This hotel is just allright, but I would not like to book this hotel for a longer period of time. The walls and the ceeling in our room had a small number of mosquitos squashed. Late at night we had the window open while we were sleeping, and we ended up with gigantic, annoying mosquito bites that lasted for 5 days. This has of course nothing to do […] with the hotel, this was just a warning against the ferocious dutch mosquitos, hehe. Anyways, the hotelstaff were quite polite and friendly, its easy to get to the center from this hotel, its outside the center but you just take the bus. head left of the hotel towards the river, follow the river left(north) continue until you see a buss stop on the first bridge which is wide enough for a buss. The buss leaves from Westlandgracht and goes all the way to the center. Well that was about it. As i said before, this is a completely OK, hotel to stay at, but I would not stay there for a longer period of time. Love - 2 Norwegians <3 :) Oh, and we were just staying two night in Amsterdam. HEM Hotel i Amsterdam ligger et godt stykke fra sentrum, i en nyere (80-90-talls?) bydel preget av lettere forslumming. Hotellet ligger greit til når man kommer med bil - men det er et par hundre meter til nærmeste trikkelinje inn til sentrum (ca 20-30 min trikketur til aktuelle attraksjoner) - Metroen ligger litt lengre unna, og gjør en lang runde […] før den når sentralstasjonen. Personalet var hyggelig og rommet vi fikk i utgangspunktet greit nok. Men det kom snart frem at lite og intet vedlikehold ble utført. Dusj og wc var mer eller mindre defekt. Mye av dette må man forvente på billige turisthotell - men her var forfallet så systematisk at det bør påpekes - for det blir garantert verre.. Men en hyggelig anbefaling: Ved den nærmeste trikkeholdeplassen lå en libanesisk restaurant. Den var Amsterdambesøkets høydepunkt. Rett og slett nydelig mat og hyggelig betjening. (Om ikke priser for dem som vil leve på sparebluss.) Les mer

Rimelig hotell med store, bekveme rom i rolige omgivelser. Frokost koster mye ekstra og er ikke vert prisen. Fant ikke noen kaféer eller restauranter i nærleken. Det fantes butikker som ikke hadde kveldsåpent. Dusjen sprøytet i "hytt og pine". Ca 10 min å gå til trikk og metro.

Vurderingen ovenfor er iht. romprisen som var svært lav. Som overnatinghotell i forbindelse med flyreise, hadde det vært smartere å velge et flyplasshotell med gratis transport, da t/r flyplass-hotell med taxi kostet 65 euro. Kan anbefales som rimelig overnatting for noen dagers besøk i Amsterdam !

Hotellet var absolutt verdt sine få kroner det kostet å overnatte der. Rommet var rent og pent og utenom at dusjen sprutet over hele badet var rommet absolutt helt ok. Den billige overnattingen kompenserte de nok i en dyr frokost for uvitende gjester. De var så lure at de ikke sa fra før vi var ferdig spist og pent måtte betale for oss. Jeg burde nok […] lest mine reisedokumenter bedre, men regnet bare med at frokosten var inkludert. Les mer

greit hotel i forhold til pris alt helt greit men vanskelig å finne. Et utrolig hyggelig personale i baren trekker opp!

Great hotel at a nice price. Tram 2, and youre already there.

Raskt med taxi fra flyplass til hotelet som kostet 30 euro. Veldig god frokost og hyggelig betjening som var hjelpsomme. Rommene var ok. Hotelet ligger i et stille og rolig omeråde.

OK hotell, men pass på å få rom i hovedbygningen vendt bort fra motorveien som går forbi. 20 min med trikk til sentrum

var et dårlig standard hotel, men det var flertall av hyggelige ansatte heldigvis. hotellet ligger et godt stykke utenfor sentrum så man er avhengig av trikken. (litt slitsomt) prisen var ok i forhold til standard.

