Friendly staff, free car park, decent speed of free internet, close to local shopping centre, easy access from the main road. My room could use some maintenance, for example it was not possible to adjust shower head. No A/C unit available, only heater. Comfy bed. Overall good price for money.

What can I say. I know what I'd like to say. One of the most inhospitable places I have ever stayed at. Miserable staff, hotel grounds in need of repair, would be interesting what a H&S inspector would highlight. The room was warm and comfortable, but did suffer from the noise from the main road next to the hotel. One issue I had was the room key stopped working after returning from a friends party had to go to reception and had to wait 5/10 for the night receptionist to turn up and correct the issue. Food was nice with unlimited drink and food for the basic […] contintential the £3 upgrade to the full english was nice to have but this is just for 1 breakfast as its cooked there and then where other hotels have diffrent areas for this. With a 12o clock check out it means you dont have to rush in the morning to get everything packed, you can go for breakfast and then relax in your room for a while then leave at your pleasure Les mer

You get what you pay for, perfectly adequate as long as you're not expecting the Ritz. Location good & facilities pretty good, the free Wi-Fi is a bonus, book early for best rates.

Room outdated. Only one plug socket for phone charger, kettle and small fridge. It was clean but did not look nice.

The room, whilst pretty spartan, had a very comfortable bed and a good/powerful shower. Our room was nice and quiet and faced the car park. We had a rate that included breakfast but we decided just to get up and go as we wanted to get a move on. The hotel was fine for us for an overnight stay after a party in nearby Billericay.

It was fine. Only thing is that there is no temperature control in the rooms, and I was very hot. Free wi-fi is a very good essential for me. Food was okay, cheese board excellent.

no serious complaints have stayed here before, however the free wifi offered in the room beat me... not a real issue as used personal wifi connection but the hotel could use a simpler system, we have not had problems connecting elsewhere , one last point, would be handy if you take a multi 3 pin extension as there is only one 3 pin socket in the room […] for charging laptops etc Les mer

I had a fantastic time. It was a brilliant hotel, very basic but all you need in a great location. Breakfast was cooked to order and was delicious, only thing I would say is that there was no black pudding on offer but besides that FANTASTICO!!!!! Worth the stay!!! Flo

I found it was close to all attrctions shops ect,it suited my reason for short stay,very clean though found it a bit dated staff and food pleasent.Room was chilly heater old ,bed confy and clean.Was dissapointed found wifi did not load on my lap top given number to phone at my exspence they could not work it out so had no internet all weekend.

The free Wi-Fi advertised never worked in our half of the hotel even after raising the issue. I stopped for three nights and had three staff members also stay, while cleanliness was OK the rooms were very dated and run down.

This is a budget class hotel with a cheap daily rate. However, the hotel rooms are in desperate need of refurbishment. The room was clean but very tired and dismal with wet patches on the floor of the bedroom. I would not return to this hotel or recommend this hotel to anyone else.

Me and my friends were only staying at the hotel for a night as we were out on the town in essex, so we weren't expecting much! It was fine for a place to sleep for a night, the beds were comfy, tv in the room etc so for the 2* hotel it was reasonable and I would definitely stay there again (just for a place to sleep at the end of the night!) Unfortunately […] our bottle opener had been nicked! But luckily we didnt need one anyway! The room was hot and stuffy because of the heatwave we've had recently, apparently there was air con (somewhere) but we didnt know where or how to use it and the windows only opened about a centimetre! Little bit noisy as we were facing the car park but what do you expect! Overall, it was as you might expect for a 2* hotel, and I had looked at reviews before my stay and I did get worried!! But honestly, its a 2* hotel so you really shouldn't be expecting fine dining and room service! You get what you pay for! I read people who stayed here for their honeymoon! Their own silly faults!! We have had some dreadful experiences at some of the cheaper hotel chains, so we weren't expecting much from the Campanile, but we were pleasantly surprised. The American motel-style rooms were clean, well-maintained and comfortable. Fine if you just want somewhere to lay your head down for one night. We were at a wedding in a nearby hotel and it was fine for our purposes. Would not dream of staying here for more than one night. Extremely dated, with small, dark rooms and poorly tended outdoor area. Looked on the brink of closing down.

We booked 2 rooms for 2 nights. on arrival the desk clerk was brilliant and very helpfull, full marks. Entering room 78 you were overwhelmed by an acrid stench of vomit. Back to desk, apologis and different room, 82. So we now have rooms, 80 & 82. Both rooms were clean, warm. Beds and pillows clean and fresh. Showers in both rooms were brilliant. Car […] parking and access easy, Location of hotel spot on. On the second night (late)trying the card key with our late takaway found they did not work had to have them reactivated at desk. Receptionist kept us waiting while she finished some paperwork. Two staff gave us incorrect directions, one to find the Hotel (not easy to find if you don't know the area), one to find our dinner location. Toilet was stained, water marks on basin, tap corroded, bath slippery when used as a shower & no safety mat available, grouting to bathroom floor […] looked grubby. Curtain didn't quite cover window. I booked the Campanille at Basildon due to staying in one previously at Dartford. But I was shocked when i got to my room the difference in the standard between the two. Im a young female staying away on my own and I didnt feel secure here. It felt seedy at the one in Basildon and dated hence the low price which I feel was still over priced as I thought […] I'd be staying at one like in Dartford. When I got to the room it was freezing cold and the heating took 3 hours to feel any warmth. Breakfast was good though, and the choice good too. Les mer

This hotel looks a little run down from the outside, but the rooms were quite modern, very clean and comfortable. Reception staff were very friendly and efficient. We checked in at 2.00pm and had no problems. Didn't eat at the restaurant but it looked OK. This hotel didn't have many good reviews, as such I was reluctant to book here but I was pleasantly surprised. The check in was brilliant, really quick and efficient, I couldn't have asked for more. The hotel is very like an american-style motel with a separate outside door to each room, convenient if you're a smoker, you can just nip outside really […] quickly. My room was ground floor and only a few paces away from the car park. The hotel is right next to the dual-carriageway and you can hear the traffic, not so much that it stopped me sleeping though, but if you're a light sleeper it might not be suitable for you. The room itself was rather small, but it was very clean, comfortable, in good order and had the basic facilities you would need including a bottle opener attached to the wall (?!) presumably so you can crack open a bottle of Stella should you wish to in true Essex spirit! No trouser press but this wasn't a problem for me. The bed was okay, certainly adequate for a good night's sleep. Checking out was just as easy as check in, which makes such a pleasant change in this day and age where everything seems to be a drama - not at the Campanile, just simple, basic, accomodation, if this is what you're looking for, then go ahead. I really liked this place for what it was, don't expect the Ritz, but it does what it says on the tin. Les mer

This hotel is like an American Motel with the stairs and corridors on the outside. This is no issue as i quite like having your own front door so to speak, Decent sound insulation from the road. I could see it from our window. Once the inside porch door is closed the sound is very minor. The room is adequate for most situations. The hotel from the outside looked ok, but I could already tell that the rooms were tiny. And I wasnt wrong. The room was very dim- even with all the lights on. As me and my fiancée were going to an anniversary party, and I had gone straight from work, I was hoping to iron my outfit. However there was no iron to be seen. I picked this hotel because of its location being close to a party. And the reviews on all other hotels were so bad. But next time I won't drink and drive home! Also there was someone a few doors for ours who arrived backup there room at 3am, they couldn't get in so they decided to knock on the door for an hour very loudly. And the Walls are paper thin!
