Travelodge in San Rafael - San Rafael

FIRST OF ALL: there is no spa or hot tub, but they advertise it as such. Asked owner at checkin and he said they no longer have and i could find another hotel if i dont like!!! Got to hotel @ 3 in afternoon and room was still not cleaned. Got into room which looked ok at first. Bathroom door would not close because of door lamination coming apart and […] held together WITH A BANDAID!!! Let checkin know that we would be leaving at 6:30. Skimpy breakfast does not start until 7:30am on a weekday? People downstairs were partying all night and had to call desk twice. Could not sleep at all! Got up in morning to make coffee and the button of coffeemaker was missing! Immediately called and asked if they had another coffee pot down there or if they could make coffee for us since they had large pots but they said they would bring another coffee pot. 10 minutes later girl comes with another pot which part that holds coffee grounds was broken. Called again and told them of another broken pot and asked if they could make coffee down there. NO. They wanted to bring another pot, but i had no time. Tried to use other pot and coffee went all over tray and counter. So, we had no coffee and no breakfast! Just got the heck out of there and would never go back! Les mer

Very convenient for us, and very quiet.

The staff was unfriendly not a smile and very little to say. There was no hot water at night or in mid-morning. Had to clean up with cold water. Later in morning around 10 am the hot water came on, by that time we were leaving. The place was not new but it was clean. Like the saying "you get what you pay for".

greaat coffee shop across the street and met my needs

I don't know why this motel is rated only 2 stars. I think it was renovated recently, so the poor rating is likely a reflection of this motel prior to renovation. This motel was $20-$30 per nite less than any of the local competition, so I decided to take a chance and I'm glad I did. It was way better than the average Motel 6. The room was clean, the […] bed was comfortable, the shower was hot and the WiFi was free and actually worked! What else do you really need. The only downside was that it's not within walking distance of anything besides a gas station, but dining and other amenities are only a few miles away in downtown San Rafael. This motel deserves at least 3.5 stars for quality and 5 stars for value compared to anything else in the area. Les mer

First impressions can be a lasting impression. No notification was given about when check-in time was. Went to check in and the lady behind the counter told me to come back later (literally). No "hello","how are you doing" but "come back later." I found that extremely rude and unfortunately for them I will not use that hotel again and neither will all […] the people I saw during my visit and the people back home I told about my visit. Worst possible hotel/motel in the area. My wife and I stayed there because we had traveled to San Rafael for a friends funeral. The rooms were dirty, beds uncomfortable and bathrooms dirty. Also each night we were there, there were at least five police cars in the parking lot. Myself working in law enforcement, I asked what they were there for and was […] told, there were drug dealers, prostitutes and underage girls with grown men in the hotel. It is close to restaurants the freeway,No noise from the freeway. Great place to eat name Celias- Mexican restarant, Great margaritas within walking distance. The pillows could be a little fluffier but over all we would stay again.

The uneven floor in the room, the hole, in the ceilng, over the shower, the lack of spare TP in the room. should reduce the quality to 1.0 stars maximum. They may able to lift their rating by going under the Motel 6 banner . . . . if they could qualify.

OK, but the price per night was good.

I loved how its enclosed over head parking right next to freeway. Price was all I could afford they deserve 5 stars. Room very nice and safe. I can't wait to stay again.

I did not feel the hotel photo provided on Hotels.com was representative of this dive. It was several steps below the Motel 6 in quality and service ... and the neighborhood did not seem safe. At 7 pm, the lobby was locked up tight, you had to check in through a security window. I left as soon as I could book another place to stay, even though I was […] penalized one night's stay. Unless you are a man who can take care of himself, don't stay here. As a woman traveling alone, this hotel was high risk. Remember in Marin, a $50-60 motel is like a $30 dive anywhere else. This was a scary area that the hotel was in. Room was clean but that was about it. Not comfortable at all. Would not stay there again.

Not a resort, but effecient. Most amazing was the Roasters cafe right across from the place a very short walk away. I had the best cafe Americano ever!

The sheets were too small and wouldn't stay on the bed. I woke up in the middle of the night laying on the bare mattress under the blanket. I was not a happy camper. The walls and the carpet were not clean. I did not feel comfortable without my slippers.

The hotel was not a in great neighborhood, more of a business/industrial area; however, in terms of convenience to multiple freeways and other great spots in Marin/Sonoma it was perfect. We were looking for a bed and a safe place. This covered that. I was even surprised to find coffee, juice and some fruit and bagels and oatmeal in the morning. The neighborhood the hotel was in was not the greatest I have ever seen, but the room was fine, the water pressure was wonderful, and everything but the TV remote worked as it should. I would stay here again.

Comfortable room but having pre-paid through hotels.com seemed to be an 'issue' when checking in.

Overall great experience. Only down side was that there was no hot water for our pm or am showers.