Alle rom i fjerde etasje har egen heis som er svært trang, liten og som tar flere minutt å få tak i, samt laang tid å fraktes i. Rommene har åpning under inngangsdøren, så evt aktivitet i gangene høres godt. Laken og handklær var full av brune flekker fra tidligere bruk og som ikke hadde lyktes å fjerne i vask. Dobbeltsenga var to enkeltsenger på hjul... […] Frokosten var fantastisk og beliggenheten er i en herlig rolig del av byen. Flott supermarked få minutters gange unna. Jevn strøm av trikker tok oss til og fra byen. Billig hotellpris. Les mer

i don't recommend the annex, the toilet wasn't cleaned and the entre bathroom smellt of piss. the floor in shower was dirty and stained. electric light near the bed was held together by foil. also, the room had no aircondition and was really hot.

Det et eneste jeg orker å si om det hotelet etter den forferdelige oppholdet er at den siste kvelden til tross for at jeg ikke fikk pengene tilbake så tok jeg inn i et annet hotell, og betalt dobbelt den siste natten. lobbyen, så jeg 1 mus....små krypp i dusjen som, sluken i dusjen var tett, til tross for at jeg sa ifra om det. og folk prøvde bryte […] seg inn i rommet midt på natten... :-) det var det kuleste... lykketil! Vi fikk en meget god pris på dette hotellet og alt sett under ett er vi meget fornøyd. Hotellet har det du trenger. Restaurant, bar og en liten kiosk. Rommet vi fikk var stort og rent. Komfortable senger. Servicen var som man bør forvente. Kanskje et par smil hadde gjort seg i resepsjonen? Du kommer deg til hotellet ved å ta tog fra Shiphol til Centraal. […] Gå så ut og til høyre, der finner du tram 2. Be sjåføren si ifra når dere må gå av. De vet alle hvor HEM hotel er. Reisetiden med tram som er ca. 25 minutter, er eneste minuset slik jeg ser det. Les mer

Essentially as advertised, but no better. Out of the way location, grim hallways and the rooms aren't much better. Shower backed up and flooded the bathroom. I was glad I was staying just one night, but no big complaints.

Be carefull!!! I got 8x8 room with four beds!-instead of baby crib(as my daughter is was only 2 months) I got another bed. I had to share my little single bed with her as I really couldnt leave her on bed by herself. Also, water was leaking from the bathroom to underneat out beds, no fridge, no microwave, no coffee, nothing.... Heater was blowing cold […] air, we had to ask to get another heater and that was not worth the money we paid at all!!! Poeple at the front desk wasnt too freindly at all. their helper was more friendly then people at the reception! I give it ONE STAR!!! Also, said no Smoking, yea right :( Hallways and rooms smell like smoke! That is all. Will not stay there again. Les mer

The place is generally clean although the interior looked a little aged. Location is not exactly in city center but is fine - not too far away from tram stop. And you can take the tram from there to pretty much most of the attractions.

The smell of drugs saturated the entire hotel. The majority of the guests were young adults (-23). The hotel staff were unprofessional, not helpful at all, and down right rude. Our room was a very long way from the check in desk. Everything extra cost about 3 times what it should have. It is located in a sketchy neighborhood. And I am pretty sure that […] the entire operation is a drug front. On the plus side, the hotel was cost efficient, the room was clean and comfortable, the hot water was plentiful and the water pressure was great. I would not stay there again unless I only had fifty dollars to my name and had no other alternative aside from a hostel. I would not suggest staying there if you are a mature person, or if you don't do drugs. Les mer

It was a great stay. This is an excellent hotel for the budget-conscious traveler. FAST internet connection.

