Don't expect much. Cheap but really offers nothing except the downtown location. Find something else in Staunton. Will not stay there again.

The best attribute of the hotel, it’s located within walking distance to several better restaurants (Emilio’s was my favorite) and the downtown area for shopping. The hotel was clean and average for comfort. The complimentary breakfast was very limited and we visited Hardee’s across the street on our second morning.

Our non-smoking room smelled faintly of smoke, but even more strongly of just dampness and mustiness. The hotel is old and outdated. Tiny elevator that looks like a freight elevator. I liked this hotel. The only thing that might be improved is the breakfast bar as there weren't any cooked items, but a good variety of things to warm up in the toaster and cereals. Coffee was good!

I went to My Daughters College Graduation so i had no choice. For the Money the room was not worth it! The Front desk staff was wonderful but the room and breafast Sucked.

Stayed here for our daughter's graduation from JMU, as the hotels in Harrisonburg jacked the prices up for graduation weekend. The Howard Johnson's was clean, we'll-maintained, and very accommodating to my request for a non-smoking room. A little off the beaten path, but in a seemingly quaint part of Staunton. Would stay here again!

I stay in Staunton several times a year and stay at the Howard Johnson. The rooms are always clean and comfortable. The service is pleasant and attentive.

The motel is conveniently located in the heart of downtown Staunton so you can easily walk to the restaurants and shops nearby. The only problem was that the housekeeping staff hadn't cleaned the sheets for one of the beds. Chose this hotel partly due to the reviews. After our stay, our family was very disappointed. Cleanliness of room was in need of much improvement. Should not have had to worry about walking on carpet in the room with our bare feet due to spots, dirt and dust or with spots on the sheets, but we did. The iron was broken and would not heat up. Hotel staff […] kept knocking on the door a little after 11 am even though we had the "Do Not Disturb" sign on the door and requested and was granted a late 12 pm checkout the night before. Hotel staff then called the room afterwards to inquire about our check out again effectively waking me up and cutting short my nap before hitting the road again to return home. After expressing my concerns to the manager, he stated what did we expect with a midgrade hotel for the price we paid. But then when I returned to him stating that that really should not be used as an excuse, he stated that he would work on it. Will not stay at a Howard Johnson Hotel product again when management has this type of mindset. In all honesty, I cannot recommend this product for the price paid. There are many other midgrade hotel products that do a better job. I believe it is fair to expect more. On the upside, our family truly did enjoy the sights and scenic views of the Staunton area. Breakfast well we left and went to Hardee's across the street. Old bagels and pastries did not look the greatest. Rooms were a little old.

It's clean, within a short walking distance to downtown, and the price is right for an evening out with out an hours drive back to our home. Not fancy, but very clean, safe and comfortable. It's our third stay and I know we'll be back.

The hotel was very pleasant and comfortable. The only negative was that the continental breakfast left quite a bit to be desired. We would stay there again if the opportunity arose.

We stay at this hotel every time we visit Staunton to see our college daughter. The staff is always very accommodating to our needs, as we travel 11 hours to visit. They allow us to check-in early in the morning because we usually travel overnight. The location is close to all downtown shops & restaurants, which makes it very convenient. This stay we […] had 2 adjoining rooms, which was perfect for our large family and our activities this weekend. Free parking, Wi-Fi, & continental breakfast is also a huge plus! This motel was nice enough. Staff was friendly and attentive. My room was clean. Breakfast had a decent selection. For the price I paid, I was very satisfied with my stay.

I had to make changes to the reservation because of weather and the management of the hotel refused to make changes even though I was 47 hours prior not 48 hours. room was freezing when arrived and took about 6 hours to warm up.

of all the less expensive Staunton hotels the HJ is closest (easy 3 minute walk) from the downtown area. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the room was clean and neat. Other than a parking lot and some fast food there is not much in the neighborhood (as in within one block), but the nice downtown is only 2 blocks further away.

A 3 night stay at a great hotel. I have been here over 10 times in the last few years and my most recent stay was great as always. Staff is always friendly. Fourth time to stay here. Love the historic area with all the church steeples. Feel safe while walking around and to the great restaurant at the bottom of the hill, even at night.

We stopped in Staunton, VA as an overnight stay between Atlanta and Boston. We were simply looking for a simple clean room that we could place our heads down for the night. What we found was shocking: hair clogged in the bathtub, bed covers with explicit stains, light bulbs that had burnt out and seem to not have been checked in a while. Upon complaining […] to the front desk, I was told that I needed to come downstairs and pick up new sheets since only one person was working and could not leave his position. No apologies, and only after I showed the blanket to the front desk, did they offer to switch the room. The bed was uncomfortable, the sheets were poorly cleaned at best, the elevator seems to not have been inspected in years. Spend another 30-40 bucks and go elsewhere, as I learned this lesson the hard way. Les mer

The hotel was nothing fancy but all we were looking for was a place to crash at the end of the day. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Breakfast was sparse but I wasn't expecting much. Overall it is a good place to stay. It is within walking distance of downtown, very convienient.

Hotel nicely located near town center and Mary Baldwin College, which made a nice evening tour after dinner. Downtown was very quaint and the Main Street Grille was the place to dine. Woodrow Wilson birth place and library only a few blocks away.

We were on our way to Smokey from New York and we had a overnight stay here. We needed a place where we could get a good night's Sleep and this hotel provided just that. The Complimentary Breakfast was good too. With very good Belgian waffles. This was cheap and you got more than you paid for. I would highly recommend this hotel

It's a nice Hotel for just one night stay on our way home. The hotel clerk recommend a very nice restaurant down the road called "Bestro"and we thoughly enjoyed it.

I have stayed here over 10 times in the last 3 years as I use this hotel as my resting place in between watching plays at the American Shakespeare Center. Downtown is within walking distance or a free trolley ride. Hotel is older and the overly scrupulous will find faults, but for the price, and the location, I am very happy.

Nothing wrong with it, nothing special either, convenient since the trolley stop is there, we went to the nearby W. Wilson home. Neighborhood is fun during the day (thrift shops, a hobby shop (everything about trains), a neat family diner - "Mariani's Luncheonette" (boothes, locals, run by a mom and her 7 yr old daughter), a Domino's across the street […] for those in a hurry - could be sketchy at night though. We needed an inexpensive place to stay and this HOJO filled the bill. Overall it looked tired and worn, however our beds were clean and very comfortable. Toilets were small and very short. TV was old style and small. Breakfast was all we needed. Quiet location downtown. We would stay here again

The stay included 2 rooms... by mistake on my part. The first room, there was dust on the walls and a cob web above the curtain, but the rest of the room was really nice.. I would stay there again. The second room how ever, had burn marks on a chair and the comforter had burn marks on the underside. the room was clean and the service was great. located […] in historic downtown you couldn't ask for better views or location for the rates charged. The room and bathroom were clean. It was an easy walk to Staunton's historic downtown. On Saturday we came across the farmer's market during a brief walk which was really nice. A Chinese restaurant across the street delivers pretty decent egg rolls to your room late at night! The continental breakfast didn't do anything for me and sleeping in was interrupted […] by the noisy wheels of housekeeping's cart passing our door but all in all, it was priced right, clean and conveniently located.
