Stayed here three nights in June 2011 and was not pleased. The room was very small and dark. The curtains were nailed shut, so that we could not open them to let sunlight in. I am not sure if fire regulations would approve of this, since we could not use the main windows in case of a fire. A bit worn down, but in a charming way. The elevator was not working when we stayed there, but Im sure they would have helped us carry our bags had we asked for it. Close to The White House, and Dupont Circle with its bars and resturants. Breakfast was the usual continental stuff, but with varm waffels. Recommended for an affordable stay in DC

Det fremstår som "slitent", men det er rent overalt og betjeningen er vennlig og yter god service. 2 store fordeler: Frokost inkludert i prisen og gratis internett. Du må spise frokost i hotellets resepsjonsområde og møbleringen er ikke komfortabel mht. […] spisestilling (sofaer+salongbord). Menyen er ikke "norsk" - men hvis du kan leve på bagels med smøreost og cornflakes i noen dager er du helt OK. Gratis kaffe hele døgnet. Internett gratis. Bodde 3 dager først på et dyrere hotell, der kostet internett 13 dollar i døgnet! Fin beliggenhet med gangavstand til store severdigheter og mye butikker og restauranter i nærheten. Ulemper: Det er skrekkelig LYTT på hotellet og også ut mot gatelyder osv. Hvis du ikke er interessert i å bli underholdt av det som foregår i naborommene, tar du med deg et par gode ørepropper og du er helt OK. Det er ikke heis i hotellet. Ikke velg dette hotellet hvis du søker lukus. Dette er et brukshotell for nøkterne og ujålete folk. Det kan strekke reisebudsjettet ditt til å vare i mange flere dager!! Anbefales på disse premisser. The hotel wasn't great. We checked in and they gaves us a room on the 4th floor, then told us the elevator was broken. Front desk people were pleasant. The room was TINY. It fit a full size bed, bedside table, and TV stand at the foot of the bed and that was it. The sheets were clean. And the bathroom was completely renovated and about the same size […] as the bedroom. Nice toiletries. The hotel was very conveniently located and the price was good. A few blocks away from the Metro, but lots of nice restaurants and bars close by. Les mer

No bellman. I had a very heavy suitcase and had to take it up stairs by myself. Is not ADA compliant... no elevator. The room I was in was TINY and the bathroom was only the size of 9 square tiles... 3 of which were totally loose, and the others were broken. Could not walk bare foot in the bathroom without cutting your feet on the broken and loose tiles. […] Bed was uncomfortable. Totally miserable stay. Only good thing was location of hotel. Les mer

For those who don't mind a 15 minute walk downtown to the monuments, this is a very good location. Moderately priced. Most of the rooms are small, and basic. I lucked out with mmine. Seems to be the largest, and just redone. The manager was very helpful.

It was a nice place for us to stay. Very close to Capitol Hills .

This hotel is badly maintained! Rooms have used carpets with stains. The walls have scratches and open holes. The electric cables are just on the wall without protection. The breakfast contains bad coffee in plastic cups and ice-cold cup cakes in the lobby. I was glad to book just one night!

Old hotel, I was not expecting the Ritz for the great price I paid. Excellent location, close to everything, great surrounding neighborhood-just don't plan on parking your car! We stayed only for the night and it's clear they have been working to modernize some of the amenities. Bathroom had recently been refitted with new fixtures; but it was clear […] upon arrival the hotel is OLD. Plush purple carpet (yeah) and an old chandelier greeted us as we walked into the very small check-in, 5 seat lounge/breakfast area. Bed LOOKED comfortable but I've got to admit took us both a day to work the kinks out of our shoulders and back. Considering the location, which was necessary to our visit, can't be beat for the price and the staff were extremely nice! Would stay again... Les mer

Chose the District Hotel for location and price. Bad decision. Loud, hard to sleep. Room is the size of a closet. Hard, old bed. All tiles in the bathroom broken and loose. I have stayed in better hotels in the developing world.

very small & old room, very clean w/nice bed & new fixtures, efficient & friendly staff, inexpensive & convenient to dc convention center. good deal for budget business traveler, nice aura of dc history

This hotel is a total waste of money!!! The rooms are just big enough for a double bed, parking is expensive and inconvenient, and the clerks are rude. If you don't want to spend the extra money to stay in DC then I would recommend staying in VA and taking the Metro in because you will be much more comfortable.

