Returned to San Francisco after 27years. Back then was on honeymoon, this time around was with the family after all those years. The Argonaut was first class in all respects. Location, staff, cleanliness and amenities. The whole family loved it and it contributed to a wonderful stay. Next time we won't leave it 27 years and we'll stay at Argonaut for […] sure. The hotel is clean and the location is good. However, the hotel has service and personnel problems. Upon my arrival at the hotel, I ordered soup from room service, but they forgot to include the spoon with the soup. I asked for a wake up call at 6:00 A.M (first day), and 8:30 A.M (second day), and the hotel front desk forgot to wake me up both days. […] Thanks to my iPhone alarm, I woke up on time otherwise I would have missed my meetings. I ordered an airport shuttle and put the fare on my Visa card. However, the hotel concierge neglected to tell me that the receipt she gave me was to be given to the shuttle driver. Upon arrival at the airport, assuming that I had paid the fare, I gave the driver a tip and left for my gate. The driver, thinking that I had not paid the fare, called airport security (the TSA) who confronted me at the gate. I was able to clear up the mixup without being arrested, but it was an upsetting experience . Les mer

Very fun and a bit funky hotel. Very close to Fisherman's Wharf and Fort Mason, easy walk to other great parts of the city. Great service, clean and comfortable rooms, great snacks! Definitely would stay again.

We booked this hotel because of the location: right on the cable car line and at the waterfront. I saw on the website that they we undergoing renovations so when we checked in, I mentioned that since we we celebrating our 36th wedding anniversary we we concerned about remodeling noise. We were assured that our room would be unaffected and no work was […] done at unusual hours. We were told to check out the room and if we didn't like it they would get us another. It was perfect. Everyone was so friendly. Blase at the front desk sent up Champagne and that got us through until the wine pour in the lobby they have each evening. We would definetely stay there again Les mer

The doorman and parking attendants were great when we arrived. They took care of the bags very quickly. Check in was smooth and our bags arrived at our room just minutes after we did! The hotel staff was friendly and the rooms very clean and comfortable. There was afternoon hot chocolate (a bit weak) and later wine in the lobby. The Hotel is on the […] edge of the Wharf area so a little quieter which was just what we wanted. The Cable Car is just around the corner and other public transportation is close. Kudos the the doorman, he held our car for us on checkout and we grabbed a bowl of chowder at the Blue Mermaid on his recommendation. Spacious rooms for SF - love the new decor - more muted yet still maintains nautical theme. Have stayed at other SF Kimpton hotels and this one upholds the same quality. Excellent front desk service as well as bellhop service. Would stay again.

This is a darling Hotel with a FABULOUS staff! They are so cheerful and helpful- can't say enough. Only downside was the wait for a cab in the morning. The hotel is located away from business district so be sure and leave early for meetings!

Overall, the hotel was great. Great customer service, great location, good sized rooms, very clean. My only complaint was we could hear our next door neighbors laughing and talking very early in the morning.

My wife and I enjoyed our stay at Argonaut Hotel very much. As tourist we had a few questions about things such as cab service, trolley service and train service to Sacramento and each staff person from front desk, bell hops and hotel consigliore were very helpful. The only complaint I would have with the hotel is lack of explanation for hotel charges. […] We prepaid prior to arriving and were told on check out that our bill was paid in full. Within a few days of our departure a charge from the hotel appeared on my charge card and I have not been able to obtain an explanation to date. Les mer

I booked the Argonaut on a recommendation from a friend who has stayed at the hotel. It was one of the best pieces of advice I have taken as the hotel was perfect for our needs. The staff, especially the doormen, were brilliant with my 8 year old son. The engaged him everytime we came and went, giving advice on what to do and where to go, thus making […] him feel special. The warning giving to him about the 'Bushman' was a classic, as we encountered this 'character' during our stay and it was duly reported back. There was a special questionaire for the kids, which they received a prize for once it was completed. A Wii station to keep them busy during the wine-tasting held each evening. For us the staff were very helpful, giving great advice and as it was our first trip to San Francisco, they gave 'local' recommendations on where to go, where to eat and the best way to see the sites. Every question was answered and extra effort was made to make sure we were given the best deals and info. This was above what was expected. The hotel is situated in a perfect location on the 'wharf front' in the old Cannery building, which is very close to all the main sites, usually no more than 5-10 minutes walk. Also it is next to a cable car, which made getting into the middle of town very easy and ticked off a must do in San Francisco. There is a free maritime museum attached to the foyer which is being expanded and made a great introductory start to our touring. The view from our room looked across the bay to Golden Gate bridge, which was a bonus. The mattresses in the room were wonderful, as were the pillows, making sleep at the end of a huge day easy to fall into. The selection in the mini bar was a nice change from the normal run of the mill items. It included an umbrella, bottle opener and unusual exotic confectionary, not just chips and chocolate. Loved this hotel! Great location at the end of Fisherman's warf and close to Giradelli Square. The room was comfortable and more than big enough for my two teenage daughters, my husband and myself. The staff was friendly and helpful and made us feel welcome. I already have a return trip planned.