I paid a decent fee for a nights stay and didn't expect to be treated quite as badly by the stuff. The hotel was in a middle of a construction site and after circling for a while I just walked and asked for directions to the parking lot around the construction. The stuff was not able to give me proper direction. When I came back at night my key didn't […] open the door to my room and it took quite some running up and down the stairs and asking the stuff for help, before I finally could make it into my room. In the morning I asked for direction to the airport. The stuff told me off quite rudely, as if that was such an unusual question. He simply told me that the highway was straight ahead, also it was rather complicated to get on it and it was not the correct highway to shiphol airport. Fortunately I got other help, or I would most certainly have missed my plane to Boston. You most certainly will not see me in the HEM hotel again. Les mer

We arrived, someone else had been in our room , ie, bed messed up. Then nothing worked , ie ,hairdryer , had to hire hairdryer as they said no hairdryers in room, surprise next room had hairdryer that worked., tv, shower. Had to make a fuss to change rooms, next room was not quite as bad, lights in shower melted through cavity. 15-20 mins from centre […] of Amsterdam by tram. Would never recommend this hotel to anyone. Not even 1 star Les mer

The hotel was not well maintained. Too hot in room and A/C was busted. Room was dusty and moldy/ bad smell. Warning: Amsterdam is too expensive

Close to Tram 2 route and grocery store. Rooms and hotel were not very clean. Service was bad. Slightly better than a hostel. I do not recommend.

Though the staff were friendly and it wasn't located in the 'roughest' part of Amsterdam, it was located a bit far from what we wanted to see. Hard to find as well if you are not a local. Tucked away down a street in between dodgy looking buildings. Tram stop is close by but it stops running at night so you'd have to work out an alternate bus route […] back making the end of nights out a bit awkward. Wouldnt recommend it for women travelling alone because some of the residents of the area were a bit weird. Was approached by a man on a bike asking for money. He followed us for a while til the local police intervened. Were doing renovations on inside of hotel making it look and sound like a construction zone. Bathroom was small and there were lots of big stains on carpet. In the end though it is just a place to sleep. Amsterdam is a lovely place! Les mer

Took a bit of finding and had very hostel feeling. Staff were polite and attentive however we had lights hanging from sockets in our bathroom which was a bit alarming. I suppose you get what you pay for as this is no frills on outside of Amsterdam. It is quite close to Tram 2 stop which takes you directly into Amsterdam

advise to take a bus

this is a great hotel just outside the busy hub of amsterdam. The staff are always nice and the rooms are clean. The only thing to let down our visit is there was construction works just beside our window so we were always up early

Was I satisfied with my stay at the HEM. I’d say yes indeed. The HEM is one block from the tram so access to public transportation (GVB) is a breeze. Once you’re on the GVB anywhere in Amsterdam is at your finger tips. Our shower was the best. Small space for a shower, but the hot water pressure was splendid and endless. More than making up for the […] size. Our room (room 357) was facing the highway, which I was upset with at first but then I realized the highway emits very little noise thanks to the sound buffer wall. I could barely hear it from my open window. So at first I didn’t like room 357, I grew to love it. It has great exposure to the sun, the window opens all the way, it is at the end of the hallway so foot traffic by your door is low. In fact I’d suggest requesting room 257, 357 or 457 as they all share these benefits. The downside to the hem is that they charge you for WIFI, and for using the lobby computer. The coffee they sell in the lobby is expensive, small and not so great. The hotel halls and amenities are in mediocre condition. The room was decent but the hall ways and elevators were another story. Not a big deal, but worth mentioning. Overall a grade B hotel. At a decent price. Les mer

Lots of horrible insects in the mattress. We were bitten seriously there and cannot sleep for the whole night. Terrible experience.

No customer service at all. Chek in time is very late at 2pm and they won't check you in a minute earlier than that. They'll make you wait until exactly 2pm even if your room is ready before that. I ask to borrow a bowl to take to my room and they refused. Very dirty. Stains all over the carpet on common areas and in rooms.

