We enjoyed our vacation at Na Balam! The location was perfect, right on the beach at Playa Norte. The sunsets was breathtaking! Service was good, the restaurant at the hotel had a great loaction and good food. Maybe it could be open longer than 22-2300, or have possibility to bay water and drinks longer (if we shall be picky) However there was little […] people there at night. And that was lovely - that it was so silent. It would helped if the room would have had a little fridge, then we could have had something for the nights after the kids was in bed. We was there with two small kids and it was very suitable for kids. Nice beach where the kids safely could play in the sand and water. The service was good and friendly both in the reception and at the restaurant. I dident have time (with two small kids) to enjoy the massage and the spa, but maybe another time. For me the beds was a little to hard. Thanks for a wonderful vacation. One thing that was a little irritating was when we where checking out - they asked about a little wooden thing that missed from the bathroom - for the toiletpaper holder. We hadent seen it, and asked if they wanted money for it., and I was stanading there with open wallet with the taxi waiting. She could not answear, and I said I need a answear now!....for we shall reach the ferry for reaching our bus... She could not answear - started to talk on the poune to find out. I said Miss - we have to go NOW - do you want us to pay for it, we can do that, but you have to say that now. She did not manage to answear (she did say it is not her, but they asked about the wooden thing) . I said sorry we have to go now. So we just left. We had left plenty of tips to the cleaners and to the reception, and it would cost them 5 pesos to fix it. So the last 5 minutes took it a little bit down. Gave a bad last impression, However it take not down the whole experience. It was a lovely place to live and spend our vacation. She was probably new and in need of so Les mer

The staff was helpful and always pleasant. The grounds were always well maintained. They are building a new entrance and this will give them a much needed face lift. But you can't beat the location on north beach. Hands down this is the best beach on the island. Loved being able to walk outside and right onto their beach. Although the restaurant and […] hotel are "divorced," the continental breakfast of fruit platter and toast was perfect to start the day with a big cup of coffee on the edge of the ocean. The beach is absolutely fabulous. The hotel is ok, rooms and everything's fine, but the real gem of this place is its extremely comfortable beach side. They provide great chaise-longues to enjoy the pleasant caribbean surroundings in a rustic but very comfortable setting, and the beach is not crowded, you can always find a nice place where to lie down […] and relax. The sunsets are awesome and you can enjoy them from the restaurant right there, which provides great cocktails and very good free wi-fi. And by the way, Isla Mujeres is a much better option than Cancun if you're over 30, just take the ferry and in half an hour you have your own little piece of paradise, as oppose to the horribly crowded modern, noisy and highly urbanised Cancun. We love Na Balam! We have gone there for many years (the last few years taking a break). We came back and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The staff, the room, the beach - all great! Been coming to Isla Mujeres for 24 years and always wanted to stay at Na Balam but it was always out of our price range. Decided to splurge and were sadly disappointed. Location is the best but other than the lovely breakfast there were no other amenities. It was a room with a bed, a bath and a safe- that's it. We had to tote water from the market- […] a giant pain. We were on the ground floor "ocean view" (there was no ocean view). We had been dreaming of sleeping to the sound of the surf and the breeze but didn't feel comfortable sleeping with the door to ground level wide open. Such a shame. We asked to change to an upper level room each day but were told by a surly attendant at the counter nothing was available (this was in low season). My advice: book a place with at least a fridge, water, coffee and a balcony and you'll be much happier. Spend the money you save on a few nice meals and cocktails in town instead. Les mer

Hotel staff was not really welcoming. My husband asked someone at the front desk to make a call and confirm our pick up time from our shuttle service and they really did not want to call for us. Great beach location, the entire hotel reminded me of Mexico before the all inclusives took over, back in the day. No tv or telephone in the very sparsely appointed room (not even a cushion on the chairs), or a picture on the wall. That said, the view of the beach through the palm trees made up for it. Lots of construction going on, for a long time, […] it appeared. Front desk people ranged from cheerful/helpful to surly/dismissive. The restaurant staff was generally pleasant/helpful. If there is a next time, I might buy a small coffee pot for the room. No phone, so no coffee until 7:30 or so, when they have it ready. Room service "forgot" us on Saturday, despite several requests/reminders. Similarly, I thought I had arranged for transport from the airport, but they forgot that, too, with no explanation, but we were easily able to figure it out on our own. Les mer

