Ikke la deg skremme dersom du har hørt eller lest at Axel Hotel er et gay-friendly hotel og du derfor tror at du vil være omringet av homofile par til en hver tid. Jeg og min kjæreste(vi er mann og kvinne) bodde på hotellet i 4 netter og så faktisk ikke et eneste homofilt par på hotellet. Derimot var det flere andre ikke-homofile-kjærestepar. Vi har […] absolutt ingenting imot mennesker som velger det samme kjønn, men vi var redd vi føle oss litt utilpass og ille til mote dersom vi var det eneste straite paret på hotellet. Dette var altså IKKE et problem. Axel Hotel er et hyggelig og flott hotel som ligger godt sentralt i Barcelona. Kun en 100m og gå til t-bane. Hotellrommene er romslige og koselige. Personalet er veldig imøtekommende og hjelpsomme og gir deg gjerne en oppgradering for en liten penge hvis man ønsker det. Anbefales! Les mer

Hotellet synetes vi var veldig bra. De var hyggelig i både resepsjonen og i spa avdelingen. Vi trivdes veldig godt.

Hotellets beliggenhet i forhold til sentrumsnærhet OK OBS til de som føler ubehag homofil påtrengenede stil . Dystert i heis - redligth stil.

Hotellet ligger bra til, nærhet til alt. Fantastisk flott takterasse med basseng, i tillegg har hotellet et bra treningsenter og spaavdeling. Jeg synes dog i grunn personalet ikke var spesielt imøtekommende. Bestille drinker i baren tok evigheter og barpersonalet bevisst overså mange av gjestene. Overarbeidet kanskje? The Hotel is in walking distance to many of the major sights in Barcelona, and is situated in a nice neighborhood (if not a bit gay).. but who cares. Premium rooms are nice with a large bathroom section, and are well stocked. Hotel service is varying, and the guy having the weekend watch was not the most enthusiastic person in the world. The roof top […] bar plays music until 2 am every night (in the summer), so if you are easily disturbed you should stay somewhere else. Vi var skeptisk til hotellet før avreise pga hetrofriendly reklamen, men det var ikke til bry når vi kom frem. Hyggelig betjening, fint bygg og bra beliggenhet gjorde oppholdet vårt helt topp. Flott takterasse med svømmebasseng og boblebad, dyre drinker i baren! Noe harde senger/tykke puter og små rom trakk ned Anbefales også til streite par :)

Gay friendly hotel med utsøkt smak og beliggenhet i sentrum av Barcelona. Anbefales på det sterkeste. Gir gode tilbud hvis man bestiller i god tid og lett å finne fram etter en lang dag m,ed shopping.

