Sun Viking Lodge - Daytona Beach

We loved the location on the beach, the room, and having a full kitchenette in our room! The staff was great, the room was super clean, and it was all we needed for a great beach weekend with no worries! The kids loved the indoor and outdoor heated pools and the atmosphere of families made us feel more relaxed about letting them run to the vending machines […] by themselves for a quick treat. My family recently visited our son at Embry Riddle, and chose the Sun Viking and we're glad we did. 5 of us share a suite with an ocean view. The set up was fantastic for a family and the beds were splendid with fresh linens. The room smelled clean when you opened the door. We loved the bench in front of our room where we could sit and stare at the […] ocean. The grounds were park like. The kids were thrilled to find out the outdoor pool was heated and the huge slide was open in the middle of winter. The staff was wonderful. We've stayed at half a dozen or more hotels on the strip since we frequent Daytona, and this is where we will be coming back to. The price was reasonable as well. Les mer

We were on a toad trip from Washington DC to the Florida Keys & decided on Daytona as a good stopping point. We booked the Sun Viking Lodge because the price was low & and others here had given it good reviews. When we checked in I felt like we had stepped back in time about 30 years. The decor of this hotel is dated and reminded me of the many summers […] we spent in Daytona when I was a kid. However, the hotel has been well maintained & was very clean. Since we were only there for one night we really didn't get to take full advantage of all this place had to offer. There are at least two pools, one with a great water slide. Its right on the beach too. We had a room in the high rise building that slept 6 comfortably and was outfitted with a decent kitchen. Should my travels take us to Daytona again we would definitely stay here again. Les mer

My room was in the two story motor court building adjacent to the taller one with the indoor pool. The room was adequate and the kitchenette was good, full-size refrigerator, etc. However, the room smelled of mold/urine and the outdoor pool with "60 foot water slide" was closed. The indoor pool was nice-granted this was November and an off-season weekend, […] but I think that properties should notify websites and booking agencies if they can't live up to their billings for whatever reasons. And the smelly room combined forces me to give "Sun Viking Lodge" a thumbs down. Les mer

The price was good and they had two swimming pools. One was cooler and outside and one was warmer and inside. There was also a jaccuzi that I loved. It is also right by the ocean. Wonderful. We picked this hotel based on the reviews and the ever popular water slide. We chose the most cost effective room. When we checked in we were offered a room upgrade for $10. That would have moved us from a street facing room to a parking lot facing room. We were only staying one night so we decided against the upgrade. Unfortunately it was very noisy. […] It was the start of Biketoberfest so we could hear motorcycles going up and down the street most of the night. Other than that our stay was great. It is a very family friendly hotel. There are two pools, the kid favorite - the waterslide, a hot tub and direct access to the beach. They also have a nice playground for young children. This hotel was absolutely wonderful! The staff is very friendly and helpful. Our first night we stayed in a one room with double beds which exceeded my expectations. At our request for the rest of our stay we upgraded to a two room suite definitely a must if you are traveling with younger childern. This property is amazing for familys!!! I booked a hotel on line in hopes to be on the ocean while my son moved into a nearby University. I could have stayed right next to his college in a newer hotel at the same price but wanted to be on the ocean. Unfortunately, while I knew I was in a less expensive hotel and booked a "motel style room without a view", I was disappointed to find out that […] the room actually had NO windows and smelled like they had just turned on the AC about an hour before I got there. Quite musty smelling. They offered me "a view of the parking lot" for $20 more--I declined. The front desk also smelled of ciagarette smoke. Additionally the hot tub area was foul and in poor maintenance, but the indoor and outdoor pool seemed in nice shape. I'd avoid this property if truly interested in a nice place to stay on the beach, however. Les mer

This is the first time we were extremely dissatisfied with the hotel we got through hotels .com We didn't get a room in the building sited on the web page it was a room in the old building right on the road it smelled of urine and the air conditioner was blowing air that smelled like mold. I read the great reviews for this hotel as I was searching for a place to stay in Daytona Beach and was a little surprised when we arrived. It is a nice, clean, OLDER, hotel. So as long as you don't expect the new, more updated resort-type places, you won't be disappointed. Pros: always felt safe, better towels than some resorts, no musty beach smell, […] great old-fashioned water slide into outdoor pool (this was the hi-light for our daughter). Cons: older without new or updated furniture (tube tv), tiny bathroom with odd angle that made it hard to see in mirror to get ready, pretty small outdoor pool (got very crowded in afternoons). The beach at the hotel was clean and beautiful with smooth, white sand. I think we would give it another try as long as we could get a different room plan with a different bathroom layout. Les mer

We recently returned from our Florida vacation staying 2 nights at the Sun Viking Lodge . We had a 1 bedroom garden view room in the tower. The kids loved the beach, we used the indoor pool the first afternoon as it was raining. We took advantage of the mini-kitchen and had our breakfasts in the room as there are many stores for groceries nearby. We […] ordered lunch from the Viking Cafe and the prices were reasonable. The initial appearance upon arrival was disappointing but once we got into our room it was clean and well maintained. The elevator smelled like bug spray our entire stay but the grounds and pool area was well kept and clean. I would stay here again but I would not recommend it to others.

