Service was great! Rooms were nice and clean! The highlights were definatly the location, seeing the cruize ships dock daily, the snorkeling right in front was great. And the food was one of the big highlights for myself, good flavor, creative presintation, and good selection! Would definatly revisit this resort

Our romantic 3 day trip was fine in terms of hotel, room, service! On our first night we needed ibuprofen and tums and the closest place was the store at the hotel. We had to pay about $40 U.S. for small bottles of each! What is one to do when you have a migraine and upset stomach! Pity this hotel is so far away from town as it really is a nice place. […] I know you have read about the cruise ships blocking the view, but if you don't mind watching how ships of this size dock and undock they won't bother you. The only complaint about the ships I had was the early morning blow of their horn and their loudspeaker announcements to their guests. Even these didn't last long. Great stay overall!! Les mer

The check-in procedure was quick and efficent. The room was ready and the bellman did an excellent job with our bags and making sure everything in the room was good to go. There was an initial effort to sell us a membership but no follow up pressure.(That's a good thing!) The cruise ships constantly in and out got a little annoying after a while but […] not enough to make us complain. The location was perfect for getting anywhere on the island. The snorkeling was good on site for fish spotting but not very colorful for coral. The food was good and the employees were friendly and helpful.Don't miss the wood fired pizza!!!!! The cook let's you stand by and cook it to your liking. If you rent a car be sure to educate yourself about the meter/parking procedure down town. Les mer

Great location and staff. Did not eat the food their, needs some improvement but the new manager seems to be on a mission to improve everything. Best snorking is right off the dining room. Would return next trip

The "private beach" was very disappointing as it was very small and man-made. The "kitchenette" was in poor condition, and very small. We had to look at and listen to cruise ships docking at 7 am and leaving at 8 to 9 pm every night. The restaurant was mediocre. The hotel is very far from downtown. I'm general I was very happy with my stay at el cid. The location was close enough to town to take either my bike a scooter or a rental car/taxi into town, the cruise terminal right inferior of the hotel meant that during the day you would have cruise passengers visiting three hotel amenities. At this time of year there were not enough to provide a […] nuisance. My only qualms with the hotel was related to the service at the restaurant which was quite slow and during the daytime they performed repair work at lunchtime right by my table. The maid and hotel staffs attention to detail was impressive, such that every day for my 6 day stay I had a new towel artwork in my room when they cleaned. After the race they were even kind enough to put a poster on my door signed by the staff which I thought was amazing! Check in was fast and efficient, we were on the third floor in the low rise building, we had a beautiful view of the ocean and could sit on our balcony and watch the ships coming and going; the room was very clean and comfortable it was a studio and for 2 people there was plenty of room. The food at the restaurant was very good, the waiters and bartenders […] were very friendly and professional, The waiters on the beach were always there to get you a drink or snacks. We felt very safe at the hotel and in this area, was very quiet. The staff at this hotel go out of their way to make you feel welcomed, THANKS to all ! We stayed at the El-Cid Cozumel from November 14-to-17,2012. Check in was fast and efficient, our room was in the low rise building there are 3 floors , we were on the 3rd floor in a studio, room was very clean and had beautiful views of the ocean , we could sit on our balcony and watch the ships coming and going, in the evenings when they were all […] lit up. The restaurant food was very good and well presented, all the waiters and bartenders were very friendly . The waiters on the beach were very good , special thanks to VICKY for the great service she provided. The staff at the reception desk were very helpful and always ready to please. We felt very safe at the hotel and in this area, we walked to the shopping area about 2 blocks from hotel a few times. We enjoyed our stay at this hotel and we will be back. Les mer

The rooms are above average, the sliding door would not lock and the bathroom window would not lock, my wife was concerned. The doors also did not seem very secure. The food at the restaurants is good not great. The service is also good not great. The resort is well kept though a bit dated. The massage was wonderful. Overall hotel experience was pleasant. Maid service (Franseca) was amazing. Her team of ladies did an outstanding job each day -- and the turn-down service was a nice touch. Hotel had plenty of hot water and perfect water pressure. Two areas to mention -- our room was on the first floor of the tower, and we could hear the guests above us way to loudly. […] The hotel registration help was not the most pleasant...pushy, asking for email addresses for each family member. (to send promotional information) I had two children in the room - and they wanted their email address as well. I was asked several times. The hotel restaurant was good....service was very good and Viki provided great beach side service. Snorkeling on site was AMAZING!!!! Saw some of the most gorgeous fish in the world --- no need to pay for snorkeling trip!!! The small "beach" area was somewhat disappointing -- very rocky. We were disappointed by a a few things. The pool was cloudy for most of our stay. I believe that it was due to volume not lack of maintenance. A small pool can not accomodate 100 people all day long. Same with the hot tub. Work was being done on the dock and the hammering and other tool noises made it uncomfortable to lounge on the beach area. We did […] not get the room promised. No coffee maker nor microwave though we did recieve a welcome gift of coffee & cookies. We were told we were lucky to get a refrigerator. The restaurant was nice but limited in menu items. The staff was pleasant but not all were trying to win their guests over. All in all it was a nice place but I will not be going back to El Cid Cieba Beach Hotel again, nor will we be too quick to visit Cozumel. BTW, we don't dive so maybe my expectations are unfair. Great hotel with a great pool/beach area. Cruise ship visitors are entertaining to watch and not too intrusive. The music was not very appealing.

