Hawks Cay Resort - Duck Key

Hawks Cay er en fantastisk resort. Hyggelige ansatte som ser ut til å trives i jobben og som er interessert i å gjøre alt for at du som gjest skal ha det bra. Rent og pent! Mange flotte bassenger og en deilig lagune. Passe med aktiviteter for barna og ikke noe stress. Kan trygt anbefale dette hotellet. Veldig glad for at vi valgte dette fremfor Cheeca […] Beach og Tranquility Bay som vi også vurderte. Blir nok Hawks Cay neste vinterferie også ;-) Et tips: vi kombinerte turen med Disney World i Orlando og kjørte bil ned - den turen var litt for drøy. Det tok ca. 6-7 timer, så anbefaler fly (til Marathon Airport MTH, som er ca. 15-20 min fra Hawks Cay med taxi) - evt. droppe hele Orlando og fly rett inn til Miami (fra Miami tar det litt over to timer med bil). Onsite dinning very expensive and the bar makes horrible drinks

This is a beautiful location and a very classy hotel. I went with my wife and two sons aged 14 and 11. It was, by a long way, the most expensive hotel I booked on our 3 week vacation so I was expecting great things. Hotel.com description of the room stated 'Private balcony overlooking tropical garden. Partial water view from the upper floors.' There […] was a private balcony, but with no view at all - just bushes masking any view literally yards away from the balcony. When I queried this, the manager said we had been given the correct room and could not change it (although she was most professional). The dolphin swim attached to the hotel was outstanding and a really superbly organised. The air con kept us awake most of the night, but that was no different from most of the hotels we stayed in. The lagoon is wonderful and the atmosphere great - we ate in the bar area of the main restaurant and had a very delicious pizza. The restaurant did not make it clear that there were two separate menus - one for the bar area and one for the main restaurant - the cost varied considerably! My biggest disappointment was the fact the resort was extremely busy and slightly overcrowded but I would definitely recommend it as a lovely place to stay. Les mer

Traveled to this resort with 2 families. They had something for everyone including an adult pool and activities for all ages. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We took the snorkel excurision and saw lots of fish on a colorful reef. Also did the Dolphin Encounter. Hotels's customer service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. I am very thankful with us for help at any time.

I was looking for a few days of sun and relaxation, and I got it. It was just my husband and me. It was nice to have an adults only pool, and the firepit at night was great! It was quiet, even though there were kids swimming at night. It did not bother me. We also were able to golf at Sombrero Country Club. Not worth the price by any means, but it was […] nice to golf on vacation:) Marathon is about 20 min away for off-site food. It is quite expensive at the hotel. Also, there is no oceanfront swimming of any kind. The lagoon looks great in the pictures, but not that great in person. After 3 days there, we were ready to leave. I could not imagine a long trip there. However, I would definitely go back. I enjoyed my time. Les mer

Loved everything but the food, which was mediocre.

A great place for a family. the activities just don't stop. Dolphins, sport fishing, dinners on the sand, a great pool. the list goes on. The only drawback is the options for eating. Dinner options are the toughest. Would go again for sure

Friendly staff, beautiful location and very comfortable, clean room. We enjoyed a glass of wine by the fire pit each night. We also spent time on the private outdoor patio/deck from our room - but there needs to be some lighting out there.

We spent the first few days driving to other keys, etc., but then we mellowed out and stayed around the pool at Hawk's Cay - very relaxing. Check out the Dolphin pool!

This was our first time at Hawks Cay. We were there for Christmas. Very relaxing and a beautiful place. We stayed in a suite over looking the large pool and lagoon. The resort provides daily activities for those with children. We were worried about the noise level, but the rooms are rock solid and when you close your sliding door off the balcony, you […] can't hear any outside noise. The staff was courteous and friendly. Dining on the property for lunch was a bit pricey, but we found dinner at Alma comparable in price to other fine dining establishments here at home. The food there was excellent. We stayed mostly on the property and enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere. There is plenty to do at the pier if you enjoy snorkeling, diving, or just fishing. The small grocery store came in handy and is within walking distance, or you can take the trolley. We will definitely go again and take other family members with us as well. Les mer