Fantastic, peaceful location on a beautiful lake. Staff are very professional, polite and helpful. Rooms are in good, clean condition. However, the grounds could be better presented and maintained.Really enjoyed using the free equipment including kayaks and pedalo. Food was nice and not too pricey.

The wait staff was very friendly but the service not so great. The people at the front desk were not very helpful and do not know how to market the place. It seems like they are still living the dream of a past economy or that the beach will sell the hotel. In many hotels I have stayed, the front desk does a lot more than give you towels and excuses. […] Wi-Fi only at the front desk area with very uncomfortable benches. The hotel owners are trying but the front desk staff needs to be seriously retrained. Hotel has a lot of potential but it is not living to it. Somebody needs to give this place an injection of better service. The place could be magnificent if properly managed. The menus at the hotel restaurant were old and beat up and did not do the food any justice for local fare. The only good thing about it is the beach, but it gets attacked daily with a mixed bag of drunken tourist on cheap booze cruises and and people who buy a snorkeling trips and do not know how to swim. I wanted to take my daughter someplace special for our birthdays. Our first vacation, just us...We chose the hotel partly for the yoga classes on site. Also, Isla Mujeres is off the beaten path, yet fairly convenient to get to. The hotel was everything I hoped for and more. Our room was facing the ocean on the upper level. The room was comfortable, […] once we figured out the AC, and very nice but not fancy. Even the bed was comfortable and we slept well every night. The yoga classes were fabulous. We signed up for a 5 class package and took a class each morning. The classes were an hour and a half + and we got lots of personal instruction. We spent most days on the beach and in the patio section of Zazil Ha. I liked the pit group area that lets you be close to the beach but out of the sun. Also has internet access. And the food was wonderful...great green detox drink, fabulous margaritas....We also walked into town for several meals, a short walk, great shopping and restaurants. The staff at the hotel were very friendly...I can't say enough about it. One more thing, the Fenix Restaurant was also great also on site. Relatively speaking, it was very affordable and well worth every cent. Can't wait to go back. Les mer

Na Balam got some underserved poor scores. The location happened to be the best location on the island (as far as beaches go), and fairly convenient to excitement of down town. The grounds were spectacular, and for such a reasonable price. Front desk and beach bar staff were not amazing, but not bad either. They could do some training on customer service […] in order to make it a more magical experience, but all in all, it was acceptable service. Les mer

We loved staying at Na Balam. It was exactly what we were looking for... The beach is beautiful and very relaxing. From our estimation, this was the best hotel on the North Beach. We prefer smaller, more boutique-style hotels, so this fit the bill. The other hotels along the beach are much larger and much more crowded/loud. And they didn't look as "nice." […] Their new restaurant "Fenix" is just beautiful!! The proximity to town is great--just a short walk. The rooms were what we expected--nothing special. We stayed in a beach-view room and we were very glad we did that. It is definitely worth the upgraded price. Since we didn't expect a luxurious room, we weren't disappointed. The rooms are very basic. The service at breakfast was very slow...very slow...but since breakfast is on the beach, with a beautiful view and we were on vacation, we didn't particularly mind. Also, this is an island in Mexico...so we didn't expect to have the speedy service one is accustomed to in the U.S. And this suited us just fine. The scuba/snorkeling company that is set up at Na Balam is great! Don't book with anyone else, even if you can find slightly cheaper rates in town. The guides are great and it's very convenient to be able to walk out of our hotel room and get on the boat and go. So, overall, we absolutely loved, loved Na Balam. If we stay on Playa Norte again, we will definitely book with Na Balam. Les mer

Totally enjoyed our stay. Rooms are clean and basic (ok). The location is fabulous right on the beach. The beach was fabulous. the restaurant made a nice cappuccino. We loved our stay and would stay here again.

