Royal St Charles Hotel - New Orleans

Location of hotel was close to everything we needed or wanted to see. The room was a little on the small side especially the bathroom. It was a bit crowded for 3 people to stay in this room. Also there was no window and we found this kind of annoying.

Great location, very pleasent staff. Rooms small without many amenities but very clean.

This hotel was nothing special but it was decent especially if you want a hotel that is very close to Bourbon St. It's literally only a block. Of course they nickel and dime you just like most New Orleans hotels...$9 mandatory fee per day for internet and phone whether you want those services or not above what you already paid to hotels.com. $30 for […] parking daily but then it changes to $40 a day for "special event" nights. Clean hotel close to all attractions. Good price and service. Cool A/C. Nicely furnished room and bathrooms. Service was good. They accomodated us by storing our luggage until check in time and even after check out.

tiny lobby and parking s 2 blocks away, but location is right off burbon street, room was clean and nicely decorated. I will stay there again

Within walking distance to several sights and transportation readily available.

First, be aware that the hotel WILL charge you $8/night in 'resort fees' that supposedly pay for WiFi, but the WiFi is slow enough that you'll be far better off using your iPhone. Second, the service (with the exception of valet, who are wonderful) is abysmal. I found the staff either rude or openly acting put-upon if asked a question. Third, the condition […] of the hotel is approximately Motel-6 quality. The room was dirty, the bed uneven, the ironing board broken, the towels poor quality and insufficient quantity, and we did not even have a window in the room. Finally, the location is brilliant. It is right on the edge of the French Quarter and directly on the streetcar line, so access to the city is wonderfully easy. Book here only as a last option when the only other availability is $1k/night or out by the airport. Les mer

St. Charles about a block of Canal St., Smaller rooms, but didn't spend much time there anyway. Bed was comfortable. Hotel was right on the trolley line so you will here it roll by often. Parking can be tricky unless you pay for valet.

Royal St. Charles Hotel-New Orleans Excellent location. One block to the Quarter and on the trolley line to the Garden District

The person we booked with on the telephne from Hotel.com completely gave us the wrong information. She quoted this as being a Room with a queen size bed and a seperate room with a pull out couch to sleep on. This room was a queen room only with no windows and very small almost clostraphobic for 2 single women travelling together. Parking was quoted […] at $ 15 per night. The actual parking was $ 20 per night and it was 2 blocks away at the Hilton Garden Inn. We chose the Royal St Charles at her recommendation because it was rated higher than the Hilton Garden Inn and less expensive. We were told that the Hilton was $ 36 more per night and parking included. Both rooms were to be one queen bed with a separate room with a pull out sofa bed. We would have booked the Hilton for a little more money when you take in the cost of parking to have the 2 seperate beds. We were extremely disappointed when we arrived to find out that we were given the wrong information. It was 9 pm and we were exhausted from driving 11 hours and just stayed there because it was so late. We should have been given the correct information over the phone. This was very disappointing. I had a room with 2 dbl beds because I was traveling with my 2 daughters. When we all three tried to stand up and move around at the same time, it was practically impossible. Had there only been 2 of us it wouldn't have been so bad. Other than that it was great. Clean. Safe. Great location. Far enough away from Bourbon Street (2 blocks. 1 blk to Canal, […] then 1 blk to Bourbon) to get away from the Quarter but close enough to be back there quickly. Les mer

Overall not a bad stay but they charged me a daily access fee when I checked in of 8.99/day. I thought that the stay was fully paid at hotels.com. I thought it was a bit of a scam and it felt like they did not want to honor the hotels.com rates. Considering what I paid for a marginal facility it was a bit petty.

Very Convenient to French Quarter and was clean. Checkin was EXTREMELY slow... I must say I have stayed in NOLA alot of times- never had a room with NO window. Ever. With the exception of no window the room was clean and up to date. Very easy to get to Bourbon St or anywhere in the French Quarter- Out the door - cross Canal and you are there. Granted I was there during spring break for some college students, but it was loud and pot smoke filled the hallway 2 of the 4 days I was there. The sink in my room was. It draining and I had to call 3 times before they fixed it. On check out I waited 10 min, partially because the woman at the front desk needed to order her lunch. We were assigned to a room near the elevator on the tenth floor, and as a result we could hear intermittent loud humming throughout the night. In addition, there was hair in the shower when we arrived so obviously the room hadn't been cleaned very well. Booked, paid for and was guaranteed a superior room with 2 beds. Upon check-in, was put in a single room with king bed. The hotel said they had no double rooms available, despite my guaranteed reservation. Offered a roll away bed but made no effort to accommodate or make it right. We had a pleasant stay. The front desk clerks were very pleasant. My car was parked off site due to there being no parking at the hotel, but the valets did a great job and my car had no damage. The lobby is shared with a PJ's Coffee franchise. Not exactly a nice lobby for a ten story hotel. Very small and sparse with a few places to sit. PJ's had more […] space than the hotel did. The rooms were very nice, albeit small. The price was decent for a Saturday night only booking. Each floor should have a vending machine, but only one floor does. The location of the hotel was very convenient to the French Quarter, just a few blocks away across Canal Street. The staff are so jaded with the surrounded, booming tourism trap they've completely thrown customer appreciation and care out the window. The sheets had stray hairs on them, half the lights didn't work, and the shower/bathtub was dingy looking. The only silver lining to this hotel was the location. When looking for a French Quarter Hotel one must understand that the difference of a couple blocks can add to the price tag considerably. This hotel, while not IN the Quarter is basically one short block away. Simply go out the door, walk a block, crosss Canal and there you are. I compared prices and was stunned at the huge savings. This was the second time that we stayed at the Royal St. Charles. Both times were great. The hotel staff is so helpful and always willing to go above and beyond. The location of the hotel makes it easy to be in the mix of things in the French Quarter. The hotel was old, dirty and run down. The Valet was great and honest. Would not stay here again unless it was completely updated.

