We really enjoyed staying at the Hilton Waikoloa Village with our 20-month-old daughter. The enclosed, ocean-fed lagoon is a great place for a toddler to splash around (with supervision, of course) and snorkeling is fantastic with lots of different fish to see. Stayed in newly renovated lagoon tower which is definitely better side of the resort. Great pools, very nice rooms. Restaurants on site are only ok but expensive. Short drive to other very nice restaurants, you need a car here. Overall a good stay.

The Hilton Waikoloa village is ideal for a family, especially one with small children. The lagoon provides a wonderful environment for snorkeling in ocean water that is still safe and "managed" as part of the resort. The swimming pool on the Lagoon tower side is phenomenal, with waterfalls, a slide, and a massive pool including a sandy wading pool for […] smaller children. The overall attention to detail can feel a little contrived at times, but for a family with kids the peace of mind and endless fun in a safe environment makes it well worth it. Very pretty hotel but so big and manicured it kind of feels like you're at disneyworld more than in hawaii. You can take a tram around the grounds or do a long walk. Such a long walk to get out of the hotel so its easier to eat at one of the hotels restaurants, but the food was very disappointing. Very huge hotel and nice. Sort of like a Disnelyland for resorts. Restaurants and drinks etc... are extremely expensive but amenities are pretty much unbeatable for a resort. It has to be the nicest hotel on the Big Island and this is coming from a sane person!

Enjoyed the resort very much. From our room we watched whales cavorting in the ocean. Plenty of fun activities to do. Great restaurants, especially the Kirin - serving Chinese Cuisine. This is a beautiful destination resort - however, there were three issues for us: the resort is so large that it takes a long time to get back an forth to your room, it is very windy on this part of the island - made it not as conducive to sitting out or swimming - and it is almost an hour's drive away from the downtown Kona area.

Wonderful hotel. Certainly large and a pricey place to stay but totally worth it! The hotel has beautiful views of the ocean- a totally "worth it" up-grade in hotel rooms. Make sure you are prepared for the costs of Everything in this resort- dinner for 5 was $180, breakfast buffet was over $100 for family of five. afternoon drinks were $50 by the lagoon, […] and stand up paddle boarding was $50 for an hour. Even a garden view room, in addition to a great gold course view had a silver of ocean. Kids loved the breakfast buffet, water slides, and the macaws placed throughout the hotel. I loved the art and the long pathways to walk along the ocean and the many places to sit or enjoy nature. Best of all was the lagoon- feeds directly to the ocean and has fish, sea turtles, and even an eel that wandered in. Shallow water not more than 6 - 8 feet feet at the deepest part and a perfectly clear, perfect conditions for snorkeling and swimming with the fish. Ocean water waterfall incredible, and the sandy shoreline with plentiful reclining chairs and bar service means after paddle boarding, kayaking, snorkeling, swimming... You can be delivered something delicious to your parched lips. We didnt go, but they also have Swimming with dolphins on site- I walked by and watched for a while. Beautiful and intimate setting for interacting with nature. Best stay on the Big Island. Les mer

Very, very beautiful place. It could have been anywhere, however. Very sterile. Every single thing "included" at the resort actually had an extra and steep price. We spent twice as much for food, activities, and transportation as we would elsewhere.

I would recommend this hotel for those truly looking for a resort. Otherwise you may feel trapped by the enormity of the place. They run special deals to try to get people to eat on site which can be helpful. As someone who wanted to do other things in the area, it was a challenge to plan ahead for the 20 plus minutes it took to walk from my room to […] my car (and I walk quickly). I guess this is to be expected at a 62,000 acre resort (that is what their materials said) but a bit challenging. Despite all that, I could not ind a pool towel at 9pm when the pool is open until 11pm and it took 15 minutes of hunting around with a poor staffer to find said towel. The resort fee of $25 does not really cover anything besides Internet access and they make you pay it. Another $17 for self parking on top of what is already a $200 plus room seems unwarranted. Also, at least if you stay in the Ocean Tower, the birds joyfully announce the sunrise- usually before 6am at least in February- and the rooms are not soundproofed. Les mer

First of all, I'm from South Korea. I stayed at the hotel for my honeymoon. The hotel was so big and nice that we could enjoy staying in the hotel. After checking in, our luggage took almost an hour to be delivered to our room. When finally delivered, he noticed the deadbolt on our door had fallen off (it was on the ground outside the room)so we had no 2nd lock. There was a gap under the door and since the doors to all the rooms open directly to the outside, you can hear everything! We were woken […] up at 4am by about 1000 birds going crazy out in the courtyard. Other guests were complaining about this as well-it was ridiculous! The room was shabby and rundown; linen was clean and bed was nice, but we were unimpressed with everything. This continues to the restaurant service. We ate at an outdoor place by the dolphins and our waitress was horrible! Nobody came for over 20min, my husband finally went to the bar to ask for service. We ordered, then never saw our waitress again until the end. Someone else brought our food, we had to track down a different waitress for water, and finally after waiting for forever for the bill, our waitress came by with it, all smiley and chipper. Terrible service for so-so food. On the morning of our checkout we called for assistance with our luggage and were told someone would be there in 10min...after waiting 35 min (no joke!) we finally hauled it down ourselves, and happily checked out of this hotel. We've had previous experience with Hiltons, and most are decent, but we will never stay here again! Les mer

The rooms were a bit dated and could use a little facelift and the food could bankrupt you if you don't watch your money. That being said, it is a great place for families. Once we figured out that everyone bought their meals from the local market and ate in their rooms to save money, we were much happier!