I stay in various places in the City. Rarely do I stay by the Warf. What a great treat to have experienced a fabulous hotel with a wonderful staff. The wine reception was one of the best I have experienced while staying at a hotel. Argonaut is terrific!

The Argonaut may appear out of the mainstream in SF on a map, but it's incredibly close to our favorite spots in Little Italy and next door to the cable car turnaround. This Kimpton property is everything you'd expect from that brand ... quality and personality ... and way more quiet than the more famous places near Union Square. The bathroom could […] have been bigger, but I've never slept on a more comfortable bed with as many cushy pillows. Nice! Les mer

This is one of the nicest places I've ever stayed. Everything was clean and nice, the staff were great, and only a block or a couple of blocks to some of the greatest sightseeing in the city. I will absolutely return here again!

The location of the hotel is convenient. It is clean and is in a good neighborhood. However, I was not impressed with the receptionist, Sarah. She was rude, unfriendly, and not helpful. The bed is hard and is not very comfortable. our room is on the fourth floor. I can hear everything going on around us from people going in and out of their room, our […] neighbor water running as they are showering, cars driving by, and trash pickup trucks lifting and disposing garbage on the street. I could hardly sleep due to all the noises that surround us at night. Whether this is a business or a leisure getaway, I would not recommend this hotel for the price and 4star rating that it was posted for. Les mer

Perfect location. Lovely hotel. Great value. Rooms were very clean and extremely comfortable. Staff extremely friendly and helpful. Good value. We were travelling with a 7 and 10 year old who would also highly recommend this hotel. Only downside is cost of parking in the area. Would be good if they had a special rate with a nearby parking lot.

Had a great time, took great care of us for just one night. WOW would highly recomend them

we were so please with our stay the staff was excellant and the rooms were so comfortable. great location and i can" say enough about the staff!!

Excellent accomodations. This is a true 4 star hotel. The room was quite spacious, but needed at least one additional phone and a comfortable chair on which to sit. The desk chair seemed to be from a garage sale. Evening wine tastings were quite a hit. The staff was attentive and helpful. Be prepared to pay a lot for parking!

Staffs are friendly and room was excellent. Highly recommends. Parking fee needed.

This hotel is located a block from Ghirardelli Square, the cable car main station, bus routes, and in the heart of Fisherman's Wharf (oh, and right next to In-N-Out!). I would highly recommend The Argonaut. The staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, there was complimentary hot chocolate and wine in the evening and overall I had a wonderful […] stay! If in the area again I would book The Argonaut. The only negative I have is that the parking garage costs $47 a day (you can park around the corner at Ghirardelli Square for $35). Les mer

This is basically a standard inner city chain hotel with a few quirky extras. The nautical theme is whimsical and sort of fun. However, I do not understand where the family friendliness meme on this site comes from. There is nothing particularly family friendly here. No microwaves (to warm baby formula). A gigantic room but only two chairs? No little […] table to sit around? Very few towels. No pool (although you could swim in the harbor if you wanted). The only family friendly thing really is the rubber duckies that the kids can fish for in the lobby and I guess the free hot chocolate at 4 pm although we only managed that on one day as SF is not a city where you can easily get around and make certain times especially close to dinner time. Impressed with the helpfulness and friendlness of all the staff. Your dog's name gets put on a a welcome sign at the front of the hotel. Nice beds and bathroom was nice (not overly big but very functional). Our dog, who is usually very good in his crate for a few hours, must have been barking at something. Intead of recriminations, the staff was all […] smiles when we picked him up at the desk. We found that they had walked him a couple of times and generally made us feel a lot better about him. They have a nice hot chocolate bar reception in the afternoon followed by a wine reception. It is very convenient to many attractions around SF and right next to the Balcutha and a nice walking trail. Would definitely recommend this place highly. Les mer

We were in one of the five rooms on the fourth floor that was just renovated and because of this did not have a safe yet. When we informed the front desk they offered to have our valuables put in their safe room, they gave us a free dinner at their hotel a box of chocolates, and a bottle of wine. This is just an example of the level of customer service […] we have come to expect at The Argonaut hotel. Convinent location . Right on the harbour surrounded by many sea food Restaurents. The cable car terminal is right next to the hote. The food in the hotel restaurant is. Dry good. Try their famous clam chowder.