By the look online, this hotel had it all. When we pulled up, we were quickly disappointed. The room was dark, dingy, dirty and small. We felt that the website was a total misrepresentation of all the amenities and looks of the hotel. Luckily we were only booked for one night. Would never stay again!

the sunviking hotel was a great family place they had activities for the kids and the pools where nice and a great view of the beach. we would go back there again

This hotel is totally geared toward families looking to stay on the beach. Both the indoor and outdoor pools were great. The daily activities were a hit with the whole family. The hotel is not the newest and shiniest, but it is great in every regard. We would love to come back for another stay anytime.

This hotel - while not the glitzy, new high rises that you see - was far more than adequate, but nothing fancy. My son LOVED the water slide and heated pool (the ocean was simply too cold in early May). The room had black out curtains so the light from the breeze way didn't bother us. Parking was fine. The cafe closed early but there were many restaurants […] close by. We didn't walk anywhere but drove and everything was within 10 minutes. Employees were always available and seen (cleaning pool, emptying trash bins, sweeping, etc) and they even made sure that the people in the pools were wearing the bracelets. My stay at the hotel was wonderful. There were one or two issues, however they were resolved quickly by front desk staff. Would stay again!!

I'm pretty picky about hotels, but I was happy with Sun Viking. It's definitely geared towards families, but even as a single adult I was pleased. It was great to be on the beach, and even the water slide was pretty fun. Hotel was clean, and I was impressed at the size of the kitchen. Decent breakfast at their little "Kafe" too.

Clean, comfortable, well kept area and the staff was very accomodating.

Incredibly friendly people and perfect location on the beach!!! Room doesn't mean much when you are on the beach all day. If you need anything the staff is very accomadating. Don't hesitate on this one unless you don't like kids...there were a lot of kids in the pools all the time. If you are a family it is perfect.

I took my 16 yr old daughter and her friend on Spring Break and stayed here. We had a 2 room suite- 2 beds in bedroom, pull down Murphys bed in living area- all were comfortable. Kitchen was well equipped, location was nice, we were totally comfrotable and enjoyed our stay. Nice for families, well kept for older style hotel. The hotel was what we expected. We booked at the last minute during spring break and there was not a whole lot to choose from. You cannot pay half of what the other hotels are charging and expect to get the same thing. The room was clean and the staff was friendly and very helpful.

We stayed the 1st night in a regular room. Was not happy with that room. 2nd night stayed on the 8th floor with ocean from view and loved it. So based on 1st night we would not rent again. Based on 2nd night we would definitely rent again. Larry was very helpful, thank you.

Well. We stay in the hotel. 1, rooms smell horrible, they don't provide not even coffe or sugar or paper towel, not even sponge for dishes. We reserve and paid for Oceanfront with kitchen and we don't even had a soap for disches. So we have to buy everything. Thants not great start. Indoor pool is nice, but the Kafe is not that great. The lady who run […] the Kafe speak a dirty language like a sh....,, dem... and more, so be carefull your kids don't lessen. One day was bad weather, so we have to stay in the hotel room all day, they even lose the indoor pool, next day we try to get late check out and they said no I am not paid this money to just sit in the room. We can easily use indoor pool or Jacuzzi, but gues what, the Jaccuzzi not work eather. So we definitely don't come back at thi hotel, but try The Cove at Ormond Beach. Imazing, Les mer

The hotel lived up to expectations. It is an older hotel but was very well kept. The staff were very friendly and helpful in making sure our stay was a good one. We were in Daytona for the Daytona 500 so rates were extremely high. Nice location, but old and tired facility. With the shower curtain closed there was next to no light available in the shower. The air conditioner was NOISY. So was the small refrigerator that had some sort of vibration problem. I switched both off to get to sleep. I just know there has to be better value for money in the Daytona area.

We stay in Daytona a few times a year and decided to try the Sun Viking. We were pleasantly surprised! The rate was very fair, the staff was friendly and accommodating, and the room was clean and well stocked in everything from dishes to an ample supply of towels. I visit the Daytona Beach area often, and stay at mostly 2.5 star properties, but I had never stayed at the Sun Viking Lodge. We were in the main buiding and had a "garden view" room on the second floor which overlooks the indoor pool. Suffice it to say that this was the best value I've experienced. There just was not one thing that I could point out as being detracting from what was a very enjoyable stay. I would suggest to other hotel owners/managers to take a lesson from the Sun Viking Lodge. The hotel staff were very friendly at check-in which led us to think we'd have a great experience but when we got to our room we were somewhat disappointed. We were not able to get a room with a view as we wanted a king size bed and none were available. We enjoyed our stay and the staff was very friendly. We had the garden pool location and that was very nice. My son who is 5 years old had a wonderful time in the pool with the slide. I would recommend this hotel who have children to come and enjoy this hotel. I would give this hotel a high mark in customer service.

We were very pleased with our stay. The children had a great time on the water slide. It is an older hotel which is well kept up. For the price we paid our rooms were very nice. We would stay in this room and hotel again.

Although the room was clean and comfortable it was rather small and in a peculiar place.(tucked behind the indoor pool, very dark) I would ask for an ocean view next time. My kids would love the pool slide.

Very Family Friendly! You must be at least age 25 to make a reservation here, so that eliminates much of the college-age party-goers that are famous at Daytona Beach. I was impressed to see how many people left their beach towels and sand buckets on the bench outside their rooms, trusting that no one would steal them. They have family activities planned […] throughout the day, shuffleboard, and let you borrow equipment they have on hand (some left by previous tenents that didn't want to take it back on a plane) to take to the beach. You must bring your own beach towels. We got a room with kitchen, electric stove, full refrigerator, nice dishes, pots and pans, etc. Easy access to the beach. Various amenities available to guests.
