Carefree inn was a trip to yesteryear circa 1960's! The atmosphere was quaint and the staff very friendly. I will be returning to Houston later this summer and plan on asking for the very same room. I highly recommend!
"Carefree Inn - Not so carefree"
We knew when we booked this Hotel that it wasn't going to be as nice as the Four Points Sheraton we usually stay in during Business Trips, but we wanted to save a little money. One review said it was fine for a single night stay, and it's location was fairly convenient, so we decided to book a reservation. The main building seemed promising and the […] staff was nice. Appearances, however did not continue to our room. The bathroom was run down, our bath towels were so worn there were holes in them, the bed was stiff and the pillows were so terrible I used an old towel instead. We tried to use the gym, which looks nothing like the photo on their website. The photo must have been taken with a very wide lens and at the time didn't have an old fridge, broken A/C unit, and broken exercise equipment. I would recommend this hotel invest in better exercise equipment, new towels, new pillows and update the bathrooms. Until then, we'll book somewhere else. Carefree Inn may be cheaper, but you get what you pay for. Les mer

"Get what you pay for"
This is an inexpensive hotel, but you do get what you pay for. The towels were hard and the bed was making some creaking sounds. They got a few things right, such as my wake up call and requesting a cab for me, but when the cab was late and I was asking the front desk person, she was in essence saying I was at fault for not asking the previous clerk […] who would have taken care of what the clerk I checked in with did. You should not blame the customer and you should not have to ask for something twice. It was the cab company's fault they were late. I would not stay here again because of the bed and the towels. The hotel has been remodeled, but most of it is superficial. quick plaster and paint over on ceiling cracks. The doors/window in the room are thin. With the door closed, blinds pulled it sounded as if a window was open - not much sound protection, but the hotel is off to the side of the road and doesn't get too much road noise. Staff was friendly. There […] are some quick food options immediately around the hotel. I never felt unsafe - but I would not leave cars or rooms unlocked. No do-not disturb signs in room, meaning you can't prevent the staff from coming in and cleaning. Pros: - The lobby and "kicthen" are nice and clean. - Free Breakfast - Restaurant located on edge of property with good food/delivery. - Attempts to remodel and bring the hotel up to more modern appeal Cons: - The parking lot spots are small, and vehicles end up very close to each other. - Bathroom door (at least in my room) had no lock or vent fan. - Filled the bathtub up with water, and was a yellow color. Overall the hotel was decent for the price we paid. I've definitely stayed in worse. But I've also stayed in hotels leaps and bounds nicer than this place. If I was traveling through on budget I probably would stay here again. Though if I was looking to stay in the area for a longer period of time, I would seek more comfortable locations. - Old 20" Tube TVs. - Firm mattresses, and flat pillows. Les mer

A good hotel, clean, good bed and good breakfast facilities. Like all hotels the location is on a busy highway 20 minutes downtown and la galeria. Couple of restaurants nearby so all just fine.

"Carefree Inn - SW Houston Area"
Close to I-610 loop in the SW area of Houston. Access to the property is only northbound from northbound on Main because of the divided road. The room rate was a bit high for the size and comfort of the room. You will get the best rate by making your reservations on hotels.com. The exterior looked nice but the rooms need to be updated. The room is small […] with two double beds. Our bathroom shower leaked so the tile floor was always wet and soggy underneath. No bath ventilation so expect a hot steam bath when you shower! Don't expect much for breakfast either (small donuts, dry cereal, and coffee). The staff is very nice and helpful. This hotel is OK if location is critical to you. Les mer
We deeply apologies for the experience you had at our hotel. We just wanted to thank you for your patience and understanding. Please know, this is not the experience neither our company nor we want to deliver to our great customers like you. We will give you our words that will do our best to reduce this from happening again…….. Coffee, donuts, 2 types of cereal, oatmeal, grits bread, pecan rolls, variety of fruits, and cold milk is always place in the right areas. Front staff directs our new guest where what is so we can make things easier for our guest in house. After your check out we inspection of the room we found water on the floor due to shower head was broken and we replaced it right. As far as ventilation this is 65 years old property, during those day's there weren't any in bathroom. Since it is a concern we will start installing in each our room.

The motel is a little rundown even though I was told it had recently been remodeled. I don't think they have housekeeping services because no one made my bed while I was there. However, the staff is friendly & helpful, they have a free shuttle to MDA, free parking, & they have a full kitchen for guests who want to cook for themselves. The motel breakfast […] is minimal, so you should bring lots of food if you don't want to eat out a lot. I shopped at a local grocery store which was close to the motel and ate in my room. We stayed for three nights in a double bed room. The Inn's kitchen is very clean and has several tables. We ate breakfast there every morning; coffee wasn't bad either. The Inn also has a restaurant located in the back and orders can be called in and delivered to your room; the food was delicious. Our room was kept very clean and the staff was friendlier […] than I expected. The Carefree Inn was conveniently located on Main St which leads you directly to the Medical District and the Houston Zoo and Museum of Natural Science. Highly recommend for the price i paid i had a wonderful experience, breakfast cooked and served, convenient, close to gas station, Starbucks, McDonalds and golden coral, Great customer service the only thing i had issues with was that my room was noisy because it was next to laundry room. Overall very affordable and worth every penny.

