Casa Madrona Hotel & Spa - Sausalito

We stayed in one of the hillside rooms, instead of the old building. At first they put us right above the storefronts, but I could hear conversations of passers-by. We were then moved up a couple of "flights", and, although it wasn't as noisy, there was still a lot of traffic noise and door-slamming (why is it that people can't just close the door quietly?!?). […] The rooms were well-done - no wood for the fireplace, and the stairs leading up to the bathroom were hard to see at night. The bed was a little hard for me, but the shower was wonderful, the valet parking people were all really nice and the restaurant next door (Poggio) was fantastic. There were double blinds that one had to crank chains to put up or down (ouch!), but there was an elevator, fluffy robes and an all-important refrigerator. We could walk anywhere downtown from the hotel, too. Les mer

This is a very nice hotel in the middle of things, upscale but not snotty. The only caveat is that our courtyard room was 2 levels, making it a little awkward to negotiate around.

We enjoyed our stay very much. The hotel staff, the room , the town was amazing. Everyone was so nice and helpful. I would reccommend this hotel to all my friends.

Wonderful location walking to restaurants very convient. Fast valet service. All in all very satisfied.

Love this Hotel. I especially loved the balcony view of the harbor and the nice bath tub. Thank you I had a wonderful Birthday. We will be back.

The Casa Madrona Hotel and Spa is conveniently located in the heart of downtown Sausalito. Travelers staying here are able to take advantage of their great customer service and valet parking options so that they can stroll about the town of Sausalito, taking in all the shops and wonderful bay views of San Francisco, Angel Island, etc. The bathrooms […] are spacious and luxurious, using personal care products from their spa. I took my wife here for the weekend, and it was exactly what we were needing.

Excellent in every way. If possible, stay in Hillside Cottage 400.

The hotel is in a perfect location on the main road among restaurants and shops on the waterfront. We had a great view of the bay and our room was beautiful. Clean, contemporary, roomy and comfortable. The bathroom was the best - with a soaking tub large enough for two (no jets - which is good because then you don't have to worry about dirty jets that […] I have seen in even the nicest hotels), large glass enclosed shower and double sinks. Years ago, I was a poor, struggling writer and lived on a houseboat (that sunk lately) and used to walk into town to get my coffee at Cafe Trieste -- and into the village proper, where I would glance in the door of the Casa Madrona. It was a breathtaking experience staying here. The room, furniture and bath was first-class. Staff was extremely friendly. Since it was my honeymoon, they even prepared some small gift in the room. Can't think of any complaints. I will stay here again and again if time allows.

Fantastic location and a great staff. We had a big room overlooking the bay that was magnificent.

Staying at the Casa Madrona was a real treat for us. The weather was less than cooperative (windy and rainy), but walking into the hotel was like walking into a welcoming home. We were pleasantly pleased. The room was very comfortable and was in a great location. We did not use any of the spa services so can not comment on that.

The room was unbelievably comfortable and the staff was great. We had massages that were great and room service from the restaurant next door capped off a wonderful romantic overnight. Sausalito has great views but marginal shopping.

Wonderful location in Sausalito, we had the room overlooking the water - gorgeous. Close to shops and restaurants of all kinds. Great walking area. We also did a wine tasting at the wine store two doors down. Great team was had in a wonderful hotel - highly recommend it.

The courtyard King room looked onto a huge wall, no view at all, the layout of the room was awful...so, we had to pay to be upgraded, which cost half again as much and made our trip very expensive. The view from the hillside cottage room was nice and it had a good balcony and layout but at that price we could have rented a house in Kauai on the oce […] an....... Les mer

This was a very beautiful hotel with beautiful view. The rooms were comfortable and the spa offers some amazing services.

although this hotel has a great location we would never recommend it . The room we paid for was suddenly not available we were then offered another room which had a view but slopped down hill and was dirty. We were then offered an alternative room NO VIEW . finally after contacting Hotels.com a room suddenly came available with a view . This is NO way […] to treat a guest who spends several hundred dollars to stay at your resort Les mer

This hotel has a lot of potential. However it seems it has a long way to go. Checking-In was inefficient. Guests will have to go up to the banquet area to check-in at the temporary Front Desk. Then go back down & out to the street, up several stairs (no elevators) to your old, weathered room. We went out that evening and came back to the hotel at […] midnight. We were surprised to see that no one was there to Valet Park the car. We were given a valet parking ticket earlier and would be charged for parking. I would not have minded to park my own car if only we were told where to park it. I went upstairs to the temporary Front Desk on the Banquet level and was more surprised to see that no one was there. No one at the desk, with other guests' information laying out in the open, plus the room key programmer free for anyone to use. Absolute lack of security. Having no Valet person nor Front Desk Staff, I had no recourse but to park my car out in the street. Les mer

Very courteous and attentive staff. The accommodations were comfortable and clean. Great views from the hotel room. We were very satisfied with our stay.