Blankets and towels were a little rough but that's the only thing bad I could say about the hotel. Staff is friendly, bar by the hot tub, plenty of seating by the beach and a couple of hammocks, they have their own dive shop and a cab to the ferry is only 80 pesos. This is my 4th time to this resort and I am still in love with it! They hotel staff are super friendly and helpful and the rooms are very nice and comfortable. My hotel experience was good overall. The staff was very nice, although I believe that the language barrier contributed to a few of the problems that I had. When making a local call, I went through the operator once, but was told the next time that I had to come down to the lobby. Noone seemed to understand my concern about the dimly lit bathroom. El Cid is conveniently located by the water. In fact you can snorkel right there. The hotel rooms are comfortable; bed could be better... The staff is always friendly and helpful. That was our second stay there and we would stay there again as oaver it is a great value.

When we got to the Hotel at 3:30, it took until 4:50 to get in our room(we prepaid the room before leaving for the trip), the wait staff at the pool leaves something to be desired, every time we needed something we had to go to the bar, and then they said they would bring it to us. Room was small and outdated, the ceiling of the bathroom was wood bamboo […] covering the concrete above it, there were little pieces of concrete falling through the bamboo and onto the sink. The Hotel is right in front of the pier where the cruise ships come in, of there are no ships in port that area is pretty much shut down. Pool was nice. I wouldn't stay there again. Les mer

My son and I stayed at El Cid last week during a dive trip. My son (on his first trip abroad) was not impressed, but I was. It is an older hotel and is fairly basic, but they take good care of it, and the service is excellent. The location is good for diving. It is close to the marina, and when the cruise ships leave in the evening, it gets very quiet […] very early. The wonderful hotel manager found us at the airport check-in after we had inadvertently left a wallet (with alot of cash) in our room after checking out. So I can't say enough about the great service!!! He prevented what would have been a disastrous end to our trip, much appreciated.

If you are planning to do diving while in Cozumel this is the hotel for you. A good diving operator is made up of three crucial parts: 1. A fast boat 2. small group 3. experienced and safety conscious dive masters who take the customer where he/she wants to go Babeica Diving in El Cid has all of these and on top of this, the DM's are simply great […] and cool people. If you take pot luck and end up with any one of the three amigos, Luis, Socrates or Julian, you simply won't be dissapointed. I give 10/10 to Babeica and the crew. The hotel was fine, but we did not get the room we booked. We were told regardless of what Expedia sold us they never guarantee a room type. Since we were on vacation we chose not to argue and just enjoy ourselves.

This was a truly beautiful resort. I loved every minute of my stay. The only complaint I have is the beds were too hard. The matress was like sleeping on a concrete slab.

This is a nice resort style hotel with a small private beach, restaurant, gym, cabanas, beach lounge chairs, jacuzzi with bar, dock for snorkeling, hammocks!, and clean rooms. You are greeted with a free drink and are given many freebies including organic honey shampoo and snacks. Their gym is small but not many people used it while i was there so i […] had the whole place to myself. The jacuzzi is nice, but get there early because people like to stay there and enjoy the sea breeze. I really didn't like the room service though. I have to say, most of the staff is very friendly and very accomodating. If you stay in the tower you will have a better stay overall. These are bigger, newer rooms with a nice view of the ocean. In contrast, the room we stayed at was very dimly lit, had very loud pipes that would wake us up in the middle of the night and the room was small and outdated- […] and there is no elevator. Bellman can help you, but it's rather difficult managing the stairs with a stroller and baby in tow. The food at the hotel wasn't all that great and it's rather pricey. I would definitely NOT recommend getting all inclusive for this reason. I would recommend eating towards the centro where you can find some wonderful restaurants with reasonable prices. One main reason why my hotel stay was not as enjoyable is because I was supposed to receive "hotel credit" in a certain amount to use at the resort. I was specifically told that I could use this credit for food and drinks and pretty much anything there at the resort. Instead, I received a coupon book that was useless to me. You have to spend a minimum (usually around $150-200) to use a coupon, and many of these coupons weren't even for the La Ceiba. It was very disappointing. Another thing- I wouldn't go on tours using the hotel service. Do your own homework online and save yourself a good $20 per person or more for the same exact tour. They try to make it reasonable if you waste 90 minutes of your day listening to people try and sell you a time share. I'm glad I didn't do it! My time on vacation is precious! I liked that the rooms had kitchenettes with mini fridges- this was a must especially traveling with little ones. Les mer

