Heythrop Park Hotel - Chipping Norton

Beautiful grounds and buliding. Some staff very good and helpful (especially the bar team saturday night, thank you). Breakfast was really bad, not just poor but not edible. Complained but reciptionist unable to manage. Asked manager to contact me / follow up, never got a call. PS Breakfast charge was £19.95!!

I think I was unlucky. It's very luxurious but didn't live up to it's grandiose appearance. When I checked in I said I'd like room service, which wasn't offered in the room I was booked into, I had to upgrade, so I did. An hour later I tried to order (about 7pm,) I was told room service didn't start until 9.30pm & that now the restaurant was fully booked. […] I had to go to another bar area where the food was not far from a microwave meal (costing £15) & the hotel wouldn't refund the upgrade even though the only reason for upgrading was room-service. I was further upset because I'm pregnant & it's not really up to me when I eat & I had a lot of work to do which is why room-service would have been ideal. We had an enjoyable night, the whole place appeared to be a lot cleaner this stay, and the English staff a lot more pleasant and helpful. Please keep it up. ps. one little complaint, the drinks could be a bit cheaper.

I booked online three hours earlier but on arrival it took nearly two hours to find it as all the booking staff had gone home.(Even with a fax an email from hotels.com) Poor service from the front of house as she just stood there waiting for me to just disappear and served all the other people before looking into my booking. The reception was poorly […] marked with everyone asking if they were in the right place on arrival. The way to the room was through a fire exit in to what looked like the delivery corridor. The room was in the main building and it was not as described , very basic and small . It had a very used bed with just enough room to walk around and the TV was just a snow storm. The room had that lived in feel , walls painted plain white and nothing else. Very basic room more like student hall than hotel. I will never book this one again. Les mer

Would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Other than the Maitre d' in the Terrace restaurant the service was appalling from all members of staff. The room was horrible, with a dirty bed cover, hairs in the shower tray, and wallpaper peeling off the walls to name a few issues.

For me and my husband the hotel was fine. Not luxurious but it was fine and did the job. However I also booked a couple of friends of ours into the hotel and they had a room with a view of the bins with the staff cigarette break area. This meant they had to either stay in a stuffy room with the window closed or open the window and be inundated with […] the smell of smoke. Also EARLY in the morning they were woken up with someone, obviously a manager, shouting at a member of staff for being late. Not what you want to wake up to early on a Sunday morning. I feel guilty as I booked this hotel and my friends didn't have a good stay at all. This is why I would not recommend the hotel to others. Les mer

Stayed in the conference wing in a room which was obviously designed for delegates - it was no frills which was surprising based on the standard of the rest of hotel. However, I was quite happy with it for the price - I was staying for a wedding and the rooms in the posher wing were very expensive. Take your own toiletries.

my small and cosy room overlooked the 18th green - the golf course is beautiful although costly to play - the staff at the were very helpful however, we had a long wait of 2 hours for bar meals on the first night at the Crowne Plaza next door.

The hotel is a poor conversion of a classic Country House. The noise from the neighbouring rooms indicates paper thin walls and sound transmitting flooring. Sharing the neighbours urination and toiletries, let alone their nocturnal athletics is not pleasant. I would not stay here again despite the glorious setting. The price was right and the pictures looked good so we booked it, but we should have heeded the feedback from other guests. The outside and grounds are amazing but that is about it. The rooms are old and dormitory like. feels like a 1970's office. A lot of the lights in the public areas were off so you had to walk down dark corridors to get to your […] room, and I don't mean dim... literally dark. Not a gracious country house hotel, more a place for weekend golf and conventions - conversion to commercial use years ago is clumsy in some areas. But the public rooms overlooking the park are beautiful, breakfast was very good in a large sunny room overlooking the grounds. Food at dinner was very good, although over-priced. The booking had not been processed by the hotel, so had to wait while room was allocated. The room had not been serviced. The dining and bar facilities were in the adjoining Crowne Plaza. On check out the hotel tried to charge for the accommodation, despite having been pre-paid via hotels.com and the hotel would not credit the Priority Club loyalty […] points. Overall a very disappointing experience from what should have been a top quality hotel. Les mer

Depressing conference type hotel pokey tired rooms and a bathroom that required immediate modernising. Uninspiring breakfasts and expensive restaurant which led to us to dine at the Falkland Arms in Great Tew at a fraction of the price. Felt totally ripped off and would never return.

If you are expecting to enjoy a leisurely and delicious breakfast, forget it. We were greeted with a dining room where the tables were covered with dirty dishes. Our table had not been set up. We had to find some clean cutlery. The cooked breakfast was lukewarm, no pastries, croissants or bread rolls were available. We were not served coffee,until we […] asked for it. There were not enough staff on duty and we were completely ignored. We would have had a far better breakfast at a greasy spoon cafe. Don't waste your time and energy complaining because it got us nowhere. Give Heythrop Park a miss if you are looking for a 3 star hotel with good service. Les mer

I stayed in one of the cheaper rooms at this hotel but we could use all the amenities. Our price included breakfast. The grounds were beautiful. I would recommend this hotel highly.