Roughly halfway between K Largo and K West, the location of the hotel is fairly remote. But visitors will be rewarded by the relative isolation and tranquil setting of Duck Key. It's a resort with many activities. But you need to pay to use them - kayaking, biking, dolphin petting, kids night, etc are all extras. Its not included in the compulsory […] $25 resort fee. Some items like video games, golf putting, a few arcade games, parking, wifi are free. Pools - and there are around 6 of them, are great and well maintained. In fact, the grounds and common areas are top notch. Sitting by the outdoor fire pit, staring at the sea, with shorts and no shirt during the N American winter is sublime By comparison, the rooms and toilet therein are dated. They are well maintained and clean, but in a mid eighties kind of setting. We stayed a night, and we like this hotel. I would have given the hotel 5 stars in service, but for their restaurant (think its call Alma). We had a booking and there were empty seats, but the restaurant staff told us we couldn't be seated because their kitchen cannot handle the volume. I mean, what does it say about teir operational planning and management when the kitchen can't service the seating capacity? In summary, while I wouldn't eat there, I will still stay there and in fact recommend you do, should you be passing that way. The pools and activities more than made up for the outdated room decor. Excellent Resort. Only surprise was a $200 per day hold on my credit card for incidental expenses during my stay. I found this to be insulting. As a result, we spent as little money at the resort as possible.

Very friendly,attentive staff.Beautiful grounds and outdoor pool area.Nice tennis courts .We are off property,maybe next time we will check out there food.

Liked everything about our stay except for prices of food and drink and the mandatory 18% gratuity on everything, even a cup of coffee. Cocktails were close to $13, ridiculous and the food was way over priced. I'd recommend eating at one of the many local restaurants which were half the cost. I read some reviews that said the service was terrible, not true. It's not 5 star but it's pretty good. Location is great, plenty of pools but not a lot of restautants and bars. If you're planning to stay over several days you will need to go out of the to other places to avoid eating the same menu over a number of days, but you have Islamorada nearby […] where you will find other places to eat and drink. The walls in the room are a little thin so will be able to hear other people speaking as well as toilets being flushed, but it's not too bad. There isn't an actual beach but rather an enclosed salt water lagoon which is pretty nice. Overall, a nice and comfortable place to stay for the price, considering what other places in the area charge. Les mer

We booked a three night mini family vacation hoping for the implied quality of this hotel. Upon checking in at 8:20 pm I asked the front desk attendant the hours of operation for the restaurants at the resort as well as the availability of room service. He cheerfully replied that the restaurants were open until 10 pm and room service was available until […] 11. We went to the room in order to drop off our bag and unpack. At 9 we walked over to the restaurant only to be told that it closes at 9. We then went back to the room and dialed room service as we did not see any menus to find out what our dining options were. We were told that room service is limited to pizza, salads and soda's. Obviously not what we expected. The next day we went to the main pool and let me assure you that the scene was like something out of a movie. kids were running around, screaming, splashing and the parents were categorically ignoring the obvious. Our five year old stood there with her mouth open as did we because this was the "adult" pool. We ended up going to the children's pool area where it was empty and quite. We went back to our room late afternoon only to find that maid service had not come to clean the room. I again called the front desk and asked for maid service to which I was told that waterfront villas don't get daily maid service. To put this into perspective, the 2 bedroom waterfront suite (top of the line room) does NOT GET A DAILY CLEANING!!! I asked about getting clean towels and the answer was "you have a washing machine in the room". I have travelled around the world, (Eastern Europe, western Europe, Central Europe, South America, Central America, Southeast Asia, china, Japan, canada, mexico etc,,,) I have never experienced a greater misrepresentation of services then at Hawks Cay. Dolphins aside, very few redeeming qualities. Don't waste your money Les mer

Don't spend the extra $$ for the villas which are triple the rate of Hawks Cay hotel room. Why? No room service from restaurants, little housekeeping if any -- they just remove kitchen trash bag each day. Villas require LONG walk to main hotel. Villas appear large online but Hawks Cay squeezes in 2 bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths + living, dining, and kitchen […] -- you can barely turn around in the restrooms and the bedrooms are so tiny you need to walk sideways to go around the bed. This hotel charges a $25 daily resort fee not included in rate. Restaurant food is very good and so are the drinks. Bell service and housekeepers friendly and helpful, but front desk staff seems bothered most of the time and is mostly behind the wall located at Front Desk -- never at desk. Also -- Hawks Cay has LOTS of rules, just not very carefree. One more thing, 75% of the resort are condo's or timeshare so you have lots of guests that "live" there full time and frequent the bars -- drinking loudly I might add. Plus the southern tip of Miami dumps all there landlocked residents so be prepared for LOUD families speaking or shall I say singing a chopped crazy grunty dialect of Spanish (sounds awful if you speak spanish which I do). Also in the two bedroom villas -- both on either side of us -- 9 guest in each, I assume head checks are not part of Hawks Cay rule. Les mer

The resort has made several improvements over the years. Some are obvious and others more subtle. They have all seem to come together now along with a much better customer service geared approach to the resort goer. Great Resort but pricey.

Our visit to this hotel was more of scouting out sites to take our kids in the future. This is a great place for families. As a couple we were able to go to the adult pool, which we loved. Very lovely communiity. Only two comments: food choices are minimal. Pool for kids would be small during peak season. Staff was very friendly!

