HEM Hotel Amsterdam - Amsterdam

Was I satisfied with my stay at the HEM. I’d say yes indeed. The HEM is one block from the tram so access to public transportation (GVB) is a breeze. Once you’re on the GVB anywhere in Amsterdam is at your finger tips. Our shower was the best. Small space for a shower, but the hot water pressure was splendid and endless. Our room (room 357) was facing the highway, which I was upset with at first but then I realized the highway emits very little noise thanks to the sound buffer wall. I could barely hear it from my open window. So at first I didn’t like room 357, I grew to love it. It has great exposure to the sun, the window opens all the way, it is at the end of the hallway so foot traffic by your door is low. In fact I’d suggest requesting room 257, 357 or 457 as they all share these benefits. The downside to the hem is that they charge you for WIFI, and for using the lobby computer. The coffee they sell in the lobby is expensive, small and not so great. The hotel halls and amenities are in mediocre condition. The room was decent but the hall ways and elevators were another story. Not a big deal, but worth mentioning. Overall a grade B hotel. At a decent price. Les mer

Lots of horrible insects in the mattress. We were bitten seriously there and cannot sleep for the whole night. Terrible experience.

No customer service at all. Chek in time is very late at 2pm and they won't check you in a minute earlier than that. They'll make you wait until exactly 2pm even if your room is ready before that. I ask to borrow a bowl to take to my room and they refused. Very dirty. Stains all over the carpet on common areas and in rooms.

Reception looks like a jumble sale. Rooms are clean but are also tired and smell of smoke. Amsterdam is not very big so whilst the location is not central it is adequate. The hotel is however surrounded by housing estates and the Amsterdam ring-road so it's not exactly scenic. The hotel is very cheap and hence this mainly attracts students and large […] groups of men who spend most of the time drinking and smoking outside the front of the hotel. In summary, if all you want from a hotel is a bed, toilet and a shower, then this place is an option. HEM Hotel is not a place to relax and unwind! Les mer

I had an awful experience at the HEM hotel. Most of the amenities were out of service at one time or another: if it wasn't the lift, it was the water or the internet or the electrical system. There were some incredibly rude staff there, but also some very nice ones. The room, despite being non-smoking, stank like a smoker's moustache. It was really […] awful. When we complained we were handed a bottle of woman's deodorant to spray in the room. It didn't help, and you can't open the window as it's bolted shut. They also said they had booked my shuttle to the airport. So I dutifully sat there waiting. When I asked where it was, I was told "It's often 15 minutes late." Nice to know. I came back again 10 minutes later and they rang the shuttle, spoke in Dutch and told me "5 minutes" 15 minutes later, still no shuttle. Finally, it arrives and it costs 2.50 more than the advertised price. I asked the driver if perhaps I ought to get a discount given he was half an hour late and I was in danger of missing my flight, whereupon he exploded in a rage about how HEM always cost him his tips by advertising the wrong price, and that the first phone call from HEM was only 15 minutes ago. Nice. HEM also shooed away our dinner deliveryman, claiming there were no guests staying in our room. I came down after the restaurant rang me to enlighten them as to our presence and was tersely asked why I didn't answer the room phone then? There was no phone in our room. I suspect they just didn't want to walk up stairs (on account of their broken elevator) to tell us it had arrived. Otherwise, their complete lack of awareness of our presence or phone shortage is rather amusing. Incidentally, as I was waiting for my ill-fated shuttle, another guest visited reception to complain about there being bugs in her room. My mother's sheets had small bloodstains on them from a previous guest who apparently had some bleeding sores on his or her feet and the sheets weren't well laundered afterwards. We Les mer

Definetly not a 3 star hotel. run down, dump and dark room, not warm and unfriendly

