closer. So, in summary, I would highly recommend NOT staying at this hotel. The pictures you see on the web site are not truth. The pool was dirty Horrible!

This hotel is the worst places I have ever stayed at. The room was full of mold. Everything was broken and it was extremely dirty. The pictures on-line DO NOT accurately represent the hotel rooms. I strongly urge you not to stay here.

This was the first time I tried this chain and I will not use it again. The bathroom had a horrible smell. the floor rug was filthy. It's only saving grace was that the hotel staff was very nice and helpful. This was the first time I ever got a lemon in my choice of hotels.

The hotel is located near the Market Square which is a big plus to me. As far as the cleanliness, I'd say they do a good job. The only drawback is the breakfast. Coffee and juices taste watered down and there is not much of a selection!

We stayed in this hotel for 1 day, although we didn't spend much time in hotel.But our overall experience was pleasurable. The staff were very cordial and friendly with us. This hotel is very near to major attractions of the city.. like riverwalk, The alamo etc. around 2 miles from the hotel. Stayed here on July 4th weekend 2011. Hotel is run down, and pool is small. Room was not cooling, only cool near the ac , rest of room was extremely hot! Notified mgr and got transfered to another room, and same expierence. AC's leak and floor is wet around ac area. Carpet is stainned badly, doors missing on kitchenette , and top sheets were soiled […] too. Overall not good place to stay! Les mer

Very pleased with front desk personnel especially Manager Bobby. Accomadations were top of the line and the housekeeping staff were very efficeint. I will stay here again. Thanks

Furniture broken, carpets very soiled, Fire alarms pulled out of ceiling and wire showing. Television was going out. Bath Tub was pulled away from wall. Vending area on 3rd floor was dirty. Pool was dirty and slimmy.

This hotel needs to close its doors it is not a suitable place for anyone to stay. There were holes in the wall. The rooms were non-smoking, but smelled like smoke. The bathroom toilet ran constantly and there was a space of about three inches from the door frame to the floor. The cushion that was in the window seat was filthy!!! The breakfast was cereal […] and toast, not good at all!!!! My kids wouldnt even eat. The pool area was a disgrace. There were cigarette butts all around the pool. The location is surrounded by abandoned buildings. There was one washer and one dryer and they considered that LAUNDRY. DO NOT STAY HERE!!!! Les mer

The pictures on the website are not at all what the hotel looks like. It's dingy, the linens were stained, drawers broken, shower knob was broken. I didn't pay much for the room, but it was still more than what it was worth. I'm disappointed that the pictures showed a nice, clean room and it was not at all so.

I was a little weary of the reviews I had read about this hotel but in all I must say it was well worth it..I mean if you pay a low amount don't expect high expectations.This hotel is located across the expressway about 5 minutes from down town San Antonio which was great..the area surrounding the hotel wasn't that great but that's not what your paying […] for..your paying for a room..I stayed in room 132 2 queen beds non smoking and since the reviews stated bad neighborhood we were lucky this room was bottom level right in front of hotel and there was parking spaces right in front so we got to keep an eye on our car which nothing happened to it. we had a great stay and room was nice nothing to complain about it was just a place to sleep! Overall I was satisfied with my stay. However, I feel the company should focus more on the rooms and not so much on the outer appearance. The outer appearance was nice the lobby was beautiful. But the rooms need lots of work.

Everything was awesome. I kinda didn't like that breakfast ended at 8:30 but oh well. I loved the customer service. I loved how much BECKY helped me around town i think she should get a raise. I would like to thank her so much but she wasn't there when i checked out. I would definitaly stay there again. Thank hotel.com for this great hotel!

the good - location close to market square, the bad surrounding area scary.. the ugly rooms dirty bed spread had some kind of stains.. I didn't expect much for the price but I expected better. I checked out early do to I could not stand it anymore I was not the only one that day either.

The whole hotel needs to be repaired. The rooms were somewhat dirty and the sheets and comforters had stains on them. We asked for them to be changed and they did, but the new ones were also stained. The rooms were not vacuumed and the whole hotel needs major repairs.

THIS HOTEL WAS A STAPLE IN A ROAD WARRIOR STRING OF MOTELS. FAIR QUALITY AT LOW PRICE THROUGH THIS DISCOUNT SERVICE.

The hot tub is cemented over. They really don't clean the pool much. Nice room, but it was in an industerial area. Not that close to the down town.

the hotel was ok,it was a nice price for a five day stay far from everything we was planning on seeing,but that was our fault.the breakfast was ok good enough for the kids,anything i needed the front desk got it or tried to,no business center or ironing board like it said

the location is great, the employees where wonderful but the condition of the hotel was straight up nasty, broken/ missing doors and air condition front panel.neighborhood was very busy with police, fire trucks and ambulance every 30 minutes or so speeding up and down the streets all day and night.bath tub did not stop up for me to take a bath, i call […] for someone to fix it then had to call back for the attendant to tell me i had to change rooms. omg i wish i'd stayed in the other room.breakfast is a compliment so just keep that in mind but it should be a complaint.LMAO will not return or recommend this Microtel of a hotel. it's in the name micro tel. Over all the hotel was nice and do not have any complaints other than bed were a bit too hard thats all I have to say about this.

I have to say that it was not bad but I have seen better for the same price I paid. I was disappointed with the room cleaning. As soon as I opened the room door it was smelly and on my second nite I was surprise to find a roach running all over the room. The breakfast left me without words. I have seen better continental breakfast in other places. It […] was close to the locations that I wanted to visit and quiet. The personnel was great and accommodating. Coming from NYC and hotel I am use to seeing and staying in. I was uncertant about this hotel after reading the reviews. However, the price was right and I took my chances. I must say that I was glad I did. This hotel was not bad at all. My stay was for 4 days in one of the suite rm, and each day was pleasant. The staff (Mr. Bobby) was extra concern […] and very nice. Everyone had great customer service skills. The location was right in the center of all entertainment. The bed was comfortable, the furniture was well organized, the pool was clean and open. I am not sure if the hotel was under staff. But the hotel would be more attractive and sucessful if the housekeeping to the rooms would clean a lil better. All in all It was a great exsprience I would recommend this hotel to a friend / family member. It served it's purpose. Les mer

We have stayed in several Microtel Inns. Usually Microtel are very nice places for the price. This was the worst hotel I have stayed in my travels It was old, run down, bugs in the room, filthy, next to RR tracks in a run down part of town.