The hotel was close to where I needed it to be (The Medical Center), so that was good! The location was great. There were a couple of things that I was disappointed on was there was: 1. That is what we try our level best not to have a unhappy or disappointed guest from our hotel. Hot water problem, we have solve by putting brand new hot water heater, due to high volume of theft for alarm clock, we started provided alarm clock setting directly from your phone in the room. prompt # 5 you can set it up or call service desk and they help you set up. Our dark windows and you can only see from inside to outside, not outside to inside. We are changing our curtains soon, every year we change and we will make sure to pay close attention to this issue. We provide standard towels in every room for each person 2 face/ 2 hand/2 bath/ and one floor mat. Also due to high volume to towels missing from rooms. If requested by our guest we do provide the extra towel to your rooms. Hope you return to our hotel to experience changes and prompt service. Thank you.

"You get what you pay for."
I went to Houston for the weekend to visit family. Didn't stay in the room much except to sleep. The location is very convenient, it is less than a block from I-610 and down the street from Reliant Stadium. Motel was in a good area. I never felt worried about anyone trying to steal anything. The room was very basic: bed, tv, small fridge, microwave, […] sink, toilet, and shower. There were constantly mosquitoes in the room. I had to purchase bug spray and spray the room and keep a pair of jeans against the bottom of the door since there was spacing between the door and frame. The continental breakfast was horrible. I ended up leaving with only a cup of milk that I poured from a gallon jug in the fridge. There was literally only a gallon of milk, waffle mix, a waffle maker, some cheerios, and a couple packs of instant oatmeal. I think next time I'll pay the extra money and stay at a better place. My husband was receiving three weeks of radiation therapy for lung cancer at MDAnderson. We live too far away to drive every day; he is 84 and I am 70 years old. We enjoyed the shuttle to and from the hospital and proton center, especially when we had to go during heavy traffic hours. The staff at Carefree Inn was VERY supportive and kind. Staff were extremely friendly. Really enjoyed interaction. Rooms were run down and sub-par in terms of maintenance. Air conditioner was very loud. Presentation of breakfast could have been better. If all you need is a bed and you aren't looking for additional amenities, this hotel will do.

The people at Carefree Inn are the most caring, empathetic and supportive folks we have met during this lengthy illness. We are 84 and 70 years old, patient and wife in that order and we have very early and very late appointments at M.D.Anderson Cancer center. We are not comfortable driving in the city traffic at those times, so we have used the shuttle […] offered by the Motel to go back and forth to the radiation center each day. EVERYONE - the shuffle drivers, housekeepers, front desk, owner, maintenance men and fajaita cafe behind the place have been so courteous and sweet that we don't care if the accomodations are not new and shiny. "Great hotel at a Great price"
The hotel was very clean and staff was extremely nice. The only complaint I have is that the tv had only about 7 channels on it. I am not sure if in the process of remodeling they didn't hook something up right but we got over it. Our overall experience was great.

This hotel was recently renovated and very clean. I stayed for four nights and overall, I was satisfied. There is a full kitchen provided for guests, so you may cook your own meals and save on eating out. This is a convenient location to the medical locations, as there is a shuttle provided. "Great stay"
This place is great, for under fifty bucks with tax we stayed in a clean and comfortable room. There was even a mini fridge and a microwave, both of which were very well kept. The air conditioner was a little loud when we were sleeping, but blew wonderful cold air the entire night (very important for Texas summer nights). Houston is a huge place, very very spread out. The Carefree Inn was a short drive to the downtown area and other points of interests. "Care Free Inn in Houston - two thumbs way up!"
Care Free is a basic hotel--no frills, not bells and whistles. BUT - upon arrival, I received a warm welcome, and the management was friendly and helpful throughout my visit. My room was clean. Even though, as I stated, it was basic, it possessed a comfortable charm. The bed slept well. The bathroom was large and clean with abundant hot water. The TV […] reception was a little fuzzy, but I was not there to watch TV, so that was not an issue with me. The air conditioner worked well, which is important for a stay in South Texas. I felt safe and secure. In the lobby, there is a kitchen with a well-stocked refrigerator and plenty of dishes, pots, pans, and utensils, and you can cook your own breakfast (eggs, waffles, etc,) yourself--I enjoyed that. The hotel is well-located, at the intersection of Main and I-610, so it was easy access to the Texas Medical Center and the museum district (my two destinations). A free shuttle to the Medical Center is available; I did not take advantage of it, so I don't know the ins and outs of its use--I just noticed that they have one. Again, Care Free is not the Ritz, but the atmosphere is warm and friendly, it is clean and comfortable, and I'm glad I stayed there.
