Travelodge Highland Mall - Austin

Let's begin with the negatives of my stay at this hotel. First off, the staff was incredibly rude. They seemed like they didn't want us to be there. The key was hard to use. Also the continental breakfast had an extremely limited selection. The beds were relatively comfortable but I was happy to have a lot of towels and good room service. The best part […] of this hotel is definitely its location! It's right off the highway and located adjacent to a mall, so car is not necessary to survive. It is also extremely close to downtown and I would recommend this hotel just because of the location. Maybe when you stay here the staff will be friendlier. Les mer

my stay at the hotel was wonderful..we was close to everything we wanted to do in Austin, the room was clean,the front desk workers was friendly,helpful. Everything worked in the room including the wifi..the room was big and cheep..thank you for your heip in finding a room that was in my price range and a great place to stay i would stay there again […] and will tell other to stay there as well... Woman who worked front desk during the day was very friendly and helpful. That is the only good thing I can say. TV in room did not work at all during the entire week I was there. Alarm clock was broken and the wake-up call I requested never came. When it was time to check out I got to the lobby and there was no one in sight. Waited about 15 minutes […] and then began knocking on a door to the side of the desk. After knocking about 5 minutes a guy finally stumbled out of the back room rubbing his eyes. Apparently I had interrupted his nap. Sorry for the inconvenience, sir. Fortunately, I did not have to spend more than a few hours a day in the room and most of that was spent sleeping. To give this hotel a 2 star rating is an insult to other hotels that actually deserve 2 stars. It was listed as having free wifi which you could only get a poor signal in the lobby. The in room safes were non-functional. The toilet seat broke and a new one was never given to us. The "cable" tv had a worse signal then holding a metal hanger and standing […] with one leg out the window. I would only recommend this hotel if everything in the area was sold out and they were out of tents at Walmart. Les mer

They didn't have any breakfast on my frist day there; and there was roach in my room. you have to ask for the iron and iron board. Every thing else was fine.

Absolutey disgusting and hotels.com should take them off their site. DO NOT stay here.

We were very comfortable here. The staff was very polite and friendly. Our room was clean, and the bed was comfortable. We would definitely consider staying here again.

This hotel was not the best hotel or the worst. The location was easy to access, but the staff was very unapproachable. The sheets were stained and the tub was dirty. This hotel is not all that the website makes it to be. It needs serious updates, but I got what I paid for.

We enjoyed our stay. Accomodations were up to expectation. There was one problem that worried me because I am a conservationist. Hot water was being lost from a pretty bad bath tub leak in Roon 179. I reported that on leaving and trust that it was taken care of. Thank you for good service.

You get what you pay for and this place is cheap. The room was very clean though it was old. I liked the balconey so my husband could go out to smoke. There was even a room safe and a microwave. The fridge didn't work neither did the wifi. I called the front desk and they were very polite but didn't fix the problems. We had to go back and forth to the […] ice machine which is in the other building from where we stayed which was a smoking room. Les mer

This hotel is centrally located and worth the price. That being said, it's not in the best neighborhood nor is it in the best state of repair. Breakfast is continental with coffee pot in the rooms. We'd stay there again.

This hotel is close to a mall which is becoming increasingly vacant and seems to attract older teens of questionable repute. We were warned to not go near mall at night! Very little to offer for continental breakfast: a loaf of bread, danish that are stale and same tasting, cereal, and a single juice and coffee choice ( reg. or decaf. only one avail. […] at a time). Rooms were comfortable and spacious, and the staff was very pleasant and helpful. Easy access on/off expressway. Les mer

The hotel wasn't that bad for the price, but there were bed bugs.... They changed the room for us, but still... it was horrible.

The worst experience I have ever had as a customer of any business, ever. Things that did not work: Lobby men's room, out of order for 3 days. The phone in my room. The internet. My shower handle broke when I tried to take a shower. Then I was accused of breaking it. Staff not friendly, attentive, or helpful. Staff wore no nametags. Strange, unidentified […] people walking the halls, who seemed to be neither guests,nor staff. Front desk left unattended for long preiods, attendant to be found sitting out back in the parking lot with the strange unidentified people. Les mer

The location of the hotel is very good for my needs, However, the shape and the service of the hotel is poor; I requested a first floor room and the front desk attendant claimed that there was no available rooms on the first floor, imediately after I registered our friends got a first floor room without requesting it, once in the room the coffee maker […] did not function, some of the lamps in the room would not turn on and the white sheets were dirty or stained, the water pressure was very low and the tub would take a very long time to drain. The lighting around the building was less than adequate. When my wife called the front desk the attendant was rude and very loud towards her. Les mer

The guy working at the counter was rude and when I inquried about what size bed was in there, he smarted off and told me it was a "single bed" Then proceeded to tell me that that was the only room he had. tThe back door to the hotel was not locked, which you were suppose to have your room key to acc. Good space and accomodation for the price.

This place was a total dump!! There were roaches the place was falling apart the help was rude and couldnt even tell us where our room was!! The advertising was not correct about the ammenities. Needless to say we did not stay there and will never recomend this hotel to anyone!!!

Under construction. Water bugs the size of small dogs. Noticed only three other customers and empty parking lot. Towels could have been lots cleaner. Wont go back.

