We recently stayed one night at the Sanctuary, and were amazed of the view from our upgraded suite. Unfortuneatly, the weather was bad and it was too cold to sit on the porch facing the ocean. The fireplace was a good replacement! The wi-fi hardly worked. The room itself was somewhat outdated, and could probably need an upgrade. But it was cozy, and the golf carts that the guest have access too was quite fun! The hotel is probably great for a few days at the beach when it's sunny, but if the ocean view isn't important, you can probably find cheaper places to spend a night.

"Solid choice for a budget friendly hotel"
This place is quaint and relatively nice, without too many frills. We enjoyed the continental breakfast delivered to our door each morning as it made it easier to get out and about more quickly (we were mostly hiking while in the area). The location is good, but not great because it isn't great for walking into downtown Carmel. It's not far, but there […] are no sidewalks on most of the blocks in between the hotel and downtown, which makes for an uncomfortable walk, especially at night (there are very few street lights). We really enjoyed our stay there. The rates were very reasonable and the location was great. Nice quiet neighborhood and a short walk to the beach & downtown Carmel. Breakfast delivered to the door was a treat. No frills but very nice.

Charming Cabin like atmosphere with breakfast delivered to your door - only drawback was that you had to drive into town where parking can be tough!
Bed was old an sagged in the middle. Very noisey street sounds. Bathroom was very small, I had to sit sideways on the toilet.

"Breakfast"
The cottage was wonderful, but the best was a breakfast delivered to our room. It consisted of 2 muffins, 2 crouisants, 2 yogurts, 2 pieces of fruit, and 2 cans of fruit juice. We brewed freah coffee in our room and enjoyed a breakfast at our own time and pace. It was great!

We stayed two nights. Very clean, comfortable room. Appreciated the basket continental breakfast brought to our room, very nice touch. Walked to down town, nice walk. Highly recommend.
"Needs renovation and heat"
The gas fireplace is the only heating for the entire place. We went in August and still that wasn't enough heat. Going to the bathroom in the middle of the night was bad--heater on the other side of the "cottage." While these are called cottages, I'd say they're rustic enough to be called cabins. Each is divided into two, so there's someone on the other […] side; still, it was quieter than most hotels. The bathroom was in desperate need of renovation, and the comforter, shams and carpeting were spotted. These things made me unable to decide if the place was dirty or just unable to look clean. I did find a few hairs in the bathroom, though, which made me think the former. The staff was great--very friendly and helpful, and the breakfast was quite substantial and delicious. Les mer
"Carmel Resort Inn is Funky But Cool...."
This is a great place for the laid-back traveler. The location is beautiful, the staff is super-friendly, and it's very easy to find (even in the dark with Carmel's unmarked streets)! The hotel is located close to downtown Carmel. At least one of the rooms has a fire pit and barbeque; really cool if you have kids. Yes, it's a little "run-down." The […] hot tub was out of order, and the room was not posh, but it was clean and quiet. The bed was really soft. If you need a firm mattress, this hotel is not for you. Otherwise, if you want an unpretentious, inexpensive, friendly place to stay, this is it. Oh, and like most of Carmel, they are dog-friendly if you tell them in advance. Big plus! Les mer
"Cozy Cottage, Good price for Carmel"
We stayed just one night, but found it to suit our needs just fine. Staff was friendly. Our cottage was equipped with everything we needed (fridge, microwave, coffee maker, tv). The bed was pretty hard, but we weren't expecting 5 star. We wanted our breakfast early, when we called they brought it over right away. Nice continental (two large half muffins, […] croissant, apple, banana, two juices, and two yogurts). Would stay there again if looking for a decent deal in a gorgeous location. "Rustic and Run down!"
Our vacation started off with a gas leak- then they "upgraded" to a larger room. Only to find this on in worse condition- smelled like dogs/cats, etc. Very dirty and in poor condtion. After our 3rd move - we were exhausted and just settled. The owner is a wonderful man - but his property is in desperate need of repair. WE WILL NEVER STAY HERE AGAIN- […] BE WARNED! Les mer