Hotellet passer både for oss som nybakt familie og for single eller par. Kjempe hyggelig betjening, perfekt plassering i forhold til shopping, deilig rom (vi bodde i et superiorrom uten utsikt) og flotte fasiliteter som treningsrom, badstue, boblebad og basseng på taket. We arrived early and left our bags, on our return there was a problem with the electricty so no power to parts of the Hotel including the rooms and reception. With this in mind the reception staff were execelent in their handling of their customers as it was checkin time and a que was forming. We were quickley checked in and upgraded to a suite so no […] complaints there. I must say at this point I am not someone that would normaly stay in a suite,so after the inital WoW! I now have to comment, the lack of electricty aside (daytime) and windows the entire length of the suite light was not a problem. The terrace was fantastic and large enought for a party for 30 people. Bed was comfortable and room was clean, the suite was designed around the building and made the best use of space so in all the other half live very well indeed. The only comments would be, Interior Design, in the attempt at the "Cool" ? In the bathroom there was no door so there was a damp smell, the floor and wall finising was in a gray and cream giving a diry look although spotless, and the restaurant was closed when it was supposed to be open. With this in mind and considdering that to date I have had cause in most hotels I have stayed in to complain eg safe not working, noisy boiler etc, and always stay (4* up). The hotel is great and the staff will make the stay all the more enjoyable, extremely friendly. WiFi could do with upgrading as a little slow, but there are 2 terminals on the 1st floor to make those all important airline return check-ins. Good location and the district has character. Beware of pick-pockets possing as lost and looking for directions, […] they are about (we got caught-out, sadly), but it didn't spoil our overall experience enjoying either Barcelona or the Axel hotel. The Axel Hotel in Barcelona felt like an oasis of comfort and luxury. The staff was very helpful, though they were a little slow with check in and check out. The hotel lobby, elevators, hallways, and rooms were always maintained and very clean. The Deluxe room held a modern elegant feel and had several amenities such as slippers, robe, hairdryer, toiletries, […] refrigerator, free wi-fi, and plasma television. I truly enjoyed my stay in this hotel. The rooms were better than picture. I have room with street view which made a big difference. I highly advise to pay a bit more for that. People who stayed in the least expensive rooms may not be as impressed as I. I do not see anything slizzy about the hotel as one reviewer had mentioned before. We preordered a baby bed which wasn't available att arrival. The girl in the reception compensated us first night with a bottle of cava, which was nice. Next they a very unfriendly man in the reception told us the baby's bed was not available for another two nights. I told him we were promised to get it, but he said it wasn't possible to reserv the […] bed before arrival. No compensation this time. The same day they didn't clean our room until 4,30 pm. When we went to reception to ask for a coffee while waiting the same unfriendly guy said the bar opened first at five, and we should have ordered room service before leaving the room. No help there. The next day my wife went for a facial in the spa but forgot to give the discount voucher she'd received. After asking the same unfriendly guy in the reception if he could register the voucher later the same day he said this wasn't possible. Upon checking out the roomservice tab of 100 euro included a bottle of water which we hadn't taken. The unfriendly guy didn't want to take it off the tab in the beginning. When we said never mind he finally erased it. Summary: Really bad servie for being a four star hotel. No understanding from the unfriendly guy that his job is to solve these kinds of problems that we had. Of course we can't recommend this hotel to anyone, since the lever of service is too important. The Good: Great location, a lot of the sites are within walking distance and it is far enough away from Las Ramblas to not have to deal with the street noise at night. The start of the Las Ramblas is just a few blocks away. The hop on/off bus tour is a 10 minute walk away. The room was large and clean. There is a great little coffee shop across the street where breakfast is cheaper than the hotel. The spa was relaxing and for 7 Euros worth it, we used it every day. The Bad: Not much other than their wireless internet is very very slow. The bar in the hotel is never busy but there are lots of bars in the area so not a big deal. Summary: There may be cheaper hotels in the area but for the location and ammenities I would stay here again for sure. Les mer

nice overall property, great location, close to Aerobus stops, Metro, and about 15 min walk to la Ramblas. Pool on rooftop very nice feature. Rooms modern and clean. Great fitness center. We booked a basic room...checked in. It was clean, modern and overall fine (NOTE:all basic rooms look into a quite dark open air space they call the courtyard (view […] of a wall), but, I don't spend much time in the room when I travel so that was OK for me, and it should be quiet at night) EXCEPT the basic rooms on the first floor (there are only a few) back up to the lobby....which has loud music playing (Think W hotel style), which we could hear in our room (118). They graciously moved us to another room...and it was even a superior room, which was very very nice (still a bit small by US sizes, but, more than ample s pace). Great shower, etc. The staff overall are very nice and professional. Definitely has a gay bent, but, there were many "straight" guests who seem quite comfortable. Les mer

The Axel Hotel is fabulous. It's a gay boutique hotel and their motto is hetero-friendly. The staff is pleasant, helpful and very responsive. Firstly there is a real gym, a rooftop bar and pool. As much as I liked the hotel, I expected more, certainly for the price but also based on the recommendations of friends who had visited previously. Various things didn't work or only badly, like the internet, room refrigerator, room lights, television, etc. The roof deck chair wheel fell off when moved, not a good sign of attention to detail. Small nice swimming pool.