When we were checking into the hotel, the two girls in front of us at the front desk were explaining that someone had stolen jewelry out of their room. There was water pouring out of the ceiling in the hallway and when we told the front desk, no one seemed to care. Every time the room above us flushed the toilet, it sounded like someone was breaking […] into our hotel room. It woke us up a few times at first because we didn't know what it was. The restaurant/bar service was horrid. They forgot our order even though there were only about 10 people including us in the restaurant. When we tried to get the attention of the bartender, she said she was busy and couldn't help us right then. Our first night there we put the "do not disturb" sign on the door. The maid knocked the next morning. We yelled that we didn't want any service. She decided to come into the room anyway to make sure we didn't want service. It was very annoying. We were asleep. She wouldn't let us be even though we told her and hung the sign up. This happened every morning. Once, we weren't even dressed and she just opened the door anyway. It's a crappy hotel, but it's a hotel. The beds are hard, you get one kinda messed up pillow, and the comforters are not comfortable. The staff is ranges from always annoyed bartenders to pushy maids. But, it's not a hostel and it's relatively clean. You get what you pay for I guess. Les mer

Acceptable flop for a night, but keep your expectations low. The desk clerk was a nice man, with a good sense of humor, and the bartender was wonderful. The bartender Yvonne was an absolute joy. Arrived at hotel very late. No greeting. Could not call up my booking. Hotel not very helpfull. Smoking smell. Loud music. Not for children.

Don't pay money in advance for a booking at this hotel. Judging by the state it is in, it will go out of business very soon.

Hotel is decent for the price, but could be cleaner. Very close tithe TRAM that takes you directly to the center of Amsterdam.

THE HOTEL STAFF WAS RUDE SOONER PICK UP THE PHONE THAN BOOK US IN WE WERE THERE BEFORE PHONE RANG DIDN'T EXCUSE HERSELF LEFT US WAITING, AS FOR THE 2 TWIN ROOMS I PREBOOKED ONE WAS A CUBBY HOLE OF A ROOM WITH A BED TV COUPLE OF DRAWERS AND SOMETHING TO HANG CLOTHES IN THE SHOWER WAS FALLING APART DIRTY STAINED AND FLAKING SO SMALL YOU COULDN'T SWING […] A CAT IN IT.THAT WAS SUPPOSE TO BE TWIN BUT IT SINGLE WE THINK IT BELONG TO ONE OF THE LIVE IN PERSONS. Nice budget hotel. \very easy to access the center by tram. There is parking cheaper then the street parking. For the short trip to Amsterdam this is a good solution.

What a dump. The service was extremely slow, the bathroom was filthy with mold, beds lumpy, room smelled, had to pay to watch tv, we asked for a wake up call that never came, and then they wanted 14.50 euro pp for breakfast! Couldn't wait to leave. Oh, and the taxi from airport to hotel cost 50 euro and the taxi driver told us he would not recommend […] walking in the area of this hotel... not great neighborhood. Convenient to airport and city center except for late night. The room is great for the price.

The location was not as center as we were led to beleive, but the price was awesome for the service and the restaraunt was pretty tasty and decently priced!

I booked a specia" deal to stay in the Annexe. The Annexe appears to be a pile of potracabins bolted together, they may well be pensioned off Oil-platform accomodation pods. The common areas of the Annexe are really tired and dirty. The room itself looked OK and was superficially clean, but I had the misfortune to drop something and have to move a bed […] to get it back, and the filth under the bed was revolting. The bathroom was just disintergrating, evreything broken, sink, loo seat, shelf, and the toilet is so tightly squeezed in that it wasn't actually possible to sit on it. On the plus side the staff were very pleasant, and the bar and restaurant are fine, but there is no excuse for anything this bad being available to rent. Les mer

Me & my sister went to Amsterdam for a long weekend, staff wasn't friendly room was tiny just wasn't impressed with the hotel.

staff were good at all times. room was clean and quiet tram pass was a big bouns. food was good. been 4 times to amsterdam and bye far best hotel stayed in vaulue for money

THis was an annex room and cheap. It was outside of the main hotel. Room was hot and stuffy with no AC. Bed side lights didnt work and were hanging off the wall. Bathroom incredibly small and needs updating. The bedding was clean and the overall room itself could be improved. The beer and meals at the hotel were very expensive. Could not check in until 2 pm, the room was very dirty,the hotel staff wasn't friendly at all, and none of the doors around the building locked at night. I would not recommend this hotel.