The staff is friendly and the hotel clean but the hotel is old and small and elevator was still not working since at least last fall. This room, while clean and neat was not much bigger than the full size bed and there was no desk, closet, coffee maker, or telephone (which there was no mention of when I scheduled a wake-up call which I had asked for […] when I checked in). There was a wodden bar to hang a few clothes in the bathroom but no toilet paper holder. They do offer a nice breakfast in the lobby, however, and a newspaper - but there is no restaurant. If you are driving, parking is limited to 5 spaces in the alley behind the hotel. If you are here on business and not going to be spending much time in your room, it is clean, convenient, and affordable. Les mer

I recently stayed at the DIstrict Hotel, flying in for a DC based business meeting. The hotel is great for quick and clean price-efficient value. There is someone at the fron t desk 24 hours/day. The first room they assigned to me had a smell of cigar smoke, so they readily accomodated a change of room. You are not going to get views from the rooms, […] but for cleanliness and value, I would stay there again! There is a nice continental breakfast offered in the morning, and the folks that maintain the breakfast area do their very best to keep everything clean, filled, and ready for your enjoyment. Not only did the elevator not work but the parking was awful. Only 5 spaces for the whole hotel. Also rats running around outside in plain site. Alot of rat holes in the front yard also. Told this is city living!! Don't think so. It was not as close to the building we needed to go to, as I was lead to believe. We had to park our car about 5 blocks away […] which I was not expecting to happen. It was definitely an older hotel and showed. It was not some where I would recommend to anyone I know. Les mer

A very old hotel with chipped walls tubs etc. But was very clean. One of the days they did not make the bed or clean. But some of the front Desk staff were very friendly and helpful

Room was tiny, about 2 meters large. The heater was above the head of the bed so it would keep turning on during the night and straight on you. Paint missing on the borders all around the room. No closet. Defective iron burned my clothes. Gap in the door and paper thin wall, very noisy. Breakfast option was either toast, cereal or waffle. Room key kept […] on not working and since the elevator was not working either, had to go back down 4 flights of stairs to get a new key. This experience is more like a B&B or an inn than a four star hotel. The service is basic, the rooms are small, but you get more of a residential feel, with a lovely front patio and garden with trees, where I practiced yoga. It was a peaceful respite from the urban jungle, which I appreciated after a busy weekend! You won't get good service at the front […] desk. They will not call you a cab, and did not have the ability to boil water for tea after the water in the thermos ran out, which I thought was antiquated. Sure, the Kimpton hotel around the corner is more swanky, but expect to pay double for that. Les mer

Extremely small, old rooms with windows into a wall. No chair, desk or cabinet to hang clothes. Nightmare!

A great hotel for a night in DC, close enough to walk anywhere. The club next door is bothersome if you happen to leave a window open. But a good hotel for doing what you do in a hotel (sleep).

Great location, service, price -- rooms are still being renovated so sometimes bathroom is great/new and room is old-fashioned, but so what? It's clean, has breakfast, and bends over backwards to assist when you need it. I'd stay again

the District Hotel does not worth the cost. Too expensive for the hotel condition and service.

Great location, just a short walk to the White House, some monuments and a stop for a sightseeing tour. However, this is about the only thing going for the hotel. I didnt feel safe walking around the surrounding neighborhood at night, and there wasn't a lot of choice for dining around the place either, some ended up ordering in most nights. I read reviews […] months ago about the elevators not working, they still haven't been fixed, and we had to drag our suitcases up 4 flights of stairs while staff members watched us struggle without offering to help. The other review are correct. The walls are very thin. For the price and a short trip it was fine. I would suggest calling about parking before arriving because there is limited on street parking, but garages near by.

So uncomfortable. The breakfast was just cereal and toast. It smelled of old mold and mildew. I booked it for my boyfriends birthday and it sucks we had that bad experience. Not worth the money. And the neighborhood looked ghetto.

No parking: we arrived to the hotel at 10pm very tired from a 6 hours road trip. There was no parking and the help in front desk was null. The closest parking was 2 blocks away and you must get out at 8am to avoid extra charges. Hotel: very mean front desk. The elevator not working. The lift was broken, the ice machine was broken, the phone didn't work, all the drawer handles were missing - I could go on, but you probably get the picture. This could be a great hotel at a good price in an excellent location. But poor management and bad maintenance make it an expensive disappointment.

I have stayed in youth hostels with more room. My room did not have an armoire or closet to hang my clothes. No service to have you clothes pressed. Probably OK to stay if you are on vacation and on a tight budget.

i wasnt pleased with my room at all. there was a back door in the room. the shower looks like it wanted to come out of the wall an the tube was out dated. the bath room was updated. very misleading from the picture i saw on line. i wouldnt recommend this hotel to friends the plus side of the hotel is that its in a central location. but really needs […] updating. It looks old and dirty, but it has a good location.

The lady at the front desk was rude, the room was small and looked like thay was remodeling and didn't get around to that room. Changed rooms to a worst room. Could't get a refund, the lady at the front stated the hotel was booked and breakfast was awful. Just didn't enjoy my stay. I will never return. Although very small and old (my room was the size of the bed!) they had redone the bathroom so it looked nice. There is a continental breakfast served. The elevator was broken.