Outstanding location convenient to North Beach and Fishermans Wharf. Great for pets - and exceptional staff (particularly Ben and Kevin who moved a mountain of stuff from our car to our room). Nightly wine and cider in the lobby was a nice way to unwind. Equal to the great Kimpton standard at other properties.

They have a treasure chest for kids toget an item at check in. Convienant to everythi ng. They had a hot chocolate bar and wine bar through the day. Very friendly helpful staff. All at a reasonable price. Great themed rooms.

Wish I could have stayed more than 1 night. I hope to stay there again. The staff were attentive, informative, and seemed genuinly concerned with making it the best stay. The hotel was supposed to be completing a remodel but it had no effect on my stay, I saw no signs of construction. Hotel has a lovely nautical theme. The staff are friendly and accommodating and the room comfortable and clean. The wine reception in the evening is a welcome after a day's sightseeing. Location a little disappointing (not the hotel's fault) just a personal opinion as we expected a bit more from Fisherman's Wharf. It is however close to a tram stop […] which takes you into the main shopping area. Les mer

Although a very low key hotel, the nautical furnishings and waterfront location give the guest a neighborhood feeling very different from other hotels we have stayed in in San Francisco. We loved exploring Hyde Pier and the historic waterfront park, watching the activities at the local swimming and rowing club, and strolling to the Buena Vista Cafe […] (a mere block away). The cable car terminus is just steps from the hotel front door, opening the possibility of going anywhere in San Francisco without having to climb the hills on your own two feet. We have stayed in many San Francisco hotels over the years, but this was the first time that we had a sense of being a part of a working port. We'll return for sure! Les mer

Great location, upscale hotel, very friendly service. We stayed in a newly remodeled room, which could have used better sound proofing. Otherwise great stay.

The Argonaut has the old time feel on the outside but is modern on the inside. Absolutely loved it. The front desk people were awesome.

This place is great. Everything is clean and the service is amazing. It's really close to Fishman's Wharf so there are lots of cool things to do within walking distance. The free wine reception every night put this place over the top.

Situated in Fisherman's wharf and so close to all the attractions in this area and to good reataurants. The hotel staff are friendly and from the doorman to the concierge and front desk, they go out of their way to make you feel welcome. it is also pet friendly so you can bring your canine friends along. The beds are comfortable and attractively furnished. […] Loved the tiger striped bathrobes. Would have loved to attend the complimentary wine sessions in the afternoon but kept missing it. Les mer

I think I was expecting way too much from this hotel when it was rated number 1 on tripadvisor for hotels in Fisherman's Wharf. Staff weren't helpful, rooms were way too small and ovrelooking other rooms so you couldn't open your shutters. I even wrote them an email stating it was a special occasion for my partner and I, and no response. It was clean […] and great location but I won't be back. Les mer

The room was the only downside of the stay. The hotel is located in an amazing neighborhood and great options within walking distance. I'm not saying the room was bad, but the decor was not my style. But parking isn't cheap so I recommend taking a taxi or the train here.

I cannot fault this hotel. Our room although smaller than many we have stayed in was perfectly functional with a comfortable king size bed, immaculate ensuite and a wardrobe/storage cupbaord inc a safe. It is well furnished and decorated with a maritime theme, so lots of blue and white strips:-) There is a stocked fridge which we did not use. The hotel […] has a business centre which is not free but expensive to use. The hotel serve free hot chocolate in the after noon and wine at 5 - 6pm ish with a jar for tips. This meeting area is a fair size with seating for 15ish people, there is an open fire too which is nice to sit by on a cold day. The staff were all fantastic, very friendly and helpful. we ate breakfast in the Blue Mermaid Chowder House which is part of the hotel, breakfast is lovely as was dinner when we ate there. The location is great if you want some chill out time but want to be close to transport too. There is a beach really close by and a pleasant walk along the pier to view at the SF Bay, Alcatraz etc. Around the hotel are plenty of really nice seafood restaurants as well as cheaper noodle bars etc. The historic cable car terminal is across the road from the hotel, where they have long queues, if you walk 100 yards up the hill from the terminal there is a cable car stop where you will mainly will not have to queue, the cable car will leave space at the terminal for extra people to be picked up en route to Powell Street.