Stayed (Nov. 30 to Dec the 8, 2011) in room 2319 which was on the 3rd floor on the lower hotel bldg. There was a tree that seem to be the home of hundreds of cherping birds that will wake you up a dawn without fail. I do not recommend anyone staying on that side of the hotel. The Jaccuzi did not work for a couple of days. The maintenence staff told […] us that water could not be added to the steam room even thou the instructions on the wall stated that you can. Go figure! As far as the overall stay was concerned, I did like the hotel and staff. I do recommend this hotel. If you like being downtown shopping, this hotel is not within walking distance. Les mer

We stayed for a week at the El Cid in Cozumel. The hotel, in my opinon is a secret treasure. Close to town, a $7 cab ride in, but seems much closer to be able to enjoy Cozumel. The Hotel has a small beach access that adjoins the cruise ship pier which makes for interesting people watching as the huge ship spills the thousands of people out. I had heard […] the El Cid was a spot where they could come and spend the day, and worried they would crowd out the El Cid people. It never happened, there was always a spot to sit at the pool & ocean. We went for scuba diving, and dove with Babeica Diving, the on site dive operation. They were great, they offer small extremely fast boats with no more than 8-10 divers. The schedule was so nice as they left at 9:00 am (ish) so the mornings were never rushed. And since the boats were so fast we regularly beat the earlier boats to the best sites. For 3 days we were DM'd by Jonathon M, and he was GREAT!!!! The boats were covered, and had water and snacks for our timeouts between dives. They did put into shore for us to be able to get off the boat for a short time, which was wonderful. All in all the trip was wonderful, and I will return........ Les mer

While we were there the staff was very kind, but the food was unimpressive, they were remodeling the pool while we were staying there without any other options of places to go swim. This hotel was definitely an older property, but was well maintained and functional. The price was really good for the area. Our only concern was that we ordered and paid for a room with a King bed, but got something a bit smaller than a Queen-size. We didn't complain, as we were tired and the full/queen was adequate for our needs. We were also confused […] by the description of the plans on the website--it said that we were on the european plan--and in one place that included a free breakfast. Apparently, not all rooms on the european plan include the free breakfast--so watch out! Food was INSANELY expensive in their restaurant, (for example, 4 oz of coke and 4 oz of ice costs about three dollars, with no free refills--so enough beverage for a meal adds about nine bucks to the tab). They provide a coffeemaker, but no coffee--so you need to bring that with you, too. Les mer

This hotel is a nice find. Not too far from town, yet none of the town noise. Only two complaints. First, my wife came to learn to scuba dive. They (The onsite dive shop) told her she could start the next day at 1:30. At 2:30 she was still waiting, and told the instructor was out with the cruise ship arrivals teaching them to dive. We learned who had […] priority. We went next door, a great place. All the cruise ships dock next door. No problem, as we liked to see the big ships while we ate. However, it does block a small portion of the view of the beach. Second, the food is not really worth what they charge. You will average $30.00 - $40.00 dollars per meal for two. Much better deals are to be had in town. Also, the restaurant closes at 10:00 PM. By the time we returned from town or a night dive in the evening, they were closed. No other places are close by where you can eat late so be prepared. A taxi ride will cost between $7.00 - $12.00 to town each way depending on how well you negotiate. Also the printer was down in their business center. No easy way to print advance boarding tickets for your flight home. The free WIFI was spotty at best. Only seemed to work when seated in the lobby, and sometimes at the bar. On the positive side, all the staff were friendly and helpful. The air conditioning in our room worked great, and you will need it. Few selections on the TV, but you shouldn't come here to watch it anyway. We felt safe at all times, never a security concern. Our rental car in the parking lot was never bothered. We would stay here again. Les mer