I knew this hotel would not be up to par with a four or five star hotel, however, it wouldn't rate any stars with me. Although easy location, not a great neighborhood. Upon check in the man at the desk was rude, no smile, rushed and clearly couldn't care less about making a good impression. The room was clean, nothing special, patched caulking on the […] wall, as if repair work was done and never completed. Being that it is a hotel right off the highway, the clientele is not necessarily of the gracious and courteous type...at 2:30am, I was awakened by a post bar crashing party outside my door, completely oblivious to guests trying to sleep and smoking (which seeps through the doors, by the way) and drinking and having a great time with no regard to other guest. Upon check out, the woman behind the desk was more polite than the first man, however she refused to give me a receipt as I had reserved my room on line???? Never has that been told to me before...what's the big deal. No customer service etiquette is the rule here. Stay here again? Never! Les mer

THIS IS WHERE WE RELY ON HONEST FEEDBACK AND I DO BUT THIS TIME DIDN'T UNTIL I FOUND EXACTLY SAME ISSUES. Stinky office, flimsy towels that you need to beg for EACH day, and please don't think of asking for a courtesy fax to be sent out or use copier. DUB what was I thinking? Coffee machine leaked because pot doesn't belong to maker. Best of all out […] of control guests upstairs required love and management were clueless. Everything was good and at a good price if you go to hotel website. Otherwise you pay about 1/3 more. I know this because we decided to get another night at the front desk. (not a website) They also state online that there is a microwave and fridge in each room. Fridge yes, but our lower priced room didn't come with a microwave. They also showed a jacuzzi […] in the photo. There was a nice pool but no jacuzzi at this particular Travel lodge. But for a low cost hotel what do you expect? Great place to stay ; however a bit noisy.

Very economic, but unsafe area, noise, room wasn't ready, no towels, have to ask for room to be cleanned and towels replaced.

I had an emergency and had to cancel my stay for the two nights, and hotel.com and travelodge did not want to return any of money for the stay, saying was "not refundable"-That is called "stealing"- I'm very disappointed with that action, and I will not reserve again in this type of hotel. Please be aware of the fine print!

This hotel is one of the worst I have ever stayed at. Neighbourhood was not the best. The lobby was very small and smelled strongly like ethnic food. If this was an Indian restaurant I would have no complain, but this is a hotel!! We arrived at 7:30, and the front door was already locked. I had to insist to the staff to open the door to complete my […] check in, instead of using the bullet proof window and sliding tray. The room didn't look too clean, and smell bad, like a moist damp place. The heater was very noisy and the carpet had numerous stains. The floor felt slanted toward the door, inviting you to leave that place ASAP. Bathroom was clean, and water ran with good pressure. I had to make two visits to the front desk before going to bed. One asking for a toothbrush, which was thrown with a very bad attitude on the taxi-cab tray for me to pick up. It seems the guy at the front desk was not very please with me waking him up at 8:30 PM. Conveniently located by 580 and 101 exits, recently refurbished, quiet enough although alongside 101, excellent value for the price I paid (coffee maker in room, fridge, free wifi, free continental breakfast). I had to extend 2 more days, they spontaneously offered the same discounted rate. I would return without hesitation and recommend to anyone looking […] for inexpensive accomodation in Marin. Suggested improvements: breakfast starting at 7:30am is too late for weekdays, no laundry service available, although there is a bag in the room, no iron board or customer washer for longer stays, maybe not their market anyway? As stated in some other reviews, the hotel is pretty cute from the outside, but the family that apparently runs it is just NOT meant to be in the hospitality industry. They're not mean, they're just not friendly either. But nothing terrible, just average people that aren't smiley, etc. The room itself is smaller than the Motel 6, and the bed was on […] the smaller side as well, BUT the room was MUCH better in general than the Motel 6, I promise you. The room itself was not even comparable to the Motel 6, where I also stayed. The Motel 6 was smelly, there was no countertop to fix your hair, no hair dryer in the room, very few channels on TV, and in general, everything was worse except the fact that the room was big, but really, who cares about that? It's true, "breakfast," if you can call it that, though free, is also a joke. Dry cereal and coffee, and that's basically it. The pool seemed nice, though not really hot, but I couldn't figure out how to open the gate! Haha. The pool area was small, but nice. The area itself wasn't the best, but we had friends in the area in San Rafael, so that's where we stayed there. Convenient to the freeway, though. This was the cheapest hotel I could find in the area, followed by the Motel 6 and others, but this one was WAY better than Motel 6. I'd stay here again if I'm going to the area again. Be aware that at both motels, the housekeepers just barge in without knocking, so use the chain/deadbolt on your door. The area isn't "scary," it's just industrial and not very homey. Not a bad place, cheap and cheerful.

I stayed here two weekends in a row while spending my days at my mother's during a sudden decline in her health. It suited my needs perfectly. It's noisy right outside (construction racket was added to the usual freeway and road sounds this time), but I can sleep through pretty much anything. The family owners were polite and civil, and the room was […] quite clean. As far as comfort goes, the bed was great! The only complaint was that the phone in my room on the second stay was dead; though I asked them to fix it in the morning, it was still dead that night when I came back. I would have liked to use it to call my brother in another room; as it was, I relied on my cell. Trying to find an affordable motel room in pricy Marin takes a lot of shopping.