When it was a small boutique (and pretty-much exclusively gay) hotel, it was excellent. Now, it's vastly increased in size and is just another Barcelona Hotel. All the rooms have ultra-violet lights above the entrance door - for "elf and safety". They are on all night and light-up the whole room. Despite being told that all hotels in Spain are the same, I've yet to stay in another that has this problem. Another niggle - you have to pay to use the spa facilities - €7 per person per day - which is crazy. Don't even think about breakfast in the hotel - go across the road to the great coffee shop. This was a good hotel overall. The location is excellent, with close proximity to the major touristic and commercial sites. The WiFi was a bit sluggish--but it's free. The breakfast isn't really worth it, as there is a cafe (w/ free WiFi) across the street, which offers comfortable indoor and outdoor seatings. The staff is definitely more helpful if […] you make an effort to speak Spanish. The room was good and felt generally clean, but there were dust bunnies on the floor. As for the "gay" aspect... There were many gay tourists, yes, but the rooftop bar appeared to be mostly straight (women) during my stay, and and the "gay" concept is more about the hip image than anything else, in my opinion. Although your room key is needed for the elevator, there is pretty much no security otherwise (e.g., anyone can enter the hotel and take the stairs--to any of the floors.... 24 hours. So, what's the point of the key-controlled elevator?). When I checked in, there was drama in the lobby-- as an American tourist had his valuables stolen, right from the check-in counter, as he looked away!!! Les mer

Loved staying at the Axel. Great staff that were helpful and fun. The most comfortable hotel to stay at for a gay couple. Roof top bar was so great (mixed drinks a bit price). Rooms are nice, but small. Bed is a bit firm but bathrooms were modern and nice. The location is best. The staff gives great recommendations, try Julia's Cafe for Paella and […] La Flauta for tapas. great hotel in fabulous location. five minute walk from everything, near subway. fun atmosphere and fantastic rooftop with pool. rooms are a bit faded and towels are cheap but staff are very nice and helpful and the rooms are nice.

Great Location, right near the aerobus drop off, and cool atmosphere. Amazingly comfortable beds and nice big bath towels. The rooftop bar was really neat, but the drinks were overpriced. The downstairs bar and the lobby was pretty small and dark. The ceiling in our bathroom also leaked I believe from the shower in the room above. I stayed one week at the Axel Hotel and I was very satisfied. The position of the hotel is excelent. There is a 5 minutes walk to Plaza de la Universitat and a 10 minutes walk to Plaza catalunya. The hotel is in a very nice neighborhoud, very quite and peaceful surounded by nice little restaurants. The staff is very well manered and very nice and they […] are all speaking english, french, spanish. The SPA inside the hotel has a sauna, a turkish bath and an indoor pool with jacuzzi. Everything is very well maintained and very clean and the fee to use these facilities is about 7 euro per day. The roof top bar and terrace is very nice as well with a small pool and jacuzzi. The internet connection in the room is very decent. Although is a hotel visited by many gay couples myself and my wife felt very good there and never noticed any difference between us and the rest of the people as the staff is nice and very helpful with everybody without making any difference. What a treat to be in such an adult environment in the middle of Barcelona's LGBT area! Classy, elegant, the best breakfast, roof top tub and view...attention to details and superb taste! Can you tell we had a good time?

Great location that is a bit away from the hustle and bustle, but a quick walk to connect to the many attractions in Barcelona. Barcelona is a very large metropolis and no hotel is close to everything. The hotel is quite gay. (We are a gay couple and we had no problem with that). We did see a bit of shock on the faces of other folks arriving from the […] same cruise ship. Just one look at the in-room safes and you can be taken aback. We did find some of the gay guests a bit annoying as they were in party mode for the entire time -- if they could just stayed in their rooms. The lobby needs some spiffing up -- most notably, the mezzanine area with free wifi looks terrible when you first enter the hotel. The rooms are small, clean and bright. It's modern and stark in the rooms including some metal shelving from IKEA. All quite serviceable. Les mer

The Axel Hotel Barcelona was great. We loved the area it was located in (Eixample) and could walk to many cafes, bars, and clubs within a few minutes. The ambiance of the hotel was perfect. A nice urban, modern feeling in an old city. We enjoyed having the pool and jacuzzi on the roof. Sitting in the jacuzzi overlooking Barcelona was a feeling that […] is hard to find in Europe. We had a little fiasco with a different hotel and had to book Axel last minute, but it worked out for the best! The bed was extremely comfortable, and the location was very good. My boyfriend and I were amused by the large image of a reclining nude man (blurry, not really offensive), so that is part of the gay-hotel charm.