My family and I really enjoyed our stay at the resort. Beautiful grounds and we loved all the different sculptures, statues, artwork and museum pieces everywhere you looked. We snorkeled everyday in the lagoon which is ideal for beginners or children. So many turtles in the water swimming along with you, it was great! So many places to sit and watch […] amazing sunsets. We never had a bad meal, all the food was very good. We had just a few issues, such as very long waits in the lobby to sign up for things, not enough staff perhaps? Also, we hated having to pay a 25$ resort fee every day, for what? Free Internet and DVD rentals? We don't mind paying a higher rate for resorts, especially this one which had so much to offer but an additional daily resort fee on top of the room rate and very high rates for anything offered at the resort, renting kayaks, paddle boats, swimming with the dolphins etc.... The resturants are also extremely expensive, breakfast prices were ridiculous. We went to Costco and bought cereal and milk and lots of snacks which worked out great! The resort is very beautiful and very large and a lot to offer but you do pay for it. Les mer

Based on Expedia reviews and reviews at other travel sites, we knew this wasn't going to be the Four Seasons -- but it was perfect for our kids, both the 3 year old and the 13 year old. Waterslides, sea turtles, salt-water lagoon with paddleboats and snorkeling, mini-golf, motorized trams, waterfalls, dolphins, pretty good pizza, free PS3 and Blu-Ray […] rentals, etc. -- what's not to love? The rooms were indeed a bit dated, and the property itself isn't always in tip-top shape (including garbage floating in the waterways, etc.). And as others have said, the restaurants are a rip-off and not always high quality. But hey, you're a tourist in Hawaii! Overall, this place offered a fantastic family getaway. Hotel has a lot to offer for families with kids. We used valet parking to save some time, still the commute from lobby to room can easily be 20 min, mostly waiting for train or boat. The resort is very large and spread out. Much time is spent walking from point A to point B, or waiting for a tram or boat if one does not feel like walking. My room was on the 8th floor (nice view) however no where near an elevator, which made hauling all of our luggage a chore.

Buy walking shoes. Only one elevator per tower. Smoking section is in dark secluded areas. There's not enough staff when you need one. Very beautiful grounds. Needs a better detailed map of where to locate everything.

As the resort is somewhat out of the way from anything (billed as a "destination in itself") you're really expected to eat at the restaurants there. And the restaurants are somewhat sub-par for a 4-star and expensive to boot. The Chinese restaurant's food is not above a Chinese fast food takeout. The Japanese Teppanyaki was quite good - the steak was […] very soft and juicy but the veggies were non-descipt. The Kemula Provision Company was good, probably best of the bunch - we didn't go there to watch the sunset but it would be amazing. A little pricey. At the Kona Beach cafe the lobster burgers were expensive ($25) and didn't taste at all like lobster. Worst was the buffet breakfast ($30) - all the food items were subpar, only thing up to standard was the fresh made omlet bar. The Luau onsite was actually very well-done. Lots of good food (we did the sit-down VIP seating and not the self-serve buffet) and the performers were good. The stage was a little small scale but it was intimate. For recreation, the lagoon was actually were nice - much better than a real beach (next doors at the Marriott) for our toddler. Lots of shallow places for her to play in, and if you wander a little bit out there's coral fish and even turtles in the lagoon when you snorkel. The other pools were nice but a little spread out, depending on which tower you stay in. Les mer

The art & the grounds of this hotel is outstanding. We found our room to be pleasing but noticed the cleanliness was below standard. The vanity sink had mold under the rim & hair left on the counter. The mirror on the bathroom door was marked with splashes & smears, there was more long black hair stuck to the shower wall & the hair dryer was so sticky […] & covered with hair that nobody would want to touch it. We complained to housekeeping & their supervisor came to inspect & had the room cleaned again to our approval. They gave us a complimentary Big Island Breakfast & supplied us with some bottled water for the refrigerator. They were very apologetic & anxious to please. We would not hold this against the hotel...although these things should not happen, they do. Our experience during our stay was very nice although we found prices for their restaurants way above our expectations so we ate outside of the hotel often. Their added costs of $25 per day per room for amenities that we did not need or use was another disappointment. If money is no object this is a perfect place to vacation. Les mer

We were told that the self park was free, NOT TRUE, plus the walk, especially for Seniors or handicapped, from the parking to the hotel is terrible. The complex is large which is nice, but don't ever get in a hurry, the Tram only runs when they want, but you can always WALK & WALK., just what we want on vacation, right? We were reserved for a "mountain […] view" room, but the only thing we could see from our balcony was another tower and the yard between them, not a view that you want to sit on the balcony. The resort is beautiful to the eye, just be prepared to walk a lot, and don't ever get rushed to get anywhere, it will not happen. And do not always expect to get the room you reserved. Les mer

Upon arrival, front valet was very helpful and patient. We had to exchange our car rental and they helped us. Front Counter Staff were amazing! Very friendly and helpful with our million and one questions. AMAZING views and property! Room was excellent - overlooking the golf course. Clean and well maintained.