Reception looks like a jumble sale. Rooms are clean but are also tired and smell of smoke. Amsterdam is not very big so whilst the location is not central it is adequate. The hotel is however surrounded by housing estates and the Amsterdam ring-road so it's not exactly scenic. The hotel is very cheap and hence this mainly attracts students and large […] groups of men who spend most of the time drinking and smoking outside the front of the hotel. In summary, if all you want from a hotel is a bed, toilet and a shower, then this place is an option. HEM Hotel is not a place to relax and unwind! Les mer

no hot water, no efficient heater, blocked sink.....

I had an awful experience at the HEM hotel. Most of the amenities were out of service at one time or another: if it wasn't the lift, it was the water or the internet or the electrical system. There were some incredibly rude staff there, but also some very nice ones. The room, despite being non-smoking, stank like a smoker's moustache. It was really […] awful. When we complained we were handed a bottle of woman's deodorant to spray in the room. It didn't help, and you can't open the window as it's bolted shut. They also said they had booked my shuttle to the airport. So I dutifully sat there waiting. When I asked where it was, I was told "It's often 15 minutes late." Nice to know. I came back again 10 minutes later and they rang the shuttle, spoke in Dutch and told me "5 minutes" 15 minutes later, still no shuttle. Finally, it arrives and it costs 2.50 more than the advertised price. I asked the driver if perhaps I ought to get a discount given he was half an hour late and I was in danger of missing my flight, whereupon he exploded in a rage about how HEM always cost him his tips by advertising the wrong price, and that the first phone call from HEM was only 15 minutes ago. Nice. HEM also shooed away our dinner deliveryman, claiming there were no guests staying in our room. I came down after the restaurant rang me to enlighten them as to our presence and was tersely asked why I didn't answer the room phone then? There was no phone in our room. I suspect they just didn't want to walk up stairs (on account of their broken elevator) to tell us it had arrived. Otherwise, their complete lack of awareness of our presence or phone shortage is rather amusing. Incidentally, as I was waiting for my ill-fated shuttle, another guest visited reception to complain about there being bugs in her room. My mother's sheets had small bloodstains on them from a previous guest who apparently had some bleeding sores on his or her feet and the sheets weren't well laundered afterwards. We Les mer

Definetly not a 3 star hotel. run down, dump and dark room, not warm and unfriendly

When we were checking into the hotel, the two girls in front of us at the front desk were explaining that someone had stolen jewelry out of their room. There was water pouring out of the ceiling in the hallway and when we told the front desk, no one seemed to care. Every time the room above us flushed the toilet, it sounded like someone was breaking […] into our hotel room. It woke us up a few times at first because we didn't know what it was. The restaurant/bar service was horrid. They forgot our order even though there were only about 10 people including us in the restaurant. When we tried to get the attention of the bartender, she said she was busy and couldn't help us right then. Our first night there we put the "do not disturb" sign on the door. The maid knocked the next morning. We yelled that we didn't want any service. She decided to come into the room anyway to make sure we didn't want service. It was very annoying. We were asleep. She wouldn't let us be even though we told her and hung the sign up. This happened every morning. Once, we weren't even dressed and she just opened the door anyway. It's a crappy hotel, but it's a hotel. The beds are hard, you get one kinda messed up pillow, and the comforters are not comfortable. The staff is ranges from always annoyed bartenders to pushy maids. But, it's not a hostel and it's relatively clean. You get what you pay for I guess. Les mer

Acceptable flop for a night, but keep your expectations low. The desk clerk was a nice man, with a good sense of humor, and the bartender was wonderful. The bartender Yvonne was an absolute joy. It was unfortunate that I had to pinch an electric space heater from a hallway for my room, and that the neighborhood was a bit scary. Thirty to 35 Euros taxi […] fare from the airport. Les mer

Arrived at hotel very late. No greeting. Could not call up my booking. Hotel not very helpfull. Smoking smell. Loud music. Not for children.

Don't pay money in advance for a booking at this hotel. Judging by the state it is in, it will go out of business very soon.