We travelled down from San Francisco and stopped here. it's a shady wee oasis about a mile from the beach. If you're looking for sophistication then don't come here but if you want a rest is a quite motel in a beautiful area of the country then this really is the place

Very comfortable. Very Homey / cozy. 2nd time visiting this motel and happy both times.
This hotel is nothing fancy, but location is excellent. Walking distance from downtown, very quite neiborhood. Rooms are nice and clean. Good price/quality balance!
"Carmel Resort Inn a winner"
I stayed for only one night but I felt like it was longer. The staff was very friendly and accomodating - and I fell in love with my little cabin. We were situated only a few yards away from the Hot Tub which I didn't realize at first. I will definitely go back and bring friends or other family! I felt like it was luxury camping - cozy and private - […] but accessible to downtown and the great beach on Ocean Avenue. The best part was the comfortable bed - I slept very soundly! "Your second house in Carmel"
The cottages are conviently located with easy access to the freeway and walking distance to downtown or beach. Check-in was very courteous (was upgraded to a larger cottage for my family) and quick. Our cottage had two bed room, kitchen, full bath and living room. Plenty of room and comfort for our family of four. Each cottage has a little terrace with […] chairs and 1-2 parking spots. There is plenty of room between the cottages 'sprinkled' across the place, providing privacy, etc. On the premises are various seating areas and a covered hot-tub. From our cottage it was a 15-20 min walk /stroll to downtime and less than 30 min to the beach. We are already planning another weekend in Carmel, so I can highly recommend Carmel Resort Inn. Les mer
"Great, quiet stay."
This is a cute little hotel with cottages. You even get your own driveway to park in. The breakfast basket delivered in the morning was just enough for my husband an I. It was very quiet. The hotel is nestled in the Carmel hills. If you are ok with uphill hiking a bit, stay here instead of downtown Carmel. No extra fees for parking!! the clerk was very nice..i wasnt that much convince with the hotel location, there isnt no street lights around the area. so id say its better to stay downtown carmel and pay a lil more than to go home with an very unsafe road... breakfast in bed was ok was lil healty but they should have just serve the bread and boiled egg warm atleast.

This is not an extravagant hotel by any stretch of the imagination, but it was clean, roomy, comfortable and GREAT for our family of 4. Our kids LOVED the breakfast basket that is delivered and kept asking at every other hotel if we were going to get that again!