This is a beautiful resort. The staff are pleasant, helpful, and quick to respond to any issues you may have. It is on and one half hours away from Key West which makes it difficult to enjoy all of the tourist attractions located there.

At first glance this hotel looks like a great place at a good price, but don't be fooled. We have received better service at much cheaper places. We sat at the bar to 5 minutes before one of the two bartenders even looked at us, and the next night we ate a poorly stocked buffet at the poolside grill that was way too expensive and not very good. I almost […] forgot, they automatically at 18% gratuity to every bill. I guess this explains why the staff isn't trying really hard. This is our favorite resort and our third stay. They have many great activities for kids. The staff was friendly and helpful. There are pools for adults and kids. The salt water system instead of chlorine is so much better for the skin. There's a lagoon where kids can kayak also. The landscaping around the hotel is just beautiful.

The location is beautiful and the resort itself is fine with lots to do. The hotel service leaves much to be desired. We stayed for 8 days and housekeeping missed 3 days completely. When we called, they said they were busy and short staffed. We had to call and ask for towels as they took the towels and never replaced them. The rooms have Keurig coffee […] makers but no supplies such as coffee or cups. Be careful as they add 18% on everything as a service charge, not just food and drinks. Lots of great restaurants in Marathon to enjoy outside the resort. Sparky's Landing is a must. Les mer

Our family of four just returned from five days at Hawks Kay. We were very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the resort. The rooms were roomy and clean with high quality sheets and towels as well as nice fresh duvet covers (no dirty bedspreads). We stayed over Christmas 2010 and just relaxed and enjoyed. The temps were a little chilly, but the pool was warm and the beer was cold. The staff couldn't have been nicer and more accommodating. You will enjoy this place!

We had a great time at Duck's Cay. I especially want to thank Brent at the front desk who did a great job! We had a airconditioning unit that was really loud and he switched our room quickly and was extremely professional and great to deal with. We will be back!

Could have been a good experience but for the rude and minipulating person at the registration desk. Not a good representative of the hotel and the manager doesn't seem to care about guest relations. Would not return and would not recommend.

This was a very nice resort, super clean, very comfortable, family and adult oriented, lots of areas to do things even with 2 days of rain. The hotel has a no tipping policy and put it as a service charge on your bill before you even start. Unfortunately I felt that is part of the problem with the resort, is everybody is there to help you, and are courteous […] about it, but they just don't have that happy, smiling, god I am so glad I am here for you. The only place I had that wow experience was at the beach grill where we had lunch 1 day and back again for drinks the next. We ate at the terrace grill and the waitress made it seem like I wanted the most outrageous thing when I requested a stella from the bar next door literally 15 feet away. The money flows very easily here and would gladly pay anything if I felt it was appreciated more. Great place, Great facilities, just needs to give the wow factor for people to come back over and over. Les mer

Hawks Cay is a wonderful resort as far as location, fascility and service staff. We did have a few complaints, however: Upon check-in we were shown to a room under repair. The second room had an inferior view. Although the room rate was high, there were no free amenities included as with other similarly priced resorts. No water toys, welcome cocktail […] party/BBQ, or coffee in the room or even in the lobby ( lobby coffee was $3.50 + 18% grat). An 18% gratuity was automatically added to all food & beverage service regardless of menu/buffet. Prices at the hotel were high and an 18% auto tip, especially for buffets was irritating. Les mer

The managers and employees of Hawks Cay have apparently never of the slogan "the customer comes first." They were constantly aloof, obstinate, and even malicious in our stay there. Our five night stay began horribly. The check-in clerk was alarmingly unfriendly and refused to help us when we inquired about the hotel's previously unannounced policy of […] placing a $200/night hold on our credit card. Somehow, when we finally spoke with a manager (after 2-3 hours on the phone and at the check-in desk), he was equally apathetic to our concerns. This record of poor customer service was continued throughout the stay. Nonetheless, the hotel itself is quite nice. My girlfriend and I really enjoyed the "tranquility" pool, which is situated far from the main, family-oriented pool. The peaceful environment was quite conducive to reading and relaxing. Overall, we did have a good time at Hawks Cay, though that came despite rather than because of the customer service. Les mer

We had a great stay. Rob, the valet from NJ was awesome. He was friendly and courteous and always offering water to us. The room was nice, clean and comfortable. We didn't stay too much at the resort because we were house shopping with a realtor. We did get to enjoy one beautiful day at the pool in a very secluded spot facing the East breeze, watching […] the boats go by :) Morning breakfast was delivered promptly by room service every morning. Would definitely stay again and recommend to others. Les mer
