the staff was nice considering the condition of the room, unfortunately I will not be staying there again for these reasons. the sink pipe was leaking everytime you turned it, everytime you sat, or layed down on the bed it felt like you were falling off of it, and it was a really small room, and the key card would not work so you had to get one of the […] staff memebers to come and open the door for you everytime although keep in mind that is not there fault that it broke down. the cleanliness of the room was sastisfactory, but there was no bath towels in the room and had only 2 hand towels and it did smell a bit of cleaning supplies when we arrived. I do like the fact that its only a block from downtown so it was just walking distance to a lot of restaurants and movie theater and shopping and didn't have to worry about parking Les mer

Very uncomfortable surroundings. Beds were clean but bathrooms were disgusting. Outside door didn't close properly and it was an unsafe neighborhood . Noisey and all around terrible stay

Terrible Hotel. Bed and carpet were extremely dirty. Television and phone were not working. Upon checking in I noticed the housekeeping staff smoking in the rooms they were cleaning. Walls were thin and could hear people in the room beside me playing loud music. The room had a mouldy odour that gave me a headache throughout the night. I said to myself […] that this is only for one night but the last straw game when a shady looking character knocked at my door around midnight. Since the door did not have any locks on it I didnt feel very safe. With a little effort he could have easily knocked the door down. After that incident I quickly packed my stuff and checked into a different hotel. This is by far the worst hotel experience I have ever encountered. I believed the Howard Johnson Hotel was a reputable name but this hotel really puts Howard Johnson Hotels to shame. Les mer

Not in a very safe neighborhood and the room was too small for the price charged.

I found it comfortable for the price and the convience of the bus at the.hotel made it convienent

The key for the room did not work properly, the room was smelly, some patrons were hookers of the night, and they were coming & going at all hours. The desk clerk in the morning was not people friendly, not sure how he got that job, further to the desk clerk who received me the previous evening was impolite to me. I booked a two-night stay at the howard johnson in Barrie. The rates were reasonable and since Howard Johnson is a branded chain I assumed it would be decent enough. I was NOT expecting anything fancy, I only expected the room to be clean and have a working tv with cable as advertised. My room smelled like stingy dirt and mold mixed together ( was a […] NON SMOKING ROOM also). The bathroom and shower fixtures were completely dirty and rotten looking - when I had to wash my hands I used a face cloth to turn the taps on. TV calbe not working also. When I had went to the front desk to advise them of the state of the room , I was told that the smell in the room was"NEW CARPETING" - and that they would open spray the room for me. Believe me, NOTHING in this room was new, carpet dirty and stained. Needless to say I paid for a different room in a different location in barrie which was completely clean and reasonable. Complete waste of money - choose a different hotel and spend an extra $20 per night. This franchise location should not be operational under a branded name. Les mer

Way over priced needed work done. Bad location bad neighbourhood. Went for a walk for a drink, was approached for money!!!! Did not feel comfortable. Could not get more than two extra pillows, which I need for medical reasons. Will not get go again would rather sleep in my vehicle.

stained carpets, bed sheets, and towels. moldy bathroom and a/c. cigarette holes burned into the bedding. the room stank of all these things. the hot water was turned off. housekeeping visited 3 times before the official checkout time. Room was very very tight and brown water came out of the pipes for the first few seconds after turned on. Television was too low to watch while laying on the bed and AC knob was broken off.

The room was old but clean, however there were not suffiecient towels or toiletries. The room was quite poor with repsect to quietness. The vehicles passing along the road were very audible. Noise and converstions of the people in the rooms next to me were also very audible both of these made it very difficult to sleep. Upon requesting a change in room […] and having the front desk personel to address the noise level of the room next door, there was very poor assistance in these matters. Les mer

the room needed major repairs to it .the A/C unit was in the window with the curtains over the air

i thot the place wood be nice but not i asked for a call at 530am sum guy came to the room that i was at and hit the door 5 time very hard and said 530 wake up . so i am going to tell all my frends the the place that i stade in do not go there the room was very small . the bath tub is a joke . only a shower . my next trip in that town . no

I am very unimpressed with this hotel as well as your reservation staff. I phoned asking for a hotel that had good reviews that was close to Georgian College and had a breakfast service. When the Howard Johnson Express Inn was reccommended I asked if it had good reviews and was told by the lady reserving it that there's never been complaints about this […] hotel. When I first got there the men at the desk for check in were very inappropriate. They told me if I had have booked with them in person that they would have given me a discount due to the way I looked. Then when they asked how many people were staying in my room and I answered just me they started to joke around about me being in that room all alone and that they can't believe I wouldn't have someone in there with me. Then they started joking with each other in a different language and made me very uncomfortable. When I went into the room in smelled terrible, like stale cigarette smoke. The lamp wouldn't turn on right away so I had to fiddle with the switch to make it work. Then when I went into the bathroom there was a hole in the door as well as multiple black streaks on the other side of the door. There were large stains on the carpet as well as paint spots. There were no hand towels in the bathroom and the shower was grungy. I could also hear the peoples conversations in the rooms above and beside me very clearly and in the later night they seemed drunk and obnoxciuos and were arguing. In the morning there was a very small selection for breakfast and the coffee was cold. That night when I got back to the hotel room my door key card would not work. I had to go in to the check in office again and was very uncomfortable to have to talk with the man who was inappropriate with me the night before. When talking with the locals from Barrie they informed me that this hotel had a very bad reputationand that they would never ever reccommed it or stay there themselves. I do not recomend this hotel to anyone.. I dont know about the barrie locations but I have given this hotel 2 chances and both times it was horrible

This is an old motel complex now franchised. The rooms were adequate/comfortable a bit noisy early evening. Close to downtown (walkable) Only problem we had was no towels in bathroom (not discovered till 6 a.m.)!!!! Apology accepted Quite good value for the price

It was cheap. I would classify this more as a motel, than a hotel. The staff don't smile, and they don't talk a lot. The room itself was not classy, it's very barebones, and the walls and the floors were very thin. You could hear everything going on in other rooms and outside.

Good value for the money. Great location,right in town center. Old and small, but clean and friendly! Just what we needed for a one night stop on our way to Manitoulin Island.

In spite of holding my room with a credit card, the front office demanded a $100 security deposit. Funny thing is they never even looked at the room when I checked out before they gave me my money back.

The room was small and dirty, it didn't look like they had bothered to vacuum after the last guest. It was very hot and the walls or should I say ceiling was paper thin