Very good bang for moderate price. Included an entertaining free Bar-B-Q Sat night with wine, good comradery, and helpful info of where to eat. Rustic, not fancy. Help was friendly & responsive. The Carmel Resort Inn was absolutely lovey and so were the owners! They gave us a card to go wine tasting for free. The fire place in the room was very nice. Good water pressure in the shower. There was nothing I would eat in the breakfast basket but my boyfriend enjoyed it. The only disappointing thing was that there was no light in the room where […] the hot tub was which made it hard to use at night, and the hot tub was not actually hot. Easy to find but not with GPS. Room was a little rough around the edges and lack of hot water from shower made it difficult to enjoy a good shower or bubble bath. "Good place"
Nice place to stay. Early check in was a plus, Good place for our dog. The owners provided wine and BBq for a Saturday night. Overall, good people and it helped with a small Breakfast basket in the morning. Will come back.
"Comfory Inn in Carmel, Calif."
After checking in we were assigned to our cabin which I may add was very cold. A small electric heater was available but which didn't heat the cabin at all. I found another heater in a closet and plugged it in and this helped. My wife then attempted to make coffee and it caused us to lose power to the entire cabin. There was no reset breaker. We requested […] another cabin and moved. We have stayed here several times over the years and the facility has declined over time. There is only one towel per person ( 2 towels ) so if you use the hot-tub, you have to use a wet towel if you shower. I must say we did enjoy our stay but the place has definitely declined over time. There used to be log fires in every cabin which added to the atmosphere, however, these have been replaced by electric heaters. I suppose this must have been an economic move. "Perfectly pleasant off-season overnight stay"
Very reasonable rate for private cottage atmosphere and cozy fireplace heating. Pleasant staff, nice facilities, convenient enough for Highway 1 travel and beach access. Upon check in, we were told that the both the lights and fireplace were turned on awaiting our arrival -- and it turned out to be a nice way to step into our room. For multiple adults […] and a spa on the grounds, the room could have had more than (2) bath towels provided, but we made do with what we had, since I was told that extra linens were not on the premises. Cottages by the road are subject to road noise, but with the windows shut this time of year in cooler weather, it did not present an issue (although I can definitely imagine the case being different in warmer weather for some). There was a big earwig crawling on one wall which may turn off some, but I was ok with it. Wonderful that the place is pet-friendly, but those with even mild allergies may want to consider the effect of wall-to-wall carpeting in the room. I am accustomed to hardwood flooring, so my lungs did notice the difference breathing in a carpeted room. Fortunately, it didn't turn out to be problematic despite keeping all the windows closed; and I'm thankful for that. I love a firm bed and a responsive thermostat for controlling the temperature and, happily, this room was plenty comfortable on both counts. Although listed as a Queen, the bed is really a Full. Free public wi-fi was convenient to use and much appreciated to have internet access in the room. The hand-delivered breakfast is a nice touch for those on a leisurely schedule. If you need to get out the door early, however, you may have to miss it -- arriving at some time between 8:30-9:00am. All in all, this is definitely a place I'd consider booking again, and would be comfortable even for a longer stay. Nice Place! It's walking distance to downtown Carmel so it's perfect for a day of wine tasting. It's a small, charming, albeit funky place. I love that the rooms are cottages. The spa is nice and the staff are friendly and helpful. The bed was really comfortable and I got the best night's sleep I've had probably in months. I will definitely stay here […] again. Les mer
"Great place in the woods"
We stayed in a cabin like room with a fireplace, cozy and warm. The area had beautiful trees, the hotel offers a spa, an outdoor seating area for BBQ's and breakfast baskets brought to the room in the mornings. The managers are new, but quite helpful and kind. They gave us a free bottle of wine for our anniversary! They are trying to improve the place […] and are going to update the rooms this winter. It's quite a walk into town, but we love the walk, the homes and landscaping in the area is quite charming. We have been coming to this resort for the last 15 years and have always loved our stay there, even when it was run down, (which it is not anymore). The prices is right, I'd recommend this hotel to anyone, and they allow dogs. Les mer

"Way too far from downtown Carmel!"
This hotel is not within walking distance to any shops or dining as we originally thought. The room was outdated and in need of major repairs (especially the bathrooms). Not a good choice if you want to enjoy your stay in charming Carmel.
"Great Price, Funky Charm"
My boyfriend and I stayed here for one night for a weekend getaway. For the price and location I would definitley recommend this place. It's a funky set up and we both dug it and thought it had a lot of charm. For a 1-2 night stopover it's great.

Each of the rooms are little cottages, so it is great since you do not have any neighbors to worry about. The beds are a bit hard but that it what I prefer so I was in heaven. The pillows leave something to be desired however. The hotel was easy to get to right off Highway 1. The Carmel Resort Inn was ok. We stayed there for 2 nights. The room was a bit outdated and it was not located "downtown" but that did not matter to us. The staff was friendly. Room a bit dark and hotel not close enough to the center of town to walk to, but Carmel is beautiful pretty much anywhere so you don't really feel like you're somewhere else. Al ser Carmel muy caro para quedarte en el centro,no es este alojamiento una mala opción. Lo único es que tienes que tener claro que necesitas coche para ir al centro y que las habitaciones están un poco viejas. El desayuno te lo llevan a la habitación por la mañana y es un poco limitado. De todas formas, para quedarte una noche no está mal.