The hotel was not to bad I mean considering the price, of course you pay for what you get. I stayed in the second bldg. Which was for smokers. Smelled pretty bad in the room so I sprayed some air fresher but other then that the room service did fix the beds and put fresh towels. There was no noise around us or any problems with the room. The hotel staff and the rooms mixed up. They gave me a room that was under someone who I've never heard of credit card. The back door was broken and hanging so any stranger would have access. The room was not as clean as it should have been. i had to have the sheets changed before I could sleep on them. The only positive was the location of the hotel... […] Never again will I stay there... for $30.00 more I'll take The Hilton!!!!! Les mer

This was the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. "TOO MUCH FALSE ADVERTIZEMENT". The beds are not Queen size, they are full size. Several major channels not working on TV. Bath Tub was stopped up. Stains on matresses. Did not wipe down tables etc when cleaning. Did not vaccume floor. Front desk personell showed lack of importance to me as a customer. If […] I had more money I'd gone elsewhere no matter what the price would've been. If I had enemies, I would'nt reccomend this hotel to them. Someone had ripped the cable out of the back of the TV. The guy behind the desk was very nice, and he got us a new room very quickly. He was very helpful when the codes on our keys were erased also. Hotel is right off I-35, but it is a little difficult to get to. There are a lot of restaurants and stores nearby. I would stay there again.

We arrived late and tired. We went to the room, and my daughter returned to the desk to see if she could buy bottled water. When she asked where she could buy bottled water, the clerk replied "at the store". She found the clerk very unhelpful. The mattresses on the two beds in the room were terrible. The pillows were worse. The pillowcases were clean […] but stained. The hotel served a continental breakfast. The orange juice was undrinkable. There were only two choices of cereal and neither were healthy choices for an adult. There was no fruit or waffles as in other hotels with continental breakfasts. We drank coffee and went to a restaurant for breakfast. We have never had to do that before. Les mer

The sheets had blood stains on them, the pillowcases had hair follicles, the drain in the shower was clogged and there were time when someone would bang on our door and when you open the door, no one will be there. When I went downstairs to grab some ice, some guy went in the hotel asking for large garbage bags for some emergency he was having, the […] front desk guy was clearly scared, and gave him garbage bags. on my way back from the ice machine, I saw bras hanging from the door knobs on a couple of rooms... hmm. My wife and I stayed there for a weekend in Austin. We were looking for something close to downtown and so we stayed here. It was awful. The owner was very rude the next day when we wanted to check out early. The hotel was not well maintained. Terrible reception on the TV, no soap in the rest room, poorly maintained, and there was a spider just chilling […] in the bathroom. I would NEVER stay there again, I would rather sleep buck naked covered in honey on a park bench next to an ant hill. Les mer

I can understan broken things and did not expect excellece for this hotel's price, But one thing I do not agree and irritates me very much is bad customer service, The night attendant was very rude and not professional.

Cheap hotel.. keep in mind, you get what you paid for. Heater blew dust when we first turned it on. Nearby mall was nice and the little shopping center. About a 13$ cab ride to downtown Austin (they were there 6 min after calling.. Fast!). We weren't in the hotel much so it was ok.

The room was okay i would give it a 4 out of a 10. The AC was a plus....the room smell really badly upon arrival.When it was time to check out the lady staff was very rude.

I'm from Australia and have been staying at several motels around the states for over a month. been staying at the cheaper ones, and so far they have been ok - except for this one. The travel lodge is in a very convinent location. A bus stop to downtown is right infront. The anemities themselves are not bad (tv, microwave and fridge) but the room itself […] was dirty. Fairly sure that the bed and carpeting had fleas because every night we would get bitten. Complained to the staff but they did not do anything to help. Les mer

I typically stay in 2-star hotels so I know not to expect something too amazing but this hotel was well below standard. First, I ended up getting a 2-bed room instead of the king bed room I reserved. The toilet seat was not attached (my husband discovered this when he put up the toilet seat). The toilet tank kept loading water so you have to jiggle […] the handle to get the plug to close. A couple of pillows had visible huge lumps. Ground and linens were moist. Blanket had cigarette burns. Towels were really rough. For the price, i did not get what I paid for. It felt like it should have been less than $20 a night with all the issues we had with the room. Les mer

As a UT alumni, I've been to HIghland Mall area and knew it was kind of rough. I booked this hotel because we were on a travel budget and the hotel is worthy of the price ($45-$55). It's located next door to a nice hotel so the safety of that hotel spills over the parking lot. The bed sort of caved in the middle and there was an annoying squeak in […] the ceiling pipes. It's located about 5-8 minutes from UT and downtown so that's a major benefit. Les mer

Our cable line was apparently cut, so we didn't have cable at all, though the front desk staff did try to fix it. I feel as though we should have been offered a different room. Down the hall I am pretty sure we overheard a hooker and her John. Pull-out couch didn't pull out completely. Closet doors were off their hinges. Pretty much, this place is a […] dump. Les mer

This is not the place if you are looking for a high end place. It met out needs and it worked for us. Not the best, but a basic, no frills room.

The bed was one of the worst beds I have slept on. The breakfast was pretty gross - spoiled milk and jelly, stale bread, etc....The bathroom was not very clean - dirt and dust was collected in the corners, and the soap had been open already.... However, I got a great deal, and needed somewhere close the the mall for a quick errand in the morning before […] work - so it served it's purpose. Les mer

Sketchy!!!

The accommodations were pretty minimal. The breakfast was also "minimal". The A/C worked but was very loud and we had to turn it off too be able to sleep. The TV was very grainy. Not a very good value for the price paid.

My room smelled like urine the first couple of days and the manager came beating on my door at 12:00pm accusing me of smokeing he even stuck his head in to smell the room.There was no smoke but to be accused of smokeing in the middle of the night while I was sleeping was horrible the smoke detector did not go off or anything that pissed me off.Other […] than that my stay was okay there was a young man who helped us when we first got there who was nice he said he was new but he had a great attitude.I will also write a letter to the corporate office in regards to my stay. This is the problem with booking with some hotel chains. You don't know what you are going to get until you get there and then it's too late. This is not a nice hotel. Stay elsewhere.