The most positive attribute of this hotel is the location, but there are many hotels in this area. Shop around. The room interiors are stark and the illuminated "art work" is dated. The roof top deck is nice. There is a wading pool; swimming is not possible. The first floor bar is never, ever, happening. Don't be fooled by the hotel's website. Wi-fi […] is not free. The hotel's location is excellent - right in the middle of all the gay nightlife and restaurants, as well as shopping in both the high-end luxury and midrange options to the north and south. The rooms themselves are incredible - the furnishings are somewhat sparse, but the rooms themselves are spacious for the price, with high ceilings and tall windows. […] My room was a corner unit facing Aribau and Consejo del Ciento, and had both a balcony AND an enclosed patio with stained glass windows (I belive that units ending in 06 have this feature). The service was somewhat sparce, but was not inefficient. I don't usually require room service or other features, but my room was always cleaned when requested, and the other services such as the in-house bar and gym were well done. Although the hotel is marketed towards a gay male audience, women and heterosexuals were also present, and were warmly welcomed by staff and guests. Highly recommended! Les mer

Arrived at 1.15 in the afternoon same as last time and told the same check in not till two, which I get but still think they could have found us a room. In the bedroom toliet roll hold broke,monsoon shower didn't work and broken pipe in the shower. Woken up again early in the morning by building works - Should be charging for wifi. Good hotel, Confortable Rooms, Decent location, Hetrofriendly indeed, Good spa facilities, internet complimentary, extremly helpful staff, spotless housekeeping, No extra charge for wellness area, Short walk to city center(pl catalunya) and also Ave diagonal(shopping),Good transport( bus ans metro) All within a short walk(less than 5 min).

Tremendous Gay hotel in the heart of Eixample. Highly reccommended.

I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel. The front desk staff is exceptional. They had fantastic advice on where to go for all kinds of wonderful dining experiences in the area. An added benefit to staying at Axel is that you get in free at a club called Metro, and of course the staff at the front desk can tell you all the best clubs to visit, and of […] any new hot spots. Most everyone in the hotel was gay, and very straight friendly. The bar has some outdoor seating, and is fun for a nightcap. The bartenders are great. The rooms are clean and well designed. A safe is in each room, for you to lock up copies of your passport, credit cards, and excess cash. In the back of the hotel, it is completely quiet, but the rooms are slightly smaller. The front rooms are a bit larger, and have a little balcony which is charming. There is a tiny bit of street noise. It's city life, and to be expected, but if you're from a city, you won't notice a thing. The upgraded rooms are very nice. The maids are great- They are very friendly, and they don't bang on the door at 8:00AM to clean... whew! Breakfast is a tasty buffet, that includes Jamon Serrano. The neighborhood is also very agreeable, with gay and straight businesses all around, but as with all of Barcelona today, you have to be very careful with your belongings, and keep your wallet well hidden. The hotel is also just a short stroll to Paseo De Gracia and all the great shopping there...and Rambla de Cataluna, Plaza de Catalunya and the Ramblas, etc. WiFi just got upgraded too, and the connection is great, in case you have to do business while there. And there are 2 computers that are connected by ethernet, and I believe are free to use for hotel guests. I would definitely stay there again. Really great people make the hotel a wonderful experience. Oh, and there is a GREAT feature for spring and summer! my wife and i booked this hotel not knowing that it was ranked among the top gay hotels in the world. at first this fact made me a little uneasy but after our experience in Barcelona I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone, gay or straight. The staff was so very helpful and friendly. The location was great; within about 10 minutes walking […] to La Rambla, and many choices of restaurants and shopping nearer than that. If there was one concern, it was that the spa area was closed due to maintenance and the rooftop pool and hot tub weren't really warm enough to enjoy. Other than that, everything was perfect. Les mer