The room was big and and very comfortable, we had a small private pool, and a see view. the hotel located on one of the prettiest beaches at Isla Mujeres, We had a really really good time there. The only thing I can think it of that they should improve, In our opinion the food wasn't great, the drinks are ok. We got married 4 years ago at the Na Balam and although they have made changes to the main areas - we still absolutely love this hotel. If you are not one for relaxing and enjoying romantic time with your mate, then you might want to look elsewhere. They have added onto the dining area and have a new bar called Fenix - which is ran by two lovely people […] (Eric and Jackie). They do have a new manager, Francesco and he did a great job in checking with us to make sure our stay was everything we expected. Rooms are still same, however, very clean and well maintained. I saw some people say things were outdated - people - it is Mexico!!! If you want granite and fluffy pillows then stay at a hotel in Cancun. Having said that, we LOVE Isla and wouldn't imagine staying anywhere else!!!!!! Great job Na Balam!!! Les mer

We had a lovely stay - our third year in a row. The setting is gorgeous with lots of lush green palm trees and plants looking out to the beach and the turquoise water. The prices are very reasonable considering the setting and room size. The food at the restaurant was excellent. A bit pricier that some restaurants in town but the menu is a bit more […] creative and the food is fresh, healthy and well presented. Easy access to town - less than a ten minute walk to everything - tons of restaurants and shops - the best thing is that downtown is close enough but far enough away that there is no noise. I would highly recommend Na Balam. Les mer

This is the second time I have stayed here. If you like simple but tasteful rooms, without TV etc, in a superb location on right on North Beach, this hotel takes a lot of beating. The hotel has a new chef this year, and the food is excellent.

The only complaint I have is there was no hot water in the shower. The food is excellent, the staff is absolutely lovely, and the hotl couldnt be more relaxing!

Na Balam is located within a lush tropical garden on the most beautiful beach in the world. My room was on a corner and I awoke to soft Caribbean breezes and a view of both garden and sea. The bed was comfortable and the ambiance of the room was calming. I swam in the warm sea during the day and a serene garden pool at night. Every member of the staff […] was warm and welcoming. I had some of the best meals of my life in the restaurant Zazil Ha which is right on the beach and serves a lovely continental breakfast that you eat while gazing across the etherial turquoise waters surrounding beautiful Isla Mujeres. Bed was hard as a ROCK, really. No TV or phones in room. No refridgerator or microwave in room, which would have greatly decreased what we had to spend to eat out. Beach at this hotel is awesome- best on the island. This hotel has a great pool and is very secluded/private, we had the pool to ourself almost every day. Airconditioning works very well […] and was nice to have to get out of humidity. Very nice place to eat connected to hotel where you can eat right on the beach and watch the sunset every night. This is a great hotel if you have kids, beach water is shallow and calm, playground with swings and slide that is shaded and right on beach, lots of shaded lounge chair on the beach. If this hotel upgraded it's beds and added a fridge and microwave I would rate it a 5 out of 5. Hotel manager was excellent- we had a small issue and he quickly resolved the problem and he was very friendly and professional. This hotel is located just blocks from all the excitement from downtown and a easy few minute walk. I would go back to this hotel. Les mer

This hotel has a wonderful beach, is quiet and relaxing whether you stay on the pool or beach side. Not much shade on the beach side and either you are in a chair or laying on wooden platform with foam mattress. The hammock stretched across the patio outside the door to each unit makes entry and exit awkward. If you prefer a soft bed do not stay here, […] the mattresses are on concrete platforms. They are so hard, glad we were only there for a couple of nights. Our reservation was for a king bed but the hotel had us down for two doubles, they blamed the mix up on Hotels.com. Even showing our printed receipt wasn't helpful because they don't have very many king bed rooms. Also golf cart rental is a plus for getting around the island. There are several companies to choose from even one a half a block from the ferry. Les mer

I loved so much about Na Balam. The ocean side room with a balcony was clean and spare. The hotel was beautiful. The location was spectacular. In general, I found the restaurant/beach service to be indifferent. Neither of the yoga classes I took were very good. Nonetheless, I would absolutely go back.