My husband and I got married in Sausalito a year ago and contracted with the Casa Madrona to have our guests stay there at a reduced rate. Obviously, they put us up in one of the nicest rooms in exchange for the business. The experience was wonderful. Every room that we visited was lovely, so we expected to have a great experience again. This time we […] selected the Courtside King because the rate was reasonable. When we checked in the woman "upgraded" us to a "slightly nicer" room. When we walked into the room it was unlike any of the others that we had seen the previous year. It was a split level room with a sitting area on the bottom level and a tiny loft area where they had shoved a king bed and two end tables and across from that an armoir with a TV. The feeling was very cramped and claustrophobic. The bathroom was nice except that in order to keep water in the bathtub we had to shove a washcloth down the drain because the drain they provided was broken. It definitely wasn't the experience that we were anticipating based on our previous year's stay. Lesson learned: always check the room first. On a positive note: the staff was nice. Les mer

The hotel was being remodeled. I guess I did not see that tidbit anywhere. Our room was located at the top of the hill only accessible by a series of winding stairs. The whole bed was made up of goose down feathers, not very good for those who are allergic.

We stayed in the Victorian Home. The room was musty until we aired it out. There were 154 steps from the street to our room. If you used the elevator there were only 74 steps. Not a good place to stay if you have health issues. The views of the bay were beautiful. If you are booking more than one room make sure you call them to confirm they are all […] in the same area. Convenient location to San Francisco and wine country. Lobby was being renovated so there was not alot of information available for surrounding areas. Les mer

The hotel was under construction and things felt out of order. We walked by several doors that were open with unfinished items or stacks of things in them. This wouldn't have been a big deal except the hotel was expensive for this type of condition. With clams of "Spa and Resort" I was disappointed to find that there was not hot tub or pool or even […] a quiet room. I was disappointed with the room in general, it felt unfinished. Les mer

The hotel is perfectly placed in the heart of downtown where you can see people walking & shopping. The view of the bay from the room is magnificent.

OK, for those who want new, make sure you get a room on the new side, if not, this may not be the place for you. We stayed in the old Victorian style building and it was great. It is old, if that is your style, you will love it, we did. We had a view of both San Francisco and the harbor as we had a corner room 620, I would recommed asking for that room. […] Very large, old fasion bathtub, sink. You can sit in the tub and see San Francisco. If you want everything as far as the building to be perfect, this may not be the place for you. The floor is sloped, windows old, etc, as you would expect with a victorian. If you can not get a room with a view, I would not stay in the older rooms. The one drag is the walking up the stairs to the rooms, it is not for the over 60 crowd. We will be going back........... Les mer

This was the smallest hotel room we've seen outside of NYC in America. There was barely any room around the bed, no room for a laptop on the 'desk'. The balcony doors would not close, we had to ask twice to have them repaired. The breakfast options are quite limited.

Very nice hotel right in the center of Sausalito. Our room was comfortable and looked like it came out of a high end furniture catalog. Beautiful environment with lots of atmosphere.

We had a great time staying at Casa Madrona, and would definitely recommend this place to friends.

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay there. The staff was friendly and helpful, and our room was very nice. It was a quiet room with a fireplace, so we slept very well. The location was great, too. We would definitely go back.

Although the hotel was in an outstanding location, right in the heart of Sausalito, with amazing views of the bay, the rooms were very tired. We started in the "old" section and transferred into the "contemporary" section later. Even the contemporary section needed some tlc. However, good news!! We talked to management and a complete remodel of the […] "old" section begins next week and the "contemporary" section is also going to be receiving a much needed make-over. A new management company has just taken over and they appear to be doing a fantastic job and getting things done. They were VERY accommodating when we requested a change of rooms and very friendly and helpful throughout our three night stay. I am told that the remodel will be finished mid-November and I am very much looking forward to returning shortly thereafter. Like I said, you cannot beat the location and views - especially for the price. I will certainly return without hesitation in 2011! Les mer

we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casa Madrona in Sausalito. Kevin (bellhop/valet) was especially helpful with bringing luggage to room, and then collecting it and loading in car. Bayview room that was booked was about as expected, though the view was mostly of the marina in Sausalito with a look of the hillside in Tiburon (NOT the San Francisco skyline). […] It was nice to have separate sitting room, balcony, and fireplace in the room. there is daily fee to park car, which was somewhat unexpected (though reasonable). I travel for a living, and have rarely experienced a service staff as friendly and efficient as the team here. The location was great for visiting SF or Marin Country. Close to restaurants, very clean and comfortable rooms. Would definitely stay there again.

The outside looks fancy and nice, but the Victorian House rooms are just utterly outdated and the smell is really unpleasant. The bathroom stays humid, the doors squeak like crazy, they joint at all so you feel like yo uare in the hallway. The bed was comfortable, and the view really nice, other than that it's a dive that wants to pretend to keep the […] "historical cache". No thanks. On the positive side I love their restaurant.
