Ocean Reef Yacht Club & Resort - Freeport

It was really nice to have a washer/Dryer, Three bedroom with each having their own bath. The large dinning table was great for all of us to socialize. Generally I enjoyed the stay. It would be nice to be closer to port lucaya, but the taxi drivers were very entertaining.

There were many things broken in this hotel, it looked run down (the elevator was broken the entire week we were there, thankfully we didn't need it). They did things at their own pace, with no regard to posted schedules (i.e. the smaller pool bar was to open at 8am each day, it opened between 8:45-9:15 each day). The big pool bar was pretty nice, the […] pool was nice, but the area where you'd swim up to order your drinks and/or food was disgustingly dirty and you had to be in it to order. On our last day there the hot tub was pretty close to the temperature of the pool. The drink menu at the Grouper Grill showed specific sizes for their drink specials of 2/$6 of 9oz. We only got 9 oz cups once during our stay. The rest of the time they were 7 oz cups and we were told that yes, they were indeed 9 oz when we asked (the size is printed on the bottom of the cup). They hound you for a timeshare presentation and don't take no for an answer when you don't want to go. If I went back to the Bahamas, I'd look into staying at Island Seas, a place recommended by two people (one of them lives and works in the Bahamas, one of them visits the Bahamas relatively frequently). I can't say there was a lot to do. The resort is not located on the beach and they didn't have many resort sponsored activities. But since I was going for R & R and not Fun int the Sun it all worked for me,

I visited this trip via Expedia but also own two weeks at Ocean Reef. I did notice that I get a much better one bedroom apartment when I use my weeks. The apt we got was very small but clean and included everything we needed. The resort is a very quiet and relaxing place to stay.

The ocean reef was everything we could have asked for. This was only my second visit to the Bahamas and my companion's first. The Ocean Reef staff made us feel welcome from the moment we stepped out of the cab. The staff is helpful and friendly. We had a one bedroom apartment that was roomy and well appointed looking out over the channel. My companion […] participated in the Introduction to Scuba class offered by Fred and Melinda at Grand Bahama Scuba, located right there at the hotel. This was a diving trip for me and I chose the Ocean Reef because of Grand Bahama Scuba being located there. If you want to go diving while you're on Grand Bahama, look them up. We walked to the beach and the Lucaya marketplace. If you don't like to walk, and don't want to pay the price of a taxi, they have a daily beach shuttle and the buses can get you just about anywhere for a very reasonable price. The Ocean Reef also has a free shuttle that will take you to the grocery. I think the staff makes the hotel, and the Ocean Reef has an excellent staff. They were rather persistent in their Time Share marketing. Over all, I would definitely recommend the Ocean Reef to friends and fellow divers. Les mer

I read some of the other reviews that weren't as positive and I don't know if there has been a change in management, but our experience was perfect! Our townhouse was reasonably priced, very roomy, very comfortable and clean. The resort rents kayaks for $5 a day (which we took advantage of) and it was close to town. Staff was super friendly and helpful, […] and the food was good at the restaurant. It is generally quite, but that was a plus for us! It's not brand new, but it's very well kept. Staff was very professional and friendly. I had a one bedroom suite. The space was very compact but nice. There are many amenities offered at the hotel - 2 pools, fitness room, free scuba diving lesson, restaurant on the premises, computer access, sailing, etc. Overall, the hotel was nice, but the bed in my room was lumpy and there is not enough space […] for your clothes. The hotel was to far from the beach or port Lucaya market. The shutle to Taino Beach leaves only once à day at 10 pm. You had to change your own linnen!!! And only 2 days in the week there is towel exchange. So price-quality is not equal. The reception closes at 5 pm so there is nobody there.