Very nice, beautiful ambiance, gorgeous beach, and good restaurant. Staff was very helpful and friendly. The room was very clean. However, would be much better if the window screens in the room were replaced, leaving no gaps or holes for mosquitos. I could only open one window at night because of this. Also, the one door had a significant gap at the […] bottom, which I plugged with a towel every night so bugs could not enter. Bed was comfortable & clean, newer mattresses and chair pads would be nice. Bathroom and vanity area was spotless and comfortable. New window curtians that covered entire windows should be added. We really enjoyed the location of Na Balam. The hotel itself is great for us, we like the small quaint out of the way places. Very peaceful and serene atmosphere. The hotel sits on a perfect stretch of a nice, wide beach. The restaurant staff were not too friendly but the beach service attendants were great! We were placed in an updated room which had […] modern fixtures in the bathroom area. No dresser but the closet had a shelf that we were able to store some of our clothes. We did have a small safe in our closet but we were able to secure some of the larger items at the front desk. We would definitely return to Na Balam! Les mer

This was our second time at this hotel and it was just as beautiful as we remembered. Through the hotel the rooms are pretty pricy but we got a great deal through expedia. The beach is the best in all of isla mujeres. We will be back for sure.

The most beautiful spot on the island.! We would go into town for activities but then come back to our beautiful, quiet resort for the perfect sunsets and delicious dinners just steps from the water. Yoga was a wonderful plus. I would recommend this property to anyone who needs to relax and recharge their batteries, or for couples who are looking for […] a romantic get away. The hotel is on the gorgeous playa norte beach. We went a week after holy week and the hotel was incredibly quiet and tranquil. We had no problem at all getting a cama on the beach whenever we wanted one and the staff were incredibly helpful happy move any beach furniture around at your convenience or dig a hole in the sand for a parasol. This was our second year at Isla Mujeres, both times we stayed at Na Balam. You can't beat the location: right on the beach yet within walking distance of the restaurants and stores. What was disappointing this year was the fact that yoga is no longer included in the room rate - you could attend the classes, but they now cost $12 per person. I'm positive […] the website said there was a free class for hotel guests but when we inquired about it, we were told the hotel is under new management and policies have changed. Beyond that, it would have been nice to have a refrigerator in the room - we were able to rent one, but it was very old and either didn't cool or froze things. There was also no bottled water available anywhere on the property. Last but not least, customer service was really bad. It was very clear that the people working there like their jobs and weren't in any way interested in making the guests feel welcome. Les mer

Had a great stay. Fun island to explore. You get a lot more local culture than in other spots we stayed in Mexico. Hotel was really nice. With some of the negative reviews are expectations were low. The hotel turned out to be great and the staff was very helpful. The room was very clean. We had a plunge pool room and loved it.

This is the best beach you'll find. Calm shallow water and soft sand. We had our wedding here and it was a beautiful place. The hotel grounds are very tropical and quiet. Our guest liked the hotel and rooms. We were concerned because it is not a modern highrise hotel but everyone like the laid back charm. We had a few mechinical issues in the room […] but after a visit to the desk someone came right up. There are some bugs as others reported. Some mostquitos depending on where you were and some very tiny ants in some of the rooms. The floor drains stink like many of the hotels in Mexico but we found we could eliminate it by covering the hole with a towel. The little inconviences didn't bother us much. If you like modern 6 star high rise hotels with 4 restaurants this is not the place for you. But if you want a taste of authentic mexico, quiet and laid back give this a try. We did have a slight issue at check out regarding our wedding deposit and are still trying to get it resolved. At check out they did not have our deposit information or an accounting of what was used but wanted further payment. We had to leave to catch our flight but the hotel has been in contact and I believe we'll get it resolved. The staff has been very friendly and helpful during the entire stay. Les mer