I travel often for work and stay in lots of hotels. I booked the regent st charles to be able to be in walking distance of the french quarter. The valet service was $30 a night, which was expensive but I chalked it up to bein in a touristy area. The only unforgivable part to the hotel was the bed- it was easily the most uncomfortable bed I have EVER […] had in a hotel. It was new, but a cheap thin mattress with no box spring. The next time work takes me to NOLA I' will stay in a different hotel. Les mer

The walls to this hotel are very thin. You could hear everything that was going on in the other room next to us. Thank God all the kids were sleeping and didn't hear because I would prefer to not have to explain what I heard.

Overall, a pretty good place to stay. Main positive is that the location is good. I had business at the Sheraton and it's very nearby. Negatives: The $10 a night mandatory charge. Why not just admit the price is $10 a night more than listed on hotels.com? Also, they really, really, really need to put in new carpet, especially the halls. Lots of stains […] that look really nasty. Bring socks to walk around in because you don't want to go barefoot on those floors! Les mer

The hotel is very old and had no up to date appliances as well. The customer service skill were not up to par from the front desk reps on to the valet services. The room is very small, it was hard to get comfortable...so I checked out that exact same night.....this place needs major remolding.....I would never be visiting this hotel again!

Great little hotel close to but far enough away from all of the craziness of New Orleans. Staff was prompt and very friendly, tried hard to ensure everyone's privacy throughout the busy time of Mardi Gras. There was so many things that happened that was wrong with this stay, I'm not sure where to start. Check In : simple Room 1 second floor over the trolley, loud asked to be moved to upper floor inside if possibe on day two. Room 2 heavy odor of stale smoke Room 3 large white mold ring in middle of floor Room 4 occupied Room 5 stayed for reminder of stay. 2nd […] night came back to room though front lobby , another guest was leaning of sofa who had just vomited, with the remains all over the floor, sofa and herself, in the pathway to elevator, such a strong odor that it took everything I had not to contribute to this mess. ofa had been removed the following morning. Checked out on Sunday, traveling by car got a few hours down the road realized I had left my Kindle on the bed at check-out, Called front desk asked that they check room, informed that kindle wasnt there, but if I had anyother questions to call house keeping on Monday, did same results even after I had told them that Amazon showed 2 Books had been charged to my kindle on the day of check-out . At hte time of this review I still havent had contact with the hotel , just with their insurance company who after doing interviews with housekeeping that it wasnt their problem end of story. Nice Hotel, Small Rooms & Stale Cigarette Smoke was the Smell inside the room. Parking was a nightmare.. but convenient to the French Quarter.

Very nice and friendly staff. The location of the hotel was great for everything we wanted to do. THe walls were thin and we could hear people in the next room and the room was small, but for the price, it was a great place to stay.

My family stays in New Orleans. I travels there every two weeks. Cause I only stay an hour and thirty mins away. The hotel rooms is very small. The light in the hotel is very dark. Even if you open the curtains and it's daylight outside. The fan in the bathroom comes on with light. The fan is very loud. And when someone goes in the bathroom they might […] as well keep the door open cause you still gonna hear that f**kin fan. The room was very COLD I went to sleep with my pajamas on and a robe with cover. THIS IS A DISGRACE !!! Les mer

We stayed only one night before we left for a cruise but I would stay here again for a longer time. The hotel is located in the business district and the St Charles streetcar is right outside so it would be a great hotel for sightseeing. For our purposes it was very comfy after driving all day. We stayed at the the Royal St Charles five days and four nights. We have visited New Orleans several times a year for several years.The location was chosen because of it's convenience to all of our many destinations in New Orleans and the St Charles trolley line at the front door. Our room was very comfortable and clean. The staff was very friendly […] and helpful. Our balcony room did have road noise from the street car, but that was an expected trade off in our desire for a balcony room and all part of the ambience.