Me and my friend came to Amsterdam and needed to book something last minute, When looking on the internet we found this Hotel...It was a good price and at the time of our arrival it was alot cheaper than hostels. a bit oput of the city (15minutes) but the tram fair is not expensive at all E2.40 one way.

Décalage énorme entre les photos d'internet et la réalité ! Lumière très faible, robinetterie et équipement de la salle de bain en mauvais état, odeur désagréable dans la chambre du probablement à la moquette. Chambre trop austère manque de la gaité.

Notre chambre n'etait pas prete et on nous a donne 2 chambres de 2 lits plutot qu'une grande chambre Le petit dejeuner est monstrueusement cher L'hotel est tres moyen

Vi havde en god tur til Amsterdam, men Hotellet var bestemt ikke noget at råbe hurra for.

Hotellet var under niveau for tre stjerner, vill måske være bedre med to. Gulvet på mit værelse var dårligt rengjort med to store plamager indtørret opkast, som jeg valgte at lægge håndklæder hen over. hovedpuderne var meget "klumpede" og særdeles ukomfortable at ligge med. Hotellets restaurant var ned i en noget skummelt beliggende kælder med meget […] støj, og jeg fil serveret KOLD pasta... ikke nogen rar oplevelse. Betjeningen i receptionen var venlig. Les mer

Hotel situé au bord du Ring, dans un quartier calme, sans charme particulier. Ma chambre donnait sur le ring, et je n'ai pas entendu les voitures de la nuit ! Les tarifs sont excellents par rapports à la prestation (15€ /p la nuit), a savoir le parking est à 12€ la nuit, et le tram est a 5 minutes à pieds (10 min pr la gare).

В отличие от посещенного 5 днями ранее отеля AALBORG, этот отель (Хем) оказался менее удобным в плане общественного транспорта. От остановки 2-го трамвая (30 мин езды от вокзала) еще идти 2 квартала. Здание нового типа, большое. Про бары не скажу, не пользовались. На рецепшне все быстро-четко. Номера хорошие, но нам попался очень холодный. Батарей отопления […] нет, есть тепловентилятор, греет плохо. Чисто. На террасе у входа народ вовсю курит косяки. Много молодёжи. Есть паркинг. Удобен в плане точки ночевки при автопутешествии. Vi vågnede første nat ved, at der var mus på værelset. Og badeværelset blev oversvømmet hver gang man var i bad. Plus at vi får at vide at parkering ved hotellet er en specifik pris for alle dage, og da vi så skal betale er prisen så pr per dag i stedet plus et gebyr oveni!! Det er slet ikke i orden og jeg vil ikke anbefale hotellet til nogen!!

A equipe de recepção foi simpática e prestativa, e pudemos usufruir de facilidades como internet wi fi e proximidade de um ponto de Tram. Uma ótima surpresa foi o bar no subsolo do hotel, onde fomos muito bem atendidos e nos divertimos bastante. Lá havia dj, jogos e o bartender nos proporcionou uma noite animadíssima.

A ducha da suite que eu estava hospedada era terrivel. Molhava todo o banheiro, e a agua saia para todos os lados menos para o que deveria sair. Uma noite cheguei no hotel e meu pijama que estava em cima da cama estava jogado em um canto do quarto. A escova de dentes que estava em cima da pia tambem estava no chão. Um descaso do staff do hotel.

Ingen varme og strøm den første nat. Da jeg gjorde dem opmærksomme på dette, sagde de at vi kunne få gratis morgenmad dagen efter og at de ikke kunne gøre noget nu...... vi skulle stadig betale for overnatningen........ De virker ret ligeglade generelt!!!
